Software install question
I'm a relatively new Mac user so I apologize if this is an elementary question or if I've posted in the wrong place.
I have an .exe sitting on my desktop that I need to install (PaintShop Pro). When I click it, it asks me which application I want to use. How do I install this software using the executable file?

Hi mia'sdad
The .exe file will not open on Mac OS X as it is a windows only executable file. The only way you are going to be able to install PaintShop Pro is to run windows on your MacBook Pro. You could always look for a similar programme on any of the following sites:

Welcome. What in the world did you do to deserve to be called Tator Salad?
How much memory? Does everything else work? Did you purchase the copies of FCE and FCP or did they come from the person that sold you the G5? If you did not purchase them is there any chance that they are bootlegs?

Flashing question mark/software install disc problem
Hello,
I'm getting the flashing question mark at reboot. I've followed these steps:
a. Insert the Software Install disc that came with your Mac.
b. Restart the computer and immediately press and hold the C key to start up from the disc.
c. When you see the Installer screen, choose Open Disk Utility from the Installer menu.
d. Select your hard disk volume in the left pane, click the First Aid tab, and then click Repair Disk.
e. When it's finished, restart your computer.
HOWEVER, when I restart my computer it STILL reads/loads from the install disc (as opposed to just booting from my hard drive). It's like a endless loop I can't get out of. Am I doing something wrong?
Any suggestions?

No disk burning software installed warning
My 12 year old Granddaughter needed some help with her iPod and a disk burning problem. The iPod was a snap, she probably knows more about it than I do! But the real problem is how I may have installed Panther on my old iMac 400DV which she now uses. When she wants to burn a CD from iTunes, the blank CD shows up fine ( including on the Desktop ) but she gets a warning that she can't burn the CD because there is "no disk/c burning software installed"!
Is it possible that I could have installed Panther and not installed the needed pieces to burn a CD?
I know I burned CD's in OS 9 before I upgrade the OS and gave her the iMac. Is it possible that the version of iTunes in her version of Panther is the problem? I don't know exactly which version she has of iTunes, but I see many posts here about 6.0.3 fixing burning problems. I'm using a plain jane 6.0 version in Tiger with no problems.
I just need to know what pieces to update/fix. As you can imagine, burning CD's for ones family is a big problem for some 12 year olds!You are totally correct, I discovered that after searching Apple spec sheets. I suppose that is why I bought a firewire CD burner! [headbash] Since I gave all the hardware ( iMac, scanner, etc, ) to my Granddaughter, I don't have it sitting here in front of my nose! So I'm claiming that and my age as the reason for the question!
And it was not custom ordered. Similar to my brain which is also the 'stock' model. Problem is, there are too few connections or too many bad 'cells'. Perhaps they need a faster refresh cycle, also.

After the installation did you restart the computer? If you go into Control Panel>Programs and Features do you see BlackBerry Desktop Software listed in the applications?
Did you have a previous version of BlackBerry Desktop Software installed?

Why can't Adobe do something as simple as giving us a desktop shortcut? Or even better allow us to access direct from print option as we could do if we had the software installed?
Now that I know you are talking about Cloud (not the focus of this forum -- a forum on Acrobat that does provide the icons and the reason for wondering what you were talking about). The Creative Cloud that I have does include the icons on the desktop. However, I am not familiar with the cloud service other than CC. If it is some other product, then exactly what is the product name. As far as CC, I get the icons on my desktop, so I am not sure what your problem might be.
If you did not like the tone, I am sorry, But I honestly had no clue what you were talking about because you only said that Adobe icons were not coming up. You provided no information on the product or operating system that are fundamental to providing help. Adobe (the company name) has about 150 forums dealing with different products probably numbering close to 100. So saying no Adobe icons was meaningless to me and thus the question. I was trying to get information to help you. If you took it as an insult, I am sorry. -

1. What is J2SE 5.0 Release 4, version 4.0 (39.3 MB) and, is it necessary to install?
2. What is X11 Update 2006, version 1.1.2 (51.0 MB) and, is it necessary to install?
In case you need to know, I have Mac OS X (10.4.8) with a Verizon FIOS connection.

iMac Mac OS X (10.4.8)J2SE 5.0 is the latest version of Java. Mac OS X originally ships with Java 1.4 and this gives you the opportunity to upgrade to the latest version.
It's an optional upgrade since there are many changes between Java 1.4 and java 5, so some people might prefer to hold off until they've verified their Java apps work with the new version. For most people, though, it isn't an issue.
X11 (also known as XWindows) is a standard GUI interface for Unix systems. If you're using X11 you'd probably alredy know about it and therefore wouldn't be asking this question. It's not going to cause any problems if you update it, but it won't offer any advantage unless you're running X11-based applications. -

3050A J611 full software install: Scan options gone under Win7; existed on Vista
Bought a HP 3050A J611 for my laptop running Windows Vista and loved all the scanner options provided via the Windows Desktop icon/HP Scan utility. Bought a refurbished HP Desktop running Windows 7(64-bit) Home Premium Service Pack 1, downloaded and installed
HP Deskjet Full Feature Software and Drivers ► 2011-05-23 , Version:23.0.0, 90.08M
but now I'm not seeing any of the scanning options nor the HP Scan utility. User error? Defect? Really need the full scanner functionality!

View Solution.Did the software install properly? Also have you checked the HP folder in the start menu for all the HP applications? In the mean time I suggest running the HP Print & Scan Doctor to see if it is able to find any specific installation errors or connection issues. If it does not resolve the issue, post back with any new details and we will continue from there.

I find "Retry Settings" in "Software Distribution Component Properties". But I think it work for Distribution, not the installation. am I right?First, are you referring to packages or applications because the behavior is different.
Also, why do you want it to retry a failure? It failed for a reason so you need to fix the cause of the failure first. If it failed the first, it will likely fail the next time for the same reason. In general, ConfigMgr will only retry on transient type
errors.

Vista to XP Driver and Software install N200 0687
Here's a guide I wrote up while I installed XP onto my laptop, it's been used by a few of my friends. It's specifically for the N200 0687 A31 but as a general guide it's best to install drivers and software in chronological order based on the date of the files on the lenovo site.
XP doesn't recognize the hard drive under AHCI so first enter the bios by
pressing F1 at boot and enter the Bios so you can change the SATA
Controller Mode from "AHCI" to "Compatibility". While your there make sure
in the boot order the CDrom is first. Put XP disk in drive and reboot.
Delete the Vista install.(If you want to delete the hidden partition and you're smart you've generated recovery disks in case Vista service packs make it worth reinstalling)
Install XP and Service Pack 2
Read the text file associated with each driver to know how to deal with each extracted
package, and note the directory the files are extracted to. Cancel any "Hardware
Update Wizard" windows that pop up.
Install in the following order:
65vg09ww.exe Display (Intel X3100) driver - that looks better.
65sa02ww.exe AHCI driver - find the three .inf files and right click
and select install. Probably not all are necessary.
Never mind. During any of the many ensuing reboots
you can enter the Bios and change
"Compatibility" back to "AHCI", and the first boot
device back to the hard drive. Towards the end of
this driver installation list ever boot will result in
only one “Hardware Update Wizard” opening. Instead
of canceling it manually direct the Wizard to select
the best driver from the "AHCI" folder where it will
select and install the "Intel(R) 82801HEM/IBM SATA

I dont know what you mean by picture light!!!
If you want to use all Fn keys you will need different tools and utilities.
For example the FN+F3/F4 will not work if the power saver was not installed.
Also the FN+F5 will not work if display device change utility will be not installed.
As you can see, several applications are needed if you want to use the FN keys!!!
But as the above user has suggested already, the XP drivers are not available.
Maybe you can use some appellations designed fro another notebook series but this is only a tiny hope.
