Soft edges/blurred photos

I shoot on a 5d and at times I'll get part blurred image of a body, flowers, etc..., it happens outside but mostly indoors.
I use a 580 II flash and shutter speed is 60-80.
Dose any one else have or had this problem and if so what have you done to correct it?

I'm also from the film days & had my own darkroom too & the line under my regular messages is a generalization & not directed at you. One other thing besides the shutter speed might be that you're just a tiny bit closer than the minimum focal distance. A faster sync speed & maybe shoot from a bit further back until you solve which might be the problem.

  • Soft edges filter - not rendering correctly?

    Hey,
When I put the soft edges effect (under matte in video filters) over some text, it says it needs to render. However, once I render and the red line is gone, it just plays in the sequence as it did before, without the soft edges.
Strangely, when I click on the text and it comes up in the viewer, it shows the soft edges...how do I make it so it shows in the sequence?
Thanks so much for your help.

I'm trying to get the look of the old timey intertitle cards in silent films...Eventually I just had to put a color matte beneath text, and problem solved. But in a funny annoying twist, you can't do soft edges and soft focus blur both...it screws up the text..so I really got nowhere.

Sounds kind of stupid, but check to make sure that your iphone case cover is not blocking the edge of the camera lens.  I had a silicone case on my 3S and when it got older, it started tot slip and the edges of my pictures were blurred.

  • When exporting photo to my pictures folder it shows up as a soft color & no photo..Please help

When exporting my edited pictures to a folder in m Pictures it goes as a blank soft color but no photo. It looks like a tiny dot and when you open it, it is a soft color.. Please help!

I am trying to send as attachement. I have tried to screen shot but must not have a clue how to!  Is there a number someone can walk me through this.. or if you could tell me how to screen shot it. I am trying the print screen but not working. I have never done on  a computer before. My system is Dell Pentium Dual Core [email protected]   4.00GB  64 Bit Windows Vista. I tried to download a trial of LR4 so I could get some work done until prob fixed but it tells me my system not compatible. I am thinking of creative cloud but will this work with my system. I use LR for 100% of my editing but have been doing other things (newborns) where I feel I need CS6. If you could let me know what I need to do to run the new LR and CS6 that would be great. (Really need a computer class)! Thanks

  • Is there a way to use eraser tool with soft edges?

    Hi,
I am wanting to erase the edges of a rectangular object so that it blends better with the background, and am wondering if there is a way of doing this using the eraser tool with soft edges?
Here is a snapshot to illustrate further what I mean:
You should be able to see that above the curve on the left there is a gradient which extends to the top of the image. This is the rectangle which I have applied a gradient to. At the top of the rectangle the colour is the same as the background. What I am trying to do is to blend the left edge of the rectangle in with the background above the curve (below the curve there is a line so no blending is needed). The way I thought of doing this is using the eraser tool with a soft edge. I can do this in Photoshop, but I'm not sure if this is possible or the best approach in Illustrator.
I would be grateful for any advice on this,
    Thanks,
    Nick

I don't really understand yoru end goal. However, the answer to yoru Eraser Tool question is no. There is no such thing as a "soft edge" for the eraser tool.
The ways to blend objects in specific areas only would be:
    Gradients with transparent stop
    Gradient mesh with transparency nodes
    Opacity masks
Fake it by blending to the same color as the background.

  • Correcting blurred photos in premiere elements 11

I have checked several solutions to correcting blurred photos in premiere elements 11.  Most of them turn out to be different versions and does not help me.   I have had: in expert mode select photo, filter-other-high pass.  I tried this and doesnt work.  I believe if this is the way to correct blurred photos, I am missing a step somewhere.  I have gone to enhance-adjust sharpness or unsharp.   I must be doing something wrong. or can you correct blurred photo?

What is the situation - I do not really see the typical 720 x 480 resolution vs HD resolution type of question. I am seeing it as a photo editing (sharpening) question which may or may not be related to further use of these photos in Premiere Elements 11.
Which of the following is applicable to your situation..
    a. You have great looking photos saved on the computer hard drive, but, after you import them into Premiere Elements, they look blurry on the Timeline and you want to try to correct that
    or
    b. You have great looking photos, but, after you import them into Premiere Elements and burn them to DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc, the photos are blurry in the playback of the DVD-VIDEO with your TV's DV player
    or
    c. None of the above, rather you are trying to improve the sharpness of your photos in general using Photoshop Elements Full Editor/Filter Menu/Other/High Pass. If so, have you tried the Unsharp Mask under the Enhance Menu?
Consider the distinction between sharpening an image (contrast changes) and trying to correct a bad blur  in the original.
From all that you have written, I suspect that this involves "c" and how to get the best results for sharpening an image in Photoshop Elements. If that is the case, you might seek input from the Photoshop Elements Forum here on that. Another possibility is that you may be creating pixelation in your images if you are up-sizing your images in the search for higher resolution and better quality.
Please give as much more detail to make sure that your question and its answer can be targeted correctly.
Please do not forget the follow up which is the key to success.
    Thank you.

  • New Powershot A 2300...really disappointed in number of blurred photos.

I have been taking photos for years.  I decided to buy a new digital camera...Note I already have 2...I have never had a problem with blurred photos till I took photos yesterday of a grandson 1st birthday.  Out of 12 photos took, 9 were blurred.  1 when the baby moved just as I snapped the photo.  the other 8 were just out of focus and blurred.  I never a camera that is this senstitve.  Ready to send it back.

    Hi gapch125!
Thank you for posting about your PowerShot A2300!
If the subjects are moving, they may be moving out of the area being focused on.  You may want to try using Servo AF for moving subjects.  Please follow these steps:
    Press the MENU button.
    Choose [Servo AF].
    Choose [On].
The focus and exposure are maintained where the blue AF frame is displayed while you are pressing the shutter button down halfway.

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

  • Blending edges of photos of PSE6

I am trying to make a collage using a picture as a background and by adding 2 other pictures in the corner of the picture background.  I would like the main portion of added pictures to be solid but I would like the edges of the 2 added photos to sort of blend or fade into the picture background.  So the edges of the added photos are not as hard and you can see a bit of the background picture in the edges of the 2 added photos.  I have searched and cannot seem to figure out how to do it.  Maybe I am searching for the wrong terms, I don't know.  The photomerge option does not work.  Or I can't figure out how to make it work.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

You could use a clipping mask to do this natively or you could use an add-on to add layer masking function to Elements.
This tutorial  which uses an adjustment layer as the base of a clipping mask is using an older version of Elements but it is done the same way in current versions of Elements.
    http://www.myjanee.com/tuts/elements/elemask.htm
Note: You can also use a blank layer in the place of the adjustment layer in the above tutorial. Paint on the blank layer to create the base of the clipping mask. Use Gaussian Blur to soften (feather) the edges.
If you prefer the add-on approach, there are several freeware tool sets that include a layer mask add-on.  Here is a link to one of them.

  • How do I blur photos in iPhoto 11?

In the older versions of iPhoto, the sharpness slider default position was in the middle. Slide to the right {+} and the picture sharpened, slide to the left {-} and it blurred. Now that the slider starts from the left, there seems to be no way to decrease the sharpness (I didn't blur often, but it was handy for a few shots).
The weird thing is, is that when you hold the cursor over the Sharpness control, you get conflicting messages :
over the word Sharpness, the tooltip says Sharpen the focus
but over the slider itself, it says Sharpen or soften the focus
The implication is that there is a way to turn the sharpness slider into a soften slider, but neither Control nor Option achieves this.
Does anyone know how to make the Sharpness slider into a Soften slider? (There doesn't seem to be any logical reason why Apple would simply remove one of the features in iPhoto).

I would certainly use Aperture if I shot RAW, but my Lumix FZ38 - though it can shoot RAW - came out in tests as not worth using as 1) it's a very small sensor and 2) its Venus JPEG engine is very good.
I do also have Photoshop CS2, which is the only thing that now makes my ancient Canoscan scanner work (VueScan also, but I'm not prepared to pay $40 when Photoshop does it for free) - also Photoshop supports Action macros and CMYK which Elements doesn't. I once bought Pixelmator too, so I have 'graphics editor' overload!
Having said that, I do 90% of my photo editing in iPhoto, and find '11 is quite capable. It's just an annoyance that they took away the Blur feature. (I had a look at Macphun, but I don't need to pay for yet more editing software ).
Actually, I just remembered I also have Back In Focus, which is special sharpening software - maybe it does the opposite too? I'll have to have a look at that.
    Thanks.

  • Blurred photos after OS update

Photos in my Iphone 3GS became blurred/pixelated after updating to IOS4. Any idea why? Thanks!

I have the same problem with the blurry photos!! The only ones that are not blurry are the ones I took with my iphone camera, not ones I synced from my iphoto library.
Going to try to "resync" as suggested.

  • Blurred Photo Printing after replacing ink cartridges

    Hi everyone,
First post on here! I have a PSC 1355, which has always printed very good quality photographs, until yesterday. The old HP ink cartridges (Tricolor and Photo) were both low on ink so I replaced them with new HP ones (identical models) and ran the alignment procedure. There were no messages to say the alignment failed, but now the photos are printing blurred as if the cartridges are not aligned. There appears to be a slight overrun of ink outside the border of the print, which suggests misalignment to me.
I put the old cartridges back and aligned them, but they now print blurred too. I reprinted a picture I'd previously printed to compare - the original print was pin sharp, but the new one is very blurred. I've cleaned the cartridges using the utility but no change. Paper is good quality HP photo paper, the same as I was using before. I haven't changed any other settings, print preferences, etc. Any ideas anyone??
    Thanks.

I am going to ask the very obvious question:
You did get each cartridge in the correct place?
You are using genuine Canon cartridges and not off brand or refills? <-----this is very important
You have the correct paper settings?
    EOS 1Ds Mk III, EOS 1D Mk IV EF 50mm f1.2 L, EF 24-70mm f2.8 L,
    EF 70-200mm f2.8 L IS II, Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 EX APO

  • Jagged edges on photos.

    Hello.
I got a huge problem when trying to incorporate pics in PSE12.
I have downsized all pics to 2000X1500 using PS.
My problem is that the photos comes out with jagged edges and really bad quality.
I have tried all sorts of things.  Saving it to PC helped a little but still jagged edges and overall really bad quality.
    Tried different sizes, still same.
Even tried downsizing to 720 and burn to disc, playback on ps4.  Still same.
The quality of video is fine and looks alot better then Pictures.  I can just pause the video and it looks
    crisper with no jagged edges.
I have never experienced this Before with older versions of PSE.
And No!  This is not a resolution issue.  I know they wont look as crisp as original
photos but they should be on par with videoquality and as of now they are not.

    Vinjack
Just what program are you working with - Photoshop Elements 12 or Premiere Elements 12. The "PSE" abbreviation is typically used with Photoshop Elements.
In order for us to help you, please clarify your posting. If this is a Photoshop Elements question, you have posted in the wrong forum. You want the Adobe Photoshop Elements Forum (photo editing) and not where you are now the Adobe Premiere Elements Forum (video editing). It is your mention of "Timeline" incorporated in the "PSE" description that is confusing. By any chance are you working in the Elements Organizer Slideshow Editor of a Photoshop Elements program? Do you have any version of Premiere Elements at all?
Looking forward to your follow up.
    Thanks.
