SO8 (Windows) Update 4 download
Been trying to download latest SO8 patch for weeks.
Unfortunately, I am on dialup, and lose connection/download after several hours.
Have tried using Sun Download Manager 1.3 (...."that makes downloading large software packages from the Sun Download Center fast, easy".....), but consistently get error message:
"Server sunsolve.sun.com reported response code 403 for file pdownload.pl"
"Server sunsolve.sun.com reported response message (Forbidden) for file pdownload.pl"
I am not behind a proxy.
"http://sunsolve.sun.com" has been added to to "Authenticated Hosts List", along with User/Password.
Can anyone pls advise? (Going crazy here)
Thanx in advance
Thanx for response Doozer.
Are you on ISDN or Analogue dial up?ISDN
What country are you in?US
Are you able to successfully access your account on
SunSolve?Yes (otherwise download area cannot be accessed)
Are you able to download other large files ok?Yes (use a download manager due to limitations/inherent problems w/ dialup.
What entry URL are you using to get to the file?http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/pdownload.pl?target=120187-07&method=h
Once I have these I will try from my end on my
SunSolve account and see if I have the same issues. My "regular" download mgr did not work. OK, I figured, it must be an authentication issue.
Download w/ Sun Download Mgr fails as well with the "forbidden" error.
P.S. I have previously DL'd earlier SO8 patches w/o prob.

Will Windows XP still get Windows Update download?
I am thinking of wiping out an XP Home netbook and re-installing it from scratch. I understand Microsoft is not supporting Windows XPs any more. Will the newly re-installed Windows XP get automatic Windows update download from Microsoft of
whatever Microsoft has already developed.Yes, it will. As per MS : "There are no current plans to remove existing Windows XP security updates from Windows Update after end of support on April 8, 2014,"

Windows Updates downloaded but not installing
I've created update list en deployments like I always do, but updates won't get installed.
In the UpdatesDeploymentsw.log I see updates being downloaded, they are saved in the cache folder.
But installation won't start on any computer.
Which log or error can me help troubleshooting this problem?
Kind regards,
DennisAll of the logs are listed at
Does the deployment containing the updates have a deadline in the future or past?
Do you have maintenances windows in place?
Jason | http://blog.configmgrftw.com | @jasonsandys
Deadline is set in the past and no maintenance windows are active.

Windows update error code 80246002
I have 4 PCs running Windows 7 (both 64 and 32 bit) and found that after the last update on Wednesday morning, all 4 are now getting a code 80246002 when I did a check for updates today. I tried uninstalling the latest updates and this did not help. On 2
of the PCs, I did a restore to a week ago (when I know that there had been at least two successful checks for updates and this did not resolve the problem. I have seen a lot of posts implying that this is related to KB 2982791 and KB 2993651 but uninstalling
these didn’t resolve the issue.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this?
Mize JohnsonHi,
If you receive Windows Update error 80246002 while checking for updates, it means that files required by Windows Update might be damaged. This often can be corrected by renaming the Windows Update download folder, and then running Windows Update again.
Try to run the following commands:
1. Type net stop wuauserv. Hit Enter.
2. Type: ren c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old.
Hit Enter.
3. Type: net start wuauserv. Hit Enter.
4. Type: exit and hit Enter.
If it doesn't resolve the issue, run this "Fix It" tool below:

Windows update error 800f0246 when installing printer driver
I have Win 7 pro 64 bit and an HP3520 printer. HP site says a Windows 7 driver is available via windows update. When I go into Windows update, the drivers shows up under optional downloads. When I try to download and install it it fails with error code 800f0246. All other updates install fine. I tried multiple times with the same error.
When I go into device manager the printer is listed under other devices with an icon indicating a driver issue. When I try to update the driver it finds the downloaded driver that Windows update downloaded. I select it and it fails.
I have Windows 7 beta still on my laptop and the printer driver installs from windows update just fine.
Any ideas? No go. Uninstalled, rebooted, tried to reinstall again, still failed. Fails when the printer is disconnected as well. The HP site does not have a driver for manual install. Any links for a driver lead to here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01874792&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=305968 Those steps do not work because the driver in windows update fails to install.

On 10/16/14 I downloaded 11 critical Windows Updates (I have the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Pro).
All updates ran successfully, but after the updates, Firefox would not run. Instead I got the error “Couldn’t Load XPCOM”. Internet Explorer was working. I reinstalled Firefox . I did not delete it and then reinstall it, I just downloaded Firefox.
That worked and I can now use Firefox, but I have several other problems:
• I lost all my Bookmarks
• I lost some of my History. I can only view history for “Today” and “Yesterday” in the Library. I am missing “Last 7 days” (except for 10/16 and later) and “This Month” history view.
I have been trying to research how to fix this on my own for the past several days, even though I am very non-tech savy.
I tried the following, but none of these things has corrected the bookmarks or history problem:
• I did a System Restore to 10/13/14
• I tried to do a System Restore to 10/12/14. I got the error “Did not complete successfully. Unspecified error 0x8000ffff”.
• I reset Firefox to its default state.
• I tried to change the Privacy setting for Firefox history from “Remember History” to “Use custom setting for history” followed by checking “Remember my browsing and download history”, “Remember search and form history”, and “Accept cookies from site”. I am unable to change this. It always reverts back to “Remember History”.
I located only one Profile Manager, which I found by going through the Windows start menu with "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" –p.
I found "bookmarkbackups" under my Profile Folder. The oldest bookmark folder listed is from 10/16/2014.
Could someone please help me get all my Bookmarks and History back from before the 10/16/2014 updates? Thank you.Hi askmozilla, yes, the Previous Versions tab in the Properties dialog for the places.sqlite files in the oldest of those folders.
I'm not sure whether Windows can match that file up with earlier restore points once the folder is moved from its original location to the desktop.
I wonder whether there is any way to access the restore point created on 10/16 just before Windows installed the updates. That really would be the best place to look if possible. -
I had downloaded and installed one of those automatic Windows update and now whenever I try to open my Firefox I get an error message, "Platform version 6.0.2 is not compatible with minVersion >6.0.1 maxVersion <6.0.1
If you use ZoneAlarm Extreme Security then try to disable Virtualization.
Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder.

I noticed the Windows Firewall Entry in the diagnostics, so I did get that part squared away...
Windows Firewall is on.
iTunes is enabled in Windows Firewall.
Connection attempt to Apple web site was successful.
Connection attempt to browsing iTunes Store was successful.
Connection attempt to purchasing from iTunes Store was successful.
Connection attempt to iPhone activation server was successful.
Connection attempt to firmware update server was successful.
Connection attempt to Gracenote server was successful.

Still unable to detect the iPhone though. -
Why won't my computer allow to download windows updates?

After downloading the latest Windows updates I found that I could not play videos on YouTube or at other sites. Switching to other browsers I found I could play those same videos now without any problem. So I did a System Restore to determine if the Windows updates had affected video play using Firefox. The restore point was set to the day before the Windows download occurred. After System Restore was completed I could now play videos using the Firefox browser.
To make sure that the Windows update was the problem, I again downloaded the newest Windows Updates and once again could not play videos on any site using Firefox. System restore was used to again reset my computer to the day before and once again the videos would ow play in the Firefox browser.Actually your reply took me in another direction and I found this on the Adobe site:
The RealPlayer extension for Firefox, Downloading & Recording, has compatibility issues with Flash Player 11.3. If RealPlayer is installed Flash Player content does not appear. YouTube provides an error message when you try to watch a video.
As a workaround, do the following:
Start RealPlayer.
Click the RealPlayer icon in the upper-left corner and select Preferences.
Select Download & Recording in the left menu and deselect Enable Web Download & Recording for These Installed Browsers option.
Click OK and restart Mozilla Firefox.
Once I followed this I could now again play videos in Firefox. -
Some computers download and install the two approved updates, others only download Windows Update Agent and not the approved updates.

SCCM Client PC's failing to download/install Windows Updates
Hi,
Last month I noticed that our client PC's, shortly after they had built (using SCCM Task Sequence) were downloading and installing Windows Updates using the usual Windows Update process. What I mean is, I had Software Centre showing Updates as installing,
but also had the Windows Update agent installing various updates. It was also showing in the start menu (Yellow icon saying Shut down and install updates). Now my understanding is, that that shouldn't of been happening, and only SCCM/Software Centre should
be showing Windows Updates as installing.
I noticed that we had some GPO's set for Windows Updates, which I have disabled, as I believed these were not necessary. Also, I like to control my Updates via SCCM Software Update groups after testing them, and not just allow clients to grab any updates
that are required and approved.
My problem now is, none of the clients are getting/installing any updates. I'm getting the following errors in the WUAHandler.log:
Unable to read existing WUA resultant policy. Error = 0x80070002.
WUAHandler

So, I've checked in:
HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windowa\WindowsUpdate\ & HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
and neither have a WSUS server set. I'm assuming this is correct?
RSOP shows all policies in \\Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update as
DISABLED
GPEDIT shows \\Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update\Specify intranet Microsoft update service location as
Enabled and as our server (https://XXX.XXX:8531) - I'm assuming this is what SCCM client sets as if I changed this setting and then restart the setting comes back. If it was a Group Policy conflict then I
would expect to see it in RSOP.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm puzzled as to what to look at next. Is my first assumption of having 0 group policies configured for WSUS correct? Am I also correct in assuming Windows Updates shouldn't show in Control panel, or at the Start > Shutdown
prompt, and only show in Software Centre?
Thanks, and sorry for the long winded post!Hey Jason,
Thanks for replying and explaining the WUA stuff. That made sense to be but my mind was being clouded by the issue all of the PC's/Clients onsite were, and are still getting. I cleared out the Group Policy cache as detailed on the link.
- Cleared C:\Program Data\Microsoft\Group Policy\History\*.*
- Ran a gpupdate /force
- Restarted PC
Issue still remains. Here is the output from the WUAHandler.log

Download non-english updates from Windows Update Catalog
Hi, I would like to integrate all updates to install image. However, I must select all language of each updates on Windows Updates Catalog each by each. Any idea to download all updates with differance language as easier?
thanksHi,
I'm afraid that it is inevitable and you have to tick "Select all" for each update if you want to download all language of Updates. Why do you want to integrate all language updates into an image? if you need additional language user
interface, then you just need language pack added to your image.

Windows update & store download error on proxy
i cannot update windows and it so some error. and i use the proxy server so i cannot to down load the apps . please help me to resolve it , please remember i know very few basics about computer
Hello muralitharan665,
Do you mean that you use the proxy in Internet Explorer and can’t download windows updates and store apps as normal?
Is this computer domain-joined or personal?
If the computer is domain-joined, we need to contact the IT department administrator and check if the attempt to manually install the Windows updates and store apps meet the policy.
Do you receive any error message when you use the Windows updates and try to download Windows store apps?
Please take the following steps for troubleshooting:
1. Check if we can normally visit the webpage without proxy
2. Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\All Categories, run Windows updates troubleshooter and share us the error message.
Best regards,
Fangzhou CHEN
