Soap and Flash Lite 3

Hi all,
I would like to know if soap is going to be supported by
flash lite 3, and if so, could anyone provide me any sample of code
of a web service request or a reference to the api that could help
me in this task.
thanks beforehand

hi,
Could you find an answer or a solution? I have been looking for the same.

• Difference between FP7 and Flash Lite

can anybody tell me what the difference is between FP7 and
Flash Lite? I only want to view content not create it. Can Flash
Lite play embedded media players? (i had FP7 installed on my iPAQ
but i cannot view any of the embedded media players on the BBC News
website. Do i need Flash Lite instead of FP7, or as well as??)
thaks

Hi,
At a time in the past we provided FP7 for PPC devices and
some consumer electronics like the Wii because this was easier to
integrate than Flash.. or met the customers requirements better.
For the past year we have been transitioning OEM customers to
Flash Lite and this is our goal ongoing.
We have launched a new product called Flash Lite
Distributable Player to address the needs of the Windows Mobile
developer community. To be clear PPC is not supported for web
browsing unless your web browser ships with Flash Lite support.

• Captivate and Flash lite 2.1 for Mobile

Hi, I need to visualize a SWF file in my Intermec CN3 HH, but
when I try to do that, visualization isn't good, i've installed
Adobe flash lite 2.1 and MFlashPlayer 7 to visualize my SWF, but

I exported from Captivate 3 that SWF file compatible with Flash 7,
do i need to make it compatible with flash lite 2.1, do i need to
export to Flash CS3, and then export from there to flash lite 2.1?,

There are several things in Captivate 2 that are not viewable

The above article should help you create a project file that

• Best Practices: Flash Player 10.1 and Flash Lite 4

I've found the documentation for Flash Lite 4.  It appears to support most everything you'd want to do in AS3, aside from some desktop-specific APIs like Clipboard, File, ContextualMenu, etc..
I've also noticed that there's a Flash Lite 4 compile target in Flash CS5.  Would it be considered a best-practice to target Flash Lite 4 instead of Flash Player 10 for web content?  (Obviously, desktoppy web apps would still need to be compiled for 10).

TJ,
Thanks for your great feedback and your kind words.  I'll certainly be making sure the team sees your comments, though I can't say we'll have 10.1 in place for you by Monday.
Thanks

• Does the Flash 8 and Flash Lite 2.0 has the same SWF file format?

Flash Lite 2.0 is based on the Flash Player 7 and supports
most of the features in that version of Flash Player, also, the
Flash Lite 2.0 provides serval features not avaliable in Flash
Player 7.
My Question:
I've download the File Format Specification of Macromedia

but, I don't know whether the Flash Lite 2.0 has the same SWF file

If the SWF file format is different, where can I get the file
format for Flash Lite 2.0?
Thanks in advance.

Yes .. it is a little different .. got some extras and has
some
restrictions. But there is a lot that is the same.
There is a separate section on mobile devices (in the Adobe

can get info on the format (or at least, there was for flash

I don't know if it has PTT.

• Problem with Nokia 5200 and Flash Lite themes...

My problem is pretty simple to ask, but maybe not to easy to answer...
I downloaded many Flash Lite themes for my Nokia 5200, and my problem is that the animated icons for the grid (that are SWF files) don't show/animate.
Is it supposed to be like that?
The firmware is v5.53

Oh, I forgot this...
In Carbide.ui, the icons DO animate as they should.

• SWF's and Flash Lite

Hi there,
I have a question in regards to development......The swf's
that are produced, do they have to be run in the browser
environment of the mobile or can they be run just stand-alone...In
other words, the user uploads the swf into their mobile handset,
and just runs it, not in the browser environment, like an .exe
file? Also, it would be very nice if Adobe in the near future,
could somehow install all those nice effects from Adobe After
Effects to work with Flash, that would be something.......Take care
and God Bless...

Hi there Punchkickinteractive,
Thanks for the quick response, I have Flash MX, and it's
been a while since I haven't updated, but when I saw Adove Device
Central and that's included in Flash CS3, then things began to look
brighter for flash. I can still upgrade, right? since I have Flash
MX, $200.00 for the upgrade?
So then the user doesn't have to be in the net(mobile) in
order to view the swf, right? Cause, we all know that folks have to
pay to have access to the internet via their mobile....This is far
better than making a .mobi site, if you ask me...Although,
currently I'm doing one with php and mysql more like a
directory....And Flash offers me the opportunity to do it without
the user having to have access to the internet.........
Yes, you have a good point in regards to AE, I did downloaded
AE a while back, and was completely turned off in regards to the
interface, it's so barbaric, if you ask me. I mean the interface of
Flash is so easy to understand, the timeline, ect......but with AE,
my God............:) Though, it has some awesome effects, but the
price isn't awesome though.....:)
Well, I thank you for the quick response and God Bless
You.....:)

• Flex 2 and Flash Lite 2

Been looking all over and can't find a solid answer. I have a
Flex 2 application, how do I make it usable on my phone, PDA, or
Blackberry, etc.. Any handheld mobile devices?? Or is it
possible??

Hi,
Unfortunately this doesn't have anything to do with the FlexUnit code itself. These are bugs inside of the Flash Builder plugin. You may want to post on their forum as well to try to get some support.
The only advice I can offer, is that things seem to work much better if I consistently use the Execute FlexUnit Tests, which can be found under the run button. They work much less well if I right click and tell it to execute tests.

• SharedObject and Flash Lite 2 --has anybody made it work?

http://www.mediafire.com/?uytnzzyn4md
I made this little sample file to get a handle on SharedObjects.  Got it functioning just fine in Flash Player 10.  (AS 2.0)
But I tried to make it work in the emulator, and couldn't get any phone that supports SharedObjects to read the data back into Flash once it's written out.
I tried Nokia 6290,6600,7210, and others that have a device profile that shows support for the shared object.
But none of them read data back off the disk.
Has anybody been able to make the shared object work in the emulator?
:<)McFrisco

Yeah, it does work, both in emulator and mobile device. You should keep following things in mind while working with SharedObject in FL:
1. Use a listener object event handler when reading the SO
2. Make use of getSize() method to determine whethet the data exists in SO or not
3. Reading/Writing to SO is slow on mobile devices so, you might want to give it some time by giving 1-2 frames interval
4. Store the returned value of flush() method; it returns 'true' if data was successfully written, 'false' if not written and 'pending' if it is taking time
5. Most important:
           - You CANNOT share SharedObject data between SWFs even if you have given same SO name. One SWF can access it's own SO, if you create a copy of the same SWF then also it would not be able to pick the same SO.
           - The SO changes everytime when you publish and deploy the app on a device.
There is a very good article on DevNet about FL SO: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/devices/articles/persistent_data.html

• Getting Big Headache, What is difference between Flash Lite 3.1 and Flash Player 7

Hello, I am asking questions about the two similar yet different programs for Pocket PC version only:
1) Which came first, Flash Lite 3.1 or Flash Player 7?
2) If I have both in my Pocket PC, will there be product incompatibility?
3) What is the difference between Flash Lite 3.1 and Flash Player 7.
4) I have a Flash Lite 3.1 but uninstall information says "Flash Lite 3.1 for Opera Mobile", did you releaase this? Is this an illegal copy? A developer's copy?
*I don't know exactly where I got it, but I got it from the HTC developer's forum: XDA-developers.com
*I also use Opera mobile, a web browser for Pocket PC's.
5) What is difference between Flash Lite 3.1 and Flash Lite 3.1 for Opera? Is the only difference is that Flash Lite Supports everything flash related, while Flash Lite Opera supports only flash in opera?
Hi, I don't expect all answers, but I hope someone or someone from adobe support can clear some things up for me.

The program under my "remove programs" list is specifically called "Adobe Flash Lite for Opera". The XDA forums people said along time ago that it was Flash Lite, and kept calling it Flash Lite, and not Flash Player 7.
Now what about this:
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashlite/version/
The table shows the differences between FP 7 SDK, FL 2.1, and FL 3.1. And it's quite obvious that FL 3.1 has way more features than Flash Player 7. What does SDK mean? And why are you telling me FP 7 has more features?
With this information, can you or anyone else provide any more details and clarification?

• Serious bugs in Flash Lite 2.1

I've noticed some pretty serious problems when when working
with Flash Lite 2.1 on on a device, on a device simulator, and on
the Flash 8 emulator. There were no Object watches or any other
kind of behind-the-scenes mayhem when I found these bugs. Here's
just a small list of issues that have gone wrong (among other
things):
1. The Number data type is flaky at best. When doing a
trace() on a variable of type Number, the value will change from
signed to unsigned depending on what was done with the variable
even if the actual contents haven't changed. For example I tried
doing a bitwise OR on a Number that had 0xFFFFFFFF in it, and the
interpretation switched from unsigned to signed.
2. It seems that when I do an add 0 to a _y member of one of
my MovieClips the contents of my movie EXPAND AND SKEW to extreme
extents. I don't even know how this is possible, because nowhere in
my application do I modify _width/_height, or any scale property
values of ANY MovieClip objects (only read them).
3. When testing my app on a device (LG VX8000), Flash Lite
began IGNORING certain core language operations (adding / creating
an empty movie clip / etc..) RANDOMLY if I start mashing keys fast
enough (happens sometimes even if I don't mash keys).... operations
which work 100% of the time in the Flash 8 device emulator both
with a low and high FPS rate.
4. When retrieving _y and _height properties of a MovieClip,
in certain places these properties were INTERCHANGED WITH EACH
OTHER if I didn't add trace() calls to print their values before
hand. Taking out the trace() calls caused the values to continue
being swapped.
These are pretty serious issues that are making my app
unstable all around. My application is entirely based on the basics
of ActionScript 2.0. I can assure people reading this that the
problems are not because of bugs within my application. Has anyone
come across any of these problems before? Can anyone at Adobe
provide information or workarounds/support.
It's a shame to see such huge bugs in the Flash Lite
VM.

Hello,
I'm the PM for Flash Lite, and thank you for your interest in
our products.
Let me clarify the purpose of the Windows Mobile 5 release of
Flash Lite. As you are aware, we license Flash Lite to our OEM
customers so that they may integrate Flash Lite into their mobile
phones. Flash 7 SDK is not targeted at regular mobile phones - just
the pocketPC.
There are differences between Flash Lite and Flash Player 7
in that FP7 supports video and Flash Lite 2.1 does not. this is the
most fundamental difference between the two.
If you are building content that you expect will run not only
on PocketPC, but other mobile phones as well, then FL2.1 for WM5 is
a good starting place to test and try out your content because when
OEMs ship phones with Flash Lite 2.1 already preinstalled, your
content is "good to go".
Flash Lite 2.1 authoring is supported as an "add on" to the
Flash 8 authoring tool. Please check out our Flash 8 tool section
on Adobe.com here
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/devices/
- select the Flash Lite 2.1 for Flash Professional 8.
You will need to use Flash 8 authoring with update for Flash
Lite 2.1 to create/author your content.
CDK = Content Development Kit - contains tips, samples etc.
Flash Player 7 SDK - this is a kit not for developers, but
for companies that may want to embed Flash Player 7 into their
devices such as set top boxes or game consoles. We give these
customers source code of the Flash 7 player.
The Flash Player 7 for PocketPC will play back Flash 7 and
prior versions of Flash content.
I would encourage you to read up on more of our online
resources and as you get more familiar with Flash, you will
definitely see that it is a very compelling application development
platform and join the thousands of other flash developers.
best regards,
Vinay

• Flash Lite Mobile Deployment

Hi
New to authoring in Flash CS3 Pro and Flash Lite, I would
appreciate information about deploying a Flash Lite 2x SWF from my
web site to an end user's cell phone. This would assume that the
cell phone would have a Flash Lite 2.1 player installed, therefore
able to view Flash.
I've heard of WAP but am not knowledgeable about its use,
other than to know that some of the free WAP server side programs
like Wap2Go require the ability to use PHP on the web site. My site
uses a Windows server (IIS, version 5) and the ISP does not allow
PHP, instead requiring scripting in ASP. I'm not familiar with ASP,
so, the best arrangement for deploying from my site would be to not
need WAP.
Can most Flash Lite enabled cell phones simply download a SWF
file from a site without need for WAP? Or will deplying Flash to
cell phones depend on getting WAP to work on my site. (I think that
Brew will be too costly an option for me since expenses begin at
$400 and these files are planned as give-away's.)
Any ideas, information will be appreciated.
Kind Regards,

Has this been changed in any Version?
I think flash lite 1.0 and 1.1 support this feature. you can
check it with adobe cs3 device central.
When you select flash lite 1.0 and 1.1 and wallpaper option.
you will get the list of handset .
In other case like flash lite 2.0 2.1 and 3.0 when you select
wallpaper all device list will be disable.

• Flash lite - database

Hi
I am new to Flash lite and i am currently working on an app
for Nokia N95 for a school project. Can anyone tell my how i can
get the phone to connect to a database and then pullout data and
show them on the phone?
Morten

Hi Morten,
First you will need to be proficient (but not expert) in 3
technologies, databases (eg MySQL), server scripting (eg PHP) and
Flash Lite.
Then in MySQL, you set up the database to store the data.
Write a PHP script to read the data in the database, then parse and
'print' that data into name>value (eg
&variable1=data1&variable2=data2) pairs which Flash Lite
can then read as variables and values. Then you need to use
loadVars() in Flash Lite to read the name>value pairs from the
PHP script.
Thats it in its basics, there are more detailed examples in
the
Adobe Mobile and
Devices Developer Center.
