Software Labeled Macbook compatable with iMac G5?

I recently purchased a used iMac G5 ppc and it works great! I Love it...but I just noticed that the software package I recieved with it is labeled Macbook. It should still work on the iMac right?
Just curious. Thanks

There are two flavours of apps for the Mac: the ones that are labeled just Mac (which are for PowerPCs Macs like yours but will run under a piece of software called Rosetta on an Intel Mac - emulation) and the ones labeled Universal (which will run natively under both architectures).
Shouldn't that be 3 flavours? PPC, Universal and Intel Only.

How much of a hurry are you in, and are you considering upgrading to Lion?
File Vault on Snow Leopard only encrypts home folders you select, and doesn't work well with Time Machine.
But Lion will have "full disk encryption" of local or external disks.  See File Vault 2 here: http://www.apple.com/macosx/whats-new/features.html

  • Does HP have updated software & drivers available & compatable with windows 10

Up graded my HP Pavillion 17z f100 CTO energy star to windows 10 a few days back and not more than 2 hours later I was infected with crossbrowse & one other browser hijacker (something like infinity )along with a host of other bundled up malware and adware - Took several hours to un-install & clean up those Pernicious Kinits and I'm still not certain if a few of them aren't lurk'en in the creases - Niether MS Defender nor any of their various virus scans even detected the obvious malware so I pulled & ran a few malware links off the MS forums page - they did help but like I said I'm still a bit hinky about how thourough they were Then today I visited HP's support page to make sure I was runn'en the most current and appropriate software and drivers compatable with Windows 10 - yet when I went to up-date them I was not given the option to choose win10 as my OS only 8.1 so I opted to pass until I investigated further - I have 2 actually 3 questions for all my HP heroes out there who have been of such tremendous help in the past - 1 ) Does HP even have new software & driver updates available and designed for compatability with win10 and if so why do you suppose they were not available to me on the support site - woulda thought HP would have had them ready for the release - 2 ) Has anyone even heard of any current Malware removers that are effective with win 10 3 ) I fear that I may have pulled the trigger to quickly by installing win 10 before taking a few  temperture readings first - So honestly would you all advise that I revert back to 8.1 for a few months until the bugs are worked out of the new operating system  or is confidence in the rapid success of win10  high enough that it might warrant stick'en it out - I know alot of you have been runn'en the preview versions for some months now & I do trust your opinions and follow your advice - Once again I thank you for your time and consideration an shall look forward to your responses - Paintbrush -

You are worrying about this way too much, simply connect the iMac using the supplied USB cable that comes with the UPS. Then check the Energy Saver settings in System Preferences and you will see the UPS and be able to control it.

  • How to sync macbook air with iMac?

How do I sync my macbook air with my iMac?  I want to use the iMac as my server and use the MacBook air as a traveling machine.  Thank you.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
If you mean "How do I mange e-mail and/or files between two or more devices"? You have to get organized.
If you have POP3 mail it's somewhat complicated: you set your "traveling machine" to receive (but not remove from the e-mail server) new messages. Realize that if you reply from the traveling machine that message will not show up anyplace but the sent box of the machine from which you sent the reply (you can export/import sent messages via a jump/thumb drive back to the desktop when you cease traveling). If you delete a message from the traveling machine you may/or may not have it also deleted from the e-mail server. All those choices or options are sent in e-mail behavior or options (what it's called/where its found depends on your choice of e-mail client)
The desktop machine is set to download messages from the server. When you are traveling the e-mail client must not be started or running (or you may miss messages on your traveling machine because they were downloaded at home before you turned on your traveling e-mail). Once get home you start your e-mail download all messages still left on the server - delete duplicates and import your sent messages.
If you have an IMAP4 e-mail client it's much simpler you set up the traveling machine to leave all the e-mail on the e-mail server. You will see all the "new" messages AND when you get home you can have the Desktop see/download your mail sent from the traveling machine as the traveling machine was acting as a "terminal". Again exactly how you do this depends on your choice of e-mail client.
For files you would keep a copy (or backup) on iCloud, or you could keep all your work organized in folders that can easily be transferred to jump/thumb drives or accessed through file sharing on your home network.

  • HT1338 attempting to update operating system software on Macbook Pro with OSX 10.4.11 what is the cost and how

attempting to update operating system on macbook pro with osx10.4.11.
how is this accomplished and what is the cost ? is the worth the expense give the age of unit?

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
OS 10.6 Snow Leopard is once again available from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.

  • Upgrade Mac OS on my iBook and compatibility with iMac

    Hello,
I had an iBook bought around 2002 in the US and it's a G3. I've moved to Thailand and haven't used it a lot due to limited applicability in Thailand. But now, Mac is more available so I'm now considering bought the new iMac. I wonder if I can upgrade the OS X on my iBook to the latest one so that I can have my old iBook sync-ing with the new iMac. And, to use the new features such as time machine, etc... Does anyone know or have done this before? Please help advise.

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
The iBook G3 (Dual USB) can run Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), but cannot run the newest Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard). Time Machine is a feature of Leopard, so is not available for the iBook.
I'm not sure how well syncing works between the two OSes, since I don't sync my computers. You can access one from the other, however. I access my eMac (in OS 9.2.2) from my MacBook (in OS 10.4.10), both saving files to the eMac and retrieving files from it.

  • Installing Quicken software on MacBook Air with VMware.

I am a new MacBook Air user and have installed VMware so that I can install Quicken software (which only operates on Windows).  I am having all sorts of trouble; when I try to install Quicken in my USB superdrive, nothing happens.  It won't load the software.  I have tried "autorun" in "windows" but I don't know the name of drive. Sorry, I have very basic knowledge so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Sounds like a VMWare Support problem.
I have no such problems with Parallels.
I assume you are aware that Intuit sells Quicken 2007 for Lion, Mt. Lion and Mavericks for $15, but you want to continue to run a PC Version?

  • Want to sync new MacBook Air with iMac.

Just got a new MacBook Air, and would like to sync (iCal, Contacts) with existing iMac OS 10.6.8, without using iCloud - at least until all the bugs are worked out of iCloud.  Any suggestions or words of caution?

None that I'm aware of. I don't know precisely how to sync everything without iCloud but you can copy your data so it is on both machines. Just open adress book, go to File, Export and select Adress Book Archive, save the file then copy and open it on your Macbook Air. For iCal it's practically the same proceedure.
    Hope it helps!

  • Macbook Compatability with Microsoft 3000 mouse

Unable to get mouse to work with Macbook OSX 10.6. Is mouse compatible with Macbook

I can't say for sure about a 3000 mouse, but I recently bought a Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000 to use with my Mac mini running 10.6.4 and I found that the disc supplied did not have the most up to date software. The 'check for new software' (buried in the Microsoft mouse preferences, not the Apple 'Software Update...' ) claimed there were no new versions available.
However, when I went to http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/ and looked in Download Software I found a newer version. After downloading and installing it the mouse works well.
There are several types of 3000 mice listed, 'IntelliPoint 7.1 for Mac' is recommended for the ones I just checked on (also my 5000, which came with 7.0). Have a look there for your exact model, and see if the download is different than the supplied software.
    Good luck,

  • Lion compatibility with iMac ?

I have the iMac 4.1- intel core duo 2Ghz , 2 GbRam; can I run Lion ? troublefree ? only Lion will work with iCloud, MobileMe will be gone within months; so unless my'07 iMac will run Lion , I will be forced to buy a current iMac if I want to provide linkage to my "new" ('10) MacBook. Is this a case of progress leaving those behind who funded the progress ?

Sorry, Lion will not run on an Intel core duo system. You need an Intel core 2 duo or later system.  Lion requirements are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
