Software Cross Compatibility?

I have a Zen Vision M 30GB and a Creative Zen 32GB. I'm running Win XP.......will any of the explorer packages that come with them work with both units. The last time I tried they gave me issues when I tried to install both.
Thanks

the zen and zen vision:m are using different applications.
i think you may need to install both applications on different dri'ves.

How do I get home video clips from iMovie Mac to iMovie iPad?  Surely there is some degree of cross-compatibility?  I have a load of clips in iMovie on my MBP that I wanna download to my iPad2 so that I can edit movies on the move.  Any ideas?  (The clips are in a .mov format, they have been imported / converted into this format in iMovie, original files were from a JVC camcorder in some other strange format.)

I copied the iTunes file from the external drive and it's in both places.  I thought all I would need is the iTunes program (which I downloaded to new computer) and my iTunes library file.  There must be something else that's missing.  My iTunes library looks the same on the new computer as it does when I open it on the external drive.  If I click on an iTunes library song from my new computer, it will only play if I have the external drive plugged in.
My back-up drive is a mess.  I have multiple copies of music, video, photo, and document files and I don't know how that happened. ={  Obviously, I don't know how to back up stuff properly and there are back-up files extending over a 6- to 8-year period.  I think all I did was just drag and drop the main folders from the back-up drive to the same main folders on the C: drive.  Also (and I'm kind of fuzzy on this) Windows used to automatically save music files in a folder within my document files (which makes no sense to me).  As my Jewish friends would say, "Oy Vey!"

  • Olympus DS-2300 DSS Player software OSX Compatibility

I purchased an Olympus DS-2300 digital voice recorder in part because of its Mac "compatibility".
The recorder itself works great. However, the software does not work correctly with Tiger and neither does the DSS Player Plus software (extra charge for that).
Olympus tech support tried to say that it is an operating system problem, as if it was Apple's problem. However, they finally admitted their 6.0.4 software does not work correctly with most installations of 10.4 (Tiger). I'm running 10.4.3 on my iBook G4.
Olympus says they don't know when the DSS Player software will be updated to work with Tiger.
So, their statement of PC/MAC compatibility is not exactly correct (any more).
About the only thing the software will do on the Mac is play the DSS file. Most everything else in the manual related to the DSS Player does not work. The download functions do not work, you cannot update anything on the recorder itself from the Mac. The DSS Player plus file split function does not work...it causes the software to crash.
The player also does not support the new, larger M type XD cards (such as 1GB). However, there is a firmware update which will allow the use of the 1GB cards. The update has to be run from a PC however. You cannot update the firmware from a Mac.
Anyone else found these compatibility issues with Olympus? There must have been some level of commitment to the Mac that they went as far as they did. I wonder if they are going to update their software ????
    iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

They mention something here about an update for Lion. I don't know if this has anything to do with your player.
    http://www.opdsupport.com/news/267-os-x-lion.html
    Also, did you try:
    http://www.opdsupport.com/mac/98-updating-dss-player-for-mac.html
Maybe somebody else will know of something but I would not hold out too much hope.  There isn't too much incentive for anybody to write software (especially Mac) for an older player, and one of the things about upgrading to newer systems is having to leave old items behind.  With Apple itself any support for things older than roughly four years is lucky.  People who really want to stretch things out try to find something that is about 4 years old that can still run older systems for backward compatibility, but also run new systems (perhaps under dual boot settings) to try to keep up for a while.

  • Basic Bridge hidden files cross compatibility ???

    Hi...
I am stuck with a very stupid problem.
I travel a lot from my photographic studio and my house, which respectively haves mac and windows platforms.
However, neither the "bridgesort", "camera raw import options (XMP)" and the "labels of the pictures" are working on both the systems, I just see/use one different each time.
That's of course cause of the different naming of hidden files between windows and mac... in windows a hidden file have a "label" inside him, in linux there is a "." prefix on the file.
So, I'm writing you to ask if there somewhere a BASIC/STUPID option to use a "." prefix (in combination with the hidden flag on the file labels) on Bridge's hidden files (ON WINDOWS), so that I will be able to see on both platforms the same things (labels, sorting, and camera raw preferences).
That's unfortunately the same with ALL pictures thumbnails, that causes a huge amount of useless scratch on the disks and also a waste of free space.
That' a very basic thing to do and there is a lot of linux software that do this as a basic thing to make people use cross-platform software with the same preferences on it's computer.
Please keep me informed, so I'll finally stop to use GOOGLE PICASA on my house's PC because I can't use my studio's preferences.

  • FCE FCP cross compatibility

Sorry to waist everyone's time with a basic question, but hopefully someone can give me a straight answer. I searched around the user group but couldn't find what I was looking for.
My question is if Final Cut Express projects and Final Cut Pro projects are cross compatible. If I start and edit a project in Express, can I take that project and work on it in Pro, and vice versa, if I start a project in Pro, can I then work on it in Express, and have everything work alright, and changes be saved. I asked because I am trying to start a doc project, but my partner is in another state. He has Pro readily accessible, but I only have Express. I'm wondering if I need to switch to Pro..
Sorry for the long winded question, and thank you for any information.
    Phil

As Al said with the correct versions of the applications you can go from FCE to FCP. However once the project has been saved in FCP there is a very good chance it will no longer open in FCE. Express projects can be opened in FCP, but Pro projects cannot normally be opened in Express. They are not fully cross compatible.

  • What DISK FORMATTING SOFTWARE allows compatibility b/n Windows and Mac?

I'm trying to copy photo files (.jpg) that are on my Windows 98 Dell PC to a disk, then onto my Mac Powerbook G4.
After unsuccessfully using Adaptec (on my PC) to format the disc (before copying), I learned it is only useful with Windows applications. So I was able to format and copy onto the disk successfully, but my Mac Powerbook G4 couldn't read the disk or the files... didn't even recognize it.
?? What software can I use to format the disk to copy the files from my PC, that will also allow the disk to be read by my Mac Powerbook G4???
?? Is this software available free to download off the net somewhere or do I need to purchase it??
?? Or is there another way to copy files from my PC onto a store-bought blank disk, and have them read by my Mac (i.e. without formatting the disk)??
THANKS A TON FOR ANY ASSISTANCE/GUIDANCE YOU CAN PROVIDE!
Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Starting from Dell PC, Windows 98 OS

    Nice guide here
    To create a Data CD:
Open Easy CD Creator from the Start menu. Click Start, point
to Programs, point to Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4, point to
Features, and then select Easy CD Creator.
Open a Data CD Layout. Click the small arrow next to the New
button on the toolbar and select Data CD from the drop-down
list. A Data CD Layout appears.
Insert a blank CD into your CD-Recorder (the destination
    drive).
In the Explorer section, select the data file or folder you want
to record, and then click Add. Repeat until the Data CD Layout
contains all of the files and folders that you want to record.
Click Create CD. The CD Creation Setup box appears.
    Click OK to start recording.

  • Logic Express , Protools cross compatibility?

Hey everything thanks for taking the time to read this!
I'd like to record using Apple Logic however for mixing and mastering my friend uses the latest version of ProTools, will I be able to create files that he will be able to work with, or will there be some problem in compatibility?
    Thanks!
    Gerald

I work just the opposite with my friends who use Protools. For you it's pretty easy as you can bounce tracks and he can load them all in to PT in sync. You'll want to consult with him about what effects to keep in and what he has on his PT rig. I would recommend doing all the EQ and compression on PT but keeping the plugins you use that are integral to your music on your tracks, like delays with automation and reverb. Unless he has some sweet reverb plugs.

  • Wireless software code compatibility question

I have run into a situation with several customers now where they have a WCS running version 7.0.230.0 (or something very similar) and they want to upgrade their 5508 wireless controllers to a newer version so they can support newer AP models (say 7.6.120.0).
I understand the WCS can only be upgraded to 7.0.240.0... I do not have a WCS in my lab to test compatibility.  I have read through the compatibility matrix but it is not 100% clear to me...
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/compatibility/matrix/compatibility-matrix.html#18972
What exactly will happen on the WCS if the controllers are upgraded to a code level beyond the WCS?
Will they lose some functionality on the WCS as far as alerting and/or reporting of the WLC's / AP's?
Will the controllers still be visible on the WCS, but maybe not the newer AP models?
Or will the controllers and AP's on them completely disappear on the WCS or all show as being in a "Down" state?
I'm sure someone out here has some first-hand experience they can offer...
    Thanks!

If the WLC is already joined to WCS, you can upgrade, but the only feature you will be able to perform is that of the WCS version.  So really, templates on WLC 7.6 will not work.  Put it this way, the features/templates that you get to do on the WLC is lined up to the matrix, so v7.0 WLC.

  • Cross-compatibility between FCP7 & AE CS4 on Win7-64 - how to make it work?

I'm currently capturing from an Intensity Pro on a mac OS X 10.5.8 thru HDMI so my source is very high quality.
I've been capturing to ProRes 422 HQ.
I'd like to edit in FCP7, then output clips that would be used with AE CS4 on Win7-64.
Also on the PC, I'd like to be able to use SynthEyes to view the clips to get motion tracking data.
I want to them be able to move my output from AE CS4 on Win7-64 back to the Mac for final editing.
The roadblock seems to be the lack of ProRes 422 HQ on win7-64 (unless I'm missing something).
I'm open to using another Codec (like Cineform?).
If I have to, I'll capture in Premiere (and maybe look at an Mx02 Mini while I'm at it) but I'd prefer to do my final editing in FCP7 - so I'll need a way to get the clips over to the Mac without degrading them.
Any ideas on how to make this workflow work?

my only issue is how to get the resulting files back to FCP so that, when I mix them in with other ProRes files, I won't have some massive re-rendering headache.
Exactly. And the Windows machine cannot encode ProRes.
I've asked the CineForm folks if they can output a ProRes container (packaged with their codec inside) - and maybe this will work?
No...they don't do ProREs. That is an Apple codec. They do CINEFORM codec. If you convert everything to Cineform, and encode to that format on both, then you have no rendering. But I'm sure you'll need to get two licenses...one on each machine.
What codec could you use on both machines that is comparable to ProRes? Well...Cineform. Sheer by Bitjazz. Not sure if the UNCOMPRESSED codecs are cross platform, meaning that the PC can render to this. I have always exported an Animation codec to the FX guys. They do their stuff, send back Animation, then I convert to the format I am working with. Yeah, that is a lot of converting. Which is why it might be wise to use one codec both machines can read/encode.

  • SONY HDD Video CAM Software in-compatibility w/MacBook

I've just purchased a SONY hard drive video camera(DCR- SR60). It came with software that is not compatible with my MacBook. The handbook suggestion is to purchase Mac compliant Pixela software: Capty MPEG Edit EX (video editing software) and Capty DVD/VCD 2(DVD authoring software).
I've not seen much good press on Pixela. Anyone got a better idea or a comment on the suggested software.

As Troy mentions, iMovie and iDVD are included with your Mac and much easier and more powerful than they are given credit for. Try them.
There are also support forums for those apps should you need them. iMovie is used to create to movie and that forum is found HERE. iDVD is use to create the menus and put that movie into a DVD format, then burn it to disk and that forum can be found HERE.

  • Software not compatable with os 10.9.1 and windows 8.1

I bought an Officejet 8100 today and I can not get the drivers to install on any of my computers. My Macs are running OS  10.9.1 and the PC is running Windows 8.1.  On the install on the Macs it says (paraphrased) my os is too recent. Any help?

    Hello edgillispie,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums.  I see that you have recently purchased an Officejet 8100 printer and running into issues when trying to install the printer on your computers.
There is a full feature driver for Windows 8.1 for the printer.  Please use HP’s Printer Install Wizard to install the printer onto your Windows 8.1 computer.  I have included the How Do I Find the Best Windows 7 or Windows 8 Driver for My Printer? document that will walk you through the installation. For your computers running Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks, I need to do some investigation into the printer driver before I can give you a more complete answer.

  • Cross compatibility  mac - pc - 5th G ipod??

Can anyone help? ... While visiting a friend in yorkshire i bought myself a new ipod.....i downloaded some music from itunes on to his mac and updated my ipod with them...now when i connect it to the pc it tells my i must reformat my ipod .... is there anyway of doing this without losing my tunes??

No. Windows cannot read from a Mac formatted iPod.
Tell him to burn the songs onto a CD and mail them to you.
A Windows formatted iPod can be read by a Macintosh.
If you are planning on going to see him again, you could wait until you go, format your iPod with windows and then when you go, you could upload the songs to your iPod again.

  • Format/cross-compatibility problems with Seagate External HDD

I recently bought a MacBook Pro (July 08) and as soon as I took it out of the box and set it up, went to plug in my little 120GB Seagate HDD to dump the files onto my new Mac, and received the query "Do you wish to format HDD?" Of course I clicked 'NO', and ejected the drive from the Mac. I went to plug it back into my old PC (where it had worked moments before) and received the same query as on the Mac, plus, when I went into properties, found that the drive was no longer FAT32 but RAW. I now find myself at wit's end trying to rescue the 4 years' of data on the drive. I have tried running disk utility on Mac where it can see it still as FAT32, but can't mount it or repair it, and it's still in RAW format when connected to PCs. Anybody out there with some ideas?
    Thanks!

I'm not a hardware expert, but Seagate had a major HD firmware issue earlier this year:

  • IPhone 4 freezes during software update

Here we go. I've searched the forum. This problem is known, but there is no single solution that has worked for everyone. So I'll post here and see if I'm wrong.
iPhone 4 - I do not know the current version of the iOS, but I was upgrading to today's latest.
    Windows Vista
    Latest version of itunes 10.4.1.10
iTunes updated fine, iPhone backed up fine, software update dowloaded, error occurred during the actual update.
Now, iphone screen has the usb plug  and itunes logo on it, as if it's telling me to plug the phone in to my MC and fire up itunes. Which I do. And nothing happens.  This happened to me before on the same computer, only with an iPod Gen2. The only solution I even found for that was plugging into a different PC, restoring the ipod, coming back to this PC and restoring the backup, but not installing the software.
This time I don't even get the message that my device is stuck in restore mode.
    Help anyone? I'm ******.

Hello curtis84: I tried unsuccessfully for several weeks to locate a fix online for this issue. I've seen may posts for this issue and a lot of complaining about Apple's lack of response with a fix. After trying various times to uninstall software reinstalling software, deleting backups blah blah blah; I decided to do things the "hard" way. I installed ITunes on another one of our computers and backed up my Iphone to that computer. Doing this gives you a warning that only certain portions of the iphone are backed up since I'm using another computer. Another stupid feature of ITunes....Since I use the IPhone on a Windows computer AND all of my contacts, emails are on an MS Outlook account, the only painful part of this was my ITunes Library. Photos and music were backed up on a separate (USB) hard drive and transferred manually. This did wipe out my playlists for my IPhone but at least I can run the software. The back up works the update works and the syncing runs much quicker than before. I realize this isn't an elegant solution but since Apple has not provided a posting for Windows based computers, this is my attempt to help those who need it.
A little feedback for Apple; not that they seem to be listening but here it goes; I always hear from others how much of a pain Microsoft is due to cross compatibility issues snd their protectinonism; but in all of my years of running numerous computer systems including Apple I have never encountered such a total lack of disregard for customer support as I have with Apple and their OS updates. This includes their computer based and phone based OS. From a business perspective, this specific lack of cross platform support undermines your product and allows competitors to bulld support for their products. Please do the right thing and properly support your loyal customers whether MS or Apple based. The phone rocks. Just support it!
    Best Regards.
