Soft Skills Training webinar
I apologize in advance if this is not the correct place for this question but I'm not sure where to post it. When will the recording of the webinar "Deep Dive: Effective Soft Skills Training in Adobe Captivate: Part 2" be posted?
Hello Janice,
I really do not have any idea, cannot find it either. Perhaps you can ask Allen tomorrow during the 3rd part?

Soft skills demo - how done?
Hi all,
In CP5, I've been looking at the soft skills demo on the products page (http://www.adobe.com/products/captivate/), lower right, "WHAT YOU CAN DO" Soft Skills Training. On slide 3, what's used to do the little mini slide show? Is this a widget or standard object? Can I get the project file for this project?
Thanks,
LoriFixed it. Just imported it into a blank project and all was
fine. Last time I use an example. -
Hello,
I am just starting out with Adobe Captivate. I am trying to preview the Soft Skills Sample.cp that is included. There is no audio when I preview this file or when I published this file.
What's going on?
Sincerely
MMulderHi Kelly
There are essentially two different ways to "fix" the fuzzy text. If it's a one off, you may add a line or three at the bottom of the Caption. Then configure the bottom line with a bullet. After that, size the caption so you don't see the bullet.
Or, if you want to influence all transparent captions, click Edit > Preferences > Project > SWF Size and Quality and clear the Anti-alias Transparent Captions option.
Keep in mind that this may also be affected by the Windows settings that are configured. Specifically, an option called "font smoothing". If Font Smoothing is enabled on the PC used to edit and publish the Captivate, it also causes another type of Anti-aliasing to occur that is unrelated to what you see in Captivate.

Adobe Captivate Soft Skills elearning demo
Hello Captivators,
I went to the following site about Captivate:
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/logged_in/sfleischer_captivate2.html
Located on this page was an interesting demo on "soft skills"
elearning. What really caught my interest, is part way thru the
demo (2 or 3 slide in or so) was located a button in the upper left
of the captivate view screen, that was labeled "Behind the Scenes".
When this button was clicked, it displayed, rather nicely, some
information and a nice chart/graph of what was happening in the
demo. I was wondering how they accomplished that effect. One click
and the info would show, and click again, and the demo continues
where it left off.
Does anyone know how to implement that type of functionality?
Also is it possible while progressing through a scenario based
elearning exercise, to track what the user's last slide was. Much
like a cookie for a web page, etc??? So if the user would click a
"back" button, it would put the user back on the last slide he or
she was viewing.
Thanks for a good forum,
eholz1
"It's Captivation I know..."Hi eholz1
From what I'm seeing, this is a simple Rollover Image object.
You mouse over and an image the size of the movie displays. Should
be fairly simple to accomplish.

Captivate for Soft Skills?
The short story is that Authorware is officially dead. LAME!
So we need a new authoring environment / publisher for creating
CBTs for CD delivery. Adobe is pushing Authorware users toward
Capitivate and Connect. I know that Captivate does more than screen
capture, but how much and how easily... that's not clear.
We would prefer to build content in Flash and import the .swf
files into a 'publisher' (more or less the same work flow as we
used in Authorware) so we are looking for a tool that will handle
(primarily): • assembly • .exe creathion • user
login / information storage • test creation, tracking and
other metrics • certificate printing. Can anyone inform me on
this?
Thanks in advance!

AZ Supreme CourtAssembly: should be fairly easy, assuming the import of
external SWF
files works well. You just import them to the slide you want
the SWFs to
show on and should be fine...if that's all you need by
'assembly'.
.exe creation: is possible too by selecting the 'Standalone'
publish
setting, which will give you an .exe. I think this is the
Captivate SWF
file 'bundled' with the Flash player? Not sure exactly how
that works.
User login/information storage: if you're using an LMS, not a
problem.
If you're not using an LMS, problem. There are a few threads
about how
to hack Captivate output to record to a standalone database
which may
work. There's an article somewhere on Adobe's site by Andrew
Chemey on
how to do that...
Test creation: no problem, especially with CP3 (apparently)
as there are
more quiz templates available. You won't have the
flexibility that
Authorware provided as you're limited to pre-defined types
(think KO)
but probably fine for most needs.
Tracking: again, to an LMS, no problem...though what you can
track is,
again, limited to what Captivate offers...but you can track
most any
interaction I think. If you want to track to not-an-LMS, see
above.
Other metrics? Probably not, but what do you mean...?
Certificate printing: no way I've seen. That's usually a
function of
the...wait for it...LMS. No LMS, not sure how you'd do it
(maybe use JS
to open a webpage that has a pre-filled Certificate? Not sure
how you'd
pass the user name...)
If you'd like, contact me directly (erik at capemedia dot
net). I've
done work with other state court systems and may have
alternatives to
suggest.

"Flip-book" like image effect in Captivate 5
Hello all ! New to the forum and pretty new to captivate over here ! I just wondered if you could help me with something ! How to make a flip-book like image effect ? There is an example on slide 3 of this Captivate example : http://www.adobe.com/products/captivate/educators/include/softskills_training/modal.html?w idth=752&height=440 Any help would be great ! And.. why is it everytime I press Enter it it drops the whole paragraph instead of making a new line ? Thanks !
I noticed the link doesn't seem to work,http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/captivate/
The presentation I mean is called "soft skills training"
Any help would be great !Hi Scott.
As far as I know, that is not a function built into Cp5. It looks like some kind of flash animation/widget built otuside Captivate and then imported.
If someone else knows otherwise, please chime in. Or if that widget can be downloaded somewhere, I'd love to take a look at it. -
Hi everyone my website is www.oakleytrainingcentre.com
how do add keywords to it, so for example if you type training my website comes up on google search, a guy at my work said you can do it using html codes? plz anyone help
thanksYIKES! The code in your live website is a total mess. You've got <styles> and <scripts> where the doctype <html> and <head> tags should be. There is NO Page Title. You've got malformed tags everywhere. Delete the code from your index page and replace it with this valid code. Use this as a model for your other site pages.

Hi everyone.
Project
I’m helping develop in Flash CS3 an online soft skills
training that involves students viewing a short video than
answering a multiple choice question. After viewing several videos
and answering the related questions the student is given on
overview of how they did in a test summary page.
Delivery
Plan is to have each video and questions in a single Flash
file embedded in an html file. The end test summary page will be
delivered in html.
Question
What I’d like to know is how can I get the flash
video/question pages to communicate the test results to the end
summary page.
I’m not much good at actionscripting, therefore any
help would be much appreciated.
Also, is there anyway of converting a swf file back to a
flash file, (fla)?
Thanks.
Michaelyou'll need to create a dynamic html page if you're
presenting a page that will use data from flash in its display.
flash can't do that.
flash can communicate with server-side programs that can
create your html page.
converting swfs to flas can be done by de-compiling the swfs.
there are several commercial decompilers. i don't know if any of
them can handle as3, though. -
So, I've got people at my company saying Presenter is soooo
much better than Captivate for on-line training and tracking.
Can someone who is familar with both lay out the pros/cons?
Thanks
JimmyI am guessing you are referring to Articulate "Presenter",
and not Adobe Connect "Presenter". The two applications (Adobe
"Captivate 3" and Articulate "Presenter") are pretty much apples
and oranges. The only thing of real note that they have in common
is that they are both e-learning applications. How they go about
accomplishing that general task is so very differently that
point-by-point comparisons are all but impossible unless you get
very very specific about exactly
what you want to create.
If your intended use if to create software demonstrations and
simulations, or photo gallery Flash files, I'd have to give
"Captivate" the nod - without reservation. However, if your
intention is to make use of Power Point features, as in soft-skills
training perhaps, or to use an existing library of Power Point
projects, I would have to say that Articulate "Presenter" is better
designed for that task.
To the question of score and student tracking, both do an
excellent job, but Captivate has no LMS in itself, unless you count
the Adobe "Connect" application as one. Articulate "Presenter" can
be tied directly to Articulate's own servers (Articulate "On-line")
which then gives you built-in and very useful reports on your
training efforts.
In the case of either Captivate or Presenter, the LMS is an
extra cost, and completely separate item. Captivate provides
excellent compatibility with many "standards" such as AICC or
SCORM, in the LMS world. On the other hand, because Articulate
"On-line" is built specifically to accommodate Articulate projects,
they have effectively eliminated issues and worries about whether
the learning module (aka LO, or Learning Object) is "compatible"
with the LMS on which it is being viewed.
Good question, Jimmy, and one that is going to be greatly
dependent on exactly what your LO editor is expected to do. On the
bright side, both products offer 15 - 30 day trial downloads, so
why not give them both a test drive and decide from that
experience?
Best wishes - let us know what you decided, and why, as it
might be helpful to others with the same question.
Larry -
for some odd reason after i publish my project my mouse
cursor is always under my highlight boxes. On all of my slide
timelines my mouse is on the highest layer possible and my
highlight boxes are below it. anyone have any ideas as to why this
is happening? I haven't added anything new to my project, its in
its final state ready to go other then this issue. Thanks in
advance!
btw using version 2!aphexburn, I'm sorry to see that you have given up, but when
reading your last post, a single thought kept resonating with me.
800 slides? Assuming that this wasn't a mistyping and you
really meant 80 slides, I am amazed that you are surprised to have
had trouble!! Astounding!!
To others who might drop by this thread: A Captivate movie is
normally thought of as a project between 40 and 50 slides. Some
very large ones might be as large as 80 to 100, but a project that
size is against best practice. These are not written "standards"
but are recommendations of experts based on thousands of users'
sharing experiences, and the above numbers apply to
all versions.
One of the overlooked reasons for keeping Captivate movies to
a reasonable (shorter) length is because it is easier to go back
and make changes to a 40 slide movie than to a 80 slide movie. It
is easier to find the slide you want to work on, and easier to
apply changes to multiple slides without the "goof" of including
some you didn't mean to change after all (which is why "Apply to
All" can be a fatal trap if not used very carefully).
Another reason is that even if you have a muscle machine with
resources sufficient to save and edit a 100+ slide movie, it often
becomes questionable whether or not your end-user's machine's
resources (and bandwidth) are capable of viewing the finished
product.
Another reason is that the average adult's all-important
"attention span" - or just their available time - is often
stretched with over-long movies, whether demo, application
simulation, or soft-skills training. The average adult can handle
up to seven items at a time in memory, but those items should be
germane to a single point of focus, in order to be of bbest value
in a learning process.
And if 100 slides is generally considered excessive (as a
"norm") what category does 800 slides fall?
Thanks for reading. This point is important to everyone, and
while I don't mean to belittle anyone, I could not remain silent on
this issue and let a single unhappy user mislead others, when all
that might have been required to avoid his or her dissatisfaction
is some basic knowledge about "best practices".
Have a great day everyone! -
Appalling Customer Service, absolutely Rude and impolite !
Mods, This is a feedback from a disgruntled HP customer for a call I got from your Escalation Team. Please move this thread to appropriate location if it does not suits here. I just received a call from HP Escalation team and am very furious by the way the way HP has spoken to me. I found HP ([email protected]) very impolite and rude. This is not the way you talk to your customer. I suggest he goes through a Soft Skill training and is taught how to be courteous and helpful. I have an ongoing issue with my Pavilion G6 which is out of warranty, Iam trying to get back OS as the HDD ernt kaput. Please help me with escalation matirx procedure for Customer Service issue. Being rude to a cusotmer is absoltely unacceptable !!!!
Hi Caesar Thanks for your answer. Can you explain to me why sky staff got involved on this thread then ? http://helpforum.sky.com/t5/Archived-Discussions/Making-a-complaint-to-sky-what-to-expect-and-what-my-actual/td-p/1449027 "The sky guys on the forum are now currently trying to find a solution to getting my account cancelled. I will no doubt post on the forum if the account is finally closed." I've just called the complaints team and they told me they cannot do anything and that I have to speak to the cancellation team ? Is that a joke ? Why is there a complaints team then ?

Metrics for Captivatedevelopment
The company I work for would like me to convert some of our training material from PowerPoint slides to Captivate computer-based training.
Are there any metrics out there for estimating how long Captivate projects will take?
What kind of hourly rates are being charged for developing Captivate training?
Thanks for any light you can shed on these questions.Your two questions are pretty difficult to answer actually.
Development time varies greatly based on the output that you require. For example:
- Is it a Captivate screen recording
- Is it soft skills training
- Do you require a quiz
- Do you require the finished course to be published to an LMS
- Do you need any interactive components in the course
- Do you have all assets already (storyboard, images etc.)
- What is the lenght of the course
- Will there be voice-over
- Whats the developers experience level with Captivate
and many many other factors.
A 20 minute course might take 10 hours to create if it's a simple screen recording without any fancy stuff (menus, custom graphics, custom templates etc.) and it might take 200+ hours if it's a soft skills course with custom templates, interactivity, video, audio etc.
The same goes for the hourly rates. What do you require the vendor to do for you?
Should they create the entire package for you including templates, graphics, integration with LMS, quizzes, etc. or will you be supplying all the assets to the vendor for them to work with?
I doubt that you will be able to find a "standard" hourly rate for developing E-learning content since it varies based on the tasks that needs to be performed. Also - in my experience - I find that most E-learning development contracts are based on an agreed price and not on an hourly basis.

How can I do what is in Captivate demo - M&S example
On the Adobe Captivate 5 site it shows 4 examples of how it has been used including a soft skills training demo for M&S.
http://www.adobe.com/products/captivate/professionals/
On page 3 of this demo there is a a flickbook of images, where the user can click forward and back to swap between pictures.
How can I achieve this in my own Captivate project?
is there a widget required? if so where can I get it?
or is this something I cant achieve without another program?Hello,
Perhaps it could be done with effects, but I do have the impression that those animations were created in Flash.
