Software after firmware updates

I replaced my first week 02 iMac i7 but while I had it here it ran an application named ActivInspire 3 nicely. My new week 06 iMac that had the firmware updates factory installed will not run the program. I have tried (twice) to download a new version and reinstalled but neither attempt changed the result. It just will not boot on the new machine. Strange. Everything else works fine of course. Any thoughts?

Your program might have an incompatibility with the changes Apple made to the graphic card firmware and display firmware. Here is what I suggest for troubleshooting:
1. Check the software publisher's website for updates or news about iMac i7 compatibility
2. Create a new user account with Administrator privileges on your iMac. Uninstall and reinstall the program from this account. Then try running the program.
3. Open Disk Utility and repair the permissions on your HD
4. Do a "Get Info" on the application. If it is a PowerPC program (check the "Kind" field), make sure the "Open using Rosetta" box is checked. If it is a Universal or Intel program, make sure the Rosetta box is UNchecked.

Restoring after firmware update - Ways :)

Hi All,
Nowadays we are receiving quite a few complaints that customers are unable to restore the application after updating their firmware. I would like all to discuss to come up with some ways to restore their applications after firmware update.
Before updating firmware
Customer can backup his phone using Nokia PC Suite's Content Copier application.
He can store his Contacts and Messages using Nokia Communication Centre as .csv file or .txt file.
For his Contacts he can sync with pc suite supported sync applications.
Messages he can store in Memory card and he can make a backup of memory card in PC.
If he is using Nokia PC Suite for his Multimedia items he can use Image Store if he is using Nokia PC Suite or Nokia Photos if he is using Nokia OVI Suite.
For Music he can use Nokia Music Manager or Nokia Music.
Once after updating his firmware, if he is unable to restore he can get those from above said applications.
If his calendar entries are not restored(as in case of some of Nokia e 71s and Nokia N 95/95 8 GBs), for God's sake if he has got one more similar device(or device having switch application on phone), he can restore the backup file to another phone having switch application, then he can transfer his data (Contacts, Calenders etc ) to his original phone

If you have issue in Nokia PC Suites, [subject to your phone's compatibility with Nokia OVI Suite 2.0.0.10 ],
you can install Nokia OVI Suite 2.0.0.10 and check if you can take backup and restore it later.
Also i would suggest to use USB for taking backup, since it will be faster than Bluetooth. Also you can select one category at one time(say backup contacts alone, then Calendar, then messages etc and so on ....)
Its better to skip memory card backup while backup-ing other Phone data for faster backup. Memory card backup can be done separtely(since it wont be affetcted while updating firmware, users can safely remove memory card while updating firmware)
Nowadays though recent phones has got UDP(User Data Prevention i.e., even if you update your phone's firmware, your data wont get erased ), still it is recommended to backup your phone data.

Problems after firmware update 52.0.007

I got my phone back after the shop fixed a problem and updated the firmware to the latest version 52.0.007.
But now I have following problems:
I can't get the calendar anymore to show up on the homescreen, even after checking the checkbox to do so
The Radio app. is gone
Does anyone has a solution for this?

It may sound crazy but sometimes you need to "hard reset" device after firmware update (beware all data erased) by keying in *#7370# followed by 12345 (default Nokia lock code unless altered by yourself). Sometimes UDP = User Data Prersevation feature of 5800XM can carry over corrupt entries when updating.

Apple does not usually provide updates via CDs to individuals. However, if you were to pop down to the Cincinnati Apple store with a blank CD, they'd probably help you get the updates. Or you could just use their own free Wi-Fi network to download the updates directly to your MacBook.

Ovi Maps 3 don´t start after firmware update (6220...

a few days ago I installed ovi maps 3 on my nokia 6220c and it works well. Later I updated the firmware from version 03.06 to 05.15.
After firmware update ovi maps don´t start-> "Cannot open application. Install latest version from nokia.com/maps."
But Nokia Map Updater says, there are no updates for my maps.
What´s wrong?
Can I reinstall Ovi Maps 3? Or is it possible to install Ovi Maps 3 new?

The Map Updater said: "there is no update for your phone" ...because maps 3 is already installed.
But in the meantime I have found a solution!!
I downloaded maps 2.0 from the German nokia page and installed it. Later I started Map Updater and could update to Maps 3 and now it works!!!
I think the problem was: I first updated to Maps 3 and later updated the firmware. There was any older version of fixes included in the firmware update, so Maps 3 was damaged...

N73: restore doesn't work after firmware update

Hello!
I just made a firmware update to my N73 with NSU, and the procedure completed with no errors.
Just before the update I made a backup with the application in the phone menu; the app wrote a backup.arc file in the MMC.
After the update I tried to restore the backup via the same app.
Here's the problem: the app seems to work (but the "restore" lasts just 1-2 seconds), the phone reboots, but nothing is restored.
Googleing aroung I found a solution: buy the Noki 1.7 software, extract SMS, contacts and files from the backup.arc, and put everything back on the phone...
Is there another solution that doesn't involve buying this 3rd party software?

After Firmware update for my 5th gen ipod computer no loger recognizes ipod

I updated the firmware for my ipod (a pop up informed my after connecting my ipod that a firmware update was available) waited 20-30 minutes my ipod stayed lit with the "do not disconnect screen" After it rebooted itself -accordingly to part of the update's description. THe ipod never showed up on the ipod dock again nor on my computer's desktop. There are no longer any ipod tab is missing in the itunes prefs as well. I went to disk util -NOTHING- My computer no longer recognizes the ipod -not even as a generic drive. Ive tried different usb ports no dice. Tried the reset on my ipod, tried rebooting my computer several times. I am running the latest version of Itunes 7.01. I purchased my ipod and computer around (last April or May). HELP!

Is there a solution to play music from my iPod touch on my Sony Home Theater System DAV HDX 287WC after recent firmware/software upgrade? However, I am still able to play music through my ipod classic, but I am really missing the the functionality of the iPod touch with my home theater system.

Epson won't print after firmware update

Epson 400 printer worked fine on Airport from Mac 10.6.8 until an Airport firmware update to 5.6.1. Can print from printer utility -- but not from any software. Printer does get the message. Then pauses and when questioned returns "empty print file." Printer has wifi access okay. Have reset printer to no avail. I have sharing selected. But as in one of the other answers -- do not have a computer 'named'. Needless to say, I do NOT appreciate Apple updates that ruin connections and make complicated restarts necessary.

Heads up all -- after reading assorted similar chats -- I went to the Epson printer's webpage via Printer Utilities and selected Update Firmware -- it did connect with Epson, updated and I was able to print a Word file. Guess I should have tried that first.

Early 2011 Macbook external display issues after firmware update

I have a 2011 MBPro 15". After performing the firmware update in late April, I have continual issues when I connect my monitor. The screen is blank and I can move the mouse tap the keyboard etc. The display may come up for a scond and then it will close and the machine goes back to sleep. More wiggling and the process starts over.
If I raise the lid it may bing up the external display. Restarting is the only sure fix.
I also was unable to make a presentation today because the projector I was connected to would not show the MBP display.
I tried all the key combinations, detect display etc. and nothing.
Can I somehow go back to the prior firmware? Other solutions?

I recently did a software update to my MacBook pro and had a similar issue, on restart it gets to the apple logo then just shuts off, after multiple hours on the phone with apple care they told me that it was coincidence that it happened at the same time as the update and it would be costly to repair as it was either something to do with display or logic board. I took my MacBook into my retail location I bought it from and was told that they have had MULTIPLE people bring in macbooks with the SAME issue (I live in a really small city so the amount of people is quite large proportion wise) and that they could fix the issue by remotely resetting the MacBook at a cost of $130-$150. Relatively cheap considering what I was fearing, but if this is a common problem related to Apples update why are we paying to fix it and why is apple support saying its something major???
