Soft Chirping noise 3-5 times per second

I've had my Macbook since 2009, and since this morning it's been making a chirping noise, possibly from the optical disk drive, roughly 4 times per second. It stops for about a second every 10 minutes, but other than that it has been repetitively chirping all day. I haven't dropped it or anything like that. Please help!

take it in for service.  It is very difficult to diagnose a sound without having the mac present.  That's like someone asking "my car is making a chirping noise, what's wrong?" without the car infront of the mechanic (just making this comparison because I was a mechanic and people would call us on the phone and ask questions like that) it's difficult to tell.  It could be anything..and needs to be diagnosed properly in person.

  • Svchost.exe is accessing jp2iexp.dll hunderds of times per second

    I'm running Vista 64 and was trying to get rid of all the HD IO. So I ran sysinternals Process monitor and kicked the searchindexer.exe. But I also found that svchost.exe is accessing ...\jre6\bin\jp2iexp.dll hunderds of times per second. What is it doing? My JRE is 1.6.0_12-b04.

    No. I have IE7, FF3, Safari4 and Chrome1 on my system and used them alternating for testing. In this case I indeed used IE to start process monitor.
    Are you suggesting that the svchost.exe is IE and it is reading the DLL? Question then still remains: why?No, certainly not.
    svchost is a required Windows process.
    I am guessing from the naming of the dll p2iexp.dll

      ^^ ie; internet explorer
    ^^ p2; dunno, maybe plugin version 2 ?A quick Google ( [svchost.exe|http://www.google.com/search?q=svchost.exe] )

  • Zenwsimp.log is huge, errors repeating many times per second

    Newly installed NW 5.1 SP6 server running ZFD 4.01 ir5 - I know, it's all
    old stuff, but it's the same as 6 or 8 other production servers we haven't
    had time to upgrade yet, and we didn't expect a new one would cause problems.
    After about a month of well-behaved operation, the server started to
    routinely hit 90%+ utilization every couple of days...
    Finally caught it red-handed - was the jave workstation import process
    thread owned 90% of all the systems threads. Killed that process, and the
    system settled right down.
    The TID's I've found say the error that is filling up the log, namely
    "Could not remove container attribute value.", is quote> innocuous <quote.
    Its the only error I've found in the huge log file so far, it is anything
    but innocuous. Repeating over and over 20 to 30 times per second.
    The zenwsimp.log file is nearly 1 GIG in size. The server was basically
    ignoring everything trying to update the giant log file.
    The tids also said to check the log for a workstation sending corrupt
    inventory information about the time the problem occurs. Just trying to
    read the log at the 1 gig file size is proving to be a challenge by itself.
    Typing it to the screen from a dos prompt is the only way I've been able
    to open it so far, at least with my 1GIG of RAM laptop system. Notepad and
    Write either error out or croak trying to load the log data. Typing it to
    the screen is the only way I've got to look at it, and after 15 minutes,
    it's still running, repeating nothing but that error message.
    I tweaked the startup ncf files to prevent the workstation import function
    from even loading until a solution can be found, rebooted the server, and
    all seems to be behaving since then. But after scouring the support site,
    I haven't seen anything to give me any other clues about what to do.
    Sure would appreciate some pointers or suggestions.

  • Adobe Flash, latest version, is hitting the disk hundreds of times per second with disk reads and writes for no obvious reason. Is this normal? If not, ...

    I am running Firefox 18 on Windows 7, all with latest updates. The Adobe Flash plugin (latest version) hits the disk with hundreds of reads and hundreds of writes each second. This seems to start as soon as cnn.com is loaded then as other sites are loaded it just gets worse. Any thoughts on what might be causing this? Is it normal? If not normal, how can I can stop it?

    I do not really have any solid suggestions for this but
    * 11.6.602.168 is now the latest version. You were using Flash 11.5 r502 <br />Have you now updated ?
    * Hardware acceleration issues are sometimes resolved by upgrading Graphics drivers <br /> [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
    Flash often causes issues with Firefox. From Flash 11.3 some Windows users were needing to disable Flash's ''protected mode''. Rather a longshot but it may be worth experimenting with the protected mode and trying turning it off.

  • Nokia DT-901 chirping noise 24/7

    Is it normal that DT-901 wireless charger makes chirping noise all the time, even without phone on the charging plate? Noise comes from the power supply (Nokia AC-301E), not from the plate. The noise is not loud but I have good hearing so it gets annoying after awhile. And the advantages of wireless charging are lost when I must unplug the power supply when not in use.
    I recorded a sound clip so you can listen how it sounds: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0wpylcbocjtoj3w/DT-901.mp3?dl=0

    MV78 is looking for someone which a Nokia DT-901 which does not chirp, because he then takes the hurdle to exchange his Nokia AC-301E. The (global or his local) Product Manager for the Nokia DT-901 would be stupid to answer, if this is not a general issue – he would just increase the return-rate of his own product. My Nokia AC-301E chirps as well, therefore, I cannot add anything to this thread. farby or jimmyireland, do you have a Nokia DT-901 and does it not chirp?

  • Calculating value per second

    Hi all. I need to just calculate and save the values per second in the variable that how many times per second a variable is being revieved in the method as a parameter and then show that progress as int / second in the progress bar
    public void method(int a)
    //Want to calculate [integer variable a] coming in the method per second
    Thanks n Regards

    We used to do this in C by declaring the variable as static... I've not tried it in Java:
    public int myMethod(){
      static i = 0;
      i++;
      return i;
    }Since the Statics are only initialize at runtile the first line is only done once, not every entry--so you get an entry count.
    you can also do this:
    public void myMethod(){
      myEntryCount++;where you have myEntryCount defined globally with respect to your method--like a class variable.

  • CompactRio software error, safe mode, Staus light 4 flashes per second

    My cRio 9204 was running fine for the past weeks. But this saturday it stopped working and Status light showing 4 flashes per second.
    I opened MAX, and the cRio was in safe mode (sofeware error)
    I tried to reformat the controller and reinstall the software. It did not fix the problem.
    After I reformatted the controller, the Status lights were flashing twice per second (The controller has detected an error in its software)
    After I installed the software,  the Status lights were flashing 4 times per second (The controller software has crashed twice without rebooting or cycling power between crashes).
    the Error log showed the memory was mostly free, so it was not memeory problem.
    I am using LabView 2013 SP1, Real Time 13.0.1, CompactRio 13.1 Feb-2014, scan mode. The cRio is doing data logging and is running without PC connected. The TDMS file is saved in USB.  Everyday a startup Vi will automatically run when there is power. Today when I check the TDMS file , I fould out it stopped recording at Saturday noon, and cRio was in error.
    What could the problem be, what tests could I run to figure out the error is? Any idea would be appreciated. I have attached the error log to this message

    The problem appears to be something is wrong with the hardware. I recommend that you contact National Instruments about getting the cRIO repaired. Have a great day.

    It sounds like a perfect application for your needs. Remember to buy powerful hardware not having to worry about the performance.

  • Slow response - but over 500 activities per second doing something!

    Hi. I'm having trouble with my iMac running slowly with lots of hangs. The system.log.7.bx2 is showing the following activity apparently over 500 times per second!
    Apr 24 11:15:12 kelvin-08e2b175 sandboxd[7358]: mDNSResponder(19) deny file-read-data /private/var/db/com.apple.parentalcontrols.keychain.jZOTiS

    I've checked the parental controls and they are all off except possibly for the Guest login which seems to show it as the default.
    There's also a line saying something about a slow response on refreshing the log as follows -
    Apr 25 00:31:23 kelvin-08e2b175 configd[14]: Kernel configd com.apple.powermanagement.applicationresponse.slowresponse 6960 ms
    Can anybody give me a pointer as to what could be wrong? Many thanks. Kev

  • Updated iPad2 to iOS6. Now it randomly freezes. Have to reboot (home   sleep key for 15 seconds) several times per day. Help!

    Help! I guess I can restore it to original factory settings but I am afraid of losing everything. If it helps the iPad is NOT jailbroken. Any ideas or do I have to wait for a future update?

    Just to clarify. Once I am done with the iPad and push the sleep button (upper right corner) or just let it sleep from inactivity for a couple minutes, the issue happens when I try to wake it up. I can see the unlock screen with the pin pad but the iPad becomes unresponsive and I cannot enter the numbers or I can enter the numbers but it freezes right after that while the pin pad is still visible. The only thing that fixes it is to hold the home and sleep button for 10-15 seconds and wait a minute for the whole thing to reboot. At that point it usually works. Still, what I liked about the iPad was the convenience of being immediately ready and now I have to reboot many times per day.
    I have an iPad2 with the latest update (6.01) and it is not jail broken. Apple help me please!

  • Chirping noise every 2 seconds, mute stops it!

    Today I noticed that my MacBook Pro has suddenly started sounding like there's a small bird trapped inside it.
    At first I thought I could hear birds outside but it's too rythmical, with a chirping sound made about every 2 seconds. It's coming from the MacBook and appears to be equally loud through each speaker.
    I don't think that it's due to the fan or the drive as it's coming from the speakers AND it stops when I mute the volume.
    Any ideas what this could be? I really can't afford to have my machine die on me right now and am rather worried!
    Thanks for any help.
    Robert

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    No idea what this is, but it might not hurt to run some diagnostic tests. You could run the extended version of the Apple Hardware test and see if anything shows up in the form of an error code.
    You could also run this utility:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/32454
    You can download the demo and run it several times for free. It will give you a comprehensive view of the physical health of your hard drive.
    I wonder if the speaker is picking up a sound from the drive or the fan and magnifying it. If you mute the volume, can you still hear the sound faintly?
    Good luck!
