Software for M4V Files on Pocket PC

Does anyone know of any type of software that can be used on a Pocket PC in order to play M4V files?

After a brief search of Best Buy's inventory, I don't see any software that offers that sort of functionality.
However, Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 offers that functionality natively. Merely set the child up with a limited account and enable parental controls, and a log of where they have been, what they have done, will be created. You can even limit the content they have access to.
https://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/features/parental-controls.aspx
I am a Bestbuy employee who volunteers on these boards on my own time. I am not paid for posting here, and you should understand that my opinions are exactly that - opinions. I do not represent Bestbuy in any way.

I can't open the RAW files from my new Nikon D4s camera in photoshop? How do I download the latest software for RAW files? Cheers!

What version of Photoshop are you running?  You will need at CS5, CS6, CC or CC2014.  Each version needs a different ACR-plug-in to open files from that camera.
If you are on CS4 or earlier, you'll need to upgrade—or, in the alternative; look for, download, instal, launch and run the free, stand-alone DNG Converter 8.6 on each file of raw NEF files to convert them to raw DNGs first so you can open them in your version of Photoshop and ACR plug-in higher than 2.4.

  • Free software for .pps files

I've been using Microsoft Office PowerPoint but lately half of files freeze.
Is there a free software for .pps files?
    Thank you

There are free viewers available for .pps files.
Here is one I found--all you have to do is search for "powerpoint viewer mac os x" or some such variation:
    http://www.tonicsystems.com/products/viewer/.
However, don't you think it would be a better idea to try and figure out why Powerpoint freezes on half your files?
You might want to find Microsoft Powerpoint forums over at Mactopia and ask some questions there.

  • Best free / cheap software for zipping files?

Is there any free / cheap software recommended for zipping files that works well with a Mac?

OS X includes an utility to compress and decompress ZIP files. It's called "Archive Utility" and it's stored on /System/Library/CoreServices, but you have to modify some settings.
To access to this utility, open a Finder window, select Go menu (on the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and type /System/Library/CoreServices. Then, open "Archive Utility".
By default, this app compresses files in a CPGZ file, but you can modify this. Go to Archive Utility menu (on the menu bar) > Preferences, and choose "Zip archive" next to "Use archive format".
Then, to compress files, just close the Preferences window, and go to File menu (on the menu bar) > Create Archive. Finally, choose with the Command key the files you want to compress, and press "Archive", so a ZIP file will be created

  • Translation Software for .pdf files

I have an instruction book in French which I want to translate to English in pdf format, I have Adobe reader 9 and can dump the text into a primitive translation software which is only suitable for Hi and Hello use, which loses the guide images.
I have seen $400 software which can handle this problem but is there anything better?
Many thanks for any help from David.

We  are still very, very far from seeing a decent automatic translation program, so I wouldn't expect much in that respect. Also, PDF files are sort of terminal files, no meant for further manipulation, so it is not at all easy to reconstruct the original file from which a PDF file was made. I have read of some programs that claim to do this, or at least to convert them in Word files, but don't know if they are up to what they claim. Finally, translating directly in a copy of the PDF file is simply a nightmare.
Can't you contact the author of the PDF and try to obtain a copy of the file from which thePDF was made? This seems to me the easiest and most reliable way of doing what you want.

  • What is the best cheap/free search and replace software for .xml files?

Transferring my iTunes library from PC to Mac I have reached the stage where I want to edit the .xml file from PC file paths to Mac ones - which would be the best preferrably free software to do this on?

Perhaps my comment in your other thread will help.

PS I don't know about the Mac, but Notepad++ will probably do your search & replace on the PC if you have to edit the XML.

  • .m4v file icons have become solid white in Finder under iTunes 10.6.3

    Hi there,
I just discovered this little annoyance... I thought I'd seen the last of it under a prior version of iTunes, but it may have come back.
iTunes video files (.m4v container files) have suddenly defaulted to a plain white icon in the Finder - desktop, folders, etc. - upon updating to iTunes 10.6.3.  The generic blue "notes" icon with "M4V" has disappeared, and will not reappear upon attempting to clear out the icon during a Get Info.
Strangely, if "Show icon preview" is checked under Finder's View Options, it will display any associated album art with the .m4v file correctly - it just so happens that something occurred with the default icons.
I rebuilt the Launch Services just in case, and these files by default still open with iTunes as per usual.  Checked for corrupt .plist files (even trashed com.apple.finder.plist) and cleared some caches out, ran maintenance scripts, etc. to cover any possible loose ends, but this issue is still present.
I recently upgraded to Lion 10.7.4 (long time SL holdout) but everything was normal under iTunes 10.6.2 - so I cannot determine whether this is a Lion issue or an iTunes issue.  I am going to post this in the iTunes forum as well, but has anyone else noticed this recently?  If so, what did you do to fix this?
    Thanks all,
    Steve

That's the point to where I was getting - without icon previews, the default icon for .m4v files should be the following:
(This was just taken from my wife's MacBook Pro, still on iTunes 10.6.2 but running Snow Leopard 10.6.8)
Under Lion (10.7.4) and iTunes 10.6.3, the default icon (no previews) is empty white, which I do not believe should be - I had the above generic icon for .m4v files in Lion under 10.6.2.
Yet iTunes-associated audio files are fine: (from my iMac)
    Strange, isn't it??

  • H.264 Blu-Ray rendered .m4v files won't playback in any media player except Adobe software

Hello guys and thank you in advance for your help. I am going to pull my hair out!
I had to reinstall Windows 7 and am experiencing an issue that is driving me crazy. All of my 720p H.264 Blu-Ray.m4v files rendered with After Effects will not play in any player I try in Windows. I've tried Windows Media Player, VLC, and Media Player Classic. I've tried with a clean install and no other codecs except those included with Windows 7. I've tried installing additional h.264 codecs. I've tried installing ffdshow and other codecs as well and no matter what I do, the files will not play at all.
The only way I can preview the file it to load it in AE or Encore or something similiar. Unfortunately, this is not the best solution for me. I'd love to be able to preview the files quickly and efficiently through Windows Explorer / Media Player without opening Adobe software. I don't think that's too much to ask.
Another issue is that before I reinstalled Windows that these files played back just fine in Windows Media Player! I don't know why it was working and now it's not on a clean install. All of the hardware is the same. On the original working install, I don't recall installing any additional codec packs or anything. It just worked...
Regular .mp4 H.264 files (not Blu-Ray) play just fine in all players. Something the Blu-Ray spec is doing to the file causes it to not work. And changing the extension to mp4 does nothing.
Please tell me what I am doing wrong! Is it something with the Mainconcept codec? Is it something with my drivers? What am I missing?!?

Thanks for the suggesstion Mylenium, but that didn't help either.
I installed PowerDVD which came with the Blu-Ray drive, and also a trial of ArcSoft's Blu-Ray player, and neither would play the files.
Any other suggestions? This is killing me. I don't understand why they would play before and not now. The files arne't corrupt. Even new rendered outputs in the same preset won't play. They'll load into Encore just fine though and even are listed as "Don't Transcode", so I know the files themselves are okay.
Could it have anything to do with drivers? I was testing an Nvidia video card with my last build and now I'm just using a Sandy Bridge chip with Intel's on-board video. But I do remember even when I took the Nvidia card out and just ran on-board video the last time, the files still played fine...

  • Best software for converting mvk files for apple tv?

I have lots of MVK video files on my Mac which I would like to play via Apple TV. Is there anyway I can play these through Apple TV without converting?
If not what is the best software/settings to use to convert these to maintain video and sound quality of the MVK file?
    Thanks

MKV files usually have H264 video inside them already, and audio is either AAC, AC3 (preferable) or DTS.
Conversion is really easy. You could try MKV tools, but I've found audio sync issues, especially when converting sound from DTS.
Ffmpeg (command line) works the best.
You can get great instructions here (http://www.martinlos.com/?p=41) for getting that set up.
Once everything is properly set up, you can generally convert with lines like this:
    ffmpeg -i input.mkv -vcodec copy -acodec ac3 -ac 6 -ar 48000 -ab 320k ouput.m4v
What that does is tell ffmpeg to use file 'input.mkv' and copy the audio codec (assuming it's H264, which if it's an MKV, it likely is) and to convert the audio codec to AC3, 6 channels (5.1) at 48000 hz, at 320k bitrate. The output m4v file is what you'll use on your Apple TV. Conversion usually takes a few minutes.
You can get info about the mkv by typing ffmpeg -i input.mkv. That'll tell you what type of video you're dealing with, and what type of audio.
There's additional nuances, like removing metadata and chapters, but all of that can be found with a simple google search.
    Good luck!

Why can't I update my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1? Every time I try it gets all the way done downloading it; however when it's processing the file the page tells me "There is a problem downloading the software for the iPhone. Network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active. or try again later." and next to the file it has err = -3259. I have tried this 17 times and it won't work. My iTunes is completely up to date. I have made sure that my connection is fine and I have tried turning my firewall off with no avail. This has happened to me before but usually the update will go through after 2-3 tries, never to this extent. I don't know what to do. Help!

Error -3259 is a network timeout error, usually. This article might help:

    Hi cberistain,
Follow the steps below, and let me know what happens?
    Step one: Clear temp directory
Type %temp% in the run or search for programs and files field
Highlight all the files in this folder, and then press the delete key to delete. If you get a message that the file is in use you will need to skip this file(s).
    Continue with Step 2 below
Step two: Downloaded and extracted to your system:
    1. Download the full feature software and drivers
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-77039-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...=
    2. Once the download is finished double click on the file to extract the software.
    3. When the installation window opens press the cancel button to stop the installation
    4. Type %temp% in the run or search for programs and files field
    5. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)
    6. Right click on the folder, and select Copy
    7. Close that window, and all your open windows, and then in the middle of the desktop right click your mouse, and select Paste. This will move the 7z folder to your desktop.
    8. Open the 7z folder you just copied to your desktop
    9. Open folder Util
    10. Open folder CCC
    11. Run the uninstall_L4
    12. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
    13. Run Disk cleanup from Accessories\ System Tools folder under all programs
    14. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player
    http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
     15. Open the 7z folder, and then double click on the Setup.exe file which will be toward the bottom of the open window. Follow the on screen instructions to reinstall your printer.
Let me know if you are able to successfully install the software and driver, and are able to print & scan?

  • Adobe encore the software that's used to decode the media is not available on this system. installing the correct decoders for the file you are working with may help correct the problem

    Hi,
I got this message after importing about ten or so H.264 files that I encoded from Adobe media encoder.  "adobe encore the software that's used to decode the media is not available on this system. installing the correct decoders for the file you are working with may help correct the problem."
The files we're shot with HD cameras.  Edited in Premiere Pro CS3.  I installed the update 3.0.1 with still the same error.
I also tried a brand new project and after about ten or so files being imported into a timeline, the system crash.  I tried this twice....
        Thanks in Advance

    Hi Hunt,
Here is the skinny.  A window base PC.  footage shot with HD sony HD cameras,  Project imported to Premiere CS3.  Once completed sent file to Adobe media encoder and render them as H.264 widescreen high Quality.  Imported them to Adobe Encore CS3.  After about ten files or so.  I got the error message.  Did all the basic trouble shoot like restarting the computer, got latest patch.  Even build a new test project with the same problem.
Something else I read in the forums, is the encore will transcoded the project to Mpeg 2 anyway, after looking at my project I realized those few files were indeed untranscoded.  So it will be a double compression and I dont want that.  So, my new question is, what is H.264 good for ?????????? I was research that Mpeg 2 is a faster render but H.264 is a slower render but better quality.....
       what do you think ????

  • All .m4v files only import for 1 second (PRE 9/Windows 7)

    Hi,
I'm a new PRE 9 user and am experiencing a really significant problem with importing .m4v files: Every .m4v I select ends at the 1-second mark and there does not seem to be any way to make the program see past that 1-second mark in the source file. Other file formats I've tried seem just fine, but most of the source material I want to use is already in .m4v files and have to think that this is some kind of bug.
Does anyone know what's going on here--and, more importantly, how to fix the problem so I can access the entire content of the .m4v files I want to use in PRE 9?
Thanks a lot and take care,
    Alan

    Hi Hunt,
Thanks for the rapid reply (and the welcome too). I think most of the files came from Handbrake (importing DVD content) if memory serves. All these .m4v files play just fine in Windows Media Player, QuickTime Player, etc.
I opened the properties for the last .m4v I tried to use (this morning) in PrE and the properties are listed as follows....
    Type: MPEG Movie
    File Size: 566.6 MB
    Image Size: 718 x 370
    Pixel Depth: 32
    Frame Rate: 90000.00
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - compressed - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Total Duration: 00;00;01;09
    Average Data Rate: 425.3 MB/second
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.1847
MediaInfo documents the same (.m4v) files properties as....
