Software deployment never works
The software deployment component has not been updated since windows server 2000 as far as i can see and it has never worked well, requires .msi and is just rubbish.
Why is there by now no good way to roll out software to users and why does the software gpo never install and uninstall software correctly, always comes up with pointless errors in the event log that never help.
Why is there no effort to improve this basic functionality?
SME are not going to buy SCCM and sccm is not that much better at rolling out software anyway.
I end up having to use login scripts and other non sense.
Yes, I have rolled out a thin image with MDT and so on.
One of the problems is that i installed X software as user context with gpo with a version 10.0. to windows 7 32bit roaming profiles.
Then I applied update to X software server to 10.2, swapped out the msi with the 10.2 version, then users moved to windows 7 64bit with new policy and new image from mdt. Then when they log in with roaming profile the gpo tries to install 10.2 of the software
and it says it can't remove the previous version. I don't see why it needs to remove the previous version because it doesn't. Running the msi within the user session manually works without admin rights and any issues, so i know there is no problem with the
msi.
I should have applied the 10.2 update to the users profiles before they moved to the new image and this would have allowed for the previous version to be detected properly. Even though I have tried pushing out the new version to the old image, it still fails
in teh same way.
Is it not possible to remove the package 10.0 then add package 10.2. Do i realy have to keep 10.0 in there and than add 10.2 and go to upgrades tab and specify that 10.2 is the new version of 10.0. Is it realy that rubbish that it can't just isntall the
msi?
However even just pushing out a flash update fails. Comes up with similar problems trying to find the previous version.I tried removing the previous version from program and features to see if it would work if there was no version installed it has similar
problems.

Another frustrated AIO user here, Our LaserJet 3050 is a decent printer and an Ok stand alone Fax machine, but the scanning software hasn't worked for a long time and the Toolbox FX software has never worked. There hasn't been a significant update to the software since the Fall of '07, like 3 mos. after we purchased the machine. I can't use the scan buttons on the machine even though I've installed the full software package. The only scanner that works is the native windows one, which slows us down at work. My laptop is an HP pavilion dv8408us and it's had it's share of difficulties as well. How about broadcasting a fix for this stuff? HP should devote more time and energy into making sure things work in the first place? Nice website front page, though.error message

ITunes says it needs to upgrade but the download never works. What's wrong?
One day I got on iTunes to put some music on my iPod Nano (one of the older versions), and always before when I plugged it in and came up and said it was plugged in, but then it didn't recognize it! This went on for several months, me never being able to put more music on my iPod.
Finally I got the newest Nano for my birthday and I figured it'd work, but the same problem is going on! I've had the brand new iPod for 3 months and it doesn't have ANY music on it!
It does come up and ask if I want to download a newer version of iTunes, that it needs that one to work right (version 8.2 something I think). I go to download it, it takes a while, and then comes up and says the download was unsuccessful, I've tried about 30 times, and it never works.
What is going on?Instead of trying to update iTunes +from within iTunes+, go to Apple's page where you can download the iTunes 8.2.1 installation file -- save the file, don't run it direct from the download. Once downloaded to your computer, then run the installation file.
If that does not fix the problem, then remove the following software from your computer (you won't lose your music): iTunes, Quicktime, and something called "Apple Mobile Device Services". Once you remove those programs, then run the iTunes installer file (from above) again. That will install all three of these programs and should fix your problem. -
HP Director software won't work since I installed Linksys Wireless Print Server
I have an HP 5510 Office Jet all in one. It comes with bundled software called HP Director that enables scanning, printing, and faxing. The software worked fine while I had the printer connected to my pc with a USB cable.
To give myself flexibility I installed a WPSM54G Linksys Wireless G Printserver. There is no direct connection between my printer and pc anymore.
Printing still works fine. This is being handled by the Linksys software.
The HP Director no longer can find the printer. When I try to scan (for example) using HP Director, I get a message that "an error occurred communicating with the printing device...". It presumably is looking for a direct USB connection, and not finding one.
I can't find a fix on the HP site, but I imagine there must be one. Wireless print servers have been around for quite a while. Is there a download that will solve this problem?

Exactly my point. These services: scanning, photos and faxes will never work through a print server.

If you mean AppleCare, then I would believe the answer will be yes.
First make sure you have a full backup of everything on your Mac, then run, don't walk to your nearest Apple store.
Note: Due to your Mac now being in computer years, somewhat elderly, Apple may not have the require parts in stock. This will either mean you might have to leave it with them for a number of days, or maybe they will offer you a new Mac mini. While a new Mac mini (if offered) might be a welcome possibility be aware that the new Mac mini no longer has a CD/DVD drive and it comes with Mac OS X Lion and as a result might not run some of your old software. -

First man up and admit, that itunes does not suggest, but tells you that update is available and you made a
decision to download and update. Once you man up - think if you still under warranty. If that is not security
software according to the link provided, it is hardware. So second try another network, may be your network
has additional security or firewall. And third decide if it worth to you pay 149 for that phone or get it replaced.

"Client" property set to "No", application deployment not working (issue with registering to MP?)
Dear all,
We're running an SCCM 2012 SP1 environment. All users have a thin client and are running virtual desktop in our VDI environment. Thin clients are deployed via an SCCM task sequence.
Since a few months, software deployment (i.e. updated system drivers or application plug-ins) is not working to those thin clients. Upon investigating, I discovered the "Client" property for almost all thin client computer objects
in the SCCM console is set to"No". For the computer objects of the virtual desktops, this property is set to "Yes", which I think should be the case for all clients managed by the SCCM environment.
Also, I've discovered the ClientIDManagerStartup.log log file is showing the following errors for the thin clients:

These errors seem to be occuring every few minutes to every few seconds for all of the thin clients where the "Client" property is set to "No". I found out reinstalling the SCCM client or removing the
smscfg.ini file solves the issue, but only temporarily as the problem returns the next day or after a few days.

Has anyone used the PI 2.0 Software Deployment with VSS systems like 6500 or 4500? Does it work? Does it upgrade the image in eFSU? Should VSS systems be manually updated?
Finally are there any guides or documentation on using PI 2.0 to deploy / upgrade images for platforms like 6500 / 4500 running VSS mode?

WinXP System Restoring never works on my T500 ......
I am running a T500 as 2082-8WG and experienced first time that system restoring never works (it worlks fine with other notebooks). I can create a restore point and I can chose it to be restored and the whole process gets thru until the new boot but then it always says: The system could not be restore at point .......
What can I do?
I think I could try Lenovo's tools for that but I was reluctant to do that so far.

Go to Solution.Winows system restore can be influenced by different software utilities; virus scanners especially. If you choose a restore point running in safe mode, (F8 at boot), it should work without problems.

I got a macbookpro exactly one year ago; Mozila never worked with it. I have been on safari for a while, and recently had to open mozila.
suddenly, my entire computer was sluggish, like a 10-second delay, opening apps or closing them was delayed by 10 seconds, and then multiple actions would happen all at once, making the screen flicker, almost.
I am deeply frustrated by my macbookpro -- it has cost us so much money, and as far as I am concerned, it is inherently flawed. I was sold a defective item by the Tysons Corner, VA Apple store and I am beyond frustrated. For daily user and magazine editor, it is hair-pullingly frustrated to have to deal with app freezes and sluggishness, on a daily basis.
Before switching to Apple I was on a Dell Latitude 650, for about seven years. That little guy NEVER gave me any problems, never never never never, until I dropped it real good on the floor once and I had to have the HD change.
This macbookpro is whimsical and works when it only really wants to. I feel so angered by Apple's inability to produce a decent notebook.
I am taking this into the genius bar tomorrow, but my expectations are pretty low.Sorry to hear it's not working out as well as you'd like. Be sure you have 10%-15% free hard drive space, as the system really slows if less than that.
I had a version of firefox awhile ago that had some memory issues, but current version works. Actually, I use Chrome almost all the time now, and can recommend it. https://www.google.com/chrome/
You might consider upgrading to 10.6.8, as it's pretty mature at this point. I'd install the combo update from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 . The combo release contains all prior updates to 10.6 . Sometimes Software Update can update badly and cause funky issues. If you do this, first use Disk Utility, which is on your hard drive in application/utilities, and repair permissions. Then install the combo update, and repair permissions again when you're done.
Another thing I would do while you have Disk Utility up is to verify the hard drive. If there are any issues, you'll boot from the DVD drive to repair them. Also ensure the SMART status says 'verified'. -
Had to reinstall my system and now software doesn't work
Hi, my powerbook recently died or something, so that whenever I switched it on some code would show up. Well I reinstalled mac os x, and I'm able to get back on. But lots of the software doesn't work. That includes itunes, safari, firefox, garageband, and all my photos that I had in iphoto are gone. Some told me to reinstall those programs or update them from apple's website, but the only browser on my computer that works is internet explorer, and it won't finish loading the pages to instal safari or itunes. So I can never get to them. I tried firefox, but once I download the image and try to mount it, it says failure and corrupt image.
I also can't even get on to some other websites, like hotmail.com, so I can't even check my email for some reason.
I'm kind of at a loss here for how to get back my old photos, use my old programs and basically do anything on this laptop. I tried using software update to update mac os x to 10.3.9, but that didn't change anything.
By the way, I don't have internet at home so I've been going online at starbux to do this stuff. I appreciate any help someone can give me.

The applications are there, they just won't open. Someone told me would lose my preferences and just had to update them again, but I can't do so cause safari doesn't work and internet explorer won't let me get on certain sites...

Csa 6.0 problem with software deployment tool

I am having some problems with csa 6.0 and a software deployment tool called capainstaller, it resides on the client and picks up packages on some server shares and executes them from there, or copies it locally. We have added it to the class that defines mass software deployment like we did in 5.2, which works fine in 5.2, in 6.0 we are getting alot of applications getting put into @untrusted, for some reason. I can't figure out if i am supposed to make general exeptions for shares and local directories where the deployment tool reads its packages from ? In that case which classes should i modify, i am seeing alot of classification from the module called Security - Untrusted Content Classification, and this gives me alot of headaches.Well, the Mass Software Deployment class, is where you are supposed to put marimba, in 5.2 this was fine, and worked for most of the installations i have done. in 6.0 the big break came when i found out that you can't use UNC network paths in a file set, it just doesn't work. If you put it is a literal straight in the same field as the altiris and sms are in the built-in rules, that works, maybe your marimba agent is also part locally installed and part gotten from the network like ours is ?

Headset with Mic has never worked (the mic)
I have an iphone 3G with the most currently released software updates. I just realized the headphones that came with the phone were also a headset. They have never worked. I see a lot of posts where they "quit" working after an update. I have tried to plug/unplug the mini jack/etc. Nothing seems to work. The clicker does not answer calls/etc. I can hear through the headphones, just no response from the mic.
Any suggestions? Is this a software thing, or switch that needs to be enabled?Hi

Hope this is possible on your end and of cos has be still under Warranty - 1 year if no extended Apple Care ...

SL Software Update never detect iTunes update
I am on Snow Leopard 10.6.3. The Software Update never detects any iTunes update. I can let iTunes itself to check update. Once iTunes tells there is an update and ask if I want to download, I click yes then iTunes launch Software Update. But every time Software Update come out with nothing. I have to go to Apple website and manually download update. Anyone can help me out? Thanks and sorry for my poor English.
