Socket 754 and 3 Dimms on MSI K8T NEO

Has anybody had any success with installing memory in all the available dimms slots and managing to keep the memory running at full speed? I have currently 2x 512MB of Corsair Valueram installed and I am considering getting another.... Only if I don't have to sacrifice memory speed though.
Any suggestions or advice before I do this would be gratefully recieved.

I've borrowed a stick from another pc at work and just whacked it in.... It does downclock to 166.
But I've just used A64 Tweaker to force it to run at 200mhz and it is!!! 2T timing has to be enabled though or it crashes..... Sandra reports that it is running at 200mhz and my bandwidth is about 2650 MB/s down from 2970... I can put up with that I suppose
It's running 3dmark now so we'll see if it crashes.

Hi I just ordered the following from overclockers.co.uk and wanting some confirmation that the memory will be compatible with this Mother board
    Corsair 1GB DDR Value Select PC3200 Kit (2x512MB) and MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R
    Thanks
    Kevin

    kevtucker,
I'm running the same setup up as you and have not experienced any ram related problems so far. I'm happy with it and it is very stable.
Every ram has different settings. For the corsair 1gb value select (2x512mb) you must make sure you use these settings for the best results:
put them in slots 1 and 3.
    use the settings 2.5-3-3-8
    set the ddr voltage 2.7
I got that information straight from the official corsair forums:

    Good luck.

  • [S754 MSI K8T NEO] Some onboard usb ports are 1.1 instead of 2.0 ?

I own a socket 754 MSI K8T Neo FISR2 mainboard. Due to a lot of USB devices I'm using all ports and it seems like some ports are USB1.1 instead of USB2.0 The manual tells me this mainboard has 8 USB 2.0 ports, but only 2 out of 4 onboard ports at the rear (beneath the PS/2 connectors) seems to be 2.0. At 1 internal connector I do also have connected a frontside USB connector which is 2.0 and at the other connector a memory card reader which also seems to be USB1.1.
Can someone explain me this is a 'feature' of this board or do I have to upgrade a driver or something?
In the bios I have enabled all USB-ports and I'm running Windows XP SP2. With Windows Vista Beta2 I even can't get those 'usb 1.1' ports to work.

It's already solved. I just found this topic: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=73390.0
I had to unplug one of the wires (which is connected to pin 10) of the frontside USB connector form my antec sonata case.

  • [Athlon64] MSI K8T Neo FIS2R BIOS Update when? CnQ no workie!

    The MSI K8T Neo FIS2R (MS-6702) hasn't had a BIOS update since 3-4-2005!
I put a Sempron 64 3000+ in my motherboard, and was very disappointed that it is recognized as an "AMD Unknown Processor".  Sure, it works, but one of the reasons I bought it is in the hopes of getting AMD Cool n Quiet to work.  However, apparently the AMD driver can't recognize the CPU due to the old BIOS on the motherboard.
Every other MSI skt 754 board supports Sempron E6 revision already.  Why not the K8T Neo FIS2R?  Where have all the MSI BIOS programmers gone?  I have been waiting 2-months for a BIOS update to support the E6 Semprons.  I have asked and begged MSI Tech Support.  I am tempted to switch to ASUS or some other company that is actually timely with BIOS updates.  Only reason I haven't yet, is this board is everything I want EXCEPT for Cool n Quiet not working.  It's starting to look like there is no BIOS update in sight, so I am very disappointed.
Anyone here work for MSI can confirm there are no plans for a BIOS update?  Because I don't want to wait around for something that's not going to happen.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply I thought the mods here are MSI staff... I was just kind of hoping there's MSI staff lurking here, seeing what people think of their products or seeing what people complain about.
No, pretty much C 'n Q is the only reason I'm disappointed, but it was something I was really set on getting to work since this is a server that's up 24/7, but isn't utilized but maybe 4hrs out of a given day.  I could reduce frequency and voltage, but unlike C 'n Q, it won't automatically increase speed and voltage based on demand - which is something I want since although it's a server, I also use it as a regular PC as well.
I've even tried the 2.33 beta BIOS with no change, and even found a 5.52 BIOS in their BIOS testing directory.  I guess that BIOS was for a different kind of 6702, although I had pulled out the peripheral modules with AMI's MMTOOL and they looked the same as the existing BIOS, but that BIOS killed my motherboard so it couldn't have been for a regular 6702.  I had to desolder the BIOS chip with a heat gun, reprogram the old BIOS back on it with an EPROM programmer, and solder in a socket.  I guess that shows my dedication to get C 'n Q working!

  • MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R - Suggestions

    Hi,
I have just ordered these parts:
    AMD Athlon 64 3200 (Socket 754) - Retail (CP-060-AM)
    Asus DVD-E616P1 16X DVD-ROM / 48X CD-ROM - Retail (CD-002-AS)
Western Digital Caviar 120GB Special Edition 8MB Cache Serial ATA - OEM (HD-009-WD)
Antec Sonata Piano Black Quiet Case - 380W TruePower Silent PSU (CA-003-AT)
    MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R (Socket 754) Motherboard (MB-010-MS)
    Sapphire Radeon 9800Pro
I am still stuck on RAM, despite searching other topics. Which PC3200 RAM actually works to the speed that it should, I'm not convinced by the MSI list.
Will Kingston HyperX PC3200 work to its full standard? I was initially looking at KingMax PC3500 RAM which is a lot cheaper, however it seems pointless to spend so much on quality parts and then get cheap RAM(although PC3500 should be faster, I assume it shouldn't make any difference if I'm not overclocking). I don't think I can quite afford Mushkin RAM, as I have about £220 for 1GB.
Secondly, with my PSU be able to power the system without overclocking?
    Thanks for any ideas.

I would also suggest a better PSU, I had a Enermax 350W before and it only just coped + a high pitched whining sound
Plus a Pentium 4 and an AMD64 = not equivalent in terms of power consumption. If you already have that PSU, then fair enough try it. But if your still planning to buy it... I would go for a better one. Just my 2 cents

  • [Athlon64] Electromagnetic Interference on my MSI K8T Neo 2 FIR MBO

    I have a system built around a MSI K8T Neo 2 FIR Athlon64 3000+
Recently I've put a poratable TV near the PC (1.5 meters or so) and noticed quite strong interference on VHF TV channels.
First I thought that it came from the case itself, but I discovered that the interference practically dissapeared when I unplugged the PS2 keyboard.
So I thought that it was the keyboard and bought another basic PS2 Logitech one. No difference at all.
Then I bought a USB cheapo keyboard, only to find out that the interference doubled, at least.
I tested the interference with my TV, using the room "antenna", actually a coaxial cable plugged in the antenna socket of the TV with the other emd free, and the central vire just physically clamped with a metallic "crocodile" clamp. A loop on that side and this is the best room antenna money can buy!
I approached the end loop to the keyboard and its cord. I showed an extraordinary amount od unterference. the TV image turned to snow and the sound started hissing.
My guess is that the Keyboard acts like an antenna for the MBO and transmists interference to the outside, probably trought the voltage line.
Or I could have flawed keyboards, but tree... and PS2 AND USB!?
My power supply is not in question. I tried two, high quality ones of different producers - no difference at all.
Anybody had similar interference experience with this or other MSI boards?
Did you succeed to solve it?
I often read that LCD monitors are better for your health because they radiate less, but I tested my old CRT monitor, and it produces much less EM interference than my keyboards!!!
    Any Ideas? Bad MBO?

What does that option "spread spectrum" do?
I have Bios 3.3 (I think), I will check if I have this option at all at reboot. I can't remember seeing it?
The interference is not affecting the monitor, which is LCD, but a small TV set, 1.5 meters away from the PC.
IT is not coming from the case (which has no transparent side) but from the keyboard(s) and keyboard wires (both USB and PS2 keyboards produce inteference).
I tested it precisely with a coaxial cable acting like an antenna with a looop at the end and a simple crocodile clamp fixed on the central wire (this produces a very ensitive antenna witch can precisely pinpoint the source of interference. When I approach the loop of he coaxial cable to the keyboard it produces strong "snow" on the TV image and a hissing sound (The TV is set to a local VHF TV station).
So I guess that the keyboard is acting like an antenna , leading interference from the Mainboard out.
I did a little search on the internet and it s amazing how many people with various computers have interference problems from keyboards.
Information comes mainly from radio amateurs who use computers to control sophisticated radio equippment and suffer interference in their reception.
I bet that many people have it and not being radio amateurs or not having a TV near their PC they are not aware of it. Many of you reading this probably have electomagnetic emissions emanating from your keyboards.
But what worries me in this story is that these electromagnetic radiations are not exactly healthy.
I bought a new LCD monitor precisely because I read in many magazines that LCDs radiate less than CRTs. But since it appears that my keaboard is radiating much more than my old CRT, it kind of defeats the purpose...
These things shouldn't happen because computer components, MBOs included, should comply with FCC standards (class B) and a keyboard should not act as an emitting antenna for  electromagnetic interference from the mainboard. But it seems that many manufacturers are not really complying with EMI/RFI standards.
This seams to be a very weak point for many computer components, from what I saw on the internet after some Googling.
Some guy even tested all the computer equipment in his company and found out that 90% were not FCC standards compliant, even if they claimed they were !!!
Needless to say that I am not happy, and should it appear that MSI is to blame for my problem, they will hear from me.
I will try some other keyboards, some top of the line this time, made in Germany not in Taiwan. If they produce the same interference, then I will be sure that this is MSI's fault and that the interference is not produced in the keyboard itself but just transmitted to it from the mainboard.

  • MSI K8T Neo FIS2R- Corsair Twinx XMS4000

Two weeks ago I have bought one MSI K8T Neo FIS2R with an AMD Athlon64 3200+.So far I used the computer with one DIMM of 256MB DDR PC2100 memory. This morning I have installed in the motherboard a pair of CORSAIR TWINX XMS4000 which comprises of two DIMMs of 512MB DDR 500MHz memory.
The computer did never worked again. As soon as I have turned it on, although the whole system got power the screen was blank and the motherboard did not boot. Moreover, the D-Led system of the motherboard has all its leds red which according to the manual means that the processor is probably damaged.I have never overclocked my system and before install the memory it worked perfect. I have disconnected the whole computer but the problem still exists. Can you advise me what I have to do to fix it? What is the cause of the problem? Is there any way so that I can fix it?

Hi dude i had identical problem, bought i extra stick 512 400 ddr and the system wont start. Make sure your motheoard support the made of ram. In my case Asus did not support corsaire. Also it could be the slots which are damage.

  • MSI K8T Neo 2 opinions ? advise

I just bought a MSI K8T Neo 2-F and am wanting some user feed back on this board I will be using 2x512 corsair XMS XL ram, and a gainward 5900xt vid card
is their anything I sould look out for? any user problems? I know that the nvidia version of the socket 939 is going to be a favorite here but to be honest the MSI K8T Neo 2 -F is just what I need , no firewire, no prommise raid. and since I want to run at stock speeds I am hoping I made a good choice.
oh I forgot I will be using a 3500+ CPU
any words of encouragement? after my abit AV8 experence and Uguru crap I could use some!

Hello and welcome to the forum. The setup you installed should give you a great deal of power. If you come across problems this forum is of great help. One recommendation is that you create a signature like most people have in here with your system specs to reduce the amount of guesswork when some questions are asked.
now might also be a good time to point you towards the anything under the sun part of the forum where we have a group called the Red Rockets who are people who donate their cpu idle cycle time to a distributed computing project from Stanford university that does protein folding computations. We need all the CPU power we can muster.
As always post any time you have a question, most members are friendly have a quick help for one another.

    tnx :(
its a CPU problem not a mobo. don't be disappointed from the board. if the CPU can work with DDR2 the board will have those DIMM slots.
i mean if you got board with DDR2 memory support and also have DDR2 memory sticks, you have to change CPU as well.

Yeah.  I remember when I had that board.  I found the best SATA ports were the Promise ones, but...
What do you think, Tiresmoke?  You had the same board too if I'm not mistaken.

  • [Athlon64] MSI K8T NEO-V : incompatibility with ATI RADEON 9800 PRO

    Hi,
I read all the subjets on this forum about Radeon problems with MSI K8T NEO motherboard.  Most of the peple can't use their graphic card in all situations.
    My PC is :
    -MSI K8T NEO-V
    -AMD-64 3200
    -Power : 400W
    -ATI RADEON 9800 PRO
-1 Go DDRAM (2x512 in single channel)
    -Hercules Digifires 7.1
    I bought a new MSI K8T NEO-V with AMD 64.
The problem is that I can't use the computer in the games with AGP 8X even if I try to enable-disable all the options possibles in BIOS and Windows (fast write ...) : The computer freeze (screen disapear as if there was no video signal), reboot or return to Windows disabling the accelerated mode.
But in AGP 4X, all the game run without problem with all setups of BIOS !!!
I tried all the drivers (the new and the old drivers).  Even if all are updated, it freeze.
There are no BIOS update for my motherboard. I saw that some people had BIOS update for compatibility with some Radeon cards ...
So, I don't know how to repair the problem because AGP 8X is AGP 8X and not 4X, and my Radeon run fine on other computer, and nothing say that Radeon 9800 pro don't run on this motherboard.
Does someone have the solution to make it work ? Does a new BIOS or driver update exist somewhere for Radeon cards ?

What Bas said about 30+ amps on the 12v rail does have merit. Even if you don't use it now there may come a time when you want to upgrade the system and certainly you won't want to buy yet another PSU then. A High end vid card now takes almost as much as the CPU to operate. Now days the 12v rail is the most important. Past systems regulated everything off the 5v railk and 12v was used mostly for powering drive motors. Now though the MB's use the 12v line to regulate all the voltages for the CPU, Chipset and other features as does the Vid cards. 3.3 volt lines are used for memory so we hardly use any 5v nowdays.
You have an older viod card and that does not eat much 12v but if you upgrade the most likely peice will be the vid card. You could go through this whole thing all over again if you are not careful to plan for that now with a new PSU purchase.
If the computer shop gives you a bunch of bull about power needs havbe them stop by the forum and we can help set them straight on this. There is more than enough data from MSI and historical data here that suggests that 16a on the 12v rail is certainly not enough. Hey I am not trying to sell you anything. I am just trying to help you get it right. The computer shop is the one trying to sell you something we just feel they are selling the wrong junk.

  • FAQ for MSI K8T NEO

Is there a FAQ for the MSI K8T NEO motherboard?
About 3 years ago I build a computer using the ABIT KT7Raid Mbd.
Although I had the ABIT manuals I found that wasn't enough to guide
me thru setting up the board, installing the OS, and downloading
all the correct drivers. Fortunately there was a very extensive FAQ
(written by Paul Howland) that had all this information and more.
I just bought a MSI K8T with a Athlon 64-3000 CPU and I am in
the same boat. I have the MSI manual but it doesn't lead me thru
the steps for installing WinXP and making sure I've got all the
latest drivers. Is there such a FAQ, or has it gotten so easy that
a FAQ is no longer required? (Like maybe WinXP already has all
    the drivers required?)
    Thanks
    ~Paul

do you have a SATA or normal IDE heard drive?
if SATA, you need to press F6 at the start of windows xp install to install the SATA drivers, depending on which controller you hooked the hard drive up to (promise or VIA)
    thats about it really...
everything else is on the CD, then you can use live update to get the latest drivers and bios.

  • [Athlon64] TV tuner problems on MSI k8t neo

    Hello,
I used TV@nywhere Master. Since beginning it worked.
After graphic card reclamation (MSI GeForce 6800 LE) I tried another graphic cards (at first Legend 64 [1 MB, PCI], later Riva TNT 2 vanta [16 MB, AGP], GeForce 5600 VIVO [128 MB, AGP]). With this Legend graphic card at first my PC beeps for a while, but Windows XP started (even without graphic drivers). I tried another graphic cards (with correct graphic drivers), but since then there was no video on my TV tuner (channels were recognized, sound was possible to hear, but only black screen). I got new GeForce 6800 LE card, but the problem was the same also with this card.
I reinstalled windows XP several times, but always with the same behavior.
Maybe similar as it is mentioned here:
https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=27537.msg158205#msg158205 (TV@nywhere Master sound but only black picture.)
I tested TV tuner at my friend's PC and it worked, so TV tuner is not broken.
So I bought new TV tuner card (Sapphire theatrix 550), but this card was not even detected under Windows device manager.
When I tried to install ATI drivers, I got BSOD and my PC was restarted.
(there was no problem at my friend's PC [athlon xp 2200, nforce 2 chipset])
Is it problem with PCI slots of my motherboard?
    My system:
    MSI k8t neo (k8t800 chipset)
    Athlon 64-3000+
    512 MB DDR
    MSI GeForce 6800 LE
    Windows XP SP2

    Just to note:
there was also problem with network (not detected).
    Reclamation was necessary.
There was no similar problem with returned motheboard.

sometimes when the computer is turned on it just turns the fans and leds on but doesnt boot up...
most of the time it loads up and i boot to the windows xp cd and i install the drivers for sata and then when it reaches the point of copying the files it will give me a bsod and say that there is a problem with the irql driver and then force me to shut the pc down..
sometimes it makes it past that and will begin to copy files onto the hard drive, like somehow the data is becoming corrupted..however it will start to say that the files cant copy randomly and it will allow me to retry..they will copy the 2nd time usually..i can keep hitting retry and it will usually go by..it gets to 30 something % and then crashes to bsod just giving me some random error..for some reason the files keep screwing up that go on the sata drive....I just replaced the old power supply that wasnt working with an antec true watt 430 watt power supply, so i know it isnt that..
i just cant figure out what the heck is going on..any help would be appreciated.my specs are

fyi look an your cd sticker ity will show power, consumption, but they are way lower than you would think, hard drives, can be only 10 watts, less then some case lights , and fans, cd are  similar.. your video, is the biggy somewhere between 90~150 watts..yikes .next to the cpu..and the mobo can use 50 or so (not sure about new mobos)  not to mention the ram 1024 is @40 watts or so., dont forget about 25watts per pci card, not counting the sound card which can be double....
ergo the need for a big psu..
the combined total ratting on a psu is not the max number that the psu is rated, that is surge value.. so a 500 may only hold 400 sustained , and that will drop as the machine heats up, so in the end your 500 may onlyy pull 366 @50'c...
