Software for running Flip movies

I have some Flip movies which I have transferred from my (now redundant!!) Toshiba PC to a USB stick. When I try to run them on my new MacBook Pro it says...
The document “001 Gatwick to Grand Canyon.wmv” could not be opened. The movie is not in a format that QuickTime Player understands.
Does anyone know what is the best software that I can download which will enable me to run the Flip movies?

You might try using Perian - CNet Downloads or MacUpdate. I'm not positive but it may provide support for .wmv files so they can play via QT. Otherwise look for a way to convert them. For example, Handbrake.

Video Encoding/Capture software for Quicktime movie format

Hi,
We are exploring using the Quicktime .mov format for encoding live video & audio. It seems that QuickTime for Windows only allows recording Audio. The new Movie Recording option under the File menu which is present in the Mac version is not available on the Windows version. I want to find out if anyone knows of any good encoding software for the Quicktime .mov format. We want to record in either H.264 format or better quality and we want to use 240 kbps (or better) data rate.

youtube videos have a certain size, allow certain framerates, and get converted into flash-video format.. therefore, the input-format should fullfill some minimum quality ...

Just realized that there is no scrolling functionality with the .swf generated from the new CS5. Can anyone help out by providing revised code for centering and scrolling?
I found something elsewhere in the forums that worked for both centering and scrolling that worked fine yesterday, but upon visiting my site today for testing, it did not allow the scrolling, and centering did not work in Firefox. Tested both Safari and Firefox on 2 Macs running Snow Leopard.
Again, much appreciated - nice to visit forums where people are interested in helping instead of screaming at each other. Will visit the Illustrator or Indesign forum to see if I can help out someone there...

This freezing reminds me of really old Macs, long ago, in the days of the old-school peripherals like SCSI drives, terminators, scanners and the like. If you had a SCSI conflict, like the wrong device ID's or something, you'd freeze up like that. Back in those days you'd call 800-SOS-APPLE (AAPL?) and they'd run you through disconnecting all your extra hardware - Jaz and Zip drives, CD burners, scanners etc and then eliminate them one by one by adding them incrementally and testing for the freeze/bomb dialog.
But, today we have Firewire and none of those ancient issues (no free lifetime tech support either). My iMac's ports are all full, and I only know which devices are connected when I have to remove something for another device. iSight, scanner, card reader, external hard drive, USB soundsticks, etc. You wouldn't happen to have any SCSI devices hooked up, would you?
Out of curiosity, have you tried a different USB/Firewire port for the hard drive? Or run the hardware test DVD that comes with your computer? This weird freezing seems to suggest a problem with the computer, RAM or network more than a device. Bad devices, in my experience, cause kernel panics, not freezing.

Apple only supports Windows on certain hardware.

Apple provides their framework for Windows to run on a Mac, a piece of software called a Hybrid MBR that bridges the gap between how Windows reads the drive partition table (MBR) and EFI/GUID partition table that Mac's use.
It doesn't mean Windows can't run on your Mac, a third party solution called rEFIt will also bridge the gap and allow booting of more that just Windows, Linux as well for a triple booting computer.
Your hardware has to meet the other requirements the second and third operating system needs as as being able to install drivers that will work for your hardware, especially the fans or they will run loud and fast by default.

This above is a advanced procedure which requires knowledge how computers and various operating systems, drive formats and so forth work.
I even admit I don't know everything myself, but I experiment on a separate piece of Mac hardware (out of warranty/AppleCare) designed for this purpose so in case something screws up I'm not taking down my only machine and can use the other to get online and find solutions.
There is a very high potential for losing your data if your using advanced/non-Apple methods to install Windows on your only Mac where Apple doesn't support it. Also one shouldn't be doing this on Mac hardware that is under AppleCare or warranty as it might be voided. Proceed at your own risk and education.

There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
   1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows
         XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7. For Boot Camp
         4.0 and above you can only use Windows 7 or later. Follow
         instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on
         installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and
         installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the

         It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM
         Fusion.
Note that VirtualBox, Parallels, and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. Maybe because it's not a 'genuine' retail version? Many OEM versions just don't work - and I've no idea which flavor of Win7 your friend downloaded. Obviously one that Boot Camp doesn't recognize. Best to just pony up the cash for a full retail version, of some flavor - and use it. You COULD, of course, download the 14-day trial version of Parallels Desktop and see if you can install Win7 as a virtual machine... it might or might not work. Boot Camp just isn't finding the resources it needs on the copy you have - try Parallels and if that doesn't work just purchase a retail (or student discounted) version.

When i go to the microsoft store and click windows 8.1 it says it is only for who has windows xp or vista...
can you tell me where and how can i purchase the full installation 8.1 for download?
i will keep the ISO file on my flash drive.

i like to use iSquint which is a free, slimmer version of Visual Hub...

I need free network analyzer software for my mac. we are trying to monitor what software may be running which is causing our internet to fail, although the internet is still coming into our modem.what is recommended?

My internet keeps 'tripping' at or around the same period time each day. We have already replaced our modem from our internet provider and we bought a new airport extreme router. We do not believe these were the cause, although we have now ruled them out as a cause. Everytime the internet fails, our internet provider company tells us that there is still plenty of signal coming into our house. There is something going on inside we believe, and a technician set up our Network Utility to run a continuous ping test to capture information about when it 'trips' againn. Yesterday, it happened again, and when he checked the data out, he said he is sure there is something 'running in the background' on my IMac. He advised me to download a free Network Analyzer so he could further investigate what is was that was causing the problem, so I need a free network analyzer software for my Mac. The issue has been going on for a long time, so it is not the new operating system, Lion. This morning, we changed the radio channel from 'auto' to 'manual' and set a new channel, hoping that might help. We are trying to find out what program may be running (even a tiny one in the background) which is causing our internet to fail, although the internet is still coming into our modem. What is free downloadable product is recommended?

Will Activity Monitor and/or Network Utility, both already in the Utilities folder on your Mac, help in trying to diagnose the problem.
If you are connecting via wifi what encryption are you using? If you're using the Exteme I doubt that you are using WEP, but worth checking as it seems Macs don't like it and work better using WPA.

I help run tournaments but using excel for pool play and the web for bracket play, but if wifi is not available I have no way of running brackets for prize play.
