solved whith the old driver vom archive of vendor: "DMX6Fire_USBMac.1.00c.dmg" thats for 10.5.x for me works.
The newest from the vendor delivered driver 1.22 (marked for 10.5 and 10.6) seems to not work under 10.5.

  • Connecting external audio interfaces?! Issues, help needed!

Ok well basically i'v always used a pc to do music using cubase and a variety of hardware including a steinberg mi4 external audio interface connected via usb. Now on my pc which is actually less powerful than my new macbook (the 2.2ghz model) the interface works with out fault no latency, no distortion.
However once used on my new shiny macbook, for which i'v purchased logic pro as opposed to cubase (felt like a change) when trying to use my interface via usb on the mac through logic i seem to have issues with recording and all sound comes through distorted with a great deal of latency. I'v tried altering the sample depth and the bit rate and nothing seems to work?
I have downloaded mac specific drivers for the hardware so i'm sure its not a driver issue?
Anyone with any suggestion, cos i'm a bit gutted really?
P.s. Does anyone know if you can change the graphics card in a macbook?
    Ben

Hi, im having the same issue, using garageband and logic pro. I used pc to make music with no problems at all with my Zoom g9.2tt guitar fx usb interface.
Now with mac i get distorted and lots of latency.
One way i found that can make this work with garageband is use the internal sound card to play sounds and the usb interface to record this helps a lot. This trick makes it for garageband but not for logic pro(still getting distortion/latency).
By the way i used to have an emachines laptop with 512 ram memory and a 1,6ghz semprom processor, believe or not, easier to record on that one, with no latency and no distortion.

  • Lenovo g580 do I need to buy an external audio interface to record live instruments and voice ?

Hello,  If anyone could help me please ?, I am wondering do I need to buy an external audio interface to record live instruments and voice onto my lenovo g580.?
My friends have said that good laptops have audio interface's built in... but I cannot see how this could work as I am trying to build a home recording studio. Do they mean that I just need to have a mixing desk ? As the audio interface is already in my laptop, ?
Another question I have is... I have bought a microphone to record with a studio mic. But when I plug it into the headphone socket, it works as a speaker and not as a microphone. Please can you tell me how do I make it work as a microphone, and record on ableton. Thanks. I live alone with two cats so I'd really appreciate some help !
Thank you very much, best wishes.

I'm preparing to expand my studio from a 1 man songwriting system,
to add the capability to record a complete live band, with 16 separate
simultaneous tracks recording. Am I dreaming?
Nope. I've been recording live bands with up to 56 channels at 24 bit 48kHz for three years now.
    1) Does my computer have enough native power to handle such a task?
Yes. The actual recording uses the hard drive buss, so you need to make sure you have fast drives and a dedicated FW or SATA buss for them.
    2) Is there an audio interface device that could help shoulder some of
    the cpu load?
No. CPU is used only for routing audio, effects, etc. An audio interface is used to route the audio in and out of the computer, and as such does not process effects at all.
    3) is it possible to use my multiple, fast internal drives to help?
Yes. Although with Logic Pro you can use only one drive at a time for recording. HOWEVER, I have been able to use SATA drives to record up to 56 tracks AT ONCE. So there is plenty of power there.
    4) If not 16, what's the highest realistic track count I can hope for?
Again, I have done 56 tracks. 16 is a walk in the park in comparison to 56. I would recommend you invest in Apogee AD16X and DA16X, since in one interface you get ALL 16 inputs, and the other gives you the 16 outputs to go to, say, a mixer. And the sound quality is very very very good.
    thanks in advance
    You're welcome.

  • Recomended External Audio Interfaces

Hi i just bought a Mac Pro, and wanting to upgrade my audio card to an external audio interface i have a M-Audio 1010lt which does 96kHz, a friend said to get one thats 192kHz.
    Any recomendations?
    1. it has to be external, i might get a laptop to travel soon but i don't care about size or weight.
    2. i don't care about inputs, i would be happy with 1 input that is excellent quality, but it has to have a mic input and line input
3.i would like to use pro tools, i haven't used it before but it seems like it is for me.
    I have been looking at:
    Edirol FA66
    M Audio firewire 410
    M Audio Audiofile 192 (internal)
    -Ryan

Welcome R.H.A. let me solve this one,
When it comes to M-audio stuff, on the converters side its entry-level,
For a converters thats 192khz its an experiment, 24/96 is industry standard and even then most PPL will only use 16/44 or 16/48.
As i said its an 192khz is an experiment, to see how they could push the Technology,
having done that, the Data it use at 192khz is way over the top, without much change's where-as the human Ears would,nt be able to hear the difference from 96-192,
    so its point-less.
Converters goes from prices of £400.00- £10,000.00.
So i would recommend two of the best Brands converters all round, which is use and consider to be pretty much Pro-Converters, and is very affordable.
    Apogee & RME stuff,
Fire-Face 800 will give 8 in and outs Analogue
plus with the Adat bit another 16 ins and out with the right converters.
Its like one of the best and most stable Firewire Interface ever made.
    Apogee
has the track record of all time,
bit heavy in price but its worth every penny,
Rosetta 800 gives 8 ins and outs.
    Ensemble
Is another product made by Apogee for Apple/Mac.
    Integrates wonderfully with Logic-Pro,
However all the top Apogee Stuff has the C77 which is the Clock work in the Converters, thats also in the famous Big-Ben which is'nt found in Ensemble, thats seem to be a bit disappointment, and had lantency problems when they where first launch.
So the truth is Ensemble will sound great but compare to RME Fire-Face 800 & Rosetta 800 its Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Short.
Do keep in mind, i dont work for any of these company.

  • Volume control when using front row with an external audio interface

    Hi,
I got my macbook last week, and so far, I love it. But I've got a small gripe with FrontRow - in my room at college, I have my macbook plugged into an oldish Tascam US-122, which I use a lot for recording. The Tascam is connected to my expensive active speakers, and ideally, I'd like to be able to play back via FrontRow to the Tascam, to the speakers, while retaining remote control. This isn't a problem for selecting Photos/Videos/Music etc, but the problem arises when I want to change the volume - the remote simply controls the volume of the macbook's internal speakers, not affecting the output of the Tascam.
I know I could just connect the speakers via the headphone output, but that would mean more cables, and more chopping and changing system preferences to suit whether I'm making music or just listening.
*So - is there any way at all that I can make the macbook's global volume control (using the volume hotkeys and remote) affect the signal its sending (via USB) to the Tascam?* I know its not impossible, because until recently I used it with a PC running XP, and that allowed me to use the volume control app to boost or cut the Tascam's volume. Perhaps its an issue with the Tascam's OSX driver?
The Tascam has its own physical volume knob, so its not like I'm stuck listening at deafening or very quiet volumes, and I know this sounds like an issue with my laziness rather than FrontRow or the macbook, but surely it defeats the point of FrontRow if I have to walk across the room every time I want to turn the tunes up or down?!
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Thom Bishop

hmm, yeah, thats kinda what i suspected - i reckon this is to do with the way the frontrow interface is set up, but theres no way (as far as i can see) to make everything pass through the main system stereo channel BEFORE going to an external audio interface... which is COMPLETELY bizarre, since system sounds/alerts get passed to the audio interface fine.
and no, i very much doubt whether ANY external audio interface would respond to apple remote (gap in the market, perhaps?).
this would be a fairly simple problem to solve, if only apple were aware of it... of course, i COULD try getting to grips with audio units and seeing if i couldnt fix it myself, but ive frankly not got the time to learn how that works! how can i make apple aware of this issue?? are they already aware??

  • Firewire chain for external audio interface and hard drive

I use Logic Studio 8 on a Macbook Pro with a Presonus Firebox, an external Lacie Firewire hard drive for audio recording, and another Lacie Firewire drive for backups.
Is there a recommended chain order when chaining my Firewire devices together? I read somewhere on a ProTools forum that they recommend putting their Firewire audio interface Mbox2Pro at the end of the chain.
So right now I have Macbook Pro -> Backup Drive -> Audio Drive -> Presonus Firebox. I once had it in a different order with the audio drive first, but I found it was reading more slowly from/to the audio drive when it was in that order. I have no idea technologically why this would be the case.

I just found and joined this great forum. Following up on Ray's comments about his MacBook set-up, I have a similar MacBook 2ghz, 4mb ram, 9400 chipset, and am exploring getting into Logic Pro 8 and was wondering if my MacBook was underpowered, and whether I needed to step up right away to a MacBook Pro because of my lack of PCI slots for recording audio to an external eSATA drive.
I was encouraged to hear that the USB 2.0 connection for Ray's external WD 7200 hard drive has worked and improved things and his audio isn't getting choked and he is not getting the clicks and other problems.
I'm wondering if Ray or anyone else has any other tips on using a MacBook for Logic and for optimizing one's setup. And Ray, did you notice a point at which the clicks started? .. in terms of number of tracks? Or were they present from the outset? I'm wondering how many tracks you are running now on your system.
I might mention that I don't have an audio interface yet but was impressed with what I've read about the Apogee Duet. Any comments on interfaces and the Duet?
By the way, I'm just recording one instrument/one track at a time and perhaps occasionally two instruments at a time. And right now, my main purpose for getting into Logic is for editing and mixdown of pre-existing tracks that have already been created on a standalone hard-disc based DAW. If all goes well and if I like the whole Logic experience I'd expect to get a more powerful MacBook Pro or even a Mac Pro or whatever higher end iMac exists in the future.
To summarize, all I'm intending to do initially with the MacBook is:
    1) transfer individual digital tracks from a standalone hard disc-based DAW into Logic for mixdown and mastering.
    2) Record a few extra new tracks one at a time - probably not using any instrument plug-ins but relying on external synth/sampler/guitar sound sources ..in each song (maybe 3-4 tracks at most), and
    3) apply standard effects like reverb and EQ and panning to the mix down and master songs, each song containing a of approx 25-40 tracks.
My basic question is, can a MacBook 2Ghz with firewire 400, 4gb memory and USB2.0 to external hard drive handle this or is it underpowered? Thanks.

  • Setting External Audio Interface as default output

    Hi.
I have a MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion 1.8.5 with the following audio output options:
    Built-In Output
    MOTU UltraLite Audio Interface
    Bluetooth speaker.
I have the UltraLite setup as my default  for "Use this device for sound output" and "Play alerts and sound effects through this device". And it works flawless. On occassion I have to play the audio to the Bluetooth speaker. And that works great too. However if I turn off the spearker the Mac defaults back to "Built-In Output". How can I set it to default back to the UltraLite instead? (Ps-I don't mind messing with files deep in the system).
    Thanks,
    David

    Hi.
I assume you created WAD template.
In this WAD you inserted 2 webitems:
    1. analysis item with dataprovider assigned to your query
    2. chart item with the same dataprovider
If so you should set, as mentioned above, HIDDEN for analysis item (analysis item shows you query data - table) and VISIBLE fro chart item.
So by default your report data will be hidden and chart visible.
If you want to switch within WAD you should create any button "show/hide table" and attach command "SET_WEBITEM_PROPERTIES" and set visible for analysis item.
    Regards.

  • Using external Audio interfaces with Windows XP on an iMac

Does anybody know how to set the audio device used by this operating system running on an iMac to something other than Realtek HD? I have an Edirol Fa-101 audio interface that runs on my PC, and runs on my iMac perfectly.
I have installed the drivers onto Windows XP Pro runing on my iMac using Boot Camp, but I am unable to set the input and output audio devices in the "Sounds and Audio Devices" panel to anything other than realtek HD. Anyone got any ideas?

  • Using external audio interface in iMovie

    Hi!
I´m using an external audio device that´s called RME Babyface. I can´t record the audio from the microphone in iMovie. It works great recording audio in in Logic and Garageband, but when I change from "internal microphone" (which works) to "RME babayface", iMovie doesnt receive any audio.(But I can listen to the audio already present in the clips using my headphones hooked up to the RME babyface)
    Anyone any clue?
    Best regards Starre

I have the same issue with Babyface! Babyface works fine with other programs and even when I change it to the system input for the whole Mac, but for iMovie, there is no signal. And there is no "system settings" option either, like there would be in e.g. GarageBand. Any ideas?

  • Is my iMac or external audio interface at fault?

    My hardware is as follows:
    2010 21.5" iMac i3 3.06ghz, all standard.
    Yamaha n8 Digital Mixing Studio
800-400 FireWire cable (of which I have tried two, now using a more expensive Belkin cable)
Since new which is nearly a month ago I've noticed stuttering in sound when using the Yamaha digital mixer on whichever program I am using. This would last for a while, perhaps half hour, and then disappear.
I after a while I noticed I could circumvent this problem by changing the Format in the Audio Midi Setup to something other than 44100 Hz, I would usually choose 96000 Hz.
However having an application open such as Garageband would revert this setting back to 44100Hz and I would have all sorts of problems, both terrible recording quality and playback whether from Garageband or any other source. (for instance iTunes)
Then I have installed Cubase and tested the audio quality recording at all the different Format values in Audio Midi Setup, 44100 Hz remains unusable, sounding like a very strong bitcrusher effect has been applied to recordings. And while the other frequencies are better, they still sound quite bad with many digital artifacts, crackles and slight bitcrusher type effect sounds.
I should note that this is a change of Mac's. Before I was using a Mac Pro, late 2006 2x 2.66Ghz model and never experienced any of these problems. The only difference is the cable, being an older Mac it had the older 400 type of FireWire port.
I have spoken to both AppleCare and Yamaha technical support. AppleCare suggested ringing Yamaha and implied that I would want to record at the higher sample rate than 44100Hz anyway, and I'd be better with Logic! Needless to say this isn't a solution that is acceptable, I think the support engineer struggled to understand this problem. However when I spoke to Yamaha the engineer there felt quite strongly the Mac was at fault with a faulty clock and offered to test the Yamaha unit with one of their Mac's. As I said though I have recently changed Mac's and only since doing so has this problem occured.
I'm not exactly sure what the next steps would be. I have tried to find ways that I can test the internal clock on the mac, but am at a loss as to how other than simply troubleshooting with recording experiments, using my ears. And it is worth noting perhaps that recording and playback using the iMac's internal mic and speakers works perfectly! I tried that in Garageband.
Is there any advice anyone could give before I pursue AppleCare for the fix?
    Kind Regards
    Chris

    Hi-
My first thought is that it's possible the way I use my desktop makes it more likely to develop instabilities
Based on your description, I would agree....
I don't do anything as far as 'taking care' of the system
You don't even let the system run automated maintenance scripts? For this to occur, they must be rescheduled, or the system left on overnight.
As you mentioned, the continual creation and deletion of large files creates a good environment for system error creation. I would suggest, in the least, booting to the OS X disc, and running Disk Utility at least once a month. Better yet, would be to buy DiskWarrior, and run it at least once a month, more often might be better. DW finds/repairs more than DU, and keeps your harddrive directory in top shape, helping to keep the system performing as it should.
There are also maintenance scripts that need to be run, either automatically, or manually. It is easy to run these scripts manually, and requires no third party software.
Open Terminal, and type *sudo periodic daily weekly monthly* and press Return. Enter your password, and press Return. When the command line prompt returns, the scripts are finished, and maintenance is done. If this has never been done, or the machine has never been left on overnight, it may take more than a few minutes.
Failure to run maintenance scripts, will result in a backlog of invisible files, and can greatly affect performance. The longer without maintenance, the greater the backlog.
There are other items that one may wish to include in their maintenance program. I find this article to be informative.
So, why does this keep happening? What should I do to make it stop?
Maintain your OS, and be kind to the Tiger! In In turn, it will be kind to you.

  • External audio interface

Hi, I've had a Behringer Xenyx 1202 mixer for a while and I've spent a lot of my time trying to get it to work with Logic Pro. I was eventually able to get a small adapter that took the L and R audio output of the mixer and connected by USB to my computer but this ended up only working with Garageband. Apparently to get this working with Logic I would have to experiment with the aggregate device function but this got me nowhere.
I'm willing to do what it takes to get this working but I know that with my setup right now I'm not going to be able to record with Logic and something will have to be changed. Would getting a firewire (instead of USB) adapter between the mixer and my computer fix things? Are there any other ways I could get this working without having to replace the mixer?
    Thanks

Re-reading that, it is very odd that you're getting signal in Garageband but not in Logic. In that case, I'd imagine that a switch to firewire won't solve your problems. Do you have any friend with one you could borrow perhaps?

  • 30GB of space disappears on External Drive after failed DMG copy via USB

I have a 298.1 GB external Western Digital hard drive connected to my iMac by a USB 2.0 cable. It is formatted in NTFS-3G so I can use it with both my PC and Mac. Yesterday in Disk Utility I created a 50GB 256-bit encrypted DMG and told Disk Utility to save it on a folder in my external drive. It got to about 20GB and then my house's power went out. A few hours later when the power came back on, I turned on my computer, and the available space on my external hard drive went down from about 100GB to 68.21GB.
The first thing I thought was that the DMG transfer ended prematurely so I should just find and delete the incomplete DMG from the hard drive. So I went to the folder I saved it in and it was not there. I checked all the folders and I couldn't find any DMG in there. Then I went to the root of the external drive and used Get Info to find the space each folder took up. It adds up to 194.12 GB. So I subtracted 194.12 from 298.1 and got 103.98. If I'm supposed to have 103.98 GB, why do I only have 68.21 GB available? I double and triple checked the size of everything on the disk and I still should have about 30GB more than I do. The 30GB just disappeared.
I tried verifying the disk in Disk Utility and got:

  • Does Logic support Audio Interface and MIDI simultaneously over USB?

    Hi -
I'm new to this so please bear with me :-). I have a MacBook running Logic. Also have a MIDI controller hooked up via USB.
I also have a USB Mixer that I'd like to hookup to the Mac's audio output. Currently, I have the MacBook's headphone output going into the mixer. I'd love to get the cleaner sound afforded by the USB connection. Is this possible while keeping the MIDI connection over USB?

Thanks, Fox. You're right - I just tried it out and it worked out very well (although I'm getting I high-pitched noise through my monitor speakers only when Logic is running. The noise stops when I exit out of Logic.)
I couldn't get myself to believe that the Mac/Logic could keep the USB data straight - MIDI on one, and audio on the other, but sure enough, it works just fine. :-)
    Thanks!

  • Please recommend the best audio interface not the firebox!!!!

i am not sure if this unit is doing what i want it to do.
what audio interface are you using (firewire) to record external synth/guitar
and recording out of its audio outs to a recording device like a minidisc at the same time monitors are connected to it. The firebox is eccentric, sometimes the drivers are there in the midi audio and sometimes they arent.
which brand are you using with consistent results?
its always hit and miss with this firebox. im using OS 10.4.11 and just upgraded the new software mixer and control at its web site.
garageband has gotten so good now its the audio interface failing me.
    thanks

I use the M-Audio Firewire solo. It's super reliable and I think it's got everything you need. As long as your drivers are good, you're good to go. Just make sure that you DO NOT plug it in when the computer is on (as with all firewire products)! I ruined one that way.. then turned around and bought another one.
    Love the thing.

  • No power from Fire Wire port to my audio interface

I face this problem after my set-up always has worked: I have a Quata Fire 610 Audio interface, powered thru my Fire wire 400. For some reason there is no power, and my Mac does not recognize the unit. I have tried both Fire Wire ports, and none of them works. The unit works fine on my other Mac (iMac G4) Is there any way I solve this problem. I have done the the disc utilities.
    Peter

FireWire ports have been known to fail.
Did you shut down (power OFF) the Power Mac G5, and restart? Did you also try the port on the front panel? Did you try a different FireWire cable? Is it possible to try another FireWire device on the ports, as a test?
You can also try a reset of the PMU or SMU (power management). Depending on your model
