  • What is the best temperature gauge software for MacBook Pro?

My MacBook Pro (late 2011, i7 Quad 2.4 GHz, SSD, OS 10.8.5, 8 Gigs RAM) which I use for pro audio production has started stuttering while playing back audio a couple of times - only editing a stereo track with no plug-ins.  I thought it was my Glyph drive because my studio can get warm when the weather's hot in San Diego, even though I've never experienced this before.  However, I moved the current project to my internal SSD boot drive and it started again after using the computer for several hours.  I now think it's a heat issue effecting the laptop itself (it was 85 degrees F in my room).  I want to buy the best software for checking temperatures (CPU, drives, etc.) and am looking at both iStat Menus and Temperature Guage.
Are there any recommendations for which is best (or if something else is better)?  I would rather pay more for software that won't cause me problems when I'm doing large mixes, etc.
    Thanks!
    Robert

They all access the same data, so one's as good as another. iStat Menus is good for displaying a variety of information in the menubar for convenient access. But if all you want are temperature readings then I would select Temperature Monitor 4.98.

  • 3rd Party Software for Charting

Can anyone recommend 3rd Party Software for Charting (pie chart, bar chart etc)
I have tried to use the Cold Fusion charts <CFCHART> etc..... but they just dont create professional looking charts.
    I bought Fusion Charts.
It worked great for a while.
But the charts dont render on IPADS and now they have printing issues.
So now I have decided to start anew.
I want charting software that outputs to professional looking JPG, GIF or PNG images (NO FLASH!!)
Does anyone have any suggestions for 3rd Party Software for Charting that integrates well with my existing cold fusion pages?

in case you already didn't know, you can go a long way by tweaking the
webcharts3D bits that cf uses for cfchart. look under your cf install for the
cfusion\charting dir. there should be a batch file to start the editor & a user
guide PDF. there's even an eclipse plugin:
    http://www.gpoint.com/website/WebCharts50/products/eclipse.jsp
for tricks & tips have a search through ray's blog:

we have more "sciencey" needs for our charting than cfchart can easily provide &
use jfreechart for most of our apps' graphing.

though to get the most of this lib you probably need to cough up $65 US for the
    "developer guide".

  • Right CPU temperature for MacBook?

I downloaded an application today that lets me see how hot my processor is running, it displays the temperature in the menu bar. I thought it was running a little hot, so I did some Google searches and saw the average temperature was about 43-50C, mine's running anywhere from 56-60C.
Is the running temperatures different for MacBooks? In a sense, is this normal temperature for the MacBook? I have good ventilation for it, my fan works fine and all that, but I'm curious as to what average running temperature is, and what's safe, what I should be expecting, etc.
    Thank you!

We have had many discussions on MacBook temps. Normal temp is usually 50ºC to 60ºC. Then when it gets hot it can get up to around 80ºC to 85ºC. Some run cooler, not by much, and some run hotter.
Yours is normal. See this for info also. Apple Notebooks: Operating Temperatures

Can anyone suggest us why this is happening?
    Any help would be appreciable.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that the richtextbox tool bar menu not display in non_IE browser.
The richtext box not supported in Non-IE browser, it leads to the issue.

  • What is the best Book Cataloguing software for iMac. I have about 5000 books I would like to bar-code scan into my iMac. Thanks

What is the best software for cataloguing a large book collection into my iMAc. I would like to use a hand-held scanner, and scan bar codes, entering ISBN numbers only when necessary. Currently using Book Collector (www.collectorz.com) on a PC. desktop

I did something similar and used an application for my phone (Android OS at the time), which I can't recall the name of, to bulk scan the bar codes and subsequently upload the list to my mac in the form of an excel spreadsheet (it was a csv file). When I migrated to an iPhone, the application "Bar code scanner" performed in the same manner. Using my phone was by far the easiest method of bulk scanning (and subsequently cataloguing on my machine) in both instances.

  • Crazy CPU Temperature

Recently I've been getting reads of 160 degrees F and higher off my CPU. I'm concerned (obviously) but I have a feeling that the temperature listed might be incorrect. But I'm not sure.
After the last FirmWare update, I have to say that the computer has been performing better (used to have the random shut-down problem) but now the fans are on constantly.
    Any suggestions or ideas?
It occurs no matter what Apps I have I open... that is, even if I don't have any applications running. The only other thing I can think of is that about 2 weeks ago I moved the usual spot I have my computer in from an open desk to a more confined area. (But it's not like it's an airless cubby-hole or something!)
I'm going to move it back to it's original location to see if anything changes.

Check Activity Monitor for %CPU for all processes. There may be some process you're not aware of that is using a lot of CPU. A temp of 70 deg C and fans running noticeably loud at idle/low CPU load would be suspicious to me.
Other than that, another thing you may try is resetting the SMC:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319
Over the long term, you might find the utility called MenuMeters useful:
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/10451
Using MenuMeters, you can keep a bar graph of CPU usage (and other things) in your menu bar.

  • K9N Platinum - Wrong CPU Temperature in BIOS

Hi, I have a K9N Platinum (7250-020) with the latest 1.3 BIOS and an AMD X2 3800+. The CPU Temperature in the BIOS has a negative sign in front of it, and it seems to always report -48*C. I tried the latest nVidia nTune and it was reporting the CPU temperature to be 208*C, which is absolutely impossible...
Does anyone have the same problem? I searched around and it seems I'm not the only one, but I still cannot understand if it affects only some K9N Platinums or all...
    Thanks.

I assume you are talking about checking voltages as reported by the BIOS in the HW Monitor page, not physically checking them with a multimeter, correct?
I'll take a look at the numbers in the BIOS, but last time I checked they were ok.
As for raising the issue with MSI, eventually I will, even if they ask you soooooo many questions (for good reasons, I know...) that it would take me half an hour to fill that form...
I've checked with both and software is a little out from what a multimeter state's. Only check with a multimeter if your happy to do so. http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/showthread.php?t=137886 offer good advise if using a multimeter .....
The only issue I see is the AUX connector for 3.3v with ATX2.0 spec (Modular cables etc)

  • Satellite M100 - I can't analyse the CPU temperature

I'm an owner of Toshiba Satellite M100 series (Core Duo T2300, X1400, etc.). The problem is that I can't analyse the CPU temperature changes in such popular application like Everest or Notebook Hardware Control. Also any other software provided by Toshiba and already installed on my HDD doesn't include some CPU diagnostics including the temperature changes!
The only software which seems to be working is the HWiNFO32 so there is some thermal sensor inside which reads this temperature of Centrino Duo processor, but this software is not very user-friendly :(
There is a request for Toshiba to do something with this... I've upgraded BIOS in my model to a version 1.70 but it didn't change anything I could easily notice (or is there any?) :(

    Hi
Like Mike said the BIOS update has nothing to do with the CPU temperature monitoring.
The fact is that Toshiba doesnt support any 3rd party applications.
However, all the temperature programs are not precise and dont get exactly information about the temperature. Only the programs with a physical temperature sensor will give you a exactly temperature.
I dont understand why its so important for you to know the temperature. The Toshiba notebooks support an overheating protection and if the temperature increases to the critical level so the unit shuts down automatically.

  • MacBook CPU Temperature

For the last several months my MacBook fan start to run as soon as I do anything processor intensive - including running a screensaver. As soon as I do something other than read mail or write in BBedit the fan revs up to 6000+ rpm. Looking at iState menu right now: Handbrake is the highest load, running using about 50% of the CPU. CPU temp is 99C, heatsink A 57C, heatsink B 56C, and the Enclosure base is 27C. The fan, as usual is running over 6000 rpm.
Is this normal? Could it be that thermal paste problem? Internet research has been more confusing than helpful.
Applecare is long expired - This is an early 2008 model.
    Thanks
    -Max

yep. and i bet, your fan isn't even spinning at its 6200 rpm maxmimum to accomplish this.
ok. as far as i understand it, different mabook series allow for different cpu temperatures and accordingly have a different fan behavior depending on which cpu is installed and which buliding materials are used in the book itself. so we can't directly compare your 2007 model to his 2008 or my 2009 model. but one thing pertains to all machines: if the fan spins at it's absolute maximum speed for a longer time period and temperatures do not drop noticeable, and if the fan never showed this behavior before, there's probably something wrong.
either the ventilation is blocked for some reason or the thermal paste is disintegrating. i would have checked it at the store. also, there is this wide gap between cpu temperature and heatsink temperature. for all i know, it's normally a difference up tof 15-20°, but not arround 40°.

  • X2100 monitoring hardware parameters CPU temperature

    Hello all!
I have an X2100 under Linux SLES 10.0
I'm searching Internet for a long time, but cant get an answer.
Is there a way to get hardware parameters (CPU temperature/fan speed etc) via SNMP ?
What software should be installed (of course snmpd is running yet) to do it?
    What MIBs is needed?
    best regards,
    Alex

    Hi,
this hardware monitoring tools are not giving the real temp out. I tried Hardware doctor and it says that my Qosmio is running about 120 (!!) so I dont think its supposed to be the
    real temperature of my CPU!
If your FAN is running constantly, maybe your fan and cooling system is clobbed with dust. Maybe cleaning the whole thing would be useful. On the other side, try to adjust the setting in the "toshiba power saver" and try to find settings which fit for you (performance/silence) because you have a powerful system and then its normal that your fan is running high.
He had to cool a CPU, a VGA and a little bit of heat out of the case.
