So...you're having problems with your Fascinate....

Funny, I haven't been over to these forums in awhile and now I come back--and see all manners of problems, issues, gripes, etc.  Wasn't *anything* like this when I first got my Fascinate.
Here's what I think:  I don't beleive Verizon understood what they were getting into with develping a ROM for (sort-of) open-source smartphone platform like Android.  They clearly were really struggling to catch up with the core development from early on.  Pity, because I always felt the Fascinate had stellar hardware, and Verizon service in my (admittedly more remote) neck of the woods has always been very good.
Judging by the number of "I'm having an issue" and "this fon sux" posts, it seems to me more recent updates seem to have only added to the misery.  So what to do?
Here's the interesting thing:  I haven't had a single problem with my phone that I haven't been able to fix.  Even for a product that (would seem to be) at end-of-life, I'm still planning on buying a new case and extended battery for it.  I use it with a Bluetooth keyboard for taking notes in meetings, keep current on all my e-mails,  collaborate with various teams with Google Docs, and yes, answer phone calls.  My Fascinate currently runs blazing fast, no lag at all (except when the 3g in my area is weak), and is easy on the eyes.
But I've had to work a little for all this functionality.
My humble opinion?  If you're wanting bleeding-edge firmware, the official updates are only going to get you so far.  Development on these updates will likely even slow down further as newer phones are rolled out.  Just basic economies of scale--Verizon's not going to be able to maintain Development efforts on increasingly older hardware--especially with new models coming out all the time.
***WARNING:  The following statement will likely result in me dodging black helicopters on my way back home!*** ((Sorry Mods, couldn't resist.    ))
If you're like me, you still have your Fascinate, and really liked the phone to start with--but quickly tired of the slow ROM development.  If you have an inkling of technical saavy (or have a geeky friend), and you have awhile left before an upgrade, here's what I suggest:  Head on over to the XDA Developers website, do some research, and weigh the risks of implementing some of the great work that community is doing.  Keep in mind playing with custom ROMS will void your warranty and yes, you *can* brick your phone if you don't know what you're doing....
....but I've actually been far happier with my phone since I've taken the plunge.

Now it all makes sense....I tried out what seems like a gazillion ROMs before I realized CM7-based ROMs were the only ones that can support my keyboard.

  • If you're having problems with your shuffle freezing in XP

Someone on the forums linked to podtools. That's all you need. When you follow the directions, it blocks itunes from loading when you plug in your shuffle, and allows you to check the "disk use" box, as so many people have told you to do. This was impossible for me to do under itunes, as my shuffle would dissapear before I could check the box. Now that I have that checked, I can use itunes normally.

  • Have you been having problems with ipod nano 3rd gen?

Have you been having problems with your ipod nano 3rd gen? got a windows xp computer? is your pc not recognizing it? I think i may have the solution. After 2 2 hour calls to apple tech support they were stumped. we reset it again and again, reinstalled itunes again and again. and they had no solution for me. I went to my device managerand there was a device called (apple Ipod USB driver) with a yellow exclamation point. I tried updating driver but to no avail. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and nothing. But then I had an epiphany. I went to the device manager right clicked the apple ipod usb device clicked properties then update driver. Hardware wizard went up and I chose not to install automatically. and i chose to install driver manually. and then I installed a generic usb mass storage driver in its place and presto!!! it worked! it was instantly recognized by itunes and it took me to the registration page. I did what the apple support team wasn't able to do for 4 hours. I wonder if they're accepting applications... Anyway i hope this helps anyone out there cause i know i went through a lot of stress.

the driver is just a regular usb mass storage driver. it's in your computer. it's just a matter of installing it manually where it saya to include the location of the driver click browse and choose c:\windows\system32

  • If you're having problems with USB ports, read on...

i'm reading that alot of people on here are having problems with their front (or top) usb on their cases not working with their k7n2 boards.  i have come across the correct solution to this problem in one of the posts (after having solved the problem on my own), however noone has posted the solution by itself on this forum so everyone can easily see it.
The trick is to make sure that pin 10 (at least on a K7n2 delta-L), the pin labeled USBOC (USB Open Connection), is wired to NOTHING.  If the connector to your front usb ports is fused into one giant connector and it HAS a wire that will connect to this pin (labeled GND2 or Shield or something), CUT THAT WIRE.  Pin 10 on JUSB2 (at least on a K7n2 delta-L) must be OPEN.  If this pin IS connected to something (even if it is only GND), the motherboard will think something is connected to this usb port and you will get many unknown devices listed in your windows device manager and the rest of your usb ports may or may not work.
As a general rule of thumb, if a pin on a motherboard is labeled OC for "Open Connection" and you wire something to it, you're asking for trouble.
If you cannot understand this you should not be attempting to wire a motherboard in the first place.
Here is a picture to go along with this discussion.  If you cannot see this picture, I am sorry for it has probably been removed from the place I posted it online as I cannot attach pictures physically to this post.  If someone here has a way to permanently host this picture and post it to this thread permanently, that would be wonderful.
In summary: all usb ports/headers have only four pins associated with it (VCC, USB+, USB-, GND).  If the connector (whether it's one big connector or individual sockets) to your front/top usb port has 5 sockets, don't connect the 5th socket to anything.  That goes for any case/motherboard combination.  This is what i'm talking about above.  I have no idea why motherboard and case manufacturers have a 5th pin involved in any way on either the pin or socket side.  It is not used for usb.
EDIT:  I just noticed this has already been discussed in the trouble shooting guide in the above sticky post.  oh well, now we have a pretty picture to go along with it (i hope).

    :-D)Hello guys,
as promised I come back here to give the results of my tests... and I have to say that you saved my day (even if I had to open back 60 secured cases).
So the solution was the right one, when I unplugged the "ground" end of the front USB connector cable from the USBOC pin, those connectors finally worked as expected with USB 2.0 compliant devices.
So thank you really much for this very usefull information !
And even if maybe it's not only MSI's fault, I still believe that more information on those connectors in the user's manual would be really usefull (who knows what USBOC means except a few people and who could imagine that pluggin on it a "ground" cable would make it unserviceable ??). And who ever saw a user's manual bundled with a case ?? it's pretty unusual
Hope that someone at MSI will read that and take it into consideration, not for me (because now I'm aware) but for the thousands other consumers that will feel a little bit "annoyed" with that issue. I don't think that adding one line about it in user's manuals would be so much expensive
But I'm quite lucky myself... being able to understand and write english (even if I still have some progress to do  ) gave me the possibility to find the solution... but a lot of my french fellows can't do that... and there's no french forum here... How can they do ? They rely on user's manual
    Best regards,
    Nicolas

  • It looks like the way forward is to delete any apps you are having problems with and reinstall hopefully you have your data on iCloud this seems to work

Looks like deleting and reinstalling the apps your having the problems with works in some cases

Hi Flash, Just some info to correct yours. First, not everyone is having a problem with FP 10.1 and there are solutions and reverting to FP 10.0 would not be the first choice. If that was for you, that's fine. If you would read the many many threads here, you would find correct information for users that want to revert back to FP10.
Also may I suggest you read up on Firefox version 3.6.6 as this is involved sometimes with FP 10.1.
Lastly, I think it is always better to find out what a user's issues are before offering a solution. Reverting back to FP 10.0 is not for everyone that is having a problem nor should it be.
If your instructions solved whatever problem you were having, that's great. However, to recommend this to other users that come here for help without knowing what their problems are may not be the best advice, in my opinion.
There are many other details in the Uninstall Instructions and also the Install Instructions that need to be followed.
That is why it is better for each user to have their own thread and receive help for their individual issues. This is also based on their computer system configuration.
Believe me, if there was one fix for all FP 10.1 or any other version issues, it would be posted
    Thanks,

  • Having Problems With Your Macromedia Flash Player

    Hey having probs, check out
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/triggerpages/flash.html
    (it worked for me)

I've read in the Apple forums that Mavericks will rewrite some firmware (though I've seen no documentation to prove this). Some of the posters who complained about performance after upgrading, have reported the same as you, that the issues don't go away even after a reformat and reinstall of their previous OS.
I've never messed with firmware changes in any Mac I've owned. You may have to contact your local Apple store.

  • When do you know you have a problem with your phone and dropped calls?

My iphone 4 hasn't really been a problem but I've noticed and all the people who call me notice that my phone is dropping a lot of calls. It's almost dropping every other call, and that is awful should I go back to the store and take it back? I don't want to waste anyone's time or should I be angry. I try not to get ****** over a phone but my 3GS never did this.
    Marc

You have 30 days to decide. Albuquerque has good to moderate 3G coverage. It is possible that ATT has again been overloaded with a mass of new phones and may need to make adjustments to their service. I am lucky to live in S Florida where coverage is great. However, if your coverage was marginal to begin with you may have trouble. I would let it sort itself out by July 24 the 30 day mark for most and decide than. The only thing to be mad about is not being able to have the phone you want at this time. In spite of what appears to be a large vocal group on this forum, who are really have problems, most of the 1.7 million phones are not. Again see what plays out in your 30day trial and make your decision accordingly.

  • Please report if you are having issues with your ATV

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html
iTunes 9 created a streaming issue for me.

...it blows my theory that they maybe changed something with later builds.
Not necessarily. In my case, I think there are both hardware and software problems. I think stability issues like random restarts may be related to hardware, and I think the erratic wi-fi problems some people experience may be the result of bad hardware. On the other hand, the stability issues that almost always follow long streaming sessions may be related to memory/cache management issues, which may indicate software.
Streaming high bit-rate audio from a radio playlist seems to be particularly problematic for my ATV. It could be a hardware limitation problem, or it could be that the software can't manage such a data stream reliably for an extended period of time.
For example, if you stream a two-hour movie, the stream data will be cached ahead until all of the video data has been received, then the caching stops as the movie plays from the cache. However, a continuous live stream will never stop caching, and I think that's where the problem may be. Keep in mind that Internet radio wasn't possible until the v2 software, and that's when I began experiencing stability issues related to streaming.

  • Having problems with your epson print after installing Lion?

    Go hear for download.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/#epson%202.8
My Macpro wouldnt do a auto software update for some reason.

    Hello Becky,
I performed all the windows xp updates when I installed xp.
Our computer has labview 6.0 and 6.1 on it. I thought maybe they were causing a problem, so I tried uninstalling them. I downloaded msiblast and tried to remove Labview 6.0 and 6.1, but since they used to be on a network, and the university does not carry those programs anymore, they gave me errors. I was able to uninstall 7.0 and reinstall it, but it still gave me the same error as described in the original post.
I went into the registry and removed 6.0 and 6.1, but it still gives me the same error.
I need a way of removing 6.0 and 6.1 so that I can do a clean install of 7.0.
    Thanks for your help,
    Sergio

  • My macbook pro 2.2ghz, i7 , early 2011 having problem with the graphic card

hi, just need clarification, that i was made to understand that the NVDIA graphic card installed in Macbook Pro, has a warranty of 3 years, eventough without Apple Protection Plan. Can someone clarify this , as i m having problem with it now.

No, the GPU does not have a seperate 'three year warranty'... unless you purchased the extended AppleCare Protection Plan.
If you feel that you're having problems with your GPU, take your machine to your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them run a free diagnostic test. If the card is faulty, and you don't have a APP, you'll have to pay to have the entire logic board replaced.

  • Is there somebody NOT having problems with OS X Server?

I fell into the trap of Apple marketing and bought XServe with the intent to replace our Windows Server 2003 with OS X Server. The problem with Windows was that its licensing is expensive and you need to keep track of many different licenses for every single thing you want (SQL Server, Exchange and the like). It is also somewhat complicated to manage.
My first try was with Leopard 10.5. Oh boy, this didn't work out at all. There were so many problems that even after 10.5.2 I considered seriously moving over to 10.4, which I finally did. I admit that I made some mistakes of my own when I installed 10.5. Most notably of course was the DNS setup, which was not quite right. But there are other known issues (ACL not working for example). So I really trained the setup of 10.4 on my MacBook to the point where I got it right. Then I went forward and reinstalled the 10.4 server, moved over the files and user data.
So, 10.4. It performs much better, less errors, most of the time it works, especially after all the updates. But still it feels very far from the quality of Windows 2003 Server. I hate to say this, but it is true. I am feeling betrayed by Apple, because after using Macs for several years at home and at work (my MacBook), I felt like this is a superior operating system. Not so when I look at the server. Sure, the security holes are there in Windows Server, but they are not so hard to fill and most of the time I could just forget about it. Not so with OS X Server. It is SOOOOO fragile, it almost feels like a china shop. I never know when it will break for no apparent reason. And the things that are so easy to accomplish in Windows (change your IP address or DNS name) are major tasks for OS X administrators and you never know if you will succeed or need to do a full reinstall. So the cost of administration for OS X will quickly become much bigger than the cost of Windows licenses.
The last problem, still unresolved, is the VPN service. This should be a no-brainer, but no, not in the case of OS X. Starting VPN and connecting to it disrupts OD and Kerberos so that there is no other way but to restart the server.
So I am kind of wondering if there are ANY users out there who use the server in a primarily Windows/Linux desktop environment so that OS X Server actually works as intended and doesn't need restarting every day? Now I feel very frustrated about all this.

Hi there, sorry to hear you are having issues with your OS X Server installation.
I have not used it with Windows Clients yet, although I have to say for our use, i.e. database (mySQL), mail, Adobe Coldfusion Application Server (CF8 Standard) and Web-Server use, it is the most stable and fastest performing machine ever. It smashes our previous DELL server with Windows 2003 Web Edition in every aspect.
Also, instead of being prompted to install a patch and re-boot about every two weeks, it runs and runs and runs - and if it ever needs to reboot, all sites are up and running within 2 minutes, I kid you not, this is fantastic for us.
So yes, there are MORE happy users out there!!
But granted, you find more people asking for help than praising a running system in support forums, that's kinda obvious I suppose
Good luck fixing your system! Perhaps worth checking for some professional help in the first round of setup in case you were not used to UNIX systems before? There's a lot to learn coming from Windows I feel, but worth it and in the end usually easily fixed, repaired or even re-installed in a fraction of the time it used to take on Windows, let alone it actually works in the end.
    Best regards,
    Jonas

  • ITunes / iPod having problems with lyrics in MP3 files and not with M4A ?

Over the last two month (without this forum) I believed sometimes to be the only one having a weird problems with iTunes lyric format structure.
Now after more than 50h of investigations interesting results appear.
    The field of trouble:
    a) People are not able to delete lyrics in iTunes
    b) People discover that iTunes and their iPod/iPhone do not show the same lyrics
    c) it seems that the lyrics of certain songs can't synchronised with the iPod
    d) it seems that the problem in iTunes can appear more than one times that itunes corrupts the contents of lyrics in a way that:
    e) the text structure is damaged, no more line breaks, no empty lines between text sections.
After all my suspicion is: All of this trouble can be caused by one problem:
iTunes (at least latest version 9.0.3 (15) has a -unkonwn- problem with the lyric-text structure in MP3-files. It seems that iTunes does not have the same problems if the file is in M4A-file format, created by apple-store files being downloaded, or CDs being converten in iTunes using the build in AAC-converter!
Converting "infected" files (via AAC) to M4A are clean again (on iTunes and iPod) showing no more one of the trouble ahead. The ghost is eliminated. Everything synchronizes as it should be.
And I for myself have to convert more than 3000 songs now... to ged rid of this nightmare.
Now I'm very curious of You experiences. Can You confirm my suspicion? Or have You had similar problems with Your M4A-files too?
    - Best Regards ThomasK_DJ, south Germany

Try this -> http://mp3val.sourceforge.net/ to verify and fix MP3 files.
Also, it could be the version of the ID3 tags.
Select a song in iTunes then go to iTunes menu Advanced -> Convert ID3 tags and select a different version and see what happens.

  • Apple TV having problems with Airplay

    Hi
I'm having problems with Airplay on my Apple TV. It will play A video once then errors out. Wifi has full strength and software is up to date. i have tried forgetting the wifi and reconnecting. This will fix the problem for a moment and then it errors out again. Netflix and everything else seems to be working fine just airplay keeps kicking me out. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hi mrshoughton,
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your Apple TV. If you continue to have issues with Airplay performance from your device/computer to your Apple TV, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following articles helpful. In particular, if you are using Airplay from iTunes on a computer, you may want to rule out any WiFi issues by temporarily connecting your computer and your Apple TV directly to your router via Ethernet, as noted in the second article below:

  • Having problems with login with bank today. Then...

Well my bank just listed a warning on their site that those customers with FF are having problems logging in. I still tried and yep I can't login either. Also last week when I was on Lee's jean site and looking at pants not all the offerings were show on the page since I was talking with customer service rep. I had no idea it was not pulling up everything. So I have no error message to tell me when FF is not doing it's job. This concerns me since I have no way of knowing if I am getting entire search results using FF. Now my bank is having problems with your browser. So I am resorting to Chrome for now. I like the idea of FF and all but when it impacts so many important abilities online I really can't justify using FF. I know you all are doing your best but I also have to do my best too and using FF is not going to get me the best results right now. Have no idea what is going on. I also just clicked the check our browser on your site to see if I needed updates and what it did instead is it took out all addons and well that was another reason I am not sure what is going on here at FF. I also have been having crash problems with Adobe Flash too with browser off and on for months and I just keep reporting it but it still keeps cropping up. I think maybe it also has something to do with FF. Any addons I have had I installed from your website and I didn't have much at all in addons either. Pinterest is the only one I can think of. I also have problems with my browser locking up like for watching videos online and maybe that has to do with Adobe Flash??? I have no idea and so many things have been glitchy off and on with browser that I am tired of it all and need to find better alternative. Thanks and good luck : (

No I don't feel quiet sure about posting the screen shots of my bank here. But it is Columbia Bank in Washington State that has a warning to their customers who are using FF. "A recent update to Firefox is creating access problems for some customers in Personal Online Banking. We are working on a resolution as quickly as possible. If you are experiencing difficulty accessing Personal Online Banking while using FF we recommend accessing from a different browser until the issue has been resolved. "
When I click and try it anyways I get:
"Secure Connection Failed to web9.secureinternetbank.com It was interrupted while the page was loading. The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified. Please contact the website owners to inform of this problem."
I switched to Chrome this morning and I was able to access bank account no problem. I also went to daily mail and usually my computer gets whiny with all the ads that load up and none of them loaded with Chrome it was way better.
Watched a video and no problems. I appreciate the suggestion to Sea Monkey but I have done that browser before. I forget why I left SM long time ago but had to be a good reason. IF FF is not that well supported then I would seriously doubt that SM would be any better. I have too much to do to play tech detective on this or that. I don't care for Google docs since so limited on what you can do with those programs and don't like how invasive it is but I am strapped for time and can't wait for open source to catch up. I have waited so many years and I have pretty much given up. When my desktops give out I may even consider Apple at this point which I NEVER thought I would do.
