Social Sharing Publication url

We have submitted a multi-folio app for approval couple of days back.
The magazine issues we are planning to publish are free to download. During the process of app creation through 'DPS App builder', we have setup up social sharing through email, twitter and copy link.
Now, in the DPS App builder wizard, it asked for 'publication url' in which we have mentioned the website address for the magazine.
My question is, when people share the article how is our website address relevant ? should we have the folio hosted on our website in order to have this enabled ? or will it be shared directly through the DPS server ?
When we tried the sharing feature on dev app on the ipad, it just took us directly to our website and not the article which is hosted in DPS ?
Did we do something wrong ? or will it just work when the app is in production ?

All articles are protected by default, therefore social sharing to work, your articles has to be un-protected. You control those from the Folio producer dashbaord.
Below is a link on a complete tutorial and giude on understanding social sharing and how to set up. Please go through and let us know if you have questions

  • Social Sharing only links to Publication URL not Web Viewer URL

I initially created a multi-folio app with the DPS App Builder (Social Sharing enabled per the instructions), but forgot to enable the Web Viewer on my account.
This, per the documentation under Enable Web Viewer in this article: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/digitalpubsuite/using/WS9293e1fb3b977c5c-6c5b4101331de1fd6a-80 00.html, causes all SHARED links to be the Publication URL. Oops!
I have since enabled the Web Viewer, republished my Folio AND re-generated my app, and the Social Sharing button in the App will only display the Publication URL, and not the Web Viewer URLs.
Do I just need to be patient?  It's been a few hours.
Also: is there any way to get to the Web Viewer URLs outside of sharing through the app?

See this thread about a Sept 27th outage which may have affected you.

  • Integrated social sharing via custom URLs rather than folio renditions

We publish a free magazine on the iPad, and we have the same content available for free on our website. We would like to send all sharing traffic from the iPad to our website content, rather than to the iPad app content via folio renditions.
Currently, we do this by coding buttons on each iPad page that, when tapped, take people to the corresponding HTML content via Twitter and Facebook sharer URLs. Naturally, we would prefer if this could be done through the "Sharing Icon" in the viewer.
Is there a way to configure the viewer to send people to our custom URLs for Facebook, Twitter & Email?
    Thank you!

No. The sharing icon in the viewer is dedicated to enabling the social sharing workflows provided by DPS.

  • Publication URL?

How do you get a publication URL for enabling email sharing in App builder?

It's difficult to understand exactly what you're asking and how far along you've gotten with turning on the Social Sharing feature in your app. Here are the main steps:
    * In the Account Admin tool, configure the Application account to turn on the "Enable Web Viewer" option. Also, specify the iTunes URL and the Redirect URL settings. If someone taps a link on the iPad and your app isn't installed, the iTunes URL lets them download the app. If sharing link is no longer valid for whatever reason, the Redirect URL points them to a different page, such as the iTunes URL or a web page. You can also specify paywall options.
    * In the Folio Producer Editor, turn off "Protected" for all the articles you want to share. When a user shares an unprotected article, the article link is included in the email, tweet, or Facebook page. When a user shares a protected article, the Publication URL link is used.
    * When you use the DPS App Builder to create the app, use the Social Sharing section to enable social sharing and include a Publication URL. As I mentioned, the Publication URL is used for the link when a protected article is shared. (If you want to see the difference, open one of the folios in DPS Tips, and choose Copy Link from nearly any article and paste it. Then choose Copy Link from the Credits page and paste it. The Credits page in each folio is protected, so it links to the Publication URL.)

  • Advice on Social Sharing

I am somewhat confused about Social Sharing available in v20 Tools. Can anyone explain? Has anyone used this feature yet? I have updated Bob Bringhurst’s excellent DPS Tips apps but can’t find a ref to Social Sharing
This is extracted from one of the Help pages....
If you create a custom multi-issue viewer app, you can enable social sharing. Your customers can choose an option in your viewer to share the article through Facebook, Twitter, email, or copy and paste. This message includes either a link to the publication URL or to the article, depending on whether you protected the article. Anyone who clicks the article link can view the article contents in a desktop web browser or on the iPad. This article refers to the v20 viewer version.
If you have not already done so, create a web page for your publication. The URL for this page is called the "Publication URL."
Do I add the FaceBook Share icon to my article?
Does the article appear on a web page (Publication URL) exactly as it does on an iPad?
    Copy and Paste what?

I haven't had the time to update DPS Tips with new v20 features. But it does have the social sharing option available. If you have an iPad 1 or 2, browse to an article and tap the icon in the upper right corner. Then choose Email and send the link to yourself. When you click the link on your desktop computer, you'll see the article in your desktop browser. (I currently have a paywall threshold in place for demo purposes that limits article views.) If you use an iPad 3, you won't be able to view the hi-res content in the desktop browser -- not in v20.
You don't need to add the Facebook icon unless you want to set up a different kind of sharing manually.
The article appears on the desktop browser more or less like it appears on the iPad, but there are still a lot of issues and limitations with certain overlays. Don't confuse the article display with the publication URL. The publication URL is a generic web page -- it could even be the iTunes page -- where the link jumps to if the article is protected. If the article is unprotected, the link goes to the article's web view.
Copy and paste lets you copy the URL of the uploaded article. You can then paste this URL in a website or email message.

  • Subscription Tile Error and Social Sharing Questions

    Hello,
I recently had my free subscription DPS app rejected by Apple with the following message:
"When the user taps "subscribe" an activity indicator is displayed for a moment and then no further action occurs. The subscription fails."
When I go back through my work, it looks as though the problem may be linked with leaving "Optional Library Subscription Tile URL" field blank in the App Builder. Is this correct? Do I need to create a webpage specifically to complete the subsciption process? I haven't been able to find any specifics regarding this in the Adobe Publishing Companion Guide.
Also, regarding social sharing, is there any more information you can provide regarding setting up a URL scheme to launch the viewer app? Does this need to be an actual functioning webpage?
    Thanks!
    Darin

No, subscription failure is not because of the Optional URL scheme. Subscription failure and reason for Apple's rejection can be either or both of the following reason
You have not copy pasted your shared secret key into the application account of your app using the Admin dashbaord panel
Your free subscription product from the app(viewer builder) does not match the Free subscription in-app purchase on iTunes connect.
Regarding the optional URL scheme here's a good blog post from Bob

  • Social Sharing

I'm troubleshooting a problem with my social sharing function. Looks like something is wrong with my URL. Anyone have any ideas on where to fix this? See the screen shot below. This is where I'd like people to veiw my unprotected articles in the webviewer.

The error message is related to Facebook developer account.
It seems your Facebook developer account is not verified.
There are two ways to verify your account. First, you can verify your cell phone, which allows us to verify that a real person is in control of the account. The second way to verify your account is to add a credit card to your account.
Unfortunately, if you cannot verify with a cell phone or add a credit card, you may be unable to verify  your account. All developers must be verified before they can create a new app.
Just verify your account , if not please contact Facebook developer support.

  • Facebook social sharing - login failed error

I have setup my app for social sharing following the http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-publishing-suite/kb/setting-dps-app-social-networking.html instructions
However, when I test my development app, whilst it allows me to select Facebook from the social sharing drop-down, and gives the option to allow Facebook to access my basic profile info and list of friends, once I have done this, I then get the following error message:
"Login Failed. Please log in to Facebook and authorize "app name" through the iOS device settings or through the Facebook iOS application".
I have also found I get the same error when I try to share from other downloaded 3rd party newsstand publications - though not all of them?  So am not sure whether this is something to do with:
    1. how I've configured  social sharing in my app (and if so, then  other publications have also incorrectly configured theirs)
    2. the settings on my own iPad - although these all seem to be in order, my app name doesnt appear in my Facebook settings to enable me to authorise login
On previously speaking with Adobe Support - I understand that I only need to register an app with Facebook to get an App ID, rather than fully create a Facebook app and get this approved (A process which I understand takes months?)
On re-reading the instructions, I have not yet completed the additional suggested Facebook SDK configuration "Implement Single Sign-On (SSO)" via XCode. Just wondering before I embark on this if this is actually the issue?
Would be very grateful for any advice/clarification on the above
    Many thanks

I tried a few things, but I'm not entirely sure exactly which of them resolved it:
    1.   I began by starting  the "Implement Single Sign-On" instructions by following the links at the bottom of the Adobe instructions page under "Additional Facebook configuration information"
         http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-publishing-suite/kb/setting-dps-app-social-networking.html
         https://developers.facebook.com/docs/tutorials/ios-sdk-tutorial/#implementsso
         https://developers.facebook.com/docs/getting-started/facebook-sdk-for-ios/
I completed steps 1 - 5 on the last link - but stopped at the step 6 - start coding - as this got a bit beyond me (I'm not a programmer!)
    2.  I then looked back at the settings in the Facebook app, and under permissions, changed the Default Activity Privacy to Public, and the Auth Token Parameter to URI Fragment (#acces_token=...)
I would perhaps try adjusting your FB settings first and see if this solves it before trying the Xcode route.
(I fed my findings back to Adobe Support to see if they could shed any light on this, but heard nothing back).
Please let me know how you get on and if this works for you
    Kind regards
    Sharon

  • Social Sharing Links not working in v26

We recently rebuilt our application from iPad only in v25, to Universal with v26 to enable the web-viewer. In our v25 version, our social sharing was setup and worked perfectly. For some reason though, now that we have the v26 version, all of our sharing links go to our redirect URL only.
I've seen some issues on the forum related to renditions and naming. Has anyone experienced this? I've double checked and social sharing is enabled in the App Builder and in the Account Admin area. We are using WoodWing to publish so everything is and was unprotected by default. Below is one of the URLs that it is providing:
    http://millennialeye.com?wv=s%2FMillennial%2520Eye%2F13e831a3f9a54b87a0d0669b4a9697d5%2Fco m.brynmawr.millenialeye.ipad%2F114.html

Bob, I believe the problem is if I have added a Hosting URL for the Web-Viewer it automatically sets the Social Sharing links to this URL.
My question then is, does adding or removing a Hosing URL from the Configure User area require an app rebuild, or will the change be reflected in the live app once the changes hit the server?
    Thank you,
    Nik

  • Sending individual pages via social sharing

Our Adobe DPS app has social sharing enabled. Can individual folio pages be shared on only entire articles?

I'm not aware of a way to specify a page number behind the scenes. You could add the page number suffix to URL manually when you use Copy Link to paste the share link to a web page or when you send email. But I don't think it's possible to do for social media links like Facebook and Twitter. Here's an example of a shared link that starts at the third page of the article:

  • Problem Social Sharing

    Good Afternoon,
I'm trying to turn on my Social Sharing folios, did all the instructions correctly, but he always shows the URL and not the article link. When he shows Html5 folio is the link, but when you open a blank page appears.
Does anyone know what is the problem?
    Thanks

There was a service problem with PDF folio conversion by Social Sharing between 1 am Sept 27th and Noon Sept 27th.
Was your folio submitted during this time window?
We are still accessing the impact, however the problem has been resolved.
If you simply "Update" the folio in Folio Producer, your issue should be reprocessed.

  • Can I test social sharing w/o generating an IPA file?

Is there a way that I can test social sharing behaviors without generating certificates for an IPA file? I would like to see how my articles are captured and how they look on social media before submitting the app to the apple store. I am hoping there is an easier way than creating an IPA file.
    Thanks!

    Found it.
I am learning why the refernce for JavaScript is 745 some odd pages.
There are system functions for Number of total Fields (numFields)
Name of any particular field    (getNthfieldName)
You can then use a loop to find the field that are marked as REQUIRED and that are EMPTY.
Works GREAT inside my "Build Summary" button.

  • Social Sharing and shares per year

I'm curious when folios are shared via social sharing, do the shared views (via the web viewer) count against the shares per year that are purchased? Or do the shares per year only count the app or issue downloads viewed on tablets?

The details are still being worked out. My understanding is that desktop views of shared articles currently are not counted as downloads, but they will be in the future. I believe that when desktop views of shared articles reaches the same number as the articles in a folio, it counts as one folio download. In other words, if a folio has 20 articles, 20 views of those articles on the desktop by any number of users equals one download. We'll provide more information when it's available.

  • Shared Services URL throws 404 Error

    Hi,
I've newly installed and configured EPM on a test server. I seem to be able to start the Hyperion Foundation Services (port 28080 is listening), but when accessing the Shared Services URL, I get a 404 error.
One note: I installed the product at G:\Oracle\Middleware\..., but when starting the Foundation Services, a "product" folder is created under G:\ root folder. It contains the same folder structure as G:\Oracle\Middleware\EPMSystem11R1\products\ but there is no content in the folders. I did not make any conscious update to any config file, so I have no clue why Foundation Services is behaving this way. The diagnostic log seems to point to this as the cause of deployment failure, because it's looking for ear files which don't exist in G:\products.
I've restarted the machine, re-ran the configurator many times, re-installed the EPM product suite, double checked environment variables and registry keys, yet this issue still persists. Can someone give me some help on this? Many thanks!!!
The EPM version is 11.1.2.2 and we are using SQL Server 2008R2.
