Software Installation GPO Issues

I'm currently trying to automate the installation of a MSI in Server 2012.  It's going to be a computer config that will install anti virus software at startup (at least that's my end goal).  However, I'm struggling in the troubleshooting process
in that I cannot get the GPO to work properly.
The steps I've taken thus far:
1) Deployed MSI package in Computer Config using full UNC to file share (giving domain user rights for the share)
2) Troubleshoot issue of Event ID 1129 which led me to believe its a syncing issue with the network/DC
- So I created another GPO Enabling Both "Startup policy processing time" and "Always wait for the network
at computer startup and logon"
3) Ran a GPUPDATE, restarted the PC (This is a wireless laptop - my test work station) and still no luck with the install
4) Double Checked that the PC/User account has Local Admin Rights
Now the issue is that Event Viewer doesn't tell me anything in regards to the failed GPO, which is leaving me quite baffled.
Any help or tips on how to successfully
Thanks!

Should be "domain computers", not users...

  • Configuring WMI Filters or GPO for Software Installation restirctions

    Good day all,
I am trying to configure a first time WMI filter to prevent my users from installing new software. I don't want to restrict anything they currently have as it is working fine. They have very minimal programs installed as is (MS Office, IE, Java, etc..).
I would like to keep what they have and prevent new installations using either GPO or WMI filters.
I have checked a few posts prior to writing here, but I am not familiar with alot of the code or jargon that is used. I am as I said, trying this for the first time. I have been checking the below link and got as far as step 7. This is where I get lost.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj899801.aspx
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc947846%28WS.10%29.aspx
I just need something very basic that says "You can't install this, call IT" with any new install attempts.
PS. You guys have been a great help in the last few weeks for me.
    Dario Garcia

    Hi Dario,
Based on your description, I understand that you want to prevent domain users from installing software via
group policy. If anything I misunderstand, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
As you know, you can use
Software Restriction Policies. May also be able to use
AppLocker. For more details, please refer to following thread.
    Block
    software installations -GPO
In addition, from your this thread, I noticed that you focus on
WMI filter. Did you mean that you want to know how use WMI Query to filter correct Windows version or any other? Sorry for my confusion.
If any update, please feel free to let me know.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,

  • Software Installation issues via GPO

    Hi there,
I have created a new GPO (computer configuration) that deploys Sketchup Pro 2014 to computerson the network.
My tester computer refuses to install it.
Here are the System Events i receive:
    Event 101:
The assignment of application SketchUp 2014 from policy Application Delivery - Sketchup 2014 failed.  The error was : %%1274
    Event 103:
The removal of the assignment of application SketchUp 2014 from policy Application Delivery - Sketchup 2014 failed.  The error was : %%2
    Event 108:
Failed to apply changes to software installation settings.  The installation of software deployed through Group Policy for this user has been delayed until the next logon because the changes must be applied before the user logon.  The error was
    : %%1274
    Event 1112:
The Group Policy Client Side Extension Software Installation was unable to apply one or more settings because the changes must be processed before system startup or user logon. The system will wait for Group Policy processing to finish completely before
the next startup or logon for this user, and this may result in slow startup and boot performance.
I restarted the machine a few times with no result.
I also have: [Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\System\Logon\Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon = enabled]
All of my computers are equipped with SSD drives, not sure if that would matter, i had a heck of a time with GPOs and SSDs before.
    Any help?
    Thanks,

    I think I just found a solution.
    As per this
    thread:
Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > System > Group Policy > Policy > Startup policy processing. Change from default to Enabled and 30 sec.
    Does the trick.

  • Unable to automatically install Flash 12 over Flash 11 via GPO Software Installation

We have a GPO software installation to install Flash 12 to a group of Windows 7 64-bit workstations. It works fine on a system that has no previous version of Flash already installed, but when the workstation has Flash 11 installed, the installation fails with an error in the Windows application event viewer saying something referring to installation failed because the previous version of Flash could not be removed.
If we log into the computer and manually uninstall Flash, then the Flash 12 GPO assigned to the computers works at the next reboot.  If we manually install Flash 12, by running the Flash installation file as the user, then 12 installs over 11.
I have seen this kind of issue when someone tries to install and older version of flash over a newer version, but I don't think we should be having these problems installing the latest version of  Flash.
We have to go to each PC and manually remove Flash 11 before we can install Flash 12 and it is too much time and labor to keep doing this.
What can be done to fix this so that a GPO software installation of the Flash 12 MSI will forcefully replace older versions of Flash without being stopped by this error?

    Hi lord_knikon,
I understand your frustration.  We've had several users report this, however, we've not been able to reproduce.  This happens with the online installer downloaded from get.adobe.com/flashplayer.  We've not seen this with the offline installers, posted at the bottom of this help page, http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html.  Please try using the offline installer and you should be able to get Flash Player installed on your system.

  • GPO Software Installations always require configuring on first run.

Whenever I push out an MSI through a GPO, the first time a user runs the software after logging in requires Windows 7 to configure the product before it will load up.  With the exception of VMWare 10, this only happens once per usage of the software
per login and is avoided if the shortcuts created with the install aren't used.  If I navigate to the software installation folder and manually run an executable, there is no please wait while windows configures ....  For some lesser applications,
removing the shortcuts from the msi and creating manual shortcuts through GPO, I was able to work around the problem, but it's becoming too much of a hassle to keep doing.
So, my question is, how do I stop Windows from configuring applications on first run that are installed through GPO?
    Thanks

    HI,
If your old version of iTunes is still working - then I sugest you stick with that.
iTunes 11 is a lousy update - It will not retain your playlists, you can't find and delete duplicates... and a whole arry of oyher issues. (have a look around this forum to see how many issues IT11 gives people)
Just a friendly advise and warning :-)

  • GPO Software Installation Question

I have our system set to install 3 applications to every computer that connects to the domain. Our portal software, our Virus protection and 90% of the computers need Adobe so I have that pushed out as well.
We also have about 15 Thin Clients set up as Kiosks.  I was thinking of connecting them to the domain but I did not want any software pushed out to them.  I was wondering if the "Configure software Installation policy processing" setting
in "Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/System/Group Policy" would work to accomplish this if I link the GPO directly to the OU that contains the Kiosk profiles.

What you can do below mention steps
1.Create a Security group and add all the kioks and thin clients to this group
2.Create a group policy and configure software distribution
3.Apply group policy to the ou where you have all the computers and software
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/816102?wa=wsignin1.0
4.Using Group policy delegation deny applying particular group policy for that computer group which we have created in step 1

  • HP LaserJet CM1415fmw software installation issue

    Hello.
I am having a problem with an HP LaserJet Pro CM1415fmw software installation. During the installation when the connect to printer stage is reached it takes a very long time to complete and fails with an error.
Kindly advise if you can help.
    Regards

    Hello Bsch,
    I invite you to:
1- Unistall/remove all the network printers installed by your PC
2- Unistall/remove all the drivers installed by your PC specially the HP Universal driver
3- Delete/remove all HP software files from your PC (C: / register..)
4- Disable the Antivirus(es) and the Firewall then download again the HP Full Solution Software corresponding to your OS
5- Disable the HP Smart install from the printer's menu (or from its Web page if you can connect it to network)
6- Disable the HP Web services (by default this feature is disabled, then just go through the panel menu and confirm that, here you use the printer by USb so no need for this feature)
7- Run/launch the installation by executing the setup file and be sure to maintain the printer unplugged to your PC, no USB connection at this step.
8- Run the OS/PC device manager to check/update the USB port/driver connection-add during the printer's USB plugging (you plug the USB cable to the printer when the installation guide asks you (3rd step))
9- Continue the installation and let's see if it can finish correctly and succeed without delay or error.
10- Check a Print test page, Fax feature and the Scan module.
Note: This can lead to a Full software installation, but if you just need a printing driver only you can try the same steps, although you will download and install an UPD Driver through a traditional mode (LPT1 port)
Try to use this method for the first time when the network printers are still installed and try to see if it goes fine otherwise you step for the steps given (1-10)
Please tell me what kind of OS you are running on your PC.
Please tell me if this procedure is helping, then if not I can provide you with a new solution.
Please upgrade the printer's firmware through USB connection if possible (or Ethernet like step5)
    Best regards

    Good Morning,
So despite numerous variations and permission settings we are still experiencing problems with this. So this is what has been done so far –
The msi file has been moved to another location on the network which we know works for other msi files –
This did not work although when we check event viewer, gpresult and RSOP the policy is being applied but the software installation is failing.
Added domain users to local admins. The share folder containing the source msi has
Everyone setup for read and execute permission –
    This made no difference
Tried running the msi file logged in as administrator and also tried running the msi whilst logged in as myself –
The msi runs fine for administrator but will not run when logged in as myself and gives the following error:
Software installation failed due to the error listed below. The installation source for the product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that
    you can access it.
The msi contains an upgrade to our antivirus software. I setup two machines one with the old antivirus software installed on it and the other without any antivirus software on it. Logged in as domains users on each machine and did a gpupdate /force /boot
After logging back in I ran RSOP and found that on the machine which had no antivirus on it to begin with there was an error for software installation stating –
Fatal error during software installation. For the machine that had antivirus already installed on it there was no such error and the software installation states that the installation was successful and yet the new A/V software is still not installed.
This morning I got in early to try and do some more work on this but my boss was already here and advised that even a login script will not work so he has installed it manually on one of the machines and it appears to have worked fine. Not really sure where
    to go from here.

  • Applying Software Installation Policy Is Taking Long Time During Boot Process

1 of my servers is having slow boot up issue. I have enabled user environment debugging and the gpsvc.log file has been generated. I have also used the Windows Performance Analyzer to capture logs and results came back that the GP Client is taking a long
time in the boot process. So, I reckoned the slow boot is due to GPO but I am not sure where to look from this log file.
I have only paste part of the gpsvc.log file here due to limitation in the number of characters allowed to be posted. Would appreciate some good advise on this issue that I am facing.

  • Insufficient permissions for software installation

We are experiencing following error message when installing software from software center using SCCM 2012 SP1 “Insufficient Permissions for software installation”. only when users (without local
admin) are login. This error is only happening to small number of clients while other clients are installing with no issue.
I have found following KB and it is the same issue:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/e2e68509-d6ee-4975-86b5-4894d2d6895f/software-center-permissions-error-sccm-2012?forum=configmanagerapps
Is it possible a GPO policy and if yes what will be the configuration information to verify.

    Hi,
Are there two clients with this error in the same domain and with the same GPO applied?
    Best Regards,
    Joyce

This errors have been happening a long while and do not appear to be having any effects on our end users. However, they are making
it very hard to sift through our log files as you could imagine! This DC is windows 2008 r2.
If there is any other information needed, let me know. Thanks!

In addition you can debug the software installation Policy easily.

    Hi prestigetech2,
Before going further, would you let me know the symptoms, when you find there is a group policy issue? For
an example, which function you can use? Or any others? It may help me undertsnad this issue clearly.
Please enable Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon setting (Path: Computer Settings->
Policies-> Administrative Templates-> System-> Logon). And run gpupdate /force command to refresh the group policy settings. Then check if it’s same result.
Regarding to the message, it seems that there are some troubles in Software Installation and Folder Direction
policy. For Software Installation, please check the installation source and make sure that exists and can be accessed. For folder redirection, please refer to the following similar thread and then check if can solve this issue.
    Folder
redirection failed due to the error listed below. Cannot complete this function
If this issue still exists, please open Event Viewer and check if you can find some related Events. That will
help us to go further analyze.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Justin Gu

  • Printer Software Installer has stopped working

Product: HP Laser Jet M1005 MFP
    OS: Windows 7, 64-bit
    Notebook ACER , Aspire 5349, Intel Celeron CPU B800 @ 1.50 GHz
(new notebook, old printer - printer worked well on Windows XP)
I downloaded driver ljM1005-HB-pnp-x64-en. Driver had been extracted and setup started.
Installation started and after some initialization (~10 sec) it kept writing:
Preinstalling the driver files...  or Copying files to hard drive...  (switching approx. once per second) after a while (~ 20 sec)
Printer Software Installer has stopped working. Windows tried to find solution but did not find anything.
I TRIED ALREADY EVERYTHING. I used patch for AMD processors (of course, did not work); I have Windows installer up to date; I disabled Internet Explorer 9.0 (I cannot uninstall and iether can I step back to IE 8.0 since notebook is brand new); There is no windows driver preinstalled for this printer and there is no similar driver working.
Driver cannot be installed and printer does not work.
    Please, help.

    Hello,
Thanks for the post.  This is an odd one, I might suggest the method outlined below in the third link, if that does not help, I might recommend that you post this question on the following links below.  Good Luck!

  • LaserJet Pro MFP M276nw software installer not detecting printer via USB or wi-fi - Windows 7

I am trying to install a LaserJet Pro MFP M276nw on Windows 7 Home Premium x64, and I know the printer functions fine, as I have installed it on both Windows Vista Basic x32 and Windows 7 Professional x64 all on the same desktop. The operating system has been changed a couple of times, hence the multiple installs.
I downloaded the full featured software from HP.com and went through the routine of installation as per usual, except that now the software doesn't detect the printer when it requests that I connect it via USB.  Trying to install via wi-fi doesn't work because the printer still needs to be attached via USB in order to create the proper wireless handshake.  Windows 7 detects the printer, and in-fact installed the drivers for it automatically.  However, the printer installation software suite does not respond to the printer being connected, and just hangs there, waiting for it to appear.
I have tried multiple USB ports and it's the same issue.  I've installed the basic driver also available for download on HP.com, but that software does not appear to include an option for scanning files to the computer.  The printer itself will scan to email or to to a USB thumb drive, and even to a network folder, but not directly onto the computer.  If it wasn't a necessary function of an all-in-one printer, I wouldn't bother with the scanning feature and simply make do with the basic printer driver.
Anyone have some sort of idea regarding this issue?

    Hi @KP_ ,
I see that you are having issues with setting up the printer on the one computer. I would like to help you out today.
I would uninstall the software, turn off the Startup programs, Antivirus software and update the driver during the install by the post I have provided.
    Disconnect the USB cable.
    Uninstall the software.
Here are the steps to run the uninstall from the computer or the CD.
    To uninstall from program files:
Touch the Windows key and the E key to access the computer window.
    Select the C drive.
Select program files or program files x86.
Open the HP and printer name folder.
    Select uninstall.
Uninstall the software from the CD:
Touch the Windows key and the E key to access the computer window. Right click on the CD for the printer, left click open in a new window, double click on uninstall.
I would disable all the start up programs and temporarily turn off the Antivirus Software to see if there is a program interfering in the back ground. How to use MSCONFIG . Click on the start up tab and click disable all.
Download, save and then run the latest drivers. Don't Connect the USB cable until prompted during the install.
HP LaserJet Full Feature Software and Driver.
Right after connecting the USB cable, follow this document immediately. A Fatal Error Displays During Software Installation. Disregard the title. If the printer stays listed properly, don't worry about updating the driver.
    Test the printer.
Then you will have to go back and enable the Startup programs and turn the Antivirus Software back on again.
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a great day!
    Thank You.
