Soft route audio from line in thru to headphones /  Audio Midi Setup

howdy,
I am trying route audio from the line-in jack to the headphone jack. It seems that this should be possible using audio midi setup but the "thru" buttons don't respond to mouse clicks. Any ideas? The shareware program "Line-in" works but I only get audio on the left channel.
thnaks, Dan

to answer my own question, the through routing is possible using GarageBand. I'd still be interested to seeif anyone knows how AMS is supposed to work.

  • Separate audio from video - I want BOTH an audio and video file

    Hi,
    I would like to separate audio from video - I want BOTH an audio and video file.
    I don't think this can be done without additional software, but if it can, pointing me in the right direction would be much appreciated.
    Brandon

    You need Quicktime 7.6 Pro. Control+J to bring up the property window. In the property window is an extract button. Click on either the video or audio and click to the extract button.
    You'll find Quicktime 7 in your Utilities folder. If Quicktime 7 isn't install in the Utilities folder you need to install it from you OS installation disk, in the optional installations folder.
    If you don't have Quicktime Pro you need to buy it from the Apple store.

  • Recording audio from line-in

    When I start recording, Captivate switches automaticly from
    line-in (where my input device is) to microphone. Captivate forgets
    my configuration, which I set under "Audio" / "Options". How can I
    get live capturing using line-in? When I edit single foils line-in
    works fine.
    Thanks. Mathias.

    Hi again Mathias,
    The "line-in" problem was noticed a long time ago but since I
    use a standard headset-microphone-to-mic-port configuration, I am
    uncertain whether this was fixed with the "dot" release last year
    (upgrading version 1.0.0 to 1.0.1).
    Check to be sure you have the last release, Mathias. "Help
    > About" will give you the version and build numbers ... if you
    are using the English language localization, your build should be
    #1418 (vice #1188 I believe). If it is not, you might benefit from
    the free download for the last release.
    P.S. If you are using a localization for another language,
    you'll have to find out the current situation for that version -
    sorry, but I'm only familiar with the English-language version. I
    imagine that Adobe Support might be able to help, in that case. . .

  • No audio from line out

    hi,
    my audio works with internal speaker but nothing from line out when selected in sound controls. In audio midi setup, i do not appear to have any control on the master volume for line out, (its stuck at 0) i am suspecting a driver problem - May have been overwritten or deleterd when I tried to install Parallels 7 - now uninstalled
    cheers
    Mac

    What do you have connected to line out?
    Line out is designed to be the input to amplifiers and not speakers.

  • No audio from line out port

    hello, i am using plug-powered speakers on my powermac g5 using the front headphone port. the speakers work fine this way, but when i use them on the line out port in the back, i get a high pitched hissing sound and very quiet audio. the computer detects the speakers, and i am sure i'm using the output port ] ))) and not the input port >o<. how can i get the speakers to work from the line out port so i don;t have to use the front headphones port? thanks!

    i have a question. if i have standard apple ipod headphones, and use them on the rear audio out port, will i get the same sound as the headphones port on the front?
    i still can't get this to work. i'm starting to believe this is a hardware problem, all the settings are identical for audio out and headphones in audio MIDI setup, but i'm still not getting any sound when i use the rear.

  • No audio from HDMI output because High Definition Audio Driver cannot start (Envy 17 Quad)

    Ever since I first bought this laptop two months ago, the audio from the HDMI output has always been inconsistent. I remember it working a couple times, but there were more times when my audio driver didn't recognize that an HDMI cable was plugged in. Yes, I tried all the obvious: shutting down computer, checking disabled devices in Playback Devices, reinstalling drivers, etc. Now, when I plug an HDMI cable in, the video comes out fine but the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC does not recognize HDMI/my TV. The High Definition Audio Driver says it cannot start, but I could not reinstall nor find a download from HP's website. How can I get audio through HDMI to my TV??

  • Macbook 2008 no audio from speakers - can't disable digital audio - red light in headphone jack

    Looking for help with this problem, that seems like a lot of people had in the past and still have, but I see that a couple of discussions on it here have been archived. Too bad, as the problem continues.
    I seem to be having the same problem with my late 2008 white 2.1Ghz Macbook.
    I had used earphones a few times with movies and iTunes, with no problems. Now I've just rebooted to find that I have no audio from internal speakers (the boot up chime works though). Earphones work perfectly.
    There is a constant red light in the earphone jack. The volume icon in the top menu bar is greyed out. In the Sound preference panel, Built-in Speakers are not available as an option for audio out. The only option is Digital Audio. If I connect earphones, then they are available as the only option.
    I have tried all the various methods that people have recommended, to switch off digital audio through the earphone jack: trying to flip the little switch with a toothpick, paper clip, etc., as well as cleaning around inside the jack with a bit of rubbing or cleaning alcohol; also tried inserting and removing the earphones plug several times, while pushing the volume buttons on the keyboard. Nothing works.
    I did get something from inserting/removing the earphone plug, as I seemed to be able to adjust volume from the keyboard, but I never got sound out from the speakers; the volume window seemed to indicate increase/decrease volume as I pressed the keys, but after a few seconds the volume window greyed out again with the No Entry symbol.
    Trying to flip the digital audio switch in the jack occasionally gets the red light to turn off for a couple seconds, but then it comes back on.
    Is there any particular problem with this that can't be solved by the aforementioned methods, that many people have used to solve it in a simple manner? Could my problem be more serious? Is there anything I could do if I opened up the Macbook, e.g., somehow to manually turn off the digital audio switch?
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Got it fixed with a small flathead screwdriver with a fairly wide blade. Opened iTunes, started playing songs, had red light in headphone jack, as per usual with this problem.
    Put screwdriver in jack, with blade more or less vertical, started moving it around inside of jack in clockwise motion, pressing pretty firmly. Took just a couple of "swirls" around the inside of the jack and then audio finally turned on! Was a bit of a hassle, but finally worked.
    Many thanks to all for their suggestions.
    P.S. re. advice not to use metal object. This was the only way I was finally able to solve the problem (i.e., using the small screwdriver). I didn't see where using a metal object would be a problem, seeing as the headphone plug itself is metal. Anyway, it worked.

    so would that be an issue in windows? how do i go about soring it's
    Hmm... by logging on w/ full administrator rights.
    Maybe disabling XP security options totally while installing drivers hel
    ps.
    Also, if you have some realtime protectord like antivirus, etc. you can disable those too. Maybe installing on safe mode helps too. When you disable security it's better if you plug your system out from network.

  • No audio from Line In on my iMac G5

    Hello,
    I have a problem since some time now. I looked for similar topics and nothing seems to match. Here what it is.
    When I plug in a microphone in the line in jack (yes, the correct one, I have a VoIP headset), I don't have any input. I can test for example using the LineIn software (to hear the input on the output), or by recording a track in GarageBand. When I go to the System Preferences, in the Input subsection of the Sound section, if I choose built in microphone, I can visually see there is a signal, and using the previous methods (LineIn and GarageBand), I can confirm it. But whenever I change it to line in, there is no signal, neither is there using the previous methods.
    I checked the Audio Midi Utility settings, everything looks fine. Additionnally, I am (almost) sure it used to work. I am also sure my headset works (I use it on two systems).
    Does anyone have an idea ?

    I have a new Intel Duo and am having this problem.
    I have a similar problem with a standard Dynamic
    Microphone trying to record into Garageband.
    Does a standard microphone not work? I was really
    hoping to avoid buying an extra conector like the
    iMic.

  • No audio from line output or headphone output.

    My MacPro suddenly has no audio coming out the line and headphone outputs. Nothing has changed on the configuration, and I've checked the settings in the Sound preferences.
    I'm hoping there's something easy to fix, but I fear this may require a trip to the repair shop.
    Any suggestions?

    Same here. Weird thing is I have Bootcamp/Windows XP installed and the jacks work fine when booted into windows.

  • Capture Audio from Line-In or Mic (no CaptureDevice)

    Hi,
    I'm trying to capture Audio Data from my SoundCard, but I don't know how to find the correct CaptureDevice (or even ANY CaptureDevice...)
    I'm using JMF 2.1.1 (all-java) this is my test code:
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              try {
                   //Fallback error sound
                   MediaLocator errorSound = new MediaLocator(new File("error.wav").toURL());
                   //Find Capture Device
                   Format captureFormat = new AudioFormat(AudioFormat.LINEAR, 44100, 16, 2);
                   boolean capDevFound = false;
                   CaptureDeviceInfo di = null;
                   Vector deviceList = CaptureDeviceManager.getDeviceList(captureFormat);
                   if (deviceList.size() > 0) {
                        System.out.println("- devices -");
                        for (int i=0; i<deviceList.size(); i++) {
                             di = (CaptureDeviceInfo)deviceList.get(i);
                             System.out.println(di.getName());
                        di = (CaptureDeviceInfo)deviceList.firstElement();
                        capDevFound = true;
                   } else {
                        System.out.println("No Capture Device found");
                   //Playback captured audio or error sound
                   MediaLocator ml = capDevFound
                                         ? di.getLocator()
                                         : errorSound;
                   DataSource ds = Manager.createDataSource(ml);
                   Player pl = Manager.createPlayer(ds);
                   ControllerState playerState = new ControllerState();
                   playerState.exitOnEOM = true;
                   //The Realizer class implements the blocking realize and prefetching I found in the tutorials...
                   Realizer realizer = new Realizer(playerState);
                   pl.addControllerListener(realizer);
                   realizer.realizePlayer(pl);
                   realizer.prefetchPlayer(pl);
                   System.out.println("- start -");
                   pl.start();
              } catch (Exception e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
         }I always get a "no capture device found" and hear my error sound!
    Could a wrong Format in getDeviceList(..) be the reason for this? Or should I better use a native version of JMF instead of the pure java one?
    Any Hints?
    Thanks in advance,
    lupo

    From the JMF javaDocs for CaptureDeviceManager
    public static java.util.Vector getDeviceList(Format format)Gets a list of CaptureDeviceInfo objects that correspond to devices that can capture data in the specified Format. If no Format is specified, this method returns a list of CaptureDeviceInfo objects for all of the available capture devices
    So
    CaptureDeviceManager.getDeviceList(null);
    will return ALL available capture devices - this is as described in SUN code examples & does indeed work
    re
    javax.media.format.AudioFormat
    does not provide a parameterless constructor

  • Audio alone line-out good...Audio w/video line-out weak

    Trying my new 5th gen iPod today on my home audio system.
    Using a 3mm miniplug to the line-out on the Universal Dock, audio by itself is very good, bumping the LCDs on my old Sansui equalizer all over the place.
    Using the same connection and playing back Michael Jackson's Thriller video, the audio is so week that it doesn't even bump up a single LCD. (Note: volume is set to max on the iPod.)
    What gives?
    iMac G4 20-inch flat panel   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   30GB iPod; 60GB iPod, both 5th Gen models

    You might want to right click that file in iTunes and go to get info. Click the options tab. See if adjusting the volume level there and then syncing your iPod helps.

  • Can I export both the Video and Audio from Soundtrack Pro? or just audio?

    I opened a video in STP and added some effects to the audio. But I do not see any video export options??? Can I only export the audio??? How do I add the New audio to the final video???

    Thanks for that Soundaround. I tried to use the encoder option as well, down to an .mp4 file, but the video did not play properly. The source material is HD 1080i .mov and the frame rate was default, set to 100% of original.
    Do you know Why this is? I also tried the same conversion in cocktail and got the same results. Can I only compress down to an HD .mp4? I want to retain normal sync and smooth playback?

  • Audio from itunes not playing through headphones on pc, but to speakers

    Hey everyone just got a used windows Vista laptop a few hours ago that I'm dedicating to my large iTunes library. Only problem is that when I plug my headphones in iTunes continues to play its music through my speakers. The laptop is a HP Pavillion dv6000 with windows vista and I know that the audio jack works because I am able to test it and hear its audio, and the computer shows its audio levels in the sound mannagement window... I'm stuck and don't want to spend forever trying to figure this out because I'm going on vacation this saturday and would like to have this laptop with my library ready to go. Thanks

    Thanks for the suggestion, it's a troubleshooting trick that often works but not in this case.
    I DO like the Zeppelin. Had to send it back to B&W once for the dreaded power-source fix but they did it on their dime so it was no big deal. Also have the mini for our daughter's room and they both serve their purpose well. They can't really replace a "Stereo" but they sound pretty good and are super sexy.
