SOD caused by Amazon Apps

I have been able to positively link my SOD problems to Amazon Apps operating.  Any "paid" app requires the service to be running in the background to authenticate it and it is doing something to prevent the unit from waking from sleep mode.  I found this out when I deleted a bunch of apps including that one and my SODs went away.  The next day I discovered that I needed it to run several apps and re-installed it.  SODs returned.  Upgraded to version 1.15 with same results.  I forced stop the Amazon apps and have not had any SODs.  If I run one of the apps it will re-start but as long as I kill it afterwards I have kept the SODs away.  Over to Amazon & Toshiba to figure out how to get these things to play nice with each other.
I'd be curious to know if anyone else can replicate this problem.

I've been testing two thrives - both from Amazon - one with Clean Install, one old with SOD. I have Amazon Apps on Both.
Most of apps from Amazon app store. Downloaded slowly to second device - no SOD issues. The apps are also available in the marketplace, they just offer them free for a day. They also do more vetting (or so they say). My experience, apps - especially some pre loaded Google apps, can cause SOD. Its really a HC 3.1 issue. I haven't had SOD on the new tab vs. the old tab downloading apps that actually worked for Thrive from the Amazon App Store.

  • Amazon apps no longer available after 10.3

    Sooooo sorry that I upgraded to 10.3.   All the andoid apps that I got with amazon appstore previously (sideloaded on 10.2) no longer show up in my app list.   Also, if you search for apps in the appstore they no longer show up, such apps like netflix, goldfish etc.  
    Downloaded snap to have access to all the apps again.   If you go to the amazon appstore on the computer, NETFLIX is there.  Why the @#! does it not show up using the "new" amazon app on the phone!!

    This is not so much a 10.3 thing, but something else going on.
    There's a long thread over at crackberry.com about this issue.  Amazon does not set the device requirements - the app developers do.  Netflix disappeared off of Amazon back in January - before 10.3 was officially releaesd.  It went away for people still running 10.2.1.  It was Netflix that removed any BlackBerry device from their "approved device" list.  There is a running list of apps in that thread that are slowly no longer being made "available" to BlackBerry phones.
    The Amazon App Store app identifies the actual BlackBerry device used on their system.
    Snap only sends the Google ID and the API number corresponding to the runtime's Android version on your device.  So you do get a larger selection - including those that are excluding BlackBerry at Amazon.
    But then, you're also stuck having to deal with many of the apps on Google Play requiring Google Play Services to run.  Netflix wants it, but will still run.  A lot of apps are starting to require it and won't run on our phones without it.
    It looks like BlackBerry's deal with Amazon is falling apart.  With all these apps basically blacklisting BlackBerry, the advantage of having Amazon is disappearing as well.
    I don't know if Netflix is still ticked off at John Chen or what, but it's us customers of both who end getting hurt.

  • Having major issues with Amazon App Store on my Passport

    I got my Passport earlier this week. I haven't been able to download any apps from the Amazon App Store. Everytime I try to download anything from the Amazon App Store, I get a "download failed" message and a popup saying "There was an error while downloading.... Please try again".
    Has anyone else encountered this issue? Please let me know if you did and, more importantly, how this issue is fixed. At this point, I can't download ANYTHING from the Amazon App Store.
    I've made phone calls and had live chats with Amazon and they can't help me. Any help I can get here on the forum will be greatly appreciated.

    Amazon apps aren't updated as often and are usually behind the most current versions. While it doesn't happen that often I've gotten around the Google Services issue by using Lucky Patcher (there is a thread on CrackBerry about it) to rebuild the apk. It requires a few extra steps but I've only had to do it with a handful of apps.

    So glad I do regular Time Machine backups just in case :-/

  • Netflix on Amazon App Store

    Recently upgraded to the passport.
    Cannot find Netflix app on the amazon app store.
    On my q5 it wouldn't show up if you search for 'netflix' but I located the app in the Top Free list.
    Moving to the passport I am unable to locate the app.
    Also tried apktrain.com but v3.02 only logs into the main profile and I am unable to switch.

    Due to the number of problems with "upgrading" to this OS level, I suggest you try the very clean and very forceful AutoLoader OS Reload:

    Beware that it is completely destructive...the device will be "like new"...no data, no apps, no accounts, etc. Be sure you take a full backup first, as well as make full manual documentation of all apps, accounts, configurations, etc. Sometimes a restore reintroduces the very corruption one is trying to eliminate, and manual reconfiguration is necessary.
    You can also use this to fall back to a prior OS if you desire...you can install any OS level for which you can find an AutoLoader. (Hint...search over on the CB site!)

  • Amazon app store not opening in my Z10 after OS updated to 10.3.1?

    Recently updated my Balckberry z10 to 10.3.1 OS. Amazon appstore got installed as default. When i am trying to open it, it's asking permission to access data and files. And when i accept the same, the app crashes and closes. Please suggest way to resolve the issue.
    Have rebooted, and done as much as I could thing, and yet, this app still doesnt work.
    Worst is you cannot even remove the dam app from the system.
    Went to Device Monitor then Storage then Appstore. Clear data. 
    That would work if you could get past the ACCEPT part of the app. There is no data to clear if you dont even get to a logon screen
    This app does not or has not installed correctly at all
    You get to the ACCEPT permissions screen when the app opens and it immediatly crashes.
    No login, and when you open the app again its the same thing. Permissions screen at which you accept it again and crash.
    No matter how many times that you re install, reboot, reload the app
    SAME thing over and over.

    I recently upgraded from a BB Z30 to a BB Passport. 
    I am encountering problems with the Amazon APP Store and Instagram downloaded from Google Play Store.
    Whenever I run these programs, the following error message appears.
    Unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped
    I don't know how to solve this problem as I never encountered it in my BB Z30 when I updated to OS 10.3.1

    @Paullestat I've not encountered this message and I run many android apps from both Google Play and Amazon.
    Did this happen after your 10.3.1 update of the Passport? There have been a few strange things happening with the update that requires a reload of the OS to fix.
    I would first reboot your device by holding the Lock/Power button for 10 seconds (after the LED blinks), or the Up/Down volume buttons for 20 seconds.

    Backup first, and if you have encrypted your device and SD card, decrypt those BEFORE the backup, or all data will be lost.

    I know this seems like a no brainer, but I can seem to figure out how to install the Amazon app store on my A1107. I installed the Amazon app from Google Play expeting that it was the app store, but I think that is just an app to order from Amazon in general..     Never mind... Figured it out.. Just went to Amazon and selected add a device and then Amazon sent me an email with a link to install the app store and it worked great....
