Soft Proofing Alterations Happen on Original aswell  as Virtual (Proof) Image

When soft proofing, I split the image horizontally and then create proof image when asked after making first alteration.
However, in both LR4.4 and 5Beta, both the original and virtual (i.e., proofing image) change.
Example.  Have l Brightness value of 55 in original.  Proofed image is duller.  Increase brightness in proof by 10 to match original. (Figures are just for explanation)  Now when I compare images again, original image brightnesss has increased by 10 also.  This can be seen, of course, on the Develop panel.
Obviously, proofing won't now work properly, I think.
What is wrong here?

After you make a develop-change in <Softproof> you should get a dialog box that gives tyou three options:
<Undo> - <Make This a Proof> - <Create Proof Copy>.
Are you selecting <Create proof Copy>?
Only then a Virtual Copy is created that shows the altered state while the original remains without the alteration.
If you select <Make This a Proof> the original image will be changed.

  • Is it possible to save the adjusted virtual copy image and discard the original?

I have made a virtual copy of an image which I then adjusted in LR to the way I want to keep it. Now I am wondering either if there is a way to apply those adjustments easily to the original so I can then discard the virtual copy, or should I save the virtual copy and delete the original? I just don't need two images, one which is not a keeper. I also don't want to delete the original if the virtual copy depends upon its existence.
I want to keep images down to the one's I want and am working to delete those images which I will never use. Whichever is the best way to handle the above situation will enable me to do some much needed housekeeping to my catalog.
    TIA,
    Ken

You guys are pretty slick, no two ways about it. I think I'm learning Lightroom, but I'm just happy with it helping in my own situation. Some of you have far-reaching understanding of this wonderful program. Lightroom is a 'must' as I see it.
Ian, I've tried your method, as it seems easiest and most direct, I selected the VC and chose the menu item 'make copy original' and it did a 'conversion' or so it looked like, but the images still say 1 of 2 for the original with no modifications and 2 of 2 for the cropped and adjusted version. I am skeerd to delete the '1 of 2' version which I believe 'was' the original version before I chose the menu item. Now I'm not sure what I have.
Hal P Anderson, I tried your method and it did transfer the settings but not the crop, which I can understand why. I re-cropped the 1 of 2 to match the 2 of 2 version which is the virtual copy, and then selected the virtual copy and hit delete - the dialog box confirmed I was deleting the VC by asking if I wanted to delete this virtual copy. I felt more comfortable with that arrangement and now I'm sans VC with the original possessing the new settings.
    Thanks to you both,
    Ken

  • HT4972 what happens if original itunes account is no longer accessible

my original itunes account is no longer available to me.  My computer crashed and i have since been using another computer. I need to update my ipad.  Do I have any options but to sync to this new computer?
    Thank you for your help

If you have another computer, you can authorize that computer with your Apple ID and Password. [Store - Authorize This Computer]
Then, in settings, set it up to NOT automatically sync your iPad when it is recognized in iTunes. [Edit > Preferences > Devices > Prevent iPods, iPads, iPhones From Syncing Automatically]
Now, connect your iPad to your computer with iTunes open.
Once iPad is recognized on the left side of iTunes Screen, right click it and choose Transfer Purchases.
From then on, you can update and use iTunes on that computer just like your old computer.

  • Can apple reset a apple id if you send it off with proof of purchase? ORIGINAL OWNER WHO HAS SIMPLY FORGOT

It's my own Id i've forgot and I brought the ipod from brand new, there must be a solution? I've seen many saying contact previous owner because apple won't look into it but I am the original owner and just need it to be reset because it went back to factory settings i do not have my email because it was from a year ago and i was stupid and forgot where i set it up because it was my first apple product. i have seen some answers saying they will if you have the original bill, please help! I miss my ipod!

Ok that's fab thank you! Do i need anything else apart from a print out of the bill and date and the actual ipod it's self? Do you know how long it will take and will they actually be able to fix it considering it is mine and i haven't brought it off ebay or anything?

  • Easy way to export without altering settings to original clip

So I have this 1280x720 MP4 clip that is 4 minutes or so long. I only need 2:30 of it, so have chopped up what I need. Now I want to keep the format and settings and everything exactly the same when I export. Is there a sort of "export as is" option so eerything remains eactly the same bar the length?
Thanks to anyone who can help.

exporting to mp4 isn't a problem, final cut will export to MP4. I just want to export out exactly what I have imported in. Surely there must be a way to do such a thing I havn't changed the format, frame size, or anything like that, just the duration of the clip.
The point of me posting on the final cut forum was to be able to do this in final cut, not use another program.

  • Help! iPhoto alerts pop up that say, "The photo "DSC06691.JPG" cannot be opened because the original cannot be located." I can locate original, but I have multiple images with same name!

Recently my library prompted me to rebuild due to inconsistencies that were found in library. Now alerts pop up that say it can't locate the original of an image, so I have an option to cancel or locate it. I can locate the file, however, there are usually 2 or 3 photos with the same file name! Not sure which one it is trying to locate etc. I have a feeling this is the problem. Not sure how it happened. Has anyone had this happen to them?? iPhoto library hasn't rebuilt because there are so many pop up alerts...I have a feeling it's a big problem. I am going to attempt to select one image for each one and see what happens, but I am concerned what the outcome will be.
My camera cards are already deleted (I knew I should have kept them!!). We do have time capsule, so I am assuming I can go back, but I am worried that iphoto will do the same thing. It just started doing it about two weeks ago and it didn't correspond with any photo uploads. I hope someone can help!

Are you running a managed or referenced library?
If it's a managed library apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Original (Full Quality) Bug - Lores Images Being Offered For Download

I just discovered today that iWeb uses 800x600 images for download even though Original (Full Quality) is selected for the album and a 1200x1600 version of the file is available.
I got around this by selecting Large (Higher Quality). This actually offers the 1200x1600 images I had intended.
I wonder what will happen, however, if I start offering even larger images. What is the highest res that the Large setting allows? And has anyone figured out a different way around this Original bug? Obviously, iWeb doesn't think Original (Full Quality) means what I think it means... :/

If you want to offer the very large images for downloading you can do it this way:
1 - put zipped copies of the photos on the server.
2 - add a small thumbnail sized version on the page and add a text base hyperlink, i.e. "Click to download", below it and set it to point to an external page.
3 - for the external page URL use the URL to the zipped file. If you're using MobileMe you can put the zipped file into the Pictures folder and the URL to use would be:
    http://homepage.mac.com/yourMMe_Account_name/.Pictures/filename.zip"
When the visitor clicks on the download hyperlink it will automatically download. No loading into the browser window necessary.
The page would load quickly and if you made any changes to the page the large image files would not have to be republished along with the page.
Of course this will not work with a photo page. You'd have to add the thumbnails to a blank or other type of page.

  • Origin location in a corrected image (using calibration data)

    Hi there,
I am using the vision toolkit to correct deformation in images.
I am not using the dot grid template to let the software generate the calibration
map, but instead use a set of points (which I can precisely define
in the deformed image) and provide their respective "real world"
coordinates. I can then apply this correction to other images.
Up to now everything is fine.
Now I want to overlay two sets of images, which are deformed
differently (for instance, they represent the same object, but have
been imaged in slightly different conditions). I
can correct one set using the approach above, and the other separately, using
its own separate correction, but I am stuck there.
Each calibration/correction is characterized by a scaling factor and an
origin coordinate. I need both to be able to overlay the two sets of images.
I have chosen non-linear calibrations that preserves area and I figured a
way to recover the scaling factor by computing the areas of all the square
pattern in my set of calibration points (as computed in the original image), taking
the average and then the square root of this average area: this gives the
spacing between equidistant points in the corrected image.
However, I can't figure out how to get the location of the origin in the
corrected image. One of my calibration points is associated with position
(0, 0) in the real world. However, this is neither its position (in pixel unit)
in the original image or the corrected image. I need the latter. How can I
obtain it simply (I can think of sophisticated ways to obtain it, but I suspect
    there might be trivial one).
Thanks in advance for your answer.
    Sincerely,
    X.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Dear X,
I'm not sure if this is the information that you are looking for, but take a look in the Vision Concepts Manual, page 3-10
    start»programs»National Instruments»Vision»Documentation»NI Vision»Concepts_Manual.pdf
"If you specify a list of points instead of a grid for the calibration process,
the software defines a default coordinate system, as follows:
    1. The origin is placed at the point in the list with the lowest x-coordinate
value and then the lowest y-coordinate value.
    2. The angle is set to zero.
    3. The axis direction is set to indirect."
If not, I don't know of a good way to recover the transformation between an original image and a correct image for a specific pixel. It would be one thing if it were a simple linear calibration, but we don't have access to the algorithm used to apply the nonlinear correction, which changes based on the locations of the distortion in the image.
What are you looking for in overlaying the images? Are you doing a comparison?
I don't know the constraints of your project, but one thing you could try is doing a pattern or geometric match for a unique feature in both of the corrected images that you want to overlay (one you know the location of, and that will serve to align the images properly), and then define the coordinate system based on that match.
    Hope that helps!

  • How to alter the contrast/brightness/invert/smooth of an image? (beginner)

    Hey,
I'm new to image manipulation and processing and have been told to use Java 2d with Image/ImageIO/MediaTracker/BufferedImages already in order to load and save my image, but I just can't find any nice way to learn how I would go about altering at least the brightness and contrast of the image I loaded up into the buffered image tracked by MediaTracker. After this I will be needing to invert and smooth the image then make a histogram, ais there any good tutorial or book to teach me how I woudl go about modifying the pixels within the image because so far I have no idea about what to do for the algorithm or what filter/classes/methods I should be doing from here. Can anyone help me out on how to start manipulating the images? I've seen a few random examples which don't really explain how the things work and I want to understand how to do the algorithms and processing though.

The book Filthy Rich Clients by Chet Haase and Romain Guy does a pretty good job of explaining how to work with images.
Its companion [website |http://filthyrichclients.org/] has links to code samples. Check out chapters 4 and 8 in the Examples section.

  • Would there happen to be a way so save images from not one, but multiple tabs in firefox instead of clicking through every single tab? Thanks.

Usually when I'm browsing through random photos, either for work or for leisure, I always middle click them to open a new tab. So again, is there a way to save images from multiple tabs without cycling through each tab, right-clicking, deleting that tab then going to the next? Help is much appreciated.

An alternative to middle clicking all the image links is just to use the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/201/ DownThemAll] extension with its [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/12577/ anti-container] companion to choose the images you want to download from the original page of random photos.

  • I want to get my original photos out of aperture and can't seem to find a way to do it, I can't locate an original folder, I understand that images I have edited won't be exported I just want to have a copy of my files out of the system

I want to have my photo files all in one place.  I want them out of the Apeture libary structure.
    Thank you
    Joe

    Hello Joe,
do you want to continue using Aperture or do you want to manage your images yourself?
If you want to continue using Aperture, but to be able to browse your images without launching Aperture, then relocate your master image files:
Select all images in the Browser
Use the File menu:     File -> Relocate master        and select a folder, where you want to store the master image files.
Be warned, that you must not edit, change, tag these files in any way, unless using Aperture itself to do the modification. Otherwise the link between master image files and version in Aperture may be broken.
Make sure you have a working backup of your Aperture Library before you do that.
But why do you want access to your images outside Aperture? Aperture as a digital asset management system is supposed to be able to manage you images in versatile a way, to give you access to all information you need. So what are you missing?

  • Alter disjointed rollover code to accomodate database driven images

       position: absolute;
