Software issue: Renaming and file paths

Recently while cleaning up my MBP 15" I renamed my hard drive, and now all my paths are messed up and i cant seem to revert, I dont know if this has anything to do with key chains and the like, because I am an extremely new mac user. If anyone knows how to revert my machine to its prior state, that would be great. Thanks

it sounds like you may have also tried to change your home folder or may have tried to rename your home folder from the user id you began with.
Did you try to actually rename the hard drive volume or did you try to rename your basic user area?
If you changed your user id, try logging in as the original one that you began using when you first set up the computer. All of your stuff that you created as that id or user is filed under that user name.
The paths are not really messed up, and unless you deleted that user and moved stuff to trash, that user and stuff still exist on the computer.

  • Issue with Applications, file paths, mobile accounts in snow Leopard OD

    Hello Everyone,
    The Facts:
2 x Xserves running Snow Leopard 10.6.2 Server
(1 is a Open Directory Master, the other a backup/slave)
About 20 end-users running 10.5.8 Leopard and 10 end-users running 10.6.2 Snow Leopard on MacBook Pro laptops.
All laptops are Managed Mobile clients with full administrative privileges/rights for the local drive.
    The Issue(s):
Having an odd issue with many applications like Microsoft Word, Adobe Photoshop etc. not remembering the last used file path and the default network home path showing up instead of the local one.
This issue ONLY appears with the Snow Leopard clients and the Snow Leopard Server. No matter what, the default path will be the enduser's network home path. This leads to endusers constantly having to sync their home folders to get the copy or losing files altogether.
The Leopard clients are unaffected, can save to the local hard drive by default and have no issue "remembering" the last accessed file's path (whether local or on the network).
What gives? What changed? Any thoughts, workarounds, fixes most appreciated.

    Okay, I'll rephrase the issue
When the Snow Leopard clients are connected to the network and can connect to the OD Master etc, the default path for saving files to the desktop changes to their network accounts e.g. afp://Server/Users/Enduser/Desktop. If they save a file, it will copy here and then the enduser has to synch to get a copy of the file on their local desktop.
If the client is not connected to the network, no issue. Enduser can save files to the local desktop like normal.
How do we change this such that the enduser can save to the local harddrive first regardless of being connected?
All Snow Leopard Clients are mobile accounts which synch hourly the full profile.
Any further thoughts or similar experiences gang?
Something we could possibly change in the mcx settings perhaps or am a I missing the point?

  • Window startplace and file path

    Hi.
I am new to Java programming and I have a couple of questions. Hope someone will have an answer to them.
    1. When I make a program with an ordinary window, how do I start it centered on the screen?
    2. How do I make my program find picturefiles without setting up the complete file path?

    1. Do a search

  • Spotlight and file path

I'm missing two useful Spotlight features. Until Mountain Lion, rolling over an item in the spotlight window would make its file path appear, and a command+click on it would reveal the file in the Finder. Is there a way to have these features back?
By the way, please forgive me if the topic has been discussed earlier (I couldn't find anything helpful, though).

Hovering over the item will Quicklook it.
For a File, holding down Command key will show the path at the bottom of the Quicklook window.
For found content in something like an email attachment, holdind down the command key will show the context of the content; adding the option key will show where the item that has the content can be found.
In either case, holdind down the command key while clicking on the item will reveal it in the appropriate application (Finder for files, Mail message for email content, etc.).
I never can find anything here when I search, so I gave up trying. Once you do post, check the More Like This sidebar item, here. It will try to match your question with others.

  • OAMessageFileUploadBean and file path

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to catch the path to a file using the OAMessageFileUploadBean component. There seems to be no way to do that in the page controller. There only seems to be a way to catch the actual file data and it's name.
I have seen a couple of posts on the same subject before but I haven't seen a solution to the problem:
How to get the complete path of the file
    getting File upload full path!!!
Re: How to capture only a path in a MessageFileUpload
Has anyone managed to solve this issue or is there any kind of workaround?
Or maybe another component I can use?
    Appreciate any help with this.

when you use file upload component, the file will be uploaded into the fnd_lobs tables as a LOB object.
then you can manipulate the file from the FND_LOBS table.

  • Software Updates Missing and File Not opening in Final Cut Pro

    Hi Experts,
I am having trouble with Final Cut Pro. Here goes:-
I tried to load up a FCP file called "Overview" in Lesson One of the Apple Pro Training Series book called "Color". The file would not open and I got the following message alert in FCP:
"File's format is too new for this version of the application".
I am running FCP 6.0.1 and so went to check for software updates. I could not find any listed for FCP. I did a quick internet search to make sure and found there were indeed updates to 6.0.1.
    So I guess I have 2 problems:
    1. Why won't a file from a book that was published before I bought FCP work on my app?
    2. Why can't I see updates for FCP in the Software Update application?
I am mega stuck with this. I have read of similar problems to mine on the internet but have found no solution. I hope that you will be able to help me out.
    Thank you all,
    Bob

    Hi Nick!
Thanks for your reply. I feel kinda silly now but I have been continuously checking Software Update for 24hrs and I just got a new addition to the list which was called "Pro Applications Update 2008-05".
Seeing something new, I installed it and it upgraded my Final Cut Applications including FCP to version 6.0.5.
    The file then opened.
I am truly sorry to have taken your time up. As when I posted last time Nick, you were very prompt and helpful.
    All the best,
This problem is solved for me and I hope all the other people having this problem find this update as luckily as I just did.

  • Adobe Bridge CC Batch Rename and File Extensions

I use Adobe Bridge CC on my macbook pro that is running OS X 10.8.5  When I batch rename files within Bridge it automatically drops the file extension. I am able to add the extension within the naming process but would prefer if it simply defaulted to the existing extension of the files being renamed. On occasion it does do this and then the next time it is gone. What am I doing wrong?

I don't think there is any way in which you can add to the built-in functions…
Unless this is actually provided by one of the Adobe start-up scripts… ( I've not see it when digging about )
You would probably need a scripted solution that can give you drop down menu of the extra options you want.

  • Database Toolkit Sub query Syntax and file path expectation question.

I need some assistance from those of you smarter than I.
I have two database files (not two tables in the same database file) one represents information delivered from an external interface, and the other is used by the internal interface associated with the processing half of my application.  Data is received (i.e. fields are populated)  from the external interface to one database file and that data is then copied to another database file where the information will be processed by the internal interface. This is being done because I am worried about  file access issues that might occur if two different interfaces (external & internal) try to access the same file at the same time (without dealing with semaphores). I am not too worried about the sanctity of the data since each record supplied from the external interface should not effect any of the data being used by the internal interface.  So the first question is , am I being to primitive in my thinking assuming that I would run into file access issues if I were to just use two tables in the same database file for the same purpose ?
My second question is related to my current implementation where I have two separate database files representing the external and internal interface data. Currently when a new set of data is entered into the External Interface Database file, an alert is issued, and another task copies the data from that file into Internal Interface Database, then the data is deleted from the External Interface Database file. My question is related to the syntax that I am using to provide the described functionality. I am currently using a INSERT with a subquery to the External Interface Database file i.e. INSERT INTO InternalDB FROM  ExternalDB.ExternalTable WHERE Order =  '06306049'; .
My question is when I run this query with both database files in same directory I get an error stating that the ODBC driver can not find the ExternalDB.ExternalTable in the Parent Directory of the subdirectory where the files are actually located. The system DSN is set up correctly for the ExternalDB, and if I move it to the parent directory the query works correctly, my question is why would I have to put the two database files in seperate directories for this to work and is there a way to avoid this ?
    Thanks..
    Brad W

  • [SOLVED]To wierd issues: chmod and file associasions

    Hi,
Whenever i login to gnome i get an error message about .dmrc not being read properly due to some privelage issue. It tells me to make sure i own my home folder and set it to 644. So i use chmod to set the home folder and everything in it to 644 using this command in /home: chmod -Rv 644 username/
Then i get error messages like this:
chmod: can't access username/.thunderbird: no access
failed to change mode of username/.thunderbird to 0000 (---------)
Using nautilus i can change the privelages too, but the privelages for the owner also becomes the privelages for the group and everyone else :S So what do i do? :S
My second issues is that every file, wether it be .avi, .txt, .pdf, .mp3 or anything else, Gnome recognizes it to be textfiles all of them. So it tries to open my .avi files with gedit. If i change it to open with totem, totem will try to play my text files Might these two cases be related?

  • Remove file path and title from PDF? URGENT

I'm creating a PDF from multiple HTML files. The HTML document title appears at the top of the PDF page and the path/filename appears at the bottom of the PDF page. How do I remove those?
I'm working from someone else's PC. When I generate PDFs from other HTML docs on my PC, the title and file path do not appear, so I figured that there must be a setting that I used once and forgot. The help has not helped, not has searching the knowledgebase. I'm using Acrobat 8 on WinXP Pro.
    Thanks!

But I'm not using the Create from Web Page option. I'm using Create from Multiple Files. I'm combining 20 files from different folders.

  • System information - create date, file paths, etc

How do I add system information to the master page of a form so that I can see the create date, last
updated, page numbers and file path information and have it printed on the bottom of each page?

You can access the Doc object that is exposed in the Acrobat JavaScript API.
    For example,
    var doc = event.target;
    xfa.host.messageBox("Author " + doc.author + " Created date " + doc.creationDate + " File path " + doc.URL);
    See Doc API reference at

  • Url and File Encoding

    I have the following scenario:
I have a directory which has directory names and filenames encoded in what I believe is utf-8 (the content is html). The files are derivates of DMOZ/World so they are in various languages. I can see accent marks and cryllic/greek, etc in the windows file explorer.
I need to zip this directory up (using java) and then upload it to a server and then unzip it using php. I am uncertain what encoding the server is using.
Do I UTF-8 Urlencode the file names and file paths and then zip and upload?
If so then do I need to also urlencode the links within the html?
    thanks

    It's not a bug, it's a lack of a feature.
The design of the Zip format requires a filename to be stored as bytes in the archive, but doesn't specify what encoding should be used to do that. Back in the days when the format was invented, that didn't matter because you could only use ASCII characters in filenames anyway.
Then when Unicode started infiltrating file systems, there was nobody powerful enough to fix the format by specifying an encoding, and the big players in the archiving field didn't care because the way they did it was de facto correct anyway as far as they were concerned.
I don't know how Microsoft and WinZip encode their filenames these days, but at any rate Java's zip classes don't even provide the option to specify an encoding. I am pretty sure that several bug reports have been filed in regard to this missing feature but I don't believe anything has been done yet.

I tried to rename a file, it gave me an error message (can't remember the number - 43??) and then the file disappeared from the original folder. When I do a search, the file comes up under the new name, but it does not show a path, and even though preview shows the contents, I can't open the document (Powerpoint) and I can't move the document. I tried "Copy" and paste but it doesn't work. I tried "Share" with Airdrop and iChat, but the file is inaccessible. When i try to rename the file, it says the filename is too long.
When I try to open it, it says the alias is not good, and asks if I want to fix the alias. I'm afraid to do that and lose all access to this document.
Right now, it feels like a ghost document - it is on the computer intact, but it is in an undisclosed location and inaccessible.
    Please help!!

I was able to resolve this by repairing permissions, even though no permissions error was listed specifically for that file.
I could also have recovered it through Time Machine, but I'm interested in knowing how not to have this happen again!
I was afraid of rebooting and possibly losing track even of the ghost.
I did not try EasyFind - I'll keep that in mind next time.
    Thanks for all the comments.
