Soft synths being distributed amongst cores

Hi all,
I'm thinking of upgrading my 2.0 dual core (5 years old) with a new MP. I mainly use the machine for Logic 8. Not heavy recording, but a lot of powerful soft synths.. One of them being "Omnisphere" and the BFD 2 Drum program. Right now I only see one core working when I'm playing the drums (which can be processor heavy with all of the velocity layers and such). Is there a way to distribute that load over both of my cores? If so that would be great and would allow me to save a bit more while still being able to play without core overloads and/or cpu spikes...
Next question is if I bought a new MP what would you suggest I would need to track multiple instances of these programs and play them back without interruption? Do the newer macs utilize more cores for this kind of thing or are they still dedicated for certain things?

I appreciate all the suggestions so far. I am definitely going to try them to see if any of these help, but I suspect they will not.
Here are my suspicions / reasons why:
1. When Logic is using MIDI data internally (ie. data that is on actual Logic tracks) it knows - before I even hit play - what voices to expect, and how to intelligently map out its resources. It is basically pre-buffering all the data to be used, and mapping voices accordingly.
2. When Logic is using MIDI data externally (ie. data that is coming from an external sequencer, or live keyboards) it has no idea what to expect on what channel, and cannot map out voices in advance.
It is therefore lumping ALL the voices of ALL incoming data onto a SINGLE processor core. It is trying to play ALL the Ivory voices, ALL the Kontakt voices, ALL the Omnisphere voices, ALL the Stylus RMX voices, etc etc from just ONE core of an 8-core machine.
I think it would be better (under these circumstances) if different instrument tracks could be pre-assigned to different cores, even if this had to be done manually, thus giving the user full autonomy over the distribution of CPU resources.
It would essentially be like having a "Live Mode" for Logic. I guess that's what they were trying to achieve with Mainstage, but the interface is too dumbed-down and not as flexible as Logic, and the pre-allocation of cores for certain tracks is not possible either. I don't even know if Mainstage distributes the load across multiple cores, as the CPU meter cannot be expanded like in Logic.

I understand the inspiration you get from getting new toys all too well. What I can tell you is that you can get that same inspiration from VI's as you can from buying actual hardware. I've gone through it, too. The first time I heard a demo of Absynth I had to have it! I bought it and the tutorial DVD and I don't use it as much as I should. Same goes with the East West Symphonic Orchestra stuff I have. Are they all useful? Sure. But, over the course of the last couple of months, my inspiration has been gained from going back into the core sounds of Logic and what it has to offer. I used to scoff at the ES1 since I had the ES2 available to me, but now I use it for almost everything. Even the default sound of the ES1 with all kinds of effects layered on top of it sounds awesome and it really gets your brain going with ideas of "I wonder what this would sound like if I added this effect?" or "I wonder what would happen if I changed the order of these effects on the strip?"
There's nothing wrong with adding stuff to your arsenal. Every musician needs a pallette to choose from. But, you can certainly save yourself some much needed cash if you need to just by digging deep into Logic's soft-synths and getting your muse from there.
That being said, all of Native Instruments' stuff sounds incredible. The main problem, however, is that some of their stuff is touchy. I've never had problems with my Absynth, but I have stayed away from Kontakt (even though I desire it immensely) because of horror stories I have heard and read. The thing with any of NI's presets is that they've already done all the dirty work for you. You can get the same quality sounds out of Logic's plugs if you play around enough. Then you learn something in the process, too!

Recording Stand-alone Soft Synths & Virtual Instruments in Audition 3

Hi People,
Have a little problem which I'm struggling to figure out.
I have been using Cool Edit Pro for several years. My set up has always enabled me to record any standalone Software Synths via my sound card. I have always had it set up so my sound card plays through patch one and records through another patch enabling me to record in the multi track editor with no problems at all and my set up records only the soft synth/instrument, and not any waves previously recoded. Instead just plays them back so I can build up my music and play along at any given time. Although this is a rather different approach to doing things, it suites me down to the ground and I'm happy to create this way
My problem has come upon whilst trying out the new Adobe Audition 3, which is based around ASIO Drivers. Because of this I can no longer run another program (Stand alone soft synth), because Adobe hogs the ASIO driver and will not allow another program to be run at the same time. I can use the Adobe windows driver for audition no problems and I am able to continue recording how I did with Cool Edit, but I would much prefer to go along with auditions ASIO drivers to make sure I am recording with the best quality and reliability.
My Sound card is an E-MU 1616 with breakout box. I have tried numerous ways with the patch mixer to get around this, for example I have tried using my sound cards driver for audition and ASIO4ALL2 for my soft synths. One of which is Hypersonic 2, and the other being SampleTank. I cannot for the life of me get my set up and running how it was with cool edit.
I must admit that although I have played around with my settings, it could be something simple I need to do that just hasn't jumped out at me yet. My evaluation of Audition 3 runs out in 20 days and I'm almost sure that there is a way to enable my set up to work how I want it to before I can go out and buy Audition 3. I'm very comfortable with audition 3, naturally. I love the changes and extra features it has now along from the cool edit days.
I have looked into other solutions as well after scouring message boards, one of which was Cycling 74 Soundflower, this sounded like it could be an answer but unfortunately it is Mac only. If Adobe did Audition for Mac then I wouldn't hesitate in going down that route...
My other solution is to have a second computer, either a modified mid range P C, or even a Mac, to act as my synth station and have my various software synths and such running on there and playing out to my recording PC with Audition on. This would free up the ASIO to be used by Audition solely. It's a long way around but wouldn't cost the earth and would be a simple enough idea to set up. But surly, I shouldn't need to go this far out to get my ideal setup.
Anyhow, I would much appreciate any advice and ideas to help me solve this problem; I will keep working at it in the mean time.
Hope my explanation makes sense above, I can appreciate that there are other ways like just going along with another program and such, but in all honesty I like the way I work and don't really want to move on, I'm more bothered about just getting on and recording new ideas in the environment I'm so use to. I love the way Cool Edit/Audition works for me and I have developed my own methods with the software over the years. Working with just audio suits me to the ground as I record and chop up my own Guitar bass and drums, along with sounds from my field recorder and a host of other methods and ideas.

As long as your softsynths comes in the VSTi format (most of them do now), you can insert it on a track in Audition, which has 'host' capabilities from V3.
In the Multitrack, insert a new MIDI track from the 'Insert' menu (note: MIDI Track, not just 'MIDI').
On that track pane hit the 'Sequencer' button, and it will open in a separate window. In the pane left of the keyboard you can insert your VSTi of choice, and make your MIDI connections.
Back on the Main track pane, engage the 'L' button for Live monitoring. Actual recording (of MIDI) is done in the Sequencer window.
The usual, and recommended workflow is to keep the MIDI tracks 'open', i.e. you can edit the sound in your instrument and even the notes played at any time in the process, compiling the actual audio as the last step in the mixing.
If you kind of 'insist' on doing it the old way, you can export the audio from your recorded MIDI+VSTi creations track by track like this: Leave the Sequencer window open, make a selection in the multitrack that covers the time span you have played. Solo the track (will mute all others), and use File / Export Audio Mixdown. Use 'Master' as the source. This will give you a wave rendering of what's currently in the MIDI sequencer. Qualitywise this is better since it's all internal and digital instead of in/out of soundcards with DA/AD conversion etc.
I haven't found a method for a 'live' wave recording while you play, but there may be one...
If you purchase Audition it comes with Help files explaining this in more/better detail. ;)

Best Soft Synth for Film Score...

What's the best Soft Synth for Film Scoring. Not the Orchrestral stuff but the more contemporary stuff that you hear in the top TV shows etc. Thanks

Linplug Albino 2 and 3 is probably the best bread'n'butter preset synth there is. If you're not happy with the Rob Papen presets that's included you should definetly check out some of the extra presets that Linplug sells on their site.
Atmosphere is wonderful aswell, but seeing as it's samplebased Albino will dance circles around it in terms of routing and sound possibilities.
Albino 3 is rather heavy on the cpu though (probably uses atleast 2x oversampling), so I usually go for ver2 atleast until I've upgraded my Logic computer.

How do I find 3rd party soft synths in logic_pro 8?

I have just purchased Korg Legacy Digital Edition M1, Wavestation, MDE X, Soft synths & effects, It seams to have installed ok but i can't get it to show up in a logic project when I add a new track, then search for the synth as an instrument plug in.
The korg folder is in Applications, and not in the main music folder like logic, itunes, garage band etc.
I can find the korg folder ok but can't access the instruments as they are greyed out.
The two synths work fine when used in stand alone. Perhaps I should have chosen custom install to make sure they were installed as audio units for plug in use?
I checked the logic manual about 3rd party plug ins and checked the audio units validation list under preferences/audio units manager and only apple plug ins showed up, no sign of korg synths...
I didn't click scan and reset as I'm not sure if I should.
The korg synths are the only 3rd party products that I have installed on the Mac.
Hopefully it's just a simple procedure that lm not following and a little advice is all I require to resolve my problem.
The korg user group web site said the don't support my syncrosoft license version any more so there were no updates upon installation, perhaps I have purchased a product at the end of its shelf life?

I am getting ERROR: "document being distributed no changes not possible" & WARNING:"BTadminH could not be locked" in CRM WEBUI while trying to edit the order.
I checked all the BDOCs and smq1, smq2 ,smw01 here are no queues stuck here.
I also run distribution check FM, whenever i run it will be unlocked and able to edit. but this is not the solution for me because this error and warning getting to every new order (transaction) .

I have an issue when making a quotation transaction. After i saved the quotation transaction, i would like to change the window into edit mode.
So i have to click the display or change button and then after i click that button, there is an message text   "<b>Document is being distributed - changes are not possible</b>" but after i wait for some minute, system still can not be change. and still appearing a message text "Document is being distributed - changes are not possible"
Please could u give some information about this issue?

The order in the CRM system remains in status 'to be distributed'
because it waits for an answer of the OLTP system that the order has
been successfully saved.
The reason could be due to the following:
1. Check in your system the delta download is active ? Did you perform
   an initial download of SALESDOCUMENTS ?
   If you check in transaction R3AC4 there must be an entry for
   SALESDOCUMENT to enable a successfull delta download.
   Without a successful initial download of this object, no delta
   download will be performed. Please refer to the SETUP AND
   DOWNLOAD guide you will find in the service market place

2. Check if there are any ABAP Dumps related in OLTP ? If yes, status
   will always be in distributed as CRM is still waiting for a reply
   from OLTP.
3. Check your inbound/outbound queues are working.

please somebody throw me a bone....i need to start from the BEGINING here!
where can i find a beginers guide telling me everything i need to know ...step by step ....how to configure and use the creative built in SOFT SYNTH....is there a control panel or something ?

Try this work-flow:
In Editor, go to the expert tab.
Open picture B, the one you wish to select something from to add to another picture.
Use one of the selection tools, e.g. selection brush, lasso tool, to select the object. You will see an outline ("marching ants") surrounding the selection once it is complete
Go to Edit menu>copy to copy the selection to the clipboard
Open picture A, then go to Edit>paste
Use the move tool to position object from picture B.
In the layers palette you should see picture A as the background layer, and object B on a separate layer.

Using one controller for two Soft Synths

Hey guys,
Does anyone know how to use one MIDI controller to play two soft synths? In particular, I would like to use the bottom half of the controller's range to play one instrument, and the top half to control another. Any suggestions?

Sounds easy enough. All you need to do is split your controller, and send each range of keys to a separate MIDI channel. Then, set each of the sounds you want to control to only receive MIDI from that channel and record enable both tracks.
I think there's a way to set this up in the environment too.

Document is being distributed

Hello All,
We have a scenario in CRM & R/3 where when a "Complaints" document is created in CRM a corresponding order is created in R/3. We have done the required configuration.
The generated Bdoc is successful and shows a green light, however the queue seems to be stuck somewhere, which is why the message "Document is being distributed" is being displayed, if any further change is tried on this doc. We have checked the queues, the Bdoc statuses, tried resending the Bdocs (no error logs are generated), also we have tried implementing the note 718065 ( as specified in the related threads on SDN)...but still do not have any positive results.
We are still not able to see a corresponding Idoc on the R/3 side.
Can someone help us with this.

when a Sales_Document Bdoc (which is used for Complaints as well) is send from CRM to R/3 there are no IDoc in R/3 created.
Did you ever perform a (dummy) download of Sales Documents Bdoc (SALESDOCUMENT) from R/3 to CRM? If not, please do so.
This is to enable the Delta-Download from R/§ to CRM. When uploading a Complaint from CRM to R/3 the Bdoc is waiting in CRM to receive a success message. Until than the complaints remains in status "being distributed". But the success message is only send from R/3 to CRM when the Delta-Load from R/3 to CRM is active.

So i have a package ABC being distributed to site 01. When I check the sender log it is showing it is distributing multiple version of ABC. is this possible? Should it not distribute latest version only?
In process sending SWD package ABC version 2 to site 01, current completion ratio = 19 percent.
In process sending SWD package ABC version 3 to site 01, current completion ratio = 1 percent.
In process sending SWD package ABC version 4 to site 01, current completion ratio = 1 percent.

Did you edit the package when the content distribution hasn't finished?
I just distributed a package to a DP, then edited the package when it was still in progress. From my sender.log, it continued distributing package version 1 and started to send version 2.
So I think it is the way of SCCM worked.

I had previously tried all of the above but the airport/wireless thought. Unfortuneately, none of these things made a difference, including the wireless suggestion.
Currently, I am using my Mac's "cheapo" internal audio hardware (haha). I have a one year old 27-inch iMac, a good pair of bose speakers, and a polk sub. I don't believe it is an issue with my setup, considering I completely disconnected and unplugged it.
I did, however, do a little info hunting on the internal audio situation, since I was curious what is actually included, and I stumbled upon this interesting little tidbit about my model of iMac:

I had previously wondered if I was hearing my mouse in my speakers as well (not just in logic). It appears that this model of iMac may have some grounding issues, as someone later in the thread suggested purchasing and using a ground loop isolator, which seemed to fix any extra interference for them.
Ironically though, I have since opened logic, and do not seem to be encountering my previous static issue(yet).
Fingers crossed, hoping that I will not be experiencing it again. Going to purchase a ground loop isolator, and continue to mess around with logic, just to make sure it was not just an internal audio issue with my iMac.

I checked SMQ1 and SMQ2. But, no ques found for that Order.

HT1935 "Disk is too slow or System Overload-" Only 1 soft synth in project

I am getting the message "Disk is too slow or System Overload…" message when trying to playback in Logic Pro 9.1.8. This happens with only one soft synth plug in within any project. I am running Lion 10.7.5 on my Early 2011 13" Macbook Pro, upgraded to 8GB of RAM. This happened before I upgraded the RAM too.
I have checked all of my Logic preferences and they're set to what Apple suggest to keep CPU usage in check.
I have tried turning off my "Motion Sensor" and it still happens, so I don't think it's that.
If someone could advise me on what might be causing this I'd be very grateful.

new to logic express.... trying to select my soft synths like arturia cs80 and native absynth. these show up in the audio units manager screen, but i don't know how to select these in a track.
please advise, any help is appreciated

In the Software Instrument channel strip, click-hold on an Input slot, then choose your instrument plugin from the menu.
Note: this works on Instrument tracks only, so make sure you have an instrument track (coz input menu for an audio track would look different and ask you to choose from available audio inputs).
Reading the Manual about basic operations in Logic may be also helpful.
