Social sharing and device orientation

Is it possible to let the social sharing feature of Sprint 20 share not only the folio but also remember the orientation of the device?
Currently the landscape view is presented first. Even users that share the portrait view end up sharing the landscape view first. As the content can be completely different between landscape and portrait, or landscape can be a "rotate" icon. This is just confusing (at least with our test panel).
It might be that I have missed a setting but I simply can't find a way to either lock sharing into "show portrait first" or even better - to show what the reader shared (by passing on the device orientation).

We would love this improvement!
All our folios ar designed for portrait mode, but they contain a landscape version with image and caption only. The result is a shared folio that makes no real sense for the people who gets the invitation to read the webviewer-rendition of the folio:

It will only appear in devices if you mount the drive. This should happen automatically when Time Machine starts.. but you can manually mount the share by just clicking it.

  • Social Sharing and shares per year

I'm curious when folios are shared via social sharing, do the shared views (via the web viewer) count against the shares per year that are purchased? Or do the shares per year only count the app or issue downloads viewed on tablets?

The details are still being worked out. My understanding is that desktop views of shared articles currently are not counted as downloads, but they will be in the future. I believe that when desktop views of shared articles reaches the same number as the articles in a folio, it counts as one folio download. In other words, if a folio has 20 articles, 20 views of those articles on the desktop by any number of users equals one download. We'll provide more information when it's available.

  • Family Sharing and Device is already associated with an Apple ID

I apparently have no idea how Family Sharing works.
I have had an Apple ID for as long as they have existed. As my daughters grew up and got iPods and iPhones, they always use this ID for iTunes. Now with Family Share we thought they could each have their own Apple IDs and keep the music we already purchased, purchase music in the future and I would pay for it.
So the very first time my daughter tries to purchase a song she does so with a gift card. She redeemed the card under her account and purchased $15 worth of music. However, it won't let her download the music she purchased. An alert pops up and says:
"This Device is Already Associated with an Apple ID: If you download past purchases with your Apple ID, you cannot auto-download or download past-purchases with a different Apple ID for 90 days.  CANCEL or TRANSFER"
All she is trying to do is download the songs she purchased with her gift card and she is getting this notice. The songs did not download when she purchased them, I don't know why.

Not 100% on this but it sounds similar to what i had.  My wife and i shared an apple id for the same reason.  When we went to family sharing we had to create a new id for her.
Your future is with family sharing for sure, it is great once established and perfect for you...so i would go ahead and click the transfer.  all your old purchases (which i assume is under your id) will be available under your heading and can be re-downloaded.
the 90 day warning applies to the old apple id (i.e. yours) with that device only. it will now be associated with your daughters.
you may also want to go to https://supportprofile.apple.com/ and change any registered products associated with your id

  • Social sharing and iTunes Store

    Hi!
When someone share with you a link with an email and you open it in Safari Mobile, you get this:
If the user have the appropried app installed on the ipad it will open the folio, but I would like to know if it's possible to transfert the user who haven't install the app directly to the iTunes Store with the url of the app, such as https:// or imts://
    Thanks a lot
    Yves

Yes, the Web Content Viewer is activeted, but I'm not building the app with this user.
    1. Is this redirection URL in case of error?
    2. The App is in Status "Waiting for Review", do I have to submit it after the change?

  • Creating a custom app to proof social sharing

I have created a couple different custom apps to try to proof social sharing and I have created a folio with metered and free articles and published it private and free, and I have read everything (I think). I cannot get the navigation bar to show the "heads up display" for social sharing. Why?

Folios published as private won't appear in your custom viewer app. You need to publish the folios as public, and you need to enable social sharing in both DPS App Builder and in the application account (using the Account Admin tool).

  • Social Sharing Publication url

We have submitted a multi-folio app for approval couple of days back.
The magazine issues we are planning to publish are free to download. During the process of app creation through 'DPS App builder', we have setup up social sharing through email, twitter and copy link.
Now, in the DPS App builder wizard, it asked for 'publication url' in which we have mentioned the website address for the magazine.
My question is, when people share the article how is our website address relevant ? should we have the folio hosted on our website in order to have this enabled ? or will it be shared directly through the DPS server ?
When we tried the sharing feature on dev app on the ipad, it just took us directly to our website and not the article which is hosted in DPS ?
Did we do something wrong ? or will it just work when the app is in production ?

All articles are protected by default, therefore social sharing to work, your articles has to be un-protected. You control those from the Folio producer dashbaord.
Below is a link on a complete tutorial and giude on understanding social sharing and how to set up. Please go through and let us know if you have questions

  • Single Folio Apps:  No Bookmarks and Social Sharing

I was just reading on DPS Help that Single Folio Apps don't support Bookmarks or Social Sharing.  Does that mean that if I have Bookmarks linking to pages within my folio, they won't work?  I know it looks like my question is answered in first statement, but I'm really hoping I'm not understanding something.
I have Hyperlinks in my TOC linking to bookmarks in the folio.
I don't know what Social Sharing exaclty is, so I don't think it'll affect me.
    Thanks

The term "bookmarks" means two different things in InDesign/DPS. There is the bookmarks feature in InDesign that links to other parts of the document when you view a PDF document, and there is the bookmarks feature in DPS in which you can add your favorite articles to the list of favorites. The PDF bookmarks aren't supported in DPS. The DPS bookmarks ("favorites") feature is supported. Here's a description.
BookmarksIf you enable bookmarks in Viewer Builder, customers can mark an article as a bookmark and then choose that bookmark from a drop-down menu in the nav bar to jump to the bookmarked article. Bookmarks work across multiple folios within the same viewer app.
The Social Sharing feature is the ability to use social media to share articles through facebook, twitter, or email so that they can be read on a computer or a device. You can read about it here: http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-publishing-suite/help/using-social-sharing.html
When you say that you have hyperlinks in your TOC linking to bookmarks in the folio, what kind of bookmark are you referring to?

  • Home Sharing and Airplay: fall 2011 major trouble in iTunes to APTV, IOS devices - detailed run-through.

Dear all, and dear Apple - as you know flagged trouble regarding Home Sharing to devices and to APTV has grown exponentially this fall and it is high time Apple calmly regained control over the situation. Get a grip, this is a fundamental "it just works" reputational issue.
Having read lots of community posts I am struck by how many crosschecks I have done and still cannot get Home Sharing to ´just work´ anymore.
    Symptoms of my troubles include:
    (1) In iTunes the Home Sharing house icon is nowhere to be found on the left hand side even though I have turned it on several times.
    (2) Airplay icon was visible in the lower right corner of iTunes for about two minutes last night but then vanishes.
    (3) My iPhone4S cannot find my shared library (under "More" or anywhere else).
    (4) And APTV will occationally load my Mac library to play a purchased tv episode but is highly unstable. 1 in 4 attempts succesful.
Ah, you say, "this all sounds like your home network is either faulty or the signal is not strong enough", or "you have not set up Home Sharing right".
    OK, let´s see...
The Airport Extreme station is right next to APTV, and is itself connected via ethernet to my router - and besindes my Mac can still find a strong signal via wifi. I access internet on my wifi-only iPad2 easily throughout the house, nice and strong signal. The APTV menu tells me the signal strength is excellent, and, most importantly - it worked a couple of weeks ago with no change in settings. I played my iTunes Library on my iPhone via Home Sharing, and I watched APTV TV episodes streamed from my Mac upstairs.
So far I have triple-checked the following settings:
Home Sharing on my Mac turned on under Advanced? yes. (House icon appears - until I press the "Done" button, then it vanishes).
Even though the House icon is nowhere to be found, is Home Sharing still "On" under iTunes Advanced setting? yes.
Under Preferences, Sharing, all ticks are carefully turned on? yes.
APTV Home Sharing: the same ID details, correctly entered?  yes. And for a little while, or on occation we have access to my library on APTV (but not the other mobile devices). Then it vanishes again (Computer menu on APTV telling me to turn on Home Sharing with ID etc.)
Mobile devices, under Settings/Music, are the Home Sharing details the same as those on your Mac/iTunes? yes.
All software on APTV, iTunes, OIS and Lion up to date? yes, as of 18/12 2011. For iTunes I have 10.5.2 (11)
I also reset Factory Settings on my APTV, which enabled us to watch a TV episode last night, but this morning it is gone again.
Within limits of how many devices I can share my library or iTunes with ? yes, 2 computers are authorised on my ID, and 3 devices are authorised on iCloud (iPad2, iPhone 4S and this Mac).
Have you tried the degrading, not-up-to-Apple-standard way of unplugging APTV/Airport Extreme/Mac power, and restarting your iPad/iPhone4S? Yes.
Does Airplay work from devices to e.g. APTV? yes it does.
Can I access the internet or rent a movie on APTV? yes.
Is this a strength issue with my Mac? Is my Mac fast/strong enough? Yes; it is a 3.06Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, running 8GB/1067 MHz/DDR3. 100GB of available harddrive space.
Dear community - what have I forgotten to do, please? Any ideas?
And Apple: please help your repeat customers with these issues - clearly there are some room for improvement here!?
Regards and best wishes for the Season.

I seem to have a similar problem.  I have a Macbook and a PC, both running the current version of iTunes.  On the APTV (also running the current software version), only my Macbook library shows up under "computers".  Home Sharing is turned on for both and my Macbook library shows up under "Shared" on the PC, but the PC iTunes library doesn't show up on the Macbook or the APTV.
My question then is: How is it that my Macbook iTunes library can show up on the PC and on the APTV, but the PC iTunes library doesn't show up on either?  If the PC can see the shared libraries, doesn't that mean it's on the same network?  Along those same lines, "Shared" libraries do NOT show up on the Macbook.  Again I ask, how is it that I can see the Macbook library on the PC, but the Macbook doesn't show any Shared libraries?
All of this worked just fine before the upgrade to iOS 5 by the way.  I had no issues seeing any library on any devices and the APTV found both computers.
Please help.  This is really annoying!

  • I have a new computer and I want to make it my home device for I tunes. I have home sharing, and all of the music and files are on the new computer. Now what do I do to make the new computer the home computer for Itunes?

I have a new computer and I want to make it my home device for I tunes. I have home sharing, and all of the music and files are on the new computer. Now what do I do to make the new computer the home computer for Itunes?

The computer (windows platform) where I initially began using Itunes has four other computers/devices that are shared with it. All four of the other computers show up in my account, and can be managed. Or I can remove them. But on the new computer that I want to be my base computer (home if you will). The computer I want it to replace, when ITunes is open, has a tool bar, with various functions. All of the other devices are linked to that computer in ITunes, under Home SHaring. The new computer, shows the downloads via Home Sharing, but it does not show/have any tool bar.
I want to activate the new computer to be the computer via ITunes where all of the devices are linked to it as the base for ITunes. And, I don't know how to make that happen.
    I hope that makes sense.

  • Subscription Tile Error and Social Sharing Questions

    Hello,
I recently had my free subscription DPS app rejected by Apple with the following message:
"When the user taps "subscribe" an activity indicator is displayed for a moment and then no further action occurs. The subscription fails."
When I go back through my work, it looks as though the problem may be linked with leaving "Optional Library Subscription Tile URL" field blank in the App Builder. Is this correct? Do I need to create a webpage specifically to complete the subsciption process? I haven't been able to find any specifics regarding this in the Adobe Publishing Companion Guide.
Also, regarding social sharing, is there any more information you can provide regarding setting up a URL scheme to launch the viewer app? Does this need to be an actual functioning webpage?
    Thanks!
    Darin

No, subscription failure is not because of the Optional URL scheme. Subscription failure and reason for Apple's rejection can be either or both of the following reason
You have not copy pasted your shared secret key into the application account of your app using the Admin dashbaord panel
Your free subscription product from the app(viewer builder) does not match the Free subscription in-app purchase on iTunes connect.
Regarding the optional URL scheme here's a good blog post from Bob

  • Creating bookmarks and social sharing

    Hello everyone,
I'm trying to find out which version of DPS you need to enable bookmarks and social sharing? We currently have single edition and I think I read somewhere that you can only enable those features within a multi-folio, but want to double check that as I can't find the source I read that from. Thank you.

That's correct. Professional and Enterprise publishers can enable bookmarks and social sharing in multi-folio apps.

  • My brain hurts: Mega sharing multiple accounts and devices

What’s the best way to organize all this? I would like to avoid repurchasing the exact same DRM’ed content in too many itunes accounts.
I have a big family full of 6 people/laptops, 3 TV/PCs, multiple ipods, iphones, etc. per person; and a growing number of separate itunes accounts. All the computers are running Windows 7 and are on the same network so can all be shared. I don’t have a media server yet, but the PC attached to my “Main” TV serves this purpose at the moment and includes my “Main” itunes account. I’m beginning to consolidate all the media from the various PC/itunes accounts into this Main library.
*Answers to these questions might help me get started (and please also answer any questions I should have asked!)…*
    1. How many different computers can be authorized per itunes account? I think this is 5.
    2. Conversely, how many itunes accounts can be authorized per computer? (i.e. how many different itunes accounts/libraries can be shared and sucked into the Main itunes account connected to my Main PC/TV)? Also 5? Unlimited?
    3. I think an ipod or iphone can only be synced to one library at a time (assuming no hacking). A library can hold media from several accounts (as in question 2). But how many different accounts/libraries, once sucked into the Main library, can then be synced to an ipod, iphone, etc.? Is the answer the same as question #2? I assume there is only a limit on DRM content (ie there is no from-this-library “tag” for non-DRM content).
    4. I know I can have the same itunes account (ie apple id/login) on multiple computers. Each would still have its own “library,” however. Except for movie rentals, which are restricted to the computer, is all other DRM content tagged to the itunes account (apple id)? Not the computer or library? Does the “library” even matter in all these discussions? Or only the “computer” and the “account?”
*For sake of discussion, this is what I mean by (please correct)…*
    A. Account = an itunes account, which is set up with a unique apple id.
    B. Library = the itunes application on a computer has one library. Let’s assume “copy files” and “keep organized” are checked.
    C. Hard Drive = where the content physically resides (a library can include pointers to files on multiple hard drives (what about on networked computers?))
    D. Computer = DRM content can be played on up to 5 “authorized” computers. Is it the computer that is authorized or the library on that computer?
    Ok, enough already. Thanks.

    Hello!
    1. Yes, the answer is 5. As stated here in the first few paragraphs
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1420
    2. I don't know. Why don't you tell us, since you have 6 accounts!
    3. ipods can hold content of up to 5 itunes store accounts. As buried in this article
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1420
They can only auto sync to one itunes library, though.
    4. DRM is tied to the itunes store account. You can check: highlight a purchased song, right-click > get info. The Summary tab shows the purchase info and itunes account.
Your definition of B) library is a little off. Each windows user Id on the same PC can have a different library database. If you have 6 windows users on one PC, and they each start itunes for the first time using all the defaults, there will be 6 itunes library databases. They can all be pointing to the same content.

  • Facebook social sharing - login failed error

I have setup my app for social sharing following the http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-publishing-suite/kb/setting-dps-app-social-networking.html instructions
However, when I test my development app, whilst it allows me to select Facebook from the social sharing drop-down, and gives the option to allow Facebook to access my basic profile info and list of friends, once I have done this, I then get the following error message:
"Login Failed. Please log in to Facebook and authorize "app name" through the iOS device settings or through the Facebook iOS application".
I have also found I get the same error when I try to share from other downloaded 3rd party newsstand publications - though not all of them?  So am not sure whether this is something to do with:
    1. how I've configured  social sharing in my app (and if so, then  other publications have also incorrectly configured theirs)
    2. the settings on my own iPad - although these all seem to be in order, my app name doesnt appear in my Facebook settings to enable me to authorise login
On previously speaking with Adobe Support - I understand that I only need to register an app with Facebook to get an App ID, rather than fully create a Facebook app and get this approved (A process which I understand takes months?)
On re-reading the instructions, I have not yet completed the additional suggested Facebook SDK configuration "Implement Single Sign-On (SSO)" via XCode. Just wondering before I embark on this if this is actually the issue?
Would be very grateful for any advice/clarification on the above
    Many thanks

I tried a few things, but I'm not entirely sure exactly which of them resolved it:
    1.   I began by starting  the "Implement Single Sign-On" instructions by following the links at the bottom of the Adobe instructions page under "Additional Facebook configuration information"
         http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-publishing-suite/kb/setting-dps-app-social-networking.html
         https://developers.facebook.com/docs/tutorials/ios-sdk-tutorial/#implementsso
         https://developers.facebook.com/docs/getting-started/facebook-sdk-for-ios/
I completed steps 1 - 5 on the last link - but stopped at the step 6 - start coding - as this got a bit beyond me (I'm not a programmer!)
    2.  I then looked back at the settings in the Facebook app, and under permissions, changed the Default Activity Privacy to Public, and the Auth Token Parameter to URI Fragment (#acces_token=...)
I would perhaps try adjusting your FB settings first and see if this solves it before trying the Xcode route.
(I fed my findings back to Adobe Support to see if they could shed any light on this, but heard nothing back).
Please let me know how you get on and if this works for you
    Kind regards
    Sharon

  • Android Social Sharing

I was wondering if anybody has used any solutions to enable social sharing on Android Devices?
I know this isn't a supported feature with the native android viewers at the moment, so is there a way to link to HTML to open up this possibility?
This is a make or break decision for whether I decide to use DPS or look to native development.
    Thanks to everyone in advance!

yes i built a solution to share in android ( facebook, twiiter and mail) i will set up an admin panel for people who wants to use it.
take a look how it works  in android ( Vitnik - Android Apps on Google Play )
