Software for Gigadesigns Dual 1.7 ghz

Hi I have a Mac G4 (AGP Graphics)
with a Gigadesigns Dual 1.7 ghz Processor
in the system profiler it is reading
Number Of CPUs: 2
CPU Speed: 0 MHz
System Version: Mac OS X 10.4.11
I bought this computer on ebay 6 months back with the software on it
I had no problems
I been using Garageband For some time now
But recently I wanted to use Logic to see if it would send midi out.
I never used Logic I figured it was like Opcode Studio Vision.
I lunched Logic for the first time and got this error
• Logic Pro requires that your system have a CPU speed of 500.00 MHz; this system has a CPU speed of only 0.00 MHz.
I tried to see if there is software for the Gigadesigns Dual 1.7 ghz Processor to make it stop reading CPU Speed 0MHz
is there any software for Gigadesigns Dual 1.7 ghz Processor?

Hi
You need Giga-Meter 1.0.1. reinstalled. Then your mac will read CPU speed.

  • Graphics Card shortage for G5 Dual 2.0 GHz?

This is more a comment maybe out of frustration than anything. Sorry. I have a G5 Tower Dual 2.0 GHz with ATI 9800 Pro w/128 Ram. 1.5 Meg of memory.
Been a Apple/Mac supporter for over 20+ years. If anyone has any suggestions as you read on, please let me know.
I bought my G5 in late 2004 so it has operated excellently for a number of years. Of course, my Applecare expired a couple of months ago and now a week ago, it appears that my orginal graphics card has gone out. After about 2 or 3 minutes from bootup, the screen begins filling up with artifacts. You can still see the desktop, but it is pretty messed up.
The original graphics card was an ATI 9800 Pro with 128 meg of ram. I contacted an Apple service center in Kansas and was told that they can get me the original card but it would cost me $600. What's with that price? Plus it would be on backorder for an unknown lenghth of time.
Or, I can get an ATI X800XT which is supposed to be about 2X the video for $300. A no brainer. I ordered it. Except, same thing, on backorder until the end of February 2007. I was told that these (2) graphics cards are the only ones that will work in my G5.
In any case, my computer will be down for nearly 3 weeks while I wait on this video card. Not a pleasant situation. I went on line looking for some place that I could maybe get a ATI X800XT sooner. No luck. Each place I went says "On Order".
So here my computer is dead in the water for 3 to 4 weeks. Thanks for any help.

    Hi
I could be wrong, but I believe the shortage may be related to RoHS, the Restriction of Hazardous Substances directive. It was adopted by the European Union in 2003 to restrict the usage of lead, mercury, cadmium and other substances. I believe ATI may have just started manufacturing graphics cards which now conform to this directive, but there's been a shortage between the old stock being sold off and the new stock being introduced. Unfortunately this doesn't help, but may explain what's happening.

  • Is there a processor upgrade available for a Dual 1.8 GHZ G5?

I am looking to upgrade a Dual 1.8 GHZ G5 to 4 processors if that is possible?

Not 4 CPUs, but somebody here in the last month or 3 changed to higher rated G5 CPUs on a slower Logic board, which I didn't know would work, not sure which speeds it was & can't dind anything on Apple of course.

  • Latest software for Z3 dual

    Hi all.
Now my phone has just make an update from 23.0.F.1.74 to 23.0.F.1.82
The update size was almost about 5.9 mb, so I guess it's minor update.
My question is why on sony website not mention the latest version, they saying 74 is the last one?
If someone can tell us what is the difference between the two versions we will be thankful for that.
    Solved!

  • Upgrading RAM on Dual 2.5 Ghz PowerMac

Ok, I just bought 8 1gb sticks of Hypervelocity RAM from macramdirect.com for my Dual 2.5 Ghz PowerMac. It already had 2.5gb of RAM sticks in there, so I was going to replace the 2.5 and stick it in 2 other G5's at the place I work at, and just run the 8 1gb sticks in my G5, that I use for video editing. When I stick the 8 1gb sticks in there, I boot it up and the fans kick on and the h/d spins, but nothing happens on the monitor and the power light flashes 2 times like every 5 seconds. So I basically started eliminating problems by starting with only 2 of the 8 sticks in the 1st dual slots. It still didn't fully boot up, give me the chime, and the power light flashed 2 times every 5 seconds. So I installed 2 of the 256mb chips in the 1st layer of the DIMM slots, and 2 of the 1gb sticks in the 2nd layer of the DIMM slots. It boots up completely, I hear the chime. I thought that this G5 could max out at 8gb, but is this totally true. Or can it only max out at probably 7gb, 1 gb short of the supposedly max given by apple??

Before talking to MacRamDirect, boot into Open Firmware (hold down four keys on startup/restart, doesn't even need to be a cold start):
    CMD + OPT + O + F
    then type three commands -
    reset-nvram
    set-defaults
    reset-all
You may want or need to use the OPTION key to select your boot drive and reset it in Startup Disk c.p.
G5s don't always see or recognize the new RAM configuration; sometimes it only "shows up" when loading programs that require more RAM.
You should also boot from the Apple Hardware Test and run that as well. If all is working and showing up, I would then run Memtest overnight.
Why nvram or the device tree isn't being updated - no idea - but I have seen this happen and reset-nvram did the trick (also works when swapping hard drives and not showing, though not if you are ADDING a drive).

  • I have the following Apple Computer: Dual 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4, 2 MB per processor. Can I put install new Intel Xeon processors in place of the current ones to bring my Mac up to the MacPro standards and so I can install the new Mac software?

I have the following Apple Computer: Dual 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4, 2 MB per processor. Can I put install new Intel Xeon processors in place of the current ones to bring my Mac up to the MacPro standards and, if so, can I then install the new Mac software (Lion)?

As has been clearly stated, no, no, and no.
If such an upgrade were possible, it probably would be more money than it would be worth.
If you're running a G4 (dual-processor even) you can pick up a used Mac mini (intel that is, and something from 2010 or newer would be the best bet) that will be screaming fast compared to a G4.
Once upon a time, processor upgrades were not only possible, but a good deal, and a relatively inexpensive way to get more life out of your Mac. I upgraded a G3 tower to a G4 for  few hundred dollars, and I was glad I went that route at the time. Finally,  CPU upgrades, at least as far as I know, aren't available anymore.

  • Dual G5 2 GHz, random freezing for about one year now...

    Hi Everybody
I own a Dual G5 2 GHz for about three years now. I used to work perfectly until about one year ago.
Then, presumably, an external FireWire harddisk blew the Logic Board. I had to have it replaced for a lot of money (because the G5 was out of warranty already). Since that point in time, the machine randomly freezes from time to time. And it is getting worse.
I tried a lot already, I think: RAM, USB peripherials (Mouse, Keyboard), removed all external things (but wireless, mouse, keyboard and screen), different screen, different keyboard... I had it turned in to different apple repair-centres twice and got it back with "no problem found" (although it froze in one case as well!).
Apple Hardware-Test runs fine. It gave an error that pointed to the Logic-Board or processor (according to Apple customer care) once, but this is not reproducible...
I am at a loss. What else can I do? By the way: the most "promising" thing to create the freeze (although there is no "definitive" way to do so) is to browse iTunes-Shop/Podcasts.
I would be very grateful for any hint/option. Thinking about Firmware update right now, but first have to check what verison I already have to see if there is a newer one.
    Regards
    andreas
    Dual G5   Mac OS X (10.4)

Mozilla recently released Firefox 2.0, you may want
    to give that a try.
I was thinking about that too. I might do this, if no crashes occur as long as I only use Safari (I can live with that for a week, np).
It's possible that there may be something else
running in the background (another application that
you installed perhaps) that could be causing the lock
up. Take a look at Activity Monitor
    (/Applications/Utilities)
I'll have a look, but I don't think (hope?) there is something I missed...
Something else to look at would be to do a fresh
install (even if it's using an external FW drive),
reinstall your software 1 by 1 and see if it casuses
your machine to freeze. It's time consuming, but may
help in narrowing down what is the cause (if in fact
    it is software related).
Two points here: first is that I cannot reinstall one by one because the error is not (yet) reprocucible. So I would never know when one app is "secure" and when to install the next one...
And second, I think that software should no be able to freeze a system like OS X (or FreeBSD) just like that, no? Maybe crash the app, but not the system...
Also, are you running any Classic applications?
    Nope.
If you don't already have the newest version of
Firefox installed, try that first and see what
    happens.
I have And I had a lot of different versions throughout the last year
Thanks for your input, Ben, I appreciate it!

I have a dual boot lab that I set up for a school.  The partitions consist of Mountain Lion OSX and Windows 7 Ent.  I use bootpicker software for choosing the operating system at startup.  When I select the windows partition, it take just under 2 minutes from selection to the windows login screen.  It seems to take incredibly long for the mac to "shut down and hand over the operating system to windows.
Do you have any suggestions on how to get this timing faster?
    Thanks for any ideas/input

The only suggestion I can make is to look ar ReFind (previuosly ReFit). Startup mamangement is one of its features.
    But
It is very powerful so test it for yourself before deploying it. Some of the functions are best kept out of the hands of the curious, or 'playful'
And you never answered this question.
Tell me what the needs are, do the users always need to choose Windows or is this a variable?

What is a recommended decompression software for a non-Lion compatible MacBook Pro 1,1 2 GHz Intel Core Duo running OS X Version 10.6.8?

My thanks to you and all other respondents.  In backing up "theVault" App I thought that my ancient version of Stuffit was inadequate to unzip the backup file.  I attempted to download the latest Zipit version which only works with Lion.  After upgrading to Stuffit 9 I realized that theVault backup file was encrypted so as to not open on the backup Mac.  One must restore to the iPhone where is does open.
My apologies for the imprecise post.  I am finding limitations with not being able to install Lion on my early MacBook Pro.  I can recommend theVault to those looking for a password App with secure backup.

  • Best video card for a Power Mac G5 Dual 1.8 GHz

What is the best video card I can upgrade to with my Power Mac G5 Dual 1.8 GHz?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hi-
The best is probably the one that you can find..... getting hard to find Mac 8x AGP cards.....
Best OEM cards are (were) Radeon 850XT, Radeon X800XT, Geforce 6800 Ultra and Geforce 6800 GT, in order from fastest.
    X800 vs. others
Now, most options are the above, used, or, flashed PC cards. PC cards include the above, but have one faster than even the X850XT- the Geforce 7800 GS.

  • Flash 8 Pro freezes on Mac G5, dual 2,5 GHz

Ever since I upgraded from Flash MX 2004 Professional to
Flash Professional 8 on my PowerMac G5 it doesn't run. All I can do
    is
open the software but as soon as I click on a menu or a
button, whatever, like changing the size it freezes instantly. I've
searched the forum and every possible place to find any answer that
can solve my problem but it seems like I'm alone with this, I can't
find any information anywhere. I've even tried to un-install and
re-install Flash again but same problem still occur - freezing. Has
anyone had the same problem on a Mac G5 with dual 2,5 GHz
processors, in that case – what did you do to solve the
problem? I'm out of ideas and can't figure out more.
    My specs are:
    PowerMac G5 (2005), dual 2,5 GHz processors
    Boot ROM-version: 5.1.8f7
    Systemversion: Mac OS X 10.3.9
    Kernel-version: Darwin 7.9.0
    1 GB RAM memory
    Apple 20" flatscreen, 1650 x 1050 pixles resolution
Flash Professional 8, upgrade (Flash worked fine before the
    upgrade!)
All other Studio softwares I upgraded run and work great,
    except for Flash.
Please help me, I need HELP!

I also have to add: I can't even click on Preferences in
Flash, nothing. It freezes instantly. It run as long as I don't
touch ANY button or menu in Flash, as soon as I do anything, touch
a menu or button Flash freeze.
Anyone know what to do? Or shall I throw it out and install
an earlier version like MX 2004 Professional, that version of Flash
    worked. Please, please, please... Help.

  • G5 Dual 1.8 GHz fans gradually go to full speed and stay there

My G5 Dual 1.8 GHz boots normally and quietly, with no freezes or panics. However, within a minute or so, I hear the fans begin to gradually gain speed. This continues for a couple of minutes until the fans reach maximum speed, making my room sound like a wind tunnel. This occurs with no programs running, just sitting idle at the Finder desktop.
I've checked the CPU & system temperatures using the shareware utility "Temperature Monitor 2.5" and everything is running cool, barely above room ambient, so there is no thermal reason for the fans to "take-off" like this as the heat pipes are doing their jobs to cool the CPUs.
There is no restriction on air flow around the case, and the acrylic side panel is installed. Interestingly, removing the side panel seems to have no effect on fan speed, whether installed or not ... maybe it's just the liquid cooled G5s, but isn't removing the side panel suppose to force the fans to full speed?
I was wondering if this out of control fan speed is a known issue that can be resolved with either a firmware update or software patch? Does this indicate the need for a thermal recalibration?

I've since answered my own question on this ... The reseller had installed OSX 10.3.2 as the boot OS. The (Late 2004) DP 1.8 GHz G5 requires 10.3.5 minimum, and with that update, the problem went away. The G5 now runs quietly.
This was far simpler than I had expected. Thanks.
