Software instrument play too short notes (in place of very long one)

I've enter with my midi keyboard a french horn section in very long notes.
When I record I heard those long note, in the midi track I can see then, but
when I playback I can't hear them longer that a "fraction of second".
I've try to close and reopen GarageBand, but no use.
I've input with that keyboard corectly a trombone part few hours ago.

I just record in an other file, software tenor sax, it work properly.
So I retry in this file with orchestra French Horn, it work.
So I retry in the file that was causing me problem. Still don't work.
I would think that maybe it is because it is a file crated with GB 2, but
the other file where it work was to created with GB 2, so probably not the cause.
The only other midi track in the file is a custom click track. But it is present in the
2 files, with the same note that does not duplicate with the horn.

Well, two thoughts.
The battery has completely discharged and will take overnight to recharge, so don't expect much in an hour.
The battery has deep discharged and is now dead. It will never recharge and should be replaced.

Discoverer 'NOT IN' condition taking very long time in dealing with States

I have a sales report that I need to divide into 'East' and 'West regions. On separate worksheets I put in a simple condition whereby "xxx.state IN 'AL', 'CT', 'DE', etc..." I did this for the East with 25 US States and Territories, and repeated on another worksheet for 'West' with 28 US States and Territories.
Those are both working perfectly and return results very quickly, nice and simple.
Equally as simple, I created another worksheet where I want to capture everything else, for instance, APO addresses and the like. So I put in the same condition, xxx.state NOT IN "'AL', 'CT', 'DE', etc..." and added all the states and territories from both the East and West, a total of 53 values. The return takes very long, to the point that after waiting 3 hours, I cancelled the query.
I tried to make a condition xxx.state NOT IN 'AL' AND xxx.state NOT IN 'CT' AND...etc... basically just separating the values out one by one but once I get about 15-20 values in, it really begins to drag.
Any advice on capturing anything outside of the 'East' and 'West' regions in a reasonable amount of time? Should I be using another combination than 'NOT IN'?

This is not exactly what you're asking, but if the 3 sheets are otherwise identical, could you combine them into one? Then create a calculated item for Region - something like:
Case when XXX.STATE in ('AL','CT',etc) then 'EAST' when XXX.STATE in ('CA','OR', etc) then 'WEST' else 'OTHER' end
Then put the Region in the page item. Haven't tested but maybe that would be faster & meet your needs.

Cant update iphoto. I am directed to sign in an account that is not mine, and I dont have a password to. what do I do. I have not updated in a very long time because of this problem.

Ever since i installed mountain lion to my imac, I have not been able to update my iphoto. I keep getting software update alert, but when I go to update, I am asked to log into a hotmail account which does not belong to me, and which I obviously do not have a password to. I did not purchase the computer from someone Else or i i Would have knoen the password could be thèrs, Besides only iPhoto and i movie had that problem. Anyway,
Fortunately i was able to find a solution from a thread where someone asked the same question. I did what they Said, which was something to dó with spotlight, and Bingo it Worlked.

New iphone not holding charge for very long

I took my phone off the charger at 1 pm today. I made about 6 short calls, checked emails and facebook but nothing excessive and at 10 pm the charge is almost dead. is that normal?

You can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay. Every MacBook from 2006 through Mid 2009 except the Late 2008 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 and 2010 White Unibodies use the same A1185 battery.

At least once a month you should run it on battery power to exercise the battery. Cycle it to about 40% left then recharge. Do not cycle it to a near zero charge.

Software instruments not playing

I had to reload my hard drive after a re-format, in doing so my GB has been working funny. My software instruments play only as a keyboard, with slight variation despite what instrument is selected. It does this with or without the midi keyboard connected. I reinstalled it from factory disk and the problem still exists. Ideas?

Oops, I didn't read your entire sentence, I missed the last bit. I actually didn't realize you could use the onscreen keyboard while the Create DialogBox was open.
In fact, naughty GB programmers, that's a Modal Dialog, you shouldn't be able to use the onscreen keyboard while it's open.
But as you correctly posted, it does work

Software loops playing a different sample

My friend has an issue with his Garageband 3, where any software loop will play correctly in the loop browser, but when dragged into the main screen, it will always play with a synth sound. I verified that he is dragging into a blank area (that says drag apple loops here) that will crate a NEW track, (not on top of an existing track that has a different setting), but any kind of (software instruments) loop, will always play with the same synth sound. Does not happen with real instrument loops.
I thought if you dragged a loop to where it made a new track, it would keep the default attributes of the loop you are dragging and apply them to that track, and only after that, you can tweak and mess it up all you like.
I couldn't recreate his problem. I am going over there this weekend to take a look at it, and I was thinking about trashing the Garageband prefs, and the Loops index and reloading the loops in case it was that kind of problem, but is there some way he could have messed with a default setting for each new software instrument track?
One thing was funny, is that when he goes to the track menu and chooses new track>software instrument, the default is not Grand Piano, it is iDrum... I would think that would have something to do with it EXCEPT that he is getting a synth sound with the drag and drop method, not an iDrum kit. Just thought I'd throw that out there since it was another difference from the norm.
Any suggestions would be appriciated, I only record live and don't really use loops myself...

Well, what's freaky is that they play correctly in the loop browser, so they must be installed. For some reason when they are moved into the timeline, that's when they lose the relationship to where the instruments are located and use a generic/default instrument in it's place.
When I reinstall, that is going to put them back in the default location on the hard drive and I am just going to have to copy them over again, and recreate the links, it's seems like it might be a waste since the actual instruments are there, and I should just work on fixing the links. I remember getting an error when setting it up that asked me where the Instrument library was located, and I located it. I might need to get that up again... any other input is welcome.

HT3161 I have a 27" mac running with a 3.4 ghz core i7 and 16 gigs of ram and using the latest logic. I have a composition consisting of 7 audio tracks and 4 software instruments and 4 plugins on 4 tracks so why is my CPU spiking ?

I'm running a 27" imac with a 3.4ghz core i7 processor and 16 gb of ram.... In logic I have a project with 7 audio tracks with various plugins running and 4 software instruments which incidentally are not playing all the way through the track...my CPU spikes even if the project is paused...why is this happening on such a high end machine.....wasting my money again seems to spring to mind !!

Won't let me save as archive nor change software instrument to audio track

You were able to do both of these before iLife 09. Also, I see the option to archive, but it won't let me select it. Anyone?

One: Locking a track mixes it down to an audio track (hidden in the project package in a folder called "Freeze Files") that is being used on playback, so the computer doesn't have to render the software instruments.
Two: If by "sound modules" you mean the software instruments - no, they are not included in a "Save as Archive" file. As I said, it's the audio loops and copied regions. Try adding a blue audio loop to your song, and the "Save as Archive" option will appear!

Polyphony- how many notes can play at one time with the software instrument

Hello everyone! Is the Polyphony limited in Garageband 3 when playing the software instruments? Is there a setting I should tweak? I noticed this when using the sustain pedal with the grand piano sound.

I can't give you exact figures, but GB does have problems with overlapping notes. It's weird sometimes - while it certainly can play a lot of notes at a time, like big chords, it chokes on melodies where the notes overlap. I don't know of any other fix than making sure that the notes don't overlap.
