Software compatibility- Canon IR2020 and Parallels

Hi guys,
I updated to ML yesterday but I had to downgraded becouse of two problems:
I coudn´t print with my Canon IR2020 photocopy & printer, ML said the software wasn´t compatible.
Parallels 6 for Mac, did the same.
I have a MacBook Pro,
Procesador 2,2 GHz Intel Core i7
What I bought summer 2011.
The printer is quit important to my job, with the parallels I think I have to update the version (easy)
Any idea?
Thanks

Check updates, Apple just released Canon Printer driver updates.  HP printers as well.
Parallels 6 for Mac, did the same.
Parallels 6 is not compatible.  Need to upgrade to the
latest version of Parallels.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • I have macbook pro w existing iPhoto library. Now have Canon printer and loaded Canon software for same. Cannot access iPhoto library from Canon software, but prints fine from iPhoto. How can I use iPhoto library w Canon software?

I have a macbook pro w exisitng iPhoto library. I now have Canon printer and loaded Canon software for same. I cannot access iPhoto library for use from Canon software. I can print from iPhoto directly to new printer without problem. How can I use iPhoto library with Canon software? I would like to try the software to see which I prefer...

Simply export some photos from iPhoto to a folder on the desktop and experiment.
Without telling us even what this program is, not to mind what it does, that's the best anyone can suggest.

  • Software Compatability and Mac Model

When Apple lists software compatibility it references computers by year like "early 2011" yet in About My Mac the model identifier is something like this: MacPro5,1.  Why not use this readily accessable reference?  Is there any way to figure out what year my Mac was manufactured?

    JSAM wrote:
All of these replys are great and I have used them to determine which Mac model I have but they still beg the question.  Why does Apple refer to year, such as "early 2008" rather than model identifier that you can just look up in About This Mac.  Why do we have to jump through hoops just to find out which Mac they are talking about.
    Thanks for all the replys.
Apple uses the now readily available year reference that you can find in About This Mac.

  • MacBook Pro and Studio 2 + other software compatibility

I wanted to buy a Macbook Pro 17" because I need to run the latest software for Studio 2 and the new Photoshop CS3 + latest version of After Effects, and I'm also never home so I can't buy a mac that's a tower like a g5.
I was told that it was a bad idea because the macpro needs a translation program to run these softwares because of the dual core processors. Can someone shed some light into this? Is it a bad idea to buy macbook pro for heavy video post production on this latest software?

All current Apple software and Adobe CS3 software products will run natively on the current MBPs so there's nothing to worry about. Just be sure to go with 4GB RAM and the largest and fastest drive you can get your hands on.

  • Current software compatibility for the MBP's?

I dug around thru the site, but can't quite tell what atypical software can run on the Pro. Can Rhino or any other modeling programs that traditionally run on PC's work with the Intel core?
Any insight would be appreciated before I release 3+ grand back into the Apple.
    best, carne

When you receive your MBP, it will be loaded with the Macintosh Operating System. If you would like to ALSO add to it Windows, you will need to download and install BootCamp which will provide the following:
    * Assist the user in repartitioning their hardrive from its default configuration which only has ONE partition (For Mac OS) to TWO partitions (One for MAC, one for Windows)
    * It also provides the user with the required Windows Drivers to properly support the MBP (display drivers, sound drivers, etc). Without these drivers you will not be able to take advantage of the features of your MBP under Windows.
    * Once you have used BootCamp and installed Windows, you will have the choice during bootup to boot EITHER into Windows, or into MacOSX.
    * BootCamp is currently a separate download, but I have come to understand that it will be integrated as part of the next major release of OSX. Currently it is considered a Beta offering.
Lastly, Parallels allows you to run Windows ONTOP of MacOSX - meaning that your Windows XP (and programs) will run INSIDE a Window (or fullscreen if you prefer) at the same time you are running MacOSX. Therefore, MacOSX is the host operating system, and Windows becomes the client operating system and the CPUs will be running both simultaneously.
    The order is this:
    *Boot Into OSX
    *Load Parallels
*Boot Windows Inside a Parallel Virtual Machine Window.
You'll be able to move your mouse between programs running directly under OSX, and your Windows Virtual Machine (unless you are in fullscreen mode). These are features of Parallels, and should not be confused with BootCamp.
I recommend you download and read the release notes for both BootCamp and Parallels so you can get a better idea of how they work.
If you are only interested in running Windows and Windows Applications, the MBP may not be the best choice for you.
If you are interested in exploring (as an artist) the advantages of the Mac, while continuing to have compatibility with your existing software, than perhaps the Mac IS a good choice for you.
    Good luck,
    Golan.

  • TS3147 After installing Mountain Lion, I tried to scan from my Canon MX870 and received the message: "MP Navigator EX quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. A report will be sent to Apple,"

After installing Mountain Lion, I tried to scan from my Canon MX870 and received the message: "MP Navigator EX quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. A report will be sent to Apple,"  This problem happened right after I installed Mountain Lion. I then downloaded Canon's upgraded software and drivers for the MX 870 and the problem was resolved. Now one month later, the problem has returned.

Solved problem with original Canon software.  When I downloaded Canon software upgraded for OS X 10.8, I got all by Navigator Ex. Noticed that on Canon's site, the upgraded version is 3.1; my app was 2.1. Upgraded to 3.1 for Nav. Ex, and it works.
You should still use Image Capture IMHO.  If it was my gear, that's what I would do.  No need to worry about software upgrades.

  • Canon MF4150 and Airport Extreme

A good friend of mine recently bought the Canon MF4150 (on my recommendation) for his home office. He needed to replace his ageing laser printer and wanted a AIO laser with faxing support, preferably from the Mac. According to the specs, the MF4150 did all this, so he purchased the unit and rang me when he couldn't get it working on his AEBS.
The MF4150 uses Canon's proprietary pdl called UFR2. Having used this driver with the imageRUNNER MFD's, I knew it was a driver that worked via TCP/IP and AppleTalk. So I thought it would work fine with his wireless network. But I was wrong!
After connecting the MF4150 to the AEBS USB port, the PSU was opened and Add selected. The MF4150 was displayed as a Bonjour device in the Default Browser view, but when the MF4150 was selected, the Print Using menu couldn't find the correct driver. If you browsed to the Canon folder, no UFR drivers were available, only the Canon BJs and GIMP/Gutenprint drivers.
Now, according to the manual, the correct procedure to add an iR via UFR is to select More Printers > Canon IP (UFR2). Then you input the IP address and leave the queue name blank. The driver then queries the printer and selects the appropriate 'ppd'. So, hoping that the USB port is somehow mapped to the AEBS's IP address (which according to Apple tech info (107998) it is possible for XP to print to the USB port by using IP) I was hoping the same could be done for OS X. But unfortunately it didn't work; the spooler stops as soon as the job is sent. The cups log shows the following...
    I [26/Jul/2007:13:27:52 +1000] Job 195 queued on '192168_11' by 'wazza'.
    I [26/Jul/2007:13:27:52 +1000] Started filter /System/Library/Printers/Libraries/PrintJobMgr/Contents/MacOS/PrintJobMgr (PID 373) for job 1.
E [26/Jul/2007:13:27:52 +1000] [Job 1] fatal: The printer is not supported, or the printer information is not acquired correctly. If the printer is supported, delete the printer from the printer list then add it again.: 10322
    E [26/Jul/2007:13:27:52 +1000] PID 373 stopped with status 82!
The error was generated because it is not possible to manually select the UFR2 driver, and the driver fails to find the printer on the AEBS USB, so it defaults to a Generic device, which the printer does not support. If the printer supported PS, or even PCL, then we may have been able to use a compatible driver, such as one of the Gutenprint drivers. But alas, the MF4150 only supports UFR2, and it only has a USB port, so it seems that there is no way that this model can be connected to wirelessly from OS X
So let this be a warning to anyone looking at the Canon MF4150 and who wants to use the device on their wireless OS X network. It works fine via the Mac USB (and Windows via wireless) but cannot be installed via the AEBS USB (AFAIK)...

    Hi Greg,
The UFR2 driver supports both network and USB printing, so what you have written is not the issue. If the printer is connected directly to the Mac's USB port, the driver software will determine the printer model and select the appropriate 'ppd'. However, it seems that when the same device is advertised via Bonjour, whatever information the software is expecting to be received is not, and therefore the 'ppd' is not selected. I therefore believe this is a Canon software procedural issue, rather than a protocol issue. And in typical Canon style, rather than resolving this problem, they release another model (MF4680) that can work around this limitation...

  • Canon Elura and Powershot no longer are recognized by 10.4.7

Looks like others are having this same problem, but there are no answers to the previous posts, so thought I'd add my problem to the queue. I'm pasting in the response I got from Canon when I emailed them. Apparently they recognize that the recent upgrade has created communication/recognition problems with Mac. Obviously their suggestion to use iPhoto to upload pics is not a solution. They state that they are working on it, and I wondered if Mac was working on the problem from their end. Thanks.
    Dear Customer;
Thank you for your inquiry. We value you as a Canon customer and
appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
Please note, with the update of OS 10.4.7, we are experiencing an issue
with USB communications. You may attempt to download using Apple's
    software iPhoto.
Currently, our only suggestion is to revert back to Mac OS 10.4.6 if you
wish to keep USB communication. Our engineers have been notified and
are currently investigating the cause of this issue. You may also wish
to contact Apple for possible updates to resolve this issue.
Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance with your
    PowerShot A60 and Elura 60.
    Thank you for choosing Canon.
    Sincerely,

    aspi5:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Which Powershot camera are you having problems with? Did you update to 10.4.7 via the Software Update preference pane? If you download and reinstall the 10.4.7 COMBO updater followed by a repair of disk permissions.
With the camera attached check System Profiler and see if it recognizes the camera. You can try using Image Capture, located in the Applications folder, to download from the camera to the desktop. If will often work.
    Do you Twango?

  • How should I install/setup a single OS of windows 7 to run through bootcamp and parallels 7 on my new macbook pro?

I just bought a new macbook 8g ram and 750g harddrive and want to be able to run windows 7 through bootcamp and parallels. How do I setup that up and install a single version of windows (want to be able to utilize heavy programs - photoshop, 3D modeling CAD etc. - by installing them once and being able to use them through parallels 7 or bootcamp)? Please let me know of anything that may red flag by doing this and clear concise instructions of which to do first/ settings for bootcamp and parallels

BootCamp is directly booting your computer into Windows for full hardware access and performance, just like a PC. It's free from Apple.
    https://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
Virtual machine software (paid) like Parallels and VMFusion both can take the Bootcamped Windows and make a copy for use in OS X in a window at the same time as using OS X, but less performance. It's usualyl easiler to use.
A free virtual machine option is VirtualBox, but it might not have all the bells and whistles of the payware options above, but works just  fine.
We can't provide detailed installation instructions, it's too much, you will have to read Apple's instructions and the manual for your virtual machine software.

I suggest that you run software update, after which you should have Safari 6.0.5 - then check Safari - Preferences - Privacy & see that 'Block cookies' is not set to Always.
Failing that - switch Safari extensions Off via Safari - Preferences - Extensions & test again

What version of mac are you running? Have you downloaded any of the drivers/software off the website yet? If not, you will need to download and install the CUPS Printer Driver and the Canon IJ Network tool.

  • Baltic printing on Canon printer (Canon ir2020)

    Hi All,
We have canon printer named Canon ir2020. We tried to print picking list (ZEK4) which contains Baltic (Lithuanian character) character. But Canon printer not able to print it properly.
But HP printer with device type HPUTF8 is able to print the Baltic character properly.
We need to know, Can we print baltic character on canon printer (i.e. Canon ir2020) or any other canon printer and if yes what should be the device type?
    Request you to help.

Go to > Canon U.S.A / PIXMA MG2120, select the OS X that you are running and try that driver.

  • Canon iR2020 - Can't Print

At work we got a new Canon iR2020 printer, it is connected to the network. Following the instructions we were able to get all the Windows based and Linux based machines to work, however none of the macs have been able to work with this printer yet. I have tried downloading up to date drivers with no success. It does recognize when the printer is on, in idle, or off. However every time you print it returns the error message "Printer in use. Waiting for the print job to finish." even when there is no job to finish. Thanks in advance for any help!

You may have to restart the machine for the setting to take effect. The button on the top is just a sleep mode, so you have to use the power switch on the RH side of the machine.
As far as a full reset is concerned, I think you would find this is a service mode setting rather than a user mode. The downside to doing this is that all the network and user values would need to be re-entered.
If the restart above doesn't help, then you could try adding the printer using IP > HP Jetdirect-Socket. But first you will need to check if the machine has the PCL kit installed. If it does, then you can add the printer using the Gutenprint Generic PCL5e driver, as there is no Canon PCL option for Mac. If this prints then, while it doesn't give you all the Canon features, it will at least show we can connect from the Mac's.
