  • DVR Software for Video Streaming

Subject: DVR Software for Video Streaming
I can purchase 4 video cameras. I can purchase a DVR.
However, I do not know who makes any software to take 4 video streams into the DVR and either
    (1) write them on a DVD which can be viewed on my G5, or
    (2) provide a LAN interface from my G5 to the DVR to download the files over the LAN to my hard drive and view (and potentially edit) them on my Apple G5 and monitor system.
The PC world requires a PC software with ActiveX which of course is not available on Macs.
If my need can't be fullfilled, then is there any reliable way of getting ActiveX operational on a MacOS 10.4 G5 system?
Will this become easier when Apple fully migrates to Intel chips. Can any of the Intel chip Mac systems sold by Apple today using MacOS 4.X be used with ActiveX (or equivalent)?
Now, aren't these interesting questions. Will Apple move into 2006 with a bang and provide a wireless DVR????

  • Looking for video tutorials??

i found a new site for GarageBand video tutorials.
    http://wikivid.com/index.php/GarageBand

Thanks for the heads-up. It seems to be a very useful collection of Instructional videos, especially for someone that is new to the app.
(some of the lessons were clearly done on earlier versions of GB than 3, but most of the info is still valid.)

  • What is the best software for video fish-eye/barrel reduction?

I recently bought a GoPro camera and would like to reduce the fish-eye/barrel effect on some of the video clips. I haven't been able to find any plug-ins or software for mac's that can do this. I was hoping to do all my video editing with iMovie but it doesn't seem to have everything I need. What do you recomend?

See this Wikipedia article for some encoders:

    Hi,
    I maintain a web site for a non-profit. I am looking
shareware software to show video clips in a gallery presentation
    layout.
Any recommendations or ideas would be appreciated.

iTunes 6.0.2 can do it for you if the video is already playable in iTunes. If not, search Google for Videora iPod Converter.

  • Need Software for Video Analysis

    Hi,
I'm looking for a software program that will help me analyse videos with my team. We play videos in full screen modus and I will like to mark things on the screen (Draw pointers, arrows, or lines) kind of like at the Superbowl or any Sports TV programm (When on full screen modus of course). Can anyone help me out here?
    Thanks,
    AK

    Hi Mike,
it would be great if you could help me out here.
We play standard Movies recorded during games and practice - full screen from mac to TV - and would like to draw on and mark certain parts during play as well as when on pause. Kind of use a standard telestrator as seen on TV. The problem we currently have is that we usually cannot do this when on full screen mode. You have numerous software programs and offers, but which one simply fulfills our needs?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

  • An advanced compressing software for video confrencing

I have recently developed a video confrencing software and I am using H264 codec for comprassion which helped me to connect 6 people at a time .
but I understand that I need a more advanced codec that is capable of compression to a much higher degree
that can help me to connect tens of people or possibly over hundred people at a time and offcourse this compressing software should work with flash.

However, on the new iMac and os 10.8.2 it does not allow installing programs via discs
    Sure you can!
The OS comes set with “Gatekeeper” activated.  This is designed to force you to purchase software through the App Store.
Most people I know disable gatekeeper, that way you can install software from anywhere.
Many software developers offer downloads on thier own web stores.  If you download software directly from the developer, not from the Apple App store.  Gatekeeper is simple to override for an individual app.
Personally, I find gatekeeper to be “junior high school” I have disabled it completely.
Open System Preferences > Security and Privacy > General, and choose "Anywhere" under "Allow applications downloaded from". You may have to press the padlock at the bottom left corner of Security and Privacy pane before being able to select Anywhere

  • Which software for video editing?

I am new to video editing. I will be going to college soon and I plan on studying Post-Production. I would like to eventually edit features, tv shows, and trailers (either one, or all).
What software should I get? I'm looking at Premiere, Avid and Final Cut Pro X.

For broadcast and film, the industry standard is Avid with Premiere in second. Avid's educational price is $295, just under FCPX at $299.
You should learn Avid, Premiere and FCPX. This will make you well rounded and able to work in any post-production environment, since different programs are used.
FCPX will be easy to pick up. Avid and Premiere might take a little time but the larger post houses use those (broadcast and film). So it is best to know all of them.
Editing is the same no matter what program you use, it's not about the software. The only difference comes in with workflow, where it will be shown (matching back to film for theatrical release, DVDs, Bluray, internet, etc.), how many editors are working on one project, etc. An award winning film can be edited on any of those NLEs. Some NLEs are just better for certain jobs than others.

  • Suggestions for video tutorials?

Newbie with the mac and FCE HD 3.5. I have an excellent book, but I am interested in watching video instruction first.
Any good training DVDs or training sites you can recommend? (lynda.com does not appear to have FCE training, only FCP)
I found one here that might be good?
    http://www.digitalmediatraining.com/products/fce2/index.html
    Thanks in advance.

I'm using one of Mastermind Tom's books to teach me FCE and it works like charme... ok, there's a slight language barrier (hey, Tom: you need a German translator? ... ) , but he has a very ... 'lively' (<< english?) way of explaining things.. lots of pics ... easy to follow..
plus a DVD, but mainly with demo files and a movie for iM>>FCE switchers...
I do prefer 'visual' learning too, but in this case, a book + a running app has for me a much better learning effect: better timing, better 'where is that button?!', better 'whooo - THAT looks good!' ...

  • Software for video transfers to DVDs

Hi, I was wondering if there is a simple software program available where I can transfer old VHS & 8 mm video tapes onto DVD? It would need to allow me to edit the material before putting it on the DVD. Please help me.
    Thanks.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Wellcome to the fprums !
About software, if you have iLife that's all you need: edit with iMovie and create your DVDs with iDVD. You can integrate iTunes audio and iPhoto pictures ealsily.
To capture analog video material (VHS & 8mm) you need some basic hardware, like Canopus ADVC-55:
    http://canopus.com/products/ADVC55/index.php
You can capture then directly trhough your firewire port. Of course you'll find another similar products (do your own search in the internet!) but you'll find a lot of good references in these forums about Canopus transcoders. I personally have a ADVC-100 and works great.
This forums is about DVD Studio Pro part of the Final Cut pro Studio. Of course this software suite will give you more options during editing and authoring DVDs, but I think you will be more than happy with iMovie and iDVD results !
    Hope it helps !

  • Software for video converting

Guys , I have some trouble finding some software that can convert .rmvb files to .avi files .
Do you guys have any recommendation of any software that can do this function ? Most preferable is free software but I am still willing to invest if it is a good one .

Realmedia files are streaming media files.
AVI are static video files normally.
As live streaming media files are usually licensed by their publisher, usually any conversion would necessitate violating the licensing terms of that video.
See the terms of use discussing video conversion when it comes to licensed videos. Your question falls on a murky ground.
If you prefer not to view in Realmedia, and view video by a publisher in AVI format, I would contact that publisher, and ask them to make a conversion of that video to a different video.

  • Apple's procedure for video tutorials?

Does anyone have any idea what process/procedures Apple uses to get their pristine tutorials of screen action? The action all seems perfectly real-time, they zoom in and out of areas seamlessly, the have magnifiers for close up looks, and they even output at HD sometimes (just watched the Aperture DVD tutorials in HD on my screen). I can't get anything close to that with Snapz Pro. It's a very effective method of presenting content. Anybody have any inkling how they do it? Thanks.

    Here's one...
    http://www.automaticduck.com/products/piae/PIAE4-FCPToAE.html
I've made similar movies (though silent) for tradeshow loops, so the output was larger obviously.
Snapz is set to its Movie default, Animation or something.
Then I make DV proxies to edit in FCP, so FCP is just set to DV NTSC.
Then I bring the cut sequence into AE via our Pro Import AE plug-in and replace the layers' sources with the high-res versions from Snapz Pro. Change the comp setting (if necessary) then start animating Scale and Anchor Point.
I once wrote some suggestions for doing this for Studio Monthly magazine...

The 3D perspective looks really nice.

*"Apple states this is possible, but I don't see much in the ARD manual about using Java viewers."*
As stated on the page you linked to...yes it's possible...with VNC client/server packages, not ARD.

  • I have looked through the video tutorials for CS6 and cant find any help for PHP using SQL.

Where is a good place that I can go to learn more about using dreamweaver and different languages than html.  Is there a service that adobe offers that I could buy that would take me from rookie all the way to professional with a good easy to use structure such as adobe tv but more advanced and thorough?  I am trying to build a website with a log in page and registration.  I have the HTML part down well enough but need help writing the php scripts and using SQL to store the user info

I'm moving this to the main Dreamweaver support forum.
In answer to your question, you need to be aware that the PHP server behaviors in Dreamweaver CS6 use the original MySQL functions that are scheduled to be removed from a future version of PHP. The server behaviors have already been removed from Dreamweaver CC. If you are planning to create a site using PHP and MySQL, do not rely on Dreamweaver's server behaviors. You must use either MySQLi (MySQL Improved) or PDO (PHP Data Objects) instead.
If you're looking for video tutorials, you might be interested in the courses I have created for lynda.com. As a beginner, a good place to start would be PHP for Web Designers or Introducing PHP (there are several sample videos that you can watch for free on my website). Both courses were recorded on Dreamweaver (PHP for Web Designers on Dreamweaver CS6, Introducing PHP on Dreamweaver CS5.5). PHP for Web Designers shows how to connect to MySQL with MySQLi. You need a subscription to lynda.com to watch the complete courses, but you can get a seven-day free trial by following the links on my website.
If you don't want to commit to a subscription service, I have also written a book called PHP Solutions, which covers MySQLi and PDO in depth. It also shows how to build a login system. At the moment, the second edition is available, but a revised third edition is due to go on sale in December.
There are also a lot of free resources on the web that you can find. The important thing to beware of is that a lot of old material relies on the original MySQL functions. Whichever resource you use, make sure it shows how to use MySQLi or PDO.
