Softproof in Lightroom different from Photoshop

Hi all, I've just recieved a print from Photobox. It looks ace, except for a big band in the sky graduation. Stupidly I hadn't looked on the web site to see if they had a colour profile before sending . As it happens they do, and softproofing the image in Photoshop CS5.1 I can see the same band. However I work in Lightroom (4), so wanted to make any changes there, but when I turn on soft proofing with the same colour profile I get a completely different result, and one that doesn't match the print. Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be much appreciated.
Jez
Here's a comparison:
Lightroom:
Photoshop:

Leaving soft proof out of it for now, do you see any differences between Lr and Ps with the same image? They should be absolutely identical, since they're both fully color managed and convert from source profile to monitor profile.
So next question then becomes if your monitor is calibrated and how? Recalibrating is always the first step in troubleshooting.
Differences can happen if there's a problem with either profile (source or monitor). This is because the source is different. In Lightroom it's linear gamma ProPhoto, in Photoshop it's the document profile whatever it is (sRGB, Adobe RGB, ProPhoto). So the conversion itself, or transform as some like to call it, is different.
By extension I suppose it could also happen if there's a problem with the proof profile. Try a different one.
BTW sky blue is a very sensitive color to profile issues, and problems are easily seen there. It's usually very near the gamut boundary in both sRGB, Adobe RGB and monitor profiles, with the red channel very near zero. So the exact position of the red primary (which varies a lot between most monitors on one hand and sRGB or Adobe RGB on the other) makes an obvious difference.

  • File displaying different from Photoshop to Illustrator

I have a simple chalkboard background I made in Photoshop and I'm importing into Illustrator. My issue is the file displays completely different from Photoshop to Illustrator. See image below.
I've had this happen to other files but this one is so incredibly different, I can't understand what's happening and I can't manage the design with it being this different. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Rachel

Thanks again Monika. I can't figure this out. The color management is all synchronized among all my Adobe applications. Yes the file is in layers and when I view the JPG in Photoshop, it looks as it should. It's only when I bring it into Illustrator does it look like that. I opened up a new Illustrator doc and placed the same JPG (as well as dragged the PSD file directly from the Photoshop window into Illustrator) and it looks better and more like it should. My other doc was a new doc too so I'm not sure what happened. At any rate, I can't explain what happened and I'm just hoping it doesn't happen again.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Why do the colors appear different from photoshop when I place a picture in indesign?

I am new to indesign, and photoshop for that matter. But when I place a picture in indesign the color looks completely different from what it was in photoshop. Is this just a display issue or will it print with the wrong color?

You have a profile mismatch. Make sure the document and PS file's assigned profiles match. If you are not assigning color profiles then the Working Spaces in Color Settings have to match.

  • How can I import files into Lightroom 3 from Photoshop elements 8?

I just installed Lightroom 3 and bypassed the option to import my pics from Photoshop elements 8 (to see what other options were available). Lightroom advanced a page and there seems to be no way to return to the previous page, I've closed the page & reopened a few times.
I cannot locate where PSe8 stores it's files either so that is not an option. How do I reset lightroom to import my old files? Thank you.
I also see "upgrade files" but have no idea what this means & don't see an explanation; a simple definition would be great. Thanks again!

Thanks Beat,  I first had to make up a name for a new group then it opened Lightroom so I could do as you suggested - sucess!

I also see "upgrade files" but have no idea what this means & don;t see it explained; seems users are to already know the software before buying it.  Thanks again!
BTW, I have tried to avoid posts in the past with my other software so not sure how I will receive the reply - assume I'll get an email.

Thanks for your guidance, I had no idea what SDK is & only noticed Lighhtroom so picked it.

  • In Camera Picture different from Photoshop

    Hi,
Sorry if I am being dim, I have searched and can't find an answer. I have done a shoot in RAW using a D300 and now when I am trying to edit them in CS3 they look completely different than in camera - and not in a good way! I have experimented with WB, image settings, RAW defaults and pretty much every other slider/button I can find in RAW however I can't get the image to look the same as it does in camera.
Is there any way to get the incamera information to transpose across to CS3?
    Thankyou

Update Camera Raw to 4.6 (either by running Adobe Updater, or by downloading the Update from the Adobe website). Then download the new camera profiles from here: http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/DNG_Profiles#Downloads_and_Installation
Once you've done all that, and restarted Photoshop/Bridge, load a raw file into Camera Raw, select the Camera Calibration tab, and select Camera Standard or one of the other new profiles listed. They are equivalent to Nikon's Picture Controls.

  • Is Photoshop Premier Elements 11 different from Photoshop Elements 11?

I downloaded Photoshop Premier Elements 11 but when I typed in my serial number from my cd box it said it isn't associated with it? My box says Adobe Photoshop Elements 11, are there 2 different versions?

This is actually the wrong forum, but I do know that Premiere Elements, and Photoshop Elements, were sold as a packaged box set.  I suspect that the box will have had two serial numbers though.  Do the two apps come on a single disk, or two?  Are there serial numbers on the actual disk?  Perhaps there is a second serial number on the disk case?

  • Colors in viewer different from Photoshop?

When I view my images in the viewer the colors appear flat and are not as rich as when I open the image in photoshop. I cannot figure out why there is this discrepancy? I would like the images in the viewer to match what I am seeing when I send the image to photoshop.
    Any help appreciated.

    1. Are you using a calibrated monitor?
    2. Have you accidentally turned on soft proofing in Aperture? View>Onscreen Proofing.

  • Colors in acrobat different from photoshop/indesign

In Photoshop I use a 'Europe Prepress 3' color setting for my images. In Indesign I use the same color settings. 'Europe Prepress 3' for RGB and Coated FOGRA 39 (ISO 12647-2:2004). The image looks the same in Photoshop as it does when placed in an Indesign document. Then I create the pdf through Indesign. When I open the pdf document in Acrobat the image looks more red than in Photoshop/Indesign. In Acrobat I've also got the exact same color settings in its preferences. Why does the girl's face on the photo look much more red in the pdf file while in Acrobat than when opened in Photoshop or viewed while placed in an Indesign document? When I open the pdf in Photoshop it looks ok again. I've got the exact same color management settings in Acrobat, Photoshop and Indesign. So what's wrong with  Acrobat?

Ok, I thought using the same color management settings as in Photoshop/Indesign should make it look the same. Is there any point at changing that in Acrobat then?

  • Why are printer managed color prints different from Photoshop managed color prints using the same color profile?.

I'm using Photoshop 13.0.1, Windows 7, to print images using custom color profiles made with an XRite colorimeter.  However, when I print the image using Printer Manages Color, it is not the same as Photoshop Manages the colors and selecting the Canon ICC profile that (Canon 7200 MP2) that is the same as the printer managed settings.  Why are these prints not the same if the same color profile is being accessed??

    Hi WA Veghe,
    >First: DO synchronize, makes sure you have the same profile settings and color mange settings.
I don't seem to be able to synchronize between CS4 (Photoshop) and CS3 (Indesign).
It seems I have to do without synchronizing..
    >I do not seem to find HOW you are diplaying images on you screen: with Soft proofing?
What happens if you soft proof in Photoshop and InDesign on screen: View > Proof colors. Do you proof with the same profiles, both simulate paper and black on?
I can simulate Proof Colors (working CMYK), but not simulate Paper, both in Indesign and Photoshop.
Problem is: SAME settings in Photoshop and Indesign BUT the image displayed in Photoshop is brighter and more saturated.
So which image should I correct after?
    thanks for all help

    Lightroom 2: v2.7

    Hello All.
I am at a lost with this issue which has only started in the last month or so on two different computers.
I am unable to print any doucments from Photoshop or Lightroom to any o my printers. All other applications print just fine to all printers. No error messages, the print job just nevers gets to the print drivers. I can print the documents by saving to the desktop and dragging the desktop file to the printer 'print queue' window.
I have spent the last week searching online for a solution, but can't seem to find one.
    Any assistance grately appreciated.

It's important to keep in mind that the picture files are NOT stored in the Organizer. They are not stored in Lightroom or Bridge either...
The organizer is based on a catalog which stores the pictures properties, mainly the location of the pictures on your drive(s). It's the same idea of catalogs in Lightroom, and the nice thing is that Lightroom can convert organizer catalogs to its own format. The most obvious way for you will be to use Lightroom.
Bridge is a file browser which is a different way than to use catalogs.

  • Lightroom 2 from Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0

I plan to install Lightroom 2 on a Windows 7 PC and move all my photos from an old XP machine with Photoshop Album 2.0.  The old photos are organized in folders extensively.  Any tips on how to do this with the least aggravation and get things reorganized best?  (Or would another Adobe program be easier for migration from Photoshop Album 2.0?)  I hope to share the new photo collection on Windows 7 with 3 different users on the same PC. Thanks for any tips.

I partially agree and partially disagree with dj-paige.
The first thing that i do after importing my photos into PSE or into Lightroom, is to tag my photos. I have more than 30'000 cataloged photos and they are all tagged. Tagging the photos is essential to me, because the tags helps me a lot to find/search-for photos; Tags are without doubts an essential organization tool.
However after tagging my photos, the next thing that i typically do, is to organize my new photos into one or more Collections (typically one Collection per subject). Organizing my photos into Collections allow me to show, see, edit/develop my photos in the sequence of my choice. This sequence is often
    -  the sequence in which i will wish to show/see my photos
    -  or the sequence in which I will wish to edit/develop my photos (typically, the most similar photos, adjacent to each other in the sequence of the Collection - this is often not the chronological shoot sequence).
I understand that not every PSE or Lightroom user wishes to do the same as I do and that not every PSE/Lr user cares much about Collections. But for me, Collections are an essential organization tool.
