Software for VHS/Video 8 Transfer onto Mac

Hi. I am looking for some software to be able to transfer footage from our old cancorder, which I think is mini video 8, onto our Mac. I am a a complete novice at this type of thing so don't want anything to whizzy but I am willing and able to learn! Any advice greatly appreciated. Thank you :0)

Hi,
There is no software that will do this. You need a hardware device called an analog-digital converter. The Canopus ADVC-110 is a good example that is used by many people in these forums.
You would connect the a/v out from your camcorder or VCR to the converter, and connect the converter to your Mac via firewire. Then when you play the videotape in your camcorder or VCR, you can capture the video using iMovie or Final Cut.

  • Software for All-In-One 3210 Mac 10.6.8

I am trying to install a bluetooth to my All-In-One printer. Sounds pretty simple from what I have read on the HP site. My issue isn't with this. Though this printer works with my Macbook Pro, I have never needed to install the software. Now that I want to install the software, the CD is of course missing, and I cannot locate the correct software for my Macbook. My Mac is currently 10.6.8. I read this same question somewhere else on this form and they said to download a different verison. 10.2.8 I believe. Tried that, failed. Installer didn't even recongize the 3210 printer and only gave me the option for a 4000 and 3000 verison. So, any clues on to what I need to do? To be more clear, I need the 3210 software for the Mac 10.6.8 verison. Help please?! I'm dying to set up a wireless printer.

    Hello Bethany5082,
Thanks for the post. Good news, I was able to locate the driver download for this printer and OS X 10.6. I've included the link below. Good Luck!

  • Does creative cloud include any software for HD video screen capture?

Does creative cloud include any software for HD video screen capture? I know that Captivate is not offered but are there other software applications available that do the same job? I am not wanting to make tutorials but I am a filmmaker wanting to integrate sequences with screen capture (which I will edit on Premiere)

    Thanks Brian,
Spent some time yesterday doing research on this. There are good reviews and bad reviews for just about every screen capture application out there it seems.
The top-ten reviews gave their gold medal to CamVerce, which I'll probably buy today.
    http://video-capture-software-review.toptenreviews.com/
Yesterday I bought the Sonne Screen video which is rated 5th on the top-ten site. (I figured as I'm going to be editing on premiere I shoudn't need to pay for extra editing packages and as I'm not using it to create tutorials I really just want a good quality screen capture for Windows 8). However, I'm not really happy with the image quality on playback and I'm finding the technical assistance really poor from Sonne. I still haven't received an email confirmation from them.
The others that I thought sounded right for me were WM Capture (though the top-ten review had a few negative things to say about it).
Tried a couple of the free ones also. EZvid is very popular.
Will see how I go and let you know. I'm sure this is very subjective and I'm probably not being as clear as I need to be about purpose of use.

  • What is best mac and software for home video editing and creation

I am about to buy a mac to capture 30 years of photos, film, and video (multiple formats).
I want to then edit a series of videos to make movies to capture our family history.  I know I will have a lot of conversions to make and will use a local video transfer place to do that.
I am not worried about price.
My goal is to make a series 30 of DVD's each about 1.5 hours in duration.
I have a lot of organizing, editing, publishing and storing to do.  I know it will take me a long time.
I am about to purchase the mac and other things needed.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Dave

I do LOTS what you are about to do.
I think I can confidently say I have tried all software and the vast majority of video converters. Here is how I do it.
    Computer:   Mac Pro
Movie editor:  iMovie 06, (more expensive than iMovie 11 but well worth the price) I have iMovie 11, but I would not use it for making DVDs.
DVD authoring:  iDVD 09 / 11  ( iDVD has not changed in a couple of years, just make sure you're using iDVD 08 or later).
You will also need a A/D coverter. (Like the Grassvalley ADVC300)
I've played around with countless other conversion systems, ranging in price from $79 to $399. Short verison, this is the ONLY unit to own. No dropped frames at all, even with questionable quality tapes, no jitter, great color, excellent sound quality. Zero setup with iMovie 06 and iDVD 09/11.
This is a prosumer deck. The time code function is alone worth the price if you have old analog footage. Absolutely NO "Out Of Sync" audio.
ADVC300 is for anyone who wants to do editing and is concerned about quality of color and speed, for the novice it is an incredible gizmo that will restore VHS tapes to a state close to the original fixing midtones, highlights and shadows on the fly. Not only can you simply convert analog to digital you can actually manipulate the signal going in (if you want to).
A bit pricey but it WORKS.
    http://www.grassvalley.com/products/advc300
The program that comes with the ADVC300 has some nice filters that can improve video and audio of the source material.
I also own an Elgato EyeTV,  it's in a drawer somewhere. The ADVC300 gives much better results ESPECIALLY WITH TAPES.
iMovie 06 and iDVD 09 is 100% "lossless" combination and my DVD's look like they came from Hollywood!

  • Advice on sequence settings - frame size for VHS video in FCP

    Hello,
I was hoping that I could get some advice on editing and output for video captured from VHS Tapes to ensure the best quality possible.
My current workflow to digitize the VHS tapes is:
VHS signal from JVC S7600u with TBC into ADVC 300 (no de-interlace or other filters set) into a Mac Pro via firewire.  Capture preset in FCP is DV NTSC 48khz.
Once in FCP - the captured VHS video frame size is 720 X 480, Vid rate is 29.97, pixel aspect is NTSC-CCIR 601 and field dominance is lower (even)
    My questions are:
If my final destination is for You Tube sharing , are these the best sequence/ frame size settings or should I convert the sequence frame size to 640 X 480, or should I leave at 720 X 480 while working in FCP and then output to Compressor and select the H264 you tube sharing video setting and change the frame size to 640 X 480?
Should I de- interlace for internet/youtube destination?
    Should I de-interlace for DVD/TV destination?
If I want to burn the finished project to DVD and watch the video on a progressive montitor/ TV screen, what would be the best settings/frame size for that?
If any of you out there have experience with editing vcr/analog video in FCP and have a good workflow to ensure best quality, I would really appreciate  any advice/suggestions.
    Thanks in advance.

Digitize to 720X480 frame size in FCP. In compressor, your YouTube preset will automatically deinterlace and a square pixel aspect ratio. No deinterlacing for DVD.

  • Adobe Ink pen software for Windows?  Or just Mac?

I am in a pinch for time and knowledge, so I imagine someone can answer this quickly.  I want the Adobe Ink/Slide hardware and software for my IPAD - I think it has great functionality.
My second question is can I also use the Ink Stylus in the Windows environment too?  I see the "Adonit" Company actually manufactures the equipment for the Adobe program, so I wanted to know if I could interchange this digital stylus between my Mac's and Window's computers.  Or, do I need another style stylus such as the others that Adonit manufactures.  If you wouldn't mind, check out this website and let me know your feelings.  In other words, I need to digitally sign things in both the Mac and Windows environment both but I'd rather not go broke on hardware.

(for my IPADS - I'm assuming this hardware is not Windows compatible??)

(Do I need this one for Windows computers?, or is this stylus Windows based??)
Please advise, have a wonderful weekend.

Ink and Slide are not meant to be used with Windows or Mac computers, they are designed for use with iPad.

  • VHS tape transfer to Mac

    Hi,
I am wondering what is the best software package for transferring my old VHS taps on to my Mac and possibly for eventual download onto DVD ?
I have looked into it myself, but it seems like a mine field! Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

It's not a mine field at all but you're going to need some hardware in order to do it. I use a Canopus ADVC 100 which has been replaced by the ADVC 110 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=349146&gclid=CPGe-diw-MMC FQgxaQodY0YAYA&Q=&is=REG&A=details

  • Recommended software for file transferring offline between Mac 10.5.8 and iPhone 5?

I have an iPhone 5 and a Mac OS X 10.5.8 therefore I am unable to sync my iPhone with iTunes on my laptop.
I am looking for software which will allow me to transfer files to and fro between my iPhone and Mac without access to the internet.
I realise that I can import photos from my iPhone to my Mac computer through iPhoto but I would like to do the opposite of putting photos from my Mac onto my iPhone. I have found answers of using such software such as Dropbox but it seems that I would need to connect my Mac to the internet, which I am unable to do. I would also like to import music from my Mac onto my iPhone if possible.
Are there any software or programs that allows me to do this offline by simply plugging my iPhone to my Mac via the USB port? I would be willing to purchase a program at a decent price so long as it is cheaper than having to buy a new Mac computer!
I would be thankful for any advice.
    Cheers.

What about updating your Mac to OS X 10.6.8? That's only US $20 from Apple.

  • Recommended Software for YouTube video download

    Hi
What is the best software out there (bang for buck), free or fee that allows you to download youtube videos easily on your mac and eventually burn to DVD or other formats/hardware? I've run into TubeSock. One of the formats is a save to "Mac" but will I in turn be able to burn it on DVD afterwards? Thanks.

    Hi Tonden,
Your recommendation was right on. Thank you! I used TubeTV to download then MPEG Streamclip to convert for play on my Mac. I'd like to take these video files and burn them to my DVD. What is the format I should covert to in Streamclip for this? Can I burn multiple video clips to DVD? Do I use iDVD for burning? I guess I'm kind of confused between iDVD and imovie HD. Thanks.

  • Software for translating video files on my HD to ATV

I was using a free program called Videora, which stopped working. It also was very difficult to use as you had to do one file at a time etc. I then purchased Roxio 9 Crunch, which ostensibly is exactly what I needed. Unfortunately, the software is appalling and the support/service/refund policies are even worse.
What do all of you use to transfer files? I've got a ton of avi's, mpg's, etc on my hard drive and would like to be able to see them on my ATV.
I looked at QuickTime Pro but the user comments below it make me not want to try.
    Any help?

I agree with Winston on mpegstreamclip, especially the ease of use. It is also very flexible.
I used it to convert 60+ home movies. It has a feature where you can find the settings that works best for a group of files, queue them up and process them all at once with the same settings applied. I cant remember the exact process, will be using it again soon most likely but it was very easy to do the first time around. You will probably have to tweak it to your preference but you can save a profile of your desired settings so its good for that.
Like Winston said it also depends on what format your files are in. I had AVI files that I had generated from Sony Vegas which I had used 2 years ago to import my movies from my Mini DV cam corder. Since I didn't have the tapes I couldn't import the raw tapes into my mac. Also I had already sliced and edited the files which had taken a long time. They still look very good and definitely look better than the DVDs I had tried to make with the Vegas software. The less you compress / the fewer times you process or encode a file ...the better it will look.
edit: (for example, had I gone from mini-DV to AVI to MPG to DVD and then ripped the DVD to ATV format it wouldn't have looked as good as mini-DV to AVI to ATV format or even mini-DV to ATV format.) using multi-pass during a single encode is often done and recommended to ensure that a single encode provides optimum quality).
    Good luck with your encodes!
