Software for the HP SimpleSave md1000h External Hard Drive

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting a question, so i got a hp simplesave md1000h external hard drive that it was given to me by a friend it was working fine, couple weeks ago i let my aunt do a back up on her computer and when i got it back only the auto run was available but nothing else. Im thinking that she erased the rest of the hard drive information or she deleted everthing without knowing how it works.  Is there anyway i can fix it? like getting a new software for it so i can start from scratch, please feel free to contact me donaltalv_9  hotmail. thanks.

Hi Don, The SimpleSave drive is no longer supported as you may already know and as such, the download links were taken down. This user has posted the driver files on the link below and thus, you can simply add them back into the drive directly to replace the missing files.HP-SimpleSave-md1000h-External-Hard-Drive Those are copies he saved from the original download. They are not mine nor HP's.

  • (New thread) HP SimpleSave md1000h External Hard Drive - Can't Access Files,

New thread on same old unaswered issues from others.
My desktop crashed.  It  needs new harddrive.
I religiously backup my info everyweek on my simplesave md1000h
However, before I buy a new computer or replace the harddrive on my old computer, I want to at least get my Quicken Checking account info up and running on my wife's  laptop.
When I plug in the usb for the md1000h into the laptop,
it recognizes the  hardware is there but, does not show any files.
I presume my laptop needs the software to run the simple save.
However, there is nothing out there on the HP site.
Can anyone confirm that this is the issue...that I need the software...if so, where can I download it from.
I beleive the softweare came preloaded on the md1000....now I cant access that software....go figure.
Any help is appreciated.   Thanks.  Greg

I too have the exact same problem on my HP SimpleSave (sd500a) external hard drive. I got through to WDC, and they apparently support these devices now. They asked me to send them a copy of my purchase receipt in order to extend my warranty in their system in order to help me (ridiculous!!). I sent the scanned copy of the receipt to [email protected], and got an auto-reply that they will get back to me within 1 day. I also went on their website, and they refer to the device in their system as 'ED Caviar Blue EIDE Hard Drive'. It has the same serial number as my product from HP, so I guess they have acquired these products or at least support of them (?). In any case, I'm freaking out because I have tons of family pictures, video and my entire iTunes library on the device. If any one is able to get help for this, please respond. I am desperate to get this resolved.

  • Best (Reliable for the Price) Firewire 400 External Hard Drive for iMac G5?

    Howdy,
I have an iMac G5 2.0 GHz (non iSight) running OS 10.4.4. I am looking for an external hard drive with around 250 GB in capacity with a Firewire 400 connection.
I am looking at the Lacie FA Porsche 250 GB, Lacie d2 250 GB and the Maxtor One Touch II 300 GB.
I have read reviews and it is a mixed bag; FA Porsche gets hot and all three don't mount at times.
Nevertheless, anyone have any first hand experience that can give recommendations (positive or negative)?
Anyone with an iMac G5 have success with a different external hard drive than mentioned here?
Anyone have any intel on the new Maxtor OneTouch III?
    Cheers,
    Chuck

I have heard mixed things about all those drives, but I suppose that will be the case with anything. Someone always gets a good one while others gets a bad one - LOL!
I have used drives from OWC for my Mac and PC for a while now and never had a mounting issue with them under either platform. I never have had to update firmware or drivers either when I updated the OS. Nice drives and not bad prices either.
You can save a little money by buying their enclosures and adding your own ATA drive to it. There are some great deals out there on bare drives from lots of places, and these kits are very easy to assemble.

There is no setting in the iPhone to set another default music player. The default is Music. If you are using another application, you are at the mercy of how that application operates as far as what occurs when it stops or errors out. The car is looking for music to play.

  • I have an old Mac Tower.  I need to move data from the unit to an external hard drive. What kind of hard drive do I purchase.  There is not a lot of data to be transferred.

I have an old Mac Tower.  I need to move data from the unit to an external hard drive.  What kind of of hard drive must I purchase so that it works with the Tower?  There is not a lot to transfer.

    MG,
What we might need to do is to change the question.  What computer do you plan to use the data on in the future?  For example, if you have a newer tower, just move the hard drive to the new tower.  If you want to use the data, what about an ethernet LAN to get the data over?  If you want to archive the data, how do you store the second drive?  What are your plans for the first drive?  If the new software will not recognize the old file type, the data must be exported.  Just getting files to another hard drive will not finish your journey.
As Allan said, knowing the exact model and year of your tower is important.  My suggestion is to find a user group near you.  Please post back with more information, including the name of a large city near you.
For example, our user group just experimented with a 1983 Apple IIc that predates the Mac.  It started right up, read files from 1984  and saved them from a 5.25" floppy to a 3.5" floppy.  That 3.5 floppy will go into a platinum G3 which will read PRODOS files using Apple File Exchange.  That G3, with a USB card, will allow saving the files to a USB flash drive.  But, somewhere along the way, some software has to read the file and convert it to data that is useable by current software.

  • HT3275 Time machine at home and it will not allow me to remove the listing of my external hard drive from the excluded files list.

Please help guys, I have a Time machine at home and it will not allow me to remove the listing of my external hard drive from the excluded files list.
I am trying to use time machine to back up the hard drive. For backing up from Macbooik pro and Imac, there is no problem. It seems to not want to allow the external drive to be removed from the Excluded list and as such will not back up from it.
Is there a way to be able to transfer files (music, movies etc) to time machine, format the external drive then put the files back to hard drive?
Sorry it is a long winded question but it is driving me nuts that I cant sort this out.
The <Macbook and Imac are both running mountain lion.
    Thanks Guys

As for the hard drive to which you have never been able to write, is it by any chance in NTFS format? OS X can read NTFS for importing files, but it does not contain code for writing on an NTFS volume. That's a choice, not a bug.
There is third-party software available to install NTFS-writing capability into OS X. An example is Paragon NTFS for Mac OS X. Another alternative would be to use a disk format that both Macs and Windows systems can use for both reading and writing; this would require either a new drive or erase the existing data.
If by "the new system software" you mean OS X 10.9 Mavericks, you may want to repost that portion of your query in the Mavericks forum at https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/os_x_mavericks . I haven't made the leap yet.
I don't know what other problems you have been having, so I cannot comment on them. You don't seem to have any other recent postings on these forums.

  • One of the folders on my external hard drive has transformed into a unix executable file and I can no longer access my files. Is there any way to save the data?

One of the folders on my external hard drive has transformed into a unix executable file and I can no longer access my files. Is there any way to save the data?

Wow, have seen Files do that, but a whole Folder as I recall!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • How can I play the music on my  external hard drive with my laptop?

Look before everyone points out that this has been asked lots of times before, I wanted to state that in this particular case it might be a little bit more complicated. You see I think I've been an idiot.
I backed up all my physical music onto my external hard drive, but only the physical music. So now I have my nice new laptop and haven't got a clue how to play the music off my external hard drive, since I don't have an itunes library on my external hard drive.
Anyway any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

Am I being a plonker, but it doesn't seem as simple as that. If I try and import via itunes it seems to want me to select the individual music file not the folder which holds all the music.
Also if I simply import it, won't my mac copy the files from my external hard drive back on to my laptop? Which makes me think I change the location where all the music is stored in itunes...?
    Thanks for the help!

  • How do i restore my phone using the ipsw from an external hard drive

I am currently deployed to Afghanistan and don't have very good signal.  One of the guys thought it would be funny to change my passcode, and then forgot it.  Now my phone is disabled, and the computer I used to set it up is in the states.  The signal here is too week to download the Iphone update software via iTunes(keeps losing signal partway through and restarting the download).  Its 802MB so I spend seven hours at the computer lab to download the ipsw to an external hard drive.  I used the instruction I found via google to restore the phone, and its not working.  Itunes keeps trying to download it again.  Not sure how to make itunes read the downloaded version.  Also its not my computer, so I logged into my apple ID on his itunes.  Does this create part of the problem.  When unzipping the file some of the files were encrypted.  Maybe thats part of the problem?
    Please help if you can.

    Hi joehazelton,
If you have already got the ipsw file, (assuming that it's a latest version or the version on your iPhone at least), you can try the following:
If you are using a Windows 7 PC:
Go to C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
If you are using a Windows XP:
    C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates
    If you are using Mac:
~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/[can't recall the folder name]
Once you locate this folder, copy the ipsw file to this location. Then try to restore your iPhone.
    Please post your feedbacks!

  • APPLE TV (GEN 2): How to view the movies on my external hard drive?

    Hello,
I have a Macbook Pro, with Itunes. I already know how to set-up HOME SHARING with the APPLE TV that allows me to view my Itunes library from my TV.
But on my laptop, with the FRONT ROW feature, I set-up a ALIAS in the movie folder on my computer so that the files from my external hard drive were viewable from the movies folder in FRONT ROW. This great feature now allows me to view my content on my laptop (on Itunes) and the movies on my external hard drive, all on FRONT ROW on the Macbook Pro.
When I opened and set-up the Apple TV (Gen 2), I was surprised that it isn't like FRONT ROW. Instead, it only allows the content on my Itunes to be viewed.
This is a downside because I have only 35 GB free on my internal hard-drive, and all of 350+ GB of movies are on my EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE (Western Digital MY BOOK). Also, the movies files on my external hard drive are .AVI, .M4V, and .MP4
Another question I have is what is the USB port on the back of the APPLE TV for? Can it be used for the external hard drive or no?
Basically, I want to watch all the movies from my external hard drive on my TV.
Can I set this up to happen and how?
If not, what should I do to be able to watch the movies from my computer/external hard drive on my TV?
*Please share as much information as you all can because I need to view all my options (if any) in this situation and I value all the advice....THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!*
    EQUIPMENT:
    Laptop: MACBOOK PRO 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB 1067 MHZ DDR3 MAC OS X 10.6.6
    Apple TV: Gen 2
TV: Vizio 37" HDTV HMDI LCD
External Hard Drive: Western Digital MY BOOK (USB 2.0 + Firewire)

I followed exactly what you advised, and it all worked. I did convert the files first that were .AVI ---> .MP4 (the audio and video came out beautifully when viewed). I organized my files around a bit, and then I went into Itunes---> Preferences---> Advanced---> Changed where I want to grab my movies from. It keep all my previous music, tv, movies, podcasts files that I had in ITunes, and just "added" the new content without disrupting anything in my Itunes at all. I LOVED IT...so simple in the end.
The files did take a while to convert, but I only had to do the ones that I had that were labeled ".AVI". The program, HAND BRAKE, allowed me to set up a "batch" and I had them converting during the afternoon and into the evening.
    All in all....THANK YOU/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png/___sbsstatic__ _/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/ migration-img-not-avail.png/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-a vail.png/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png/___sbsstat ic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png/___sbsstatic___/migration-ima ges/migration-img-not-avail.png
Since whenever I open my Itunes, all the movies display well, and so my APPLE TV can now view all my "content" in Itunes. I thought I was going to have to return that APPLE TV since I couldn't figure a way around it, and all in all, it wasn't all that bad of a process to convert and then change file location in preferences.
MANY THANKS and HAVE A GREAT WEEK

is there a way we can change the path of the songs to an external hard drive when we move the songs over?   also, is there a way to delete multiple songs easily?
I recently moved my songs over for hard drive space.  Really don't want to have to go back through each album, etc... to get that to work.
Last time I tried making a "library" that didn't work either.
On the topic of deleting multiple songs that are the same, is there an easier way then to select each one?
Seems to me apple isn't user friendly

Welcome to the world of digital media. Your can't really transfer it. I don't know what the rules are about transferring to your spouse but I do know that in some cases when you die, your heirs cannot inherit your digital media. This is why there is still an advantage to buying the CD since the usage rights belong to whomever holds the physical media.
A possible workaround is to burn the songs to a music CD with yout account (tracks only without song titles) and then having your wife upload it as a regular music CD onto her account. It's been a while since i've done this so I'm not sure if it would work now.
Please note that I'm not advocating copyright and/or TOS violations. I'm only suggesting ways to copy music for your own personal use which has traditonally been permitted. I only did this because I wanted to convert iTunes songs to mp3 files so I could burn them onto a data CD for use in my car. It would make sense that since married couples are a joint entity, this would be personal use.
Also, I'm not a lawyer so don't take this as legal advice.

If you have been backing up on Timemachine.
All you need to do is enter time machine... Then the rest is obvious.
Find the iTunes folder and hit 'Restor'.
If not the only way to get all your iTunes music back is to enter iTunes Store.
On the right hand side you should see 'Purchased'.
Click 'purchased' and there you have it.
