SOA Suite Components on JBoss - not possible?

Hi,
I am currently evaluating the Oracle SOA products for a new project.
We would like to use JBoss instead of OC4J and use Oracle BPEL Process Manager, Oracle ESB and Oracle Web Service Manager.
Running on OC4J is not possible, especially since Oracle will replace it with Weblogic in the next release.
What I have found are instructions for installing BPEL PM and the whole SOA Suite on JBoss.
These are VERY COMPLEX and CUMBERSOME (two patches have to be installed semi-manually) installations and I have not been able to make them work in my first attempt.
For ESB and WSM I have not seen any information at all.
We have not bought the products yet and I have to say that this is a very bad start in the evaluation of product quality and support quality.
Please clarify if Oracle's support for alternative application servers only exists in the data sheets or also in reality.
If we purchase the components, will we have access to other installables that run directly on JBoss?
If anyone has good experience with Oracle SOA on JBoss I'd be glad to know.
Kind Regards
Fabian

Fabian,
Oracle's support for other applications servers such as JBoss, Websphere, WebLogic, etc is more a sales story than something that people do in practice. Oracle doesn't want to lose a sale because a customer has a strategic alliance with a particular application server. So they support SOA Suite on the main competitors. Licensing is a dark art and I couldn't give you a 100% guarantee on how SOA Suite is sold but to get SOA Suite you need to license enterprise Application Server. SOA Suite is on top of this. If you turn it around if you buy SOA suite you get Oracle Application Server enterprise edition (includes OC4J) for free.
So if you are looking at using JBoss for a cost cutting exercise I don't believe the licensing at Oracle will help you.
The install for SOA Suite is the install for ESM + WSM, there is no separate install for these products for thrid party application servers. So you topology is not as flexible as it could be is you used Oracle Application Server.
Your proposed option of SOA Suite (ESB, WSM) is an option using the document provided in previous post.
When I say Oracle Application Server I mean Oracles existing Application Server, Not Web Logic. There is currently a progression of porting the OC4J apps to Weg Logic, this should be completed when 11g arrives. There are a few version release before this happens, each one providing more functionality.
If I was you I would understand the price of SOA Suite on JBoss as apposed to Oracle Application Server. If the price comes close then I would go with using the Oracle Application Server. If you want to use the ESB, I would go with Aqua Logic installed on WLS. Currently SOA Suite is not certified on the 10.3 release hence keep it on the Oracle Application Server. There will be a migration path to 11g next year.

  • SOA Suite components

    Hello everyone.
    I'm currently in the process of evaluating the Oracle SOA Suite. I have problems to find out the components that are really part of the suite---there seems to be a lot of contradicting information around. In the datasheet, as well as on the SOA Suite homepage, I read that Oracle BAM was included in the package. But after installing the current version (10.1.3.3 + patchset): no BAM to be found. Same with Registry. What's going on? I find this rather frustrating. What does one get buying the SOA Suite?!
    Thanks and greets,
    Jan.

    Hi Marc, thanks for your hint.
    But I cannot find specific information about the suite's components in the pricelist (http://www.oracle.com/corporate/pricing/technology-price-list.pdf), it justs lists SOA Suite and BAM seperately. So I assume that it ain't part of the suite and has to be purchased independently. I think Oracle should remove it from the suite's product sheet and the "SOA Suite Components" list (shown at http://www.oracle.com/technologies/soa/soa-suite.html) as this is rather misleading ;-)
    Thanks,
    Jan.

  • SOA Suite 10g on JBoss

    We tried a pilot at (Oracle client) and ran into numerous challenges (i.e. SOA server going down by itself, nothing in the log files, etc).
    Is SOA Suite now certified on JBoss. Is this a stable combination ?
    If anyone else used this configuration for a medium size organization how stable was the SOA Suite on JBoss solution - i.e.on a 1-10 scale 10meaning perfectly stable.
    Also, uninstalling submodules of SOA suite is not a straight forward process, rather challenging wehen using JBoss vs oc4j
    (i.e. tried to uninstall BPEL and keep ESB only, but things got ‘broken’ for other components that proved to be in fact dependencies, after that attempt to scale down the install).
    Obviously for the future we recommend switching to version 11 with Weblogic, however we want to use the work/effort invested in this pilot project by a middleware team.
    Many thanks for related feedback!

  • Install SOA suite components on different cpu

    If we buy one copy of the CPU license of SOA suite (list price 65,000/cpu), can we deploy its components on different CPUs? For example, can we run its Portal on one machine, its BEPL Process manager on the second machine, and BAM on a third machine. Is their a limitation on how many CPUs we can run the one SOA suite (CPU) license? Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi everyone,
    I had the same problem for months with many PC Suite versions & both XP service packs until I tried a phone setting just for testing and everything worked out fine In my phone (3110c) under Settings / Connectivity / Data Transfer / PC Sync, I filled in a random User name & Password and voila!!! All contacts copied just fine!!! I hope this works with other models with the same menu as well. It looks that it's not a PC Suite problem after all (at least for me that is).
    Hope I helped you guys

  • Oracle SOA Suite - SOAP Fault content not being returned

    It starts with a fairly standard scenario: from within a BPEL process in Oracle SOA Suite, I’m making a call to an external web service. The not-so-standard part: the owner of the external web service has decided to return all errors in the form of a SOAP fault. Unfortunately, this error schema is not included in the WSDL. If we call the external web service directly (via SOAPUI, for example), we get the following, including a nice explanation of why it errored out:
    <soapenv:Fault xmlns:soapenv="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:err="error.xml.common">
    <faultcode>soapenv:Server</faultcode>
    <faultstring>Undefined</faultstring>

    </err:Error>

    ... 38 more</err:StackTrace>
    </err:ErrorList>
    </detail>
    </soapenv:Fault>
    No matter what I try, however, I can’t fetch the information in the “detail” element above. When examining the audit trail in SOA Suite, I can only see this:
    <fault>
    <faultType>0</faultType>
    <remoteFault>
    <part name="summary">
    <summary>Undefined</summary>
    </part>
    <part name="detail">

    </part>
    <part name="code">
    <code>null</code>
    </part>
    </remoteFault>
    </fault>
    It seems SOA Suite is “protecting” my service from the other SOAP fault elements instead of passing everything back, only passing the faultstring element. I even tried adding an ErrorList schema to match theirs but to no avail. Anyone out there have any experience, luck or ideas with this problem?
    Thanks for the assistance,

  • Components backflush alone not possible

    Dear gurus
    we are using repetative manufacturing module.
    In MFBF we are doing assembly back flush(GR) and components backflush (GI) separately. we can able post assembly back flush.But while posting components backflush we are getting a error message"RM:149 production version not found".I checked for necessary settings (mrp4 ) in material master, all are maintained.
    can anyone help regard this?

    Hi
    Check for Validty  datesof The Production version
    Check the repetitive manufacturing Allowed indiactors in PV view as well as the MRP 4 view.
    Ensure correct lot size.
    Use the Check tab inside production version to ensure that the data is consistent..You should see Green traffic lights in the PV
    Then do backflush .It will work.
    Also check your product cost collector whether it is in GREEN . Cos even Product cost collector will not work if PV is not correct .

  • Trying to integrate with User Messaging Service adapter in SOA suite.Can it be possible through an JMS interface.

    Trying to integrate with User Messaging Service adapter in SOA suite. Can it be possible through an JMS interface.
    I have an JMS backend integrated to Oracle B2B. Is it possible to send an email protocol message using JMS interface to B2B where User messaging Service has been implemented. The adapters required for UMS have been deployed and the sdpmessaging jar files also have been added to the classpath. The only problem i face is i dont have an BPEL system to integrate where as in the forums it has been mentioned how to post a message using BPEL.
    Please let me know if there is a way to integrate the adapter with JMS interface.
    Thanks in advance
    Deepak

    If I remember correct, to use JCA adapter with SOA stack requires that adapter implement some Oracle API.
    The Adapter SDK is a light-weight tool kit that enables rapid implementation and deployment --- http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/integration/adapters/pdf/DS_OracleASAdapter.pdf
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B16981_04/current/acrobat/cct115dg.pdf
    Mostly you will have to wrap your jca adapter to make it available in SOA suite/stack.
    Other option is that you adapter provider would have given CCI interface or some custom interface which can be used for invoking adapter end-points.

  • SOA suite not starting up

    Hi,
    I am trying to start soa suite, and it is not starting up. It had been working fine till yesterday, and now it has stopped working. I have restarted my machine couple of times, but that doesnt seem to help. It has some problems making a http connection to the orabpel process at http://localhost:8888/orabpel . It tries all the combinations as localhost, pdalmia-us, ip address etc etc, but still not able to make connection. It looks like the server itself does not get started because I can not browse to http://localhost:8888 to get to the em page. Please help.

Check the host, port and other connection parameters for the "MDS_LocalTxDataSource" data-source. Verify the details by trying to connect the same MDS schema from any database client. By the way, the error is quite clearly mentioned in this case, which is "Unknown host specified". I guess, the host entry is invalid.

  • Single SOA Suite Install with multiple oc4j instances and java processes

    We right now have 5 BPEL processes and 5 ESB processes all running under one java.exe process. We would like to seperate some of
    them out into their own java.exe processes without having to install more
    %ORACLE_HOME% instances of SOA Suite. I can create an oc4j instance but of
    course it doesn't have any SOA Suite stuff deployed to it. I tried to see what
    the install would do with this new oc4j instance but it wants to create a new
    %ORACLE_HOME% with an entire installation of SOA Suite.
    Is there some sort of way to clone oc4j instances that have SOA Suite deployed to them so that you
    don't need multiple %ORACLE_HOME% instances?
    ### How is this Issue Impacting Your Business ###
    We really don't want to have a lot of %ORACLE_HOME% instances to have to maintain. We are
    migrating projects over from our current integration server product and we'll
    have potentially dozens more BPEL and ESB projects. We definitely want to
    group and isolate projects so that outages of one project do not bring down
    others that are unrelated.
    We are currently experiencing periodic problems with one BPEL project that requires recycling but all the other BPEL and ESB
    projects get recycled also. If we could put this project into it's own java
    process without creating another SOA SUITE instance, it would be a big
    help.
    ANSWER
    =======
    You can create multiple domains in BPEL or create multiple systems/groups in ESB to group different projects.
    MY REPLY:
    =========
    We have been using systems/groups in ESB but they all run under the save java.exe process. I would assume that having a seperate domain in BPEL would also run in that same java.exe process.
    Right now, the one BPEL project we have a problem with will gobble up all the JDBC connections from time to time and that requires a recycle of SOA Suite, which means all BPEL and ESB projects that run in that java.exe process get recycled also. We're working that issue in a different ticket.
    It would be nice if the SOA Suite installation would install against a new oc4j instance and not assume it has to create a complete %ORACLE_HOME% instance. The components of SOA Suite seem to be J2EE based components.
    Scenario: I already have an oc4j instance called oc4j_soa and a complete %ORACLE_HOME% installation of soa suite. I then create a new oc4j instance from Enterprise Manager. Then I would deploy the esb-dt, esb-rt, orabpel, etc. components of SOA Suite to that new oc4j instance and modify the necessary config file so that it can work with OHS and the SOA Suite Databases. Is this possible?
    Does anyone have any experience with this or do people typically install multiple complete installation of SOA Suite with mulitple Oracle Homes?

    Hi,
    yes, on metalink you get in touch with real experts....
    You have to install serveral application servers to get different ORACLE_HOMEs.
    For each one, you can install a BPEL PM.
    But: For each BPEL PM you need your own database instance, or you have to configure them as a clustered BPEL installation.... (but i do not know if this work with non RAC DBs)

  • Relate to DehydrationStore in Oracle Soa suite 11g

    Can you explain what are the steps required to configure dehydration store ?
    In DB which contain the dehydration store informtion?

    Hi,
    Dehydration store is a part of the *<prefix>_SOAINFRA* schema. When you install the SOA Suite, as part of the installation process you will have to use RCU (Repository Creation Utility) to create various schemas needed for the SOA Suite components. Hence while run the RCU to create SOAINFRA schema which has tables for dehydration store. You do not need to create it separately.
    Hope this clarifies your doubt.
    Thanks,

  • SOA Suite & Weblogic Suite licenses

    Hi
    I need help to understand the difference in licensing between SOA Suite and Weblogic Suite.

    Edited by: 890736 on 2011-okt-13 03:58

    Hi Martin
    As far as I know, the licenses are different for both these products.
    1. Weblogic Server has its own license and this Weblogic Suite DO NOT include any SOA Suite components. It just includes weblogic server and coherence.
    2. SOA Suite has its own license and this do NOT include any Weblogic server. SOA Suite includes like soa components, BPM, business rules, BAM, WebServicesManagement etc. Now, this SOA Suite can be installed only on top of the Weblogic Server.
    So if you want to use SOA/BPM Suite, then first you need to buy license for Weblogic Server. Then buy SOA/BPM Suite License.
    This is how it was 2 yrs back when SOA 11.3 was released. I think, same thing applies to latest versions also.
    Incase if licensing has changed recently, I hope someone from Oracle Product Team, can share their views.
    Thanks

  • Regarding Oracle SOA suite patch

    Hi All,
    From the following URL I find that :-
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/101310.html
    SOA suite patch set 10.1.3.4 has been released.
    However not sure whether this patch set can be applied on top of 10.1.3.1 version and that too on standalone Oracle BPEL 10.1.3.1. So will it upgrade 10.1.3.1 directly to 10.1.3.4?
    Again if I am using the metalink for the 10.1.3.3 patch against patch no:-6906880, I am finding that the product name is only Oracle BPEL and not soa suite patch. So will this patch upgrade all soa suite components of 10.1.3.1 to 10.1.3.3?
    Again for installing Oracle SOA suite on third party servers separate installers are available from:-
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/101310.html
    so will only this installer be enough to install soa suite on third party servers or again according to the Installation guide we need to install soa suite 10.1.3.1 version also?
    Please advice me which one to use to upgrade to the correct stable version from 10.1.3.1?
    Thanks.

    6906880 is for the entire SOA Suite. This specific version is 10.1.3.3.1 MLR 8
    They are now up to MLR 12, patch 7167518. If you read the readme for these, you'll see that they patch ESB as well as BPEL.
    These patches are used for either the "Advanced Install" of the complete suite or will work with a standalone installation of BPEL or ESB.
    From other notes I've seen, you should be up to at least 10.1.3.3.1 MLR 9.
    Supposedly 10.1.3.4 is only up to the MLR 7 level so keep that in mind.

  • OSB vs SOA suite

    What is difference and relationship between OSB and SOA suite?
    I see much much overlap between the two.
    1.DB adapter, mq adapter, file adapter, app adapter,etc, exist in oracle service bus 10.3.1.Also SOA suite 11g has all theses components.
    2.OSB is a WL domain in running time, SOA suite is also a WL domain in running time.
    The difference is OSB does not support BPEL but SOA suite does.
    Seems most of things done by OSB can also been done by SOA suite.
    In what scenario we should use OSB and in what scenario we should use SOA suite instead?
    Can someone give some helps on this?
    Thanks

    OSB is like the name says a 'Service Bus' and the soa suite is a suite of components which can be used to create a service oriented architecture. In this suite there isn't and service bus available for you.
    So both products complement each other.
    It's true most actions can be done in both the products/suites, but you should see them both in 1 total solution. After that decide what you design in the osb and what you design in the soa suite components.
    if you check wikipedia for the definition of a service bus, you will see what the strengths are (or should be), some line virtualization/transformation/routing/etc.
    from my point of view i would say, you create your interface on the service bus, keep the flows in the service bus lightweigh, and route to the 'real' services. These could be modelled in the soa suite components, and in there do the business logic
