""Socket-939, VIA K8T800 Pro: Asus A8V Deluxe First Look:
. . . latest is the Socket 939 VIA K8T800 Pro based A8V Deluxe that miraculously showed up . . .""

heehee yeah it does look nice. But they still going with their last statement of "retail in 1Q05", and i noticed that AMD wouldn't let them benchmark it yet.
The S-754 still looks good, tho i've virtually discussed with peeple that really like their S-940 even with the expensive RAM.  Sooooo ya' know how the mind turns on decisions like this, 'round'n'round

There is no mention, even PR on the MSI site about this board?
Any word on release date?  According to newegg I can buy in-stock 3800+ CPUs right now - but I don't have a MB to use it with?

There is a preview of the MSI dual channel socket 939 K8T800 Pro motherboard here. The K8T Neo2 is also shown in the 2004 Computex online exhibition.

  • Best board for socket 939?

    Hey All,
I'm getting ready to build a semi cheap server for low end processing.  Can anyone trough out a couple of board models for socket 939 to help me start my research?  I'm looking for a socket 939 single cpu board, preferably with some built in sata raid controller.  Nothing fancy, just reliable.
    Thanks in advance...

VIA has a strong argument that their chipsets utilize AMD's HyperTransport more effectively.
Utilizing VIA's unique Hyper8 technology, the VIA K8T800 Pro features a high bandwidth HyperTransport processor-to-chipset link, which ensures all AMD64 processor-based systems achieve their full performance potential, and provides headroom to support forthcoming versions of AMD64 processors.
The asynchronous bus architecture of VIA K8T800 Pro enables the AGP and PCI buses to be locked if the system's front side bus or clock multiplier are adjusted for faster system performance, allowing power users to squeeze the very most out of their AMD64 processor based system.
In combination with the VIA VT8237R South Bridge, featuring the advanced VIA DriveStation™ Controller Suite, the VIA K8T800 Pro enables the most comprehensive range of high-performance integrated storage and cutting edge multimedia technologies available on the AMD64 platform today. In addition to enabling high-speed 150MB/s dual channel connections to Serial ATA Hard Drives while retaining support for up to four Parallel ATA-133 devices, it combines exceptionally fast disk data transfer rates and optimal data integrity with easy installation and manageability through V-RAID, a revolutionary native RAID controller integrated into the South Bridge with support for multiple RAID configurations.
The VT8237R also supports the VIA Vinyl Multichannel Audio Suite, for superlative 6-channel or 8-channel immersion audio support, while the VIA Advanced Connectivity Suite offers a host of high-bandwidth connectivity options, including support for the VIA Velocity™ Gigabit Ethernet companion controller, integrated 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet and up to eight high-speed USB 2.0 ports.
As part of VIA's unique Modular Architecture Platform (V-MAP), the K8T800 Pro features the high-throughput Ultra V-Link bus, which links the chipset's North and South Bridges at speeds of up to 1066MB/s, and minimizes design times and time-to-market for motherboard partners through a flexible, pin-compatible design approach for VIA core-logic solutions. Motherboard partners are able to cover multiple market segments with fewer design resources, and also benefit from a single unified driver base.

SiS makes inroads into AMD chipset market, set to launch PCIe chipsets in November
Michael McManus, DigiTimes.com, Taipei [Wednesday 6 October 2004]
Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) is making inroads into the AMD chipset market and will increase its efforts by releasing a number of PCI Express (PCIe) chipsets for the AMD K8 platform, beginning in November, according to the company.
SiS claims it ranks second in market share in both the Intel and AMD chipset market, and its goal is to become the number-one producer of AMD chipsets. Currently, VIA is the market leader in the AMD segment.
In September, SiS announced that NEC and Hewlett-Packard (HP) would market AMD K8 products featuring the company’s chipsets. Both HP and NEC will bundle the integrated SiS760 with their consumer PCs.
According to the company, its revenues are expected to grow 10% sequentially in September due to increased sales of K8 chipsets to PC OEMs.
In November, SiS will begin volume production of its discrete PCIe-enabled 761 north bridge, which will feature one PCIe x16 lane. The761GS, a version featuring integrated graphics, will follow in the first quarter of next year. The company will also introduce two more integrated parts in the second quarter of next year, the 770 and 756FX, with volume production coming in the third quarter.
The 761GX and 756FX will feature SiS’ Mirage1 graphics, which support DirectX7, while the 770 will use the Mirage3 core, which supports DirectX9.
According to SiS, the 756FX will also support two PCIe express graphics cards. In addition to supporting Nvidia’s SLI (scalable link interface) solution, SiS claims it is developing a part that will support ATI PCIe cards.
SiS will partner its PCIe north bridges with the 965 I/O controller. The 965 features two PCIe x1 lanes, integrated RAID and Gigabit Ethernet, and supports four SATA ports.
SiS’ November launch of its PCIe chipsets will come one month after VIA begins volume production of its VIA K8T890 chipset. Nvidia and ATI are also expected to release PCIe chipsets for the AMD platform in the fourth quarter.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Tag_relatedproducts image jumps on 1st click & then links to correct image on 2nd click

tag_relatedproducts image jumps on 1st click & then links to correct image on 2nd click - strange coding glitch! Should link to correct image on 1st click (& not jump) http://meluka.worldsecuresystems.com/bedroom/Drawers/chest-of-drawers-42 Was functioning correctly

It looks like those related images are being affected by your zoom script that lets you zoom the main product image.  In your page template or page you have this code:
    jQuery(document).ready(function(){
        jQuery('div.image img').wrap('<span style="display:inline-block"></span>').css('display', 'block').parent().zoom({on:'click'});
You likely added this to make your main product images capable of zooming.  I bet this all started acting weird when you put the zoom effect in.  Basically, your jQuery above is saying, "Find any IMG element in my DIV with the class of "image" and do some stuff like wrap a span, update the css and execute the zoom behavior on the image's parent element"
The problem is that your related products are inside your div.image container so that jQuery call is affecting those images too.
    You have two options:
Move your {tag_relatedproducts} tag outside or after the div.image. That should solve it.
OR update your zoom image jQuery statement above from jQuery('div.image img") to jQuery("#zoom img") which is more specifically targeting the #zoom link which should only have the main product image in it
    Good luck!

  • Socket 939 Review/Comparison

After reading this lengthy review, I have realized that we have only begun to tap the potential of the Socket 939 CPU's. With all tests performed on 32-bit application software, the FX and 3800+ processors held their own, and when the 64-bit O.S.'s and programs are released in the coming months...these CPU's should gain leaps and bounds over the competition. Here's the link:
    http://www.beyond3d.com/reviews/amd/939/

Get an FX if you want to, or an opteron 1xx series.  I wouldn't wait for the 939 because the only differences is the unbuffered memory support, and almost anything above 1 gigabyte all but requires registered/buffered memory to run reliably anyway.  The 4-layer pcb will be cheaper but the processor will be more expensive so that doesn't matter.
    So yeah.

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and/or product number of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.
The above requested information can be found on the back or bottom of the computer. Please do not include the serial number. Please enter the model/product information into HP's Online Consumer Support page and/or post it here for our review.
Sorry, but overclocking is not generally supported by HP and there is no "code to unlock." This is not a problem and is done by design. If you wish to overclock a computer, you will be better served by buying a factory unlocked CPU and building your own computer.

  • K8N Neo4 Platinum problem socket 939

    Hi pals...
The problem is that the small fan placed near the memory slots in my MOBO (which I was told is the chipset fan) makes a very loud high pitched noise everytime i turn the PC on. Actually I keep my PC on 24/7, but sometimes when I turn it off and then I turn it on again, after a short while, it starts making this weird noise, which starts increasing louder and louder (as if verything was going to explode) and after three or five minutes, it suddenly stops and all the noises are the usual fan-like ones. The fan has MSI logo on it.
So far the PC has been working fine and apart from that nothing else is wrong. My processor is an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ socket 939. I have 1Gb Memory and the VGA is an MSI NX GeForce 6600 GT 128 Mb
Can that small fan be replaced in case it is the fan actually about to die? or do I have to buy a WHOLE new MOBO. this one is not even one year old, but the warranty only covered it until the 9th month so I cannot take it to the shop where I bought it (besides it's way far from where I live).
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanxs

    Pals...
Don't get angry please and I am definitely sorry for not answering earlier but given the fact that I don't want the card to completely die on me (or the PC for what it's worth) I keep it turned off and when I need to do something on it, I turn it on for a short while (answering your messages for example).
As the zalman option you suggested, I must tell you that I live in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, which is the southermost place on the earth. (Thank God We are 200 Kms away from Antarctica, so as it's VERY COLD here, I don't mind very much about getting external heat. Actually I am keeping my heaters fown so that the room doesn't get hot and BELIEVE ME when I say that it's cold in the room) Anyway, PC devices here are VERY hard to find since the best option os to buy them online in Buenos Aires (which is 3000 Kms away from my town) and the prices with shipping expenses and all make products extremely expensive, to such an extent that getting a new card is the best option. What's more, MOST of the coolers you are suggesting do not even EXIST here in Argentina. So, I had to try other alternatives to what you were suggesting, but since I cannot have my AVG card without a cooling system, I guess I'll have to decide on something. I have already discarded this Big device I asked you about as you all pointed out the fact that the noise will me madenning and what I am actually trying to avoid is to have MORE NOISE from fans from the ones I already have.
In the meantime, do you know of that utility I asked about? I mean, is there such a thing?
I thank you enormously for the help and advice given. Believe me that is actually leading me.
Look... On an Argentinian bidding site (like e-bay) I found the one you mention, but it doesn't say LED. Is it the same? http://www.deremate.com.ar/accdb/viewItem.asp?IDI=11063197
It's U$D 65 (quite expensive converted to my currency) and the option I mentioned of the Giant cooler was almost the same price. Do you think I should go for it?
Ooops... I found it on another bidding site and cheaper... and this one DOES SAY LED!!!!

  • [Athlon64] CD / DVD not working properly, Neao K8T800 Pro series.

    Hi all,
I purchased a MSI K8t Neo2 motherboard along with a AMD 64 3200+ (socket 939) in the beginning of May.
When i installed the parts in my case I experienced some problems getting windows (which I reinstalled) to detect all the Harddrives i had.
I solved this by putting 3 HDD's on one IDE interface, and 1 on a separate controllercard. on the other IDE interface i put my Sony DRU-700A DVD alone.
This worked, to a certain extent.. When I place a disc in the DVD, windows gets a hizziefit and starts to lag insanely, when it's finally done, it won't autostart the discs i put in, i can't double-click it from My Computer as i get the error:
    "F:\
Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteprocessMemory request was completed."
Doesn't tell me much.. I then try ro right-click F: and select "exlore", AHA! this works. I get into the disc and i can move around in the foldertrees, but it takes time.. My GOD it takes time...
When i finally reach my destination and try to execute a .exe file, this happens:
    "F:\ is not a valid win32 application".
At this point one starts to think: "ok.. i know that.. but the exe-file i tried to start IS..."
NOTE: From time to time i've noticed that it switched between these 2 error messages, i.e i get the "not valid" when trying to start the disc and the "ReadError" when starting a .exe-file, and vice versa.
I have the latest bios, i have tried adding a LG CD-R/W tp the process and tested if that worked, see results here: www.vikholm.se/say_what.gif
I might not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but i know that CAN'T be right?
I then went into the Device Manager and selected "uninstall" on my Sony DVD, thinking it has to find new hardware on reboot and reinstall it. Windows finds nothing, and i can't seem to get it back again..
Anyways, i noticed that 2 updates to my mobo was avaliable through MSI Live Update, so i choose the newer one and install it, thinking it might solve this problem.
Select reboot -> Click "exit now" on firefox.exe  -> run for work as i', late -> come home now just to see that windows did NOT reboot as i got an error code from some exe-file.
Anyways, reboot properly this time and half-way through the boot up it reboots again, and at the loadingscreen where you can see the biosversion and such it says:
"Sec Master drive is not ATAPI compatible
    F1 to Resume"
This is my LG CD-R/W. I press F1 and it boots just fine, and i see that my LG is no longer avaliable in My computer.
    These are my problems.
    To sum things up:
    1. Could it be my mobo that is screwed up in the IDE interfaces?
    2. Could it be my IDE cables? (i don't have any others to try with =( )
    3. I've been in contact with Sony's support, accordign to their firmware testers and producttest programs, my device worked as it should.
    4. Anyone have any tips on how to get my Sonydevice back to windows without reinstalling windows? It not, i'll just have to reinstall.
    5. If all else failes, can anyone lend me a handgun so i can end my misery?
Thanks a million for reading and if you have the slightest idea of what might fix ANY of the problems stated above, do not hesitate to post. Please.
Milk and cookies for anyone who helps me solve this

The promise controller is simply there to add to their Sata Raid ability. It is not for opticals.
    Then let's do some RTFM:
    Quote
    Pages 1-2 and 1-3
    Promise 20579 On-Board (Optional)
    >Supports two SATA and one IDE
    -  RAID 0, RAID 1 and RAID 0+1 supported
    -  RAID function work with ATA133+SATA H/D or two SATA H/DConnect up to two SATA devices (such as SATA HDD, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM and
    two ATA133 devices
    > SATA 150MB/s with extensions (SATA II Phase I)
    > RAID Smart function
    > SATA ATAPI device compatible
That clearly states the ability to get opticals connected. It is admitted, that there only SATA opticals are mentioned.
    Quote
    Page 2-18
Parallel ATA/Serial ATA RAID Connectors controlled by Promise
    20579: IDE3/SER1/SER2 (Optional)
The brand new Promise 20579 chipset supports  one IDE connector IDE3 and two
    serial connectors SER1& SER2.
IDE3 is a 32-bit Enhanced PCI IDE and Ultra DMA 66/100/133 controller that provides
PIO mode and DMA mode 0~5, Bus Master, and Ultra DMA 66/100/133 function. You
can connect up to 2 hard disk drives---one IDE master and one IDE slave.
Other devices than HDDs are not mentioned in the IDE3 section.
Conclusion: According to the documentation, opticals can be connected to the promise controller, at least if they are connected to the SATA-interface.
    Own experiments show:
If an optical drive is connected to IDE3, the promise controller detects it correctly. If a bootable media is inserted, it is detected as bootable by the controller BIOS.
An old LD 8240 CD-Writer (only MWDMA2/PIO4 capable) works partly, if attached to IDE3, but there are errors. Playing Audio CDs and DAE generates drop-outs. CD burning results in corrupted data on the media.
If I connect a LG 4163B DVD-Writer, there are no issues concerning CD-playback or DAE. CD-recording was not tried out. The DVD-RAM feature fails, possibly due to driver interference.
This shows, that there at least a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive (PATA) might work on the promise controller, but that also depends on the drive itself.

Both of these can be used with Mail on any device.

Im completely new to Mac. Im swapping my windows laptop for macbook pro and looking for network storage solution which the Time Capsule seems to do. Is it possible to use this as NAS for my desktop Windows PC - windows 7

Broadly speaking I want some sort of network storage( wireless or through my existing wifi router) that I can access files for both my windows PC and Macbook and also to access files to my iPad/ iPhone. Some sort of backup and sychronisation so that I can access certain files remotely.
Buy a real NAS.. synology or QNAP are the standard... although companies like Netgear and Western Digital and Seagate make them as well.
There is no problem sharing between Mac and PC now.. you do not even need a NAS to do that.. you simply share the hard disk directly. Mac talk SMB.. everything talks SMB nowadays.. so it is easy.
ipad and iphone are not designed to use NAS.. they are designed to backup only to the cloud or itunes.. but you can load an app like file browser if you want.

Remote access to the Apple TC is somewhere between difficult, to impossible from a PC.. Apple use BTMM and iCloud but the service is not offered to PC.
A real NAS will offer HTTPS or SFTP or several other methods.. that both Mac and PC can use.
You simply plug it into the current wireless router.. it is a network device and assessable over the network. It is not necessary to buy another router.. in fact that is a waste.
