Software license question about Virtual PC 2007

Hi All,
I have craeted a virtual PC (Win XP) on my Win 7 PC virtual PC 2007. This virtual PC have installed crystal report 10. My question is, if I create another virtual PC (Win XP) on my Win 7 PC virtual PC 2007 and also install the crystal report 10. Does
I need to purchase another software license for the new one?
Best Regards,
Kenneth Lam

Microsoft does not provide support for the Crystal Reports products because Crystal Reports are SAP products, (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/317789)and we're not familiar with the license issue of this
product, I think you might need help in this SAP products support forum

  • Licensing question about OS X Server

I get a little confused about Apple's licensing of OS X Server.
If we buy a license for OS X Server, let's say it's a 10 client license, does that mean that I can create a bootable OS X image and install it onto 10 OS X clients without buying a license for each system individually, or does it mean that I have a license for one server that allows up to 10 clients to connect to it but each of the clients must have it's own, unique copy of OS X installed on it?
The reason I get confused is probably because of netboot images. To me, the presence of a netboot image that can be downloaded and used by a system on a network essentially says "Yes, you can generate an OS X image and distribute it to client systems" because clearly, I assume, every time someone starts a netboot client they cannot realistically download the entire OS. I have to assume that the client isn't created to be totally useless without a server present, after all, what if the server goes down? Does everyone just twiddle their thumbs waiting for it to come back up?
I'm not terribly familiar with any of this, although our (small) company has recently acquired a copy of OS X Tiger Server with a 10 client license. If we add more systems, do we need to get an OS X license for each of them OUTSIDE of the Server, or does the server license provide a provision for us to install a copy of OS X on each of them.
I hope I'm clear on this question, as "legal" documentation and its implications leave me very frequently dazed and confused.
    Thanks to all/anyone that responds.

The 10 client connection is for concurrent client connections over AFP. However, this should not be an issue if you are deploying Snow Leopard. Apple removed the 10 user product and only the unlimited server is available.
The reason I get confused is probably because of netboot images. NetBoot can get a little fuzzy. But the assumption is that all of the systems that you are NetBooting came with an original client license, so centralizing the OS to the server and then sharing it out does not exceed your licensing. OS X Server is a different product than OS X. You are running OS X Server on a server device, one server hardware per one copy of OS X Server. Server then shares out the client.
I'm not terribly familiar with any of this, although our (small) company has recently acquired a copy of OS X Tiger Server with a 10 client license. No. But if you get new machines, they are coming with Snow. Snow and Tiger will not interoperate easily. For example, Tiger server can not server Snow netboot images. Plus Tiger is a bit long in the tooth so finding hardware to boot it might be more trouble than it is worth.
Let's assume you have 20 machines running Tiger and they originally came with Tiger. If you deploy the Tiger server, you are fine with everything except the concurrent client connection limitation of the 10 user license. However, if your clients are running newer versions of OS X and you need to upgrade the Server OS, then you may need to upgrade everything. For example, if your clients are Leopard but you buy Snow Server, then you need to upgrade your client licenses to Snow as well.
I hope I'm clear on this question, as "legal" documentation and its implications leave me very frequently dazed and confused.

  • Hyper-V: Questions about Virtual Switches

    Hello,
This question concerns a computer running Windows 8 Pro.
Using Hyper-V, I have created a virtual machine running Windows XP Pro. (we must use it to run a very old CAD program so that we can access our legacy drawings from years ago)
I am not concerned with Internet access for the virtual machine; I just want it to connect to our LAN.
Anyway, so far, so good; I created an external virtual switch, and it works just fine. However, I have noticed that the virtual switch "takes over" the computer's physical NIC. This is making network access from other computers to
this machine very, very slow. (it has other functions in this office)
So, I tried changing the virtual switch to either Internal or Private. This "released" the physical NIC and greatly sped up access to the physical machine, but now I cannot access the LAN from "inside" the virtual machine.
    So, my questions are:
    1. How do I access the LAN with a virtual switch that is set to Internal or Private? Is that possible?
    2. If not.... if I added a second physical NIC to the computer just for the virtual switch, would that work?
    Thanks in advance,
    -Kevin

    1. How do I access the LAN with a virtual switch that is set to Internal or Private? Is that possible?
Not possible.  Internal is local to the hardware.  Private is local to the VMs that are being managed only.
    2. If not.... if I added a second physical NIC to the computer just for the virtual switch, would that work?
    Yes, this is one solution.
The other solution is most likely to tune the driver settings of the physical NIC.  Disabling the multiple TCP Task offloading options.

  • Question about Virtual Hosts with Apache 2

    Hi,
I have a mac mini with 10.5.4 and I was wondering if it is possible to host two websites on this one computer. What I mean by this is I have an ip address 12.34.56.78 that points to the mac mini.
I also have two domain names, say example1.com and example2.com, each with total DNS control. Is it possible to point both domains to 12.34.56.78 and have different pages show. For example when example1.com is loaded, the file /Library/WebServer/Documents/example1/index.html is loaded. When example2.com is loaded, /Library/WebServer/Documents/example2/index.html is loaded.
I have tried to do this with virtual hosts, but I can't seem to get it to work. I seem to have permission problems with apache 2 and I get the forbidden error.
If anyone knows if this is possible, and how to do it that would be of great help. Thanks.

Awesome, thanks David! I look forward to reading this. I've

  • Licensing question about Java Embedded on Lego Mindstorms

    Re: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/embedded/downloads/javase/javaseemeddedev3-1982511.html
We are seeking licensing options or free-of-use permission to allow us use the above Java Embedded on Lego Mindstorms in our learning center program.
Currently, we are using lego mindstorms nxt and plan to upgrade to EV3.  We believe that your embedded system is very practical for us to introduce Java to our clients. Our service charges fees and runs after school hours for k-12 school students once a week.  The usage of your program would include:
    1. Demonstrating  Java Embedded on Ev3  to parents who are seeking new learning experiences for their chilldren;
    2. Using and teaching Java Embedded on Ev3 in classroom for k-12;
    3. Displaying  the name and screenshot of the Java embedded on Ev3 on our website.
Please advise us of what licensing and price we would need to accomplish this.
    Thanks,

thats the exact error, could it be something of the automathic update of the driver once the joystick was conected through the usb?

  • Question about Virtual Surro

Does the XFI CMSS-3D feature create a virtual surround using the multitrack audio information. Or does it create an expanded sound stage from the stereo track of the file? What are the settings needed to get true virtual surround over headphones?

I had my sound options set to headphones, naturally as I was using headphones. However I tried selecting 5. speakers and running the speaker test. Rear channels really sound like they're behind me although not stereo. Both LR and RR sound like there coming from the same place. Tried running a movie with a 5.. soundtrack and it sounded great.

  • Software Licensing Questions

If I created a standard windows application (.exe installer) from LabView Student Edition (Which I have) or Professional (Which I am planning to purchase when graduated), can I sell my application without getting any legal problem?

I don't think the student edition includes the application builder.
LabVIEW Champion . Do more with less code and in less time .

  • Software Licensing Question.

Does Adobe Allow those individuals that has legal Photoshop lincensing on PC, to have it transferred to MAC? I've been using PS since 6.0 but now have decided to go Mac.

The steps required for a platform swap are here
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/order-product-platform-language-swap.htm l
Only the current version (CS6) can be swapped without requiring you to purchase a cross-grade.
As Bill suggests, a Cloud membership may be a good option for you since you can activate it on Mac and/or Windows for the same monthly fee.
Another option may be Photoshop Elements. Unlike Photoshop, the PSE serial number is cross-platform. No platform swaps required for PSE.
That said, there should be nothing stopping you getting identical results in Photoshop on Mac or Windows. The Retina display on the MacBook may be visually stunning. What do those same images look like on your PC?
Is your workflow and technique the same as your friend's?

  • A few questions about my MacBook Pro?

Hey guys, I have a few questions about Virtual Machines and a few other random questions.
    1. Which one is the most "complete" in its features when compared to a plain install of Win. 7?
    2. Which VM should I purchase?
I have a 15" late 2012 MacBook Pro with a 2.6 ghz intel i7, 16gb ram and a 256gb SSD. (I was planning on running it off of an external hard drive— if that is possible)
    3. I have 206.12 GB of 255.2 GB free— should I just use boot camp instead?
    4. If I use Boot Camp, do I have to delete the data that's on my Mac currently to install Win. 7 or can I partition my current drive and keep my data?
    5. What is the "other" data that's taking up 25.51 GB of space on my SSD? (I have the same problem on my iPhone, but that's a different problem.)
    Thank you very much.

  • Lumira Server for BI Platform and Team/Edge consumption & licensing question

Hi.  I have a few questions.
    Question 1:
From my reading, I've heard that Lumira Edge/Team server may not be a part of BI-Suite License.  I read a Lumira Server ASUG Webcast recap by Tammy Powlas here (SAP Lumira Server for Teams Roadmap ASUG Webcast) over the weekend and one of the Q&A questions struck me:
Q: Is this included with the BI Suite license from SAP?
A: Lumira Server for Teams (Edge Edition) is not covered under BI Suite License. However, Lumira Server for BI Platform (RTC Planned in April) is covered under BI Suite licenses
In a separate conversation late 2014, I thought I'd heard that Lumira Team/Edge server was supposed to be usable by BI Suite licensed customers, but it sounds like I'm mistaken?
    Question 2:
Next, the second part of the statement gave me hope:
However, Lumira Server for BI Platform (RTC Planned in April) is covered under BI Suite licenses
I then looked at the Lumira Deployment Options for Departments Part 1 – ASUG Webcast by Tammy Powlas to get some more information on Lumira Server for BI Platform.  This slide gave me some hope (emphasis mine in green):
But then I see some more information a little later:
Is this slide to imply that the version without HANA (or HANA XS) for BI Platform will only really just serve as a user rights management and Lumira document repository?  And that if I want to view a Lumira document, I must still open from the Lumira Desktop client?
It was suggested I start a new discussion thread to ask this licensing question about a product that's not out yet (but the slide says it's GA so I'm still confused) so here I am with my discussion thread!
Hopefully someone can make me less confused.  I'm hoping the answer is as a BI-Suite customer that we do not have to make a decision to either invest in new Edge/Team licenses or buy HANA XS hardware to establish a beachhead of Lumira usage in our organization.  We've been struggling with promoting Lumira and the sharing piece has been the sore spot.

  • A question about Oracle 1g R2 Enterprise Edition license

    Dear all,
I have a question about Oracle license and I would appreciate if you could kindly help me.
I have installed an Oracle server (11g R2 Enterprise edition) on a linux virtual machine. The pc used for this purpose
is my enterprise laptop (therefore a professional and not a personal Computer). However, I use the this Oracle Server
only for learning purpose, that is, only for running the examples in my Oracle Press books (SQL, PL/SQL and some
administration tasks) just for learning the stuff.
There is absolutely no data related to my enterprise, stored or used on this server. Whenever I want to work with my
enterprise data, I use the Oracle server of the enterprise which has of course the appropriate license. So as I said, I
use this Enterprise server on the virtual machine only for running queries/programs in my Oracle Press books just for
learning and I'm the sole person who uses this server (no remote connection for other users).
The reason for which I needed to install this server on my PC was that our DBA couldn't provide a training environment
for me with all required privileges and functionalities.
Am I supposed to buy a license for this installed Enterprise server on my virtual machine?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Question about managing application licenses together with netboot

    Hello
So far I had made no experience with an MacOSX Server netboot configuration but we plan to introduce it in some weeks. Therefore we are "wondering" how management/assignment of application licenses is working in a netboot configuration. Normally in a local MacOSX configuration licenses for application are in generally assigned on the application (some are bound to a certain user name, others to the CPU ID) and is valid for all users login to the same computer. How and at which time are application licenses (for example MS Office 2004, Adobe Acrobat etc.) assigned in a netboot environment?
Many thanks in advance for any clarification and with best regards, André Müller

    Hi Andre,
Is this a technical or legal question Either way it is an interesting question about a major grey-area, and I wonder if anyone has the right answer.
Boiling your question down to specifics, it could be...
I have 15 individual Photoshop serials. I want to run Photoshop off a NetBoot image for 15 simultaneous users. Can I install one serial on the image, and allow 15 users to open Photoshop simultaneously. What if I want to install the image on 20 machines, but only 15 users will ever use Photoshop simultaneously.
There is a technical answer and a legal answer to the question. I don't know if there is a 'right' answer since multi-user installations of titles that are technically possible under NetBoot may not be allowed legally under the user license agreement you committed to on breaking the seal on the software. And these agreements are different for different countries.
Here's the technial answer. Sometime before OSX server 10.0, when Apple introduced netboot technology, developers were advised not to perform network scans checking for duplicate serial numbers when aps start up.
In practice this means you can install software title on your image, activate with a serial number, and it will not conflict with the other identical versions of the same application on other images on the network.
FileMaker Pro is the only software I am aware of that doesn't play by these rules, altthough it no longer checks when the applicaton starts, but when any FMPro network activity is started.
Here's the leagl answer. It depends on the title and the country you are in. The legality is definded under the eulas for the titles concerned. I don't know if the leaglity has ever been tested in a court of law in any country in this context.
The easy way to do the right thing for some titles it to purchase a multi-user serial number, ie. a single number which will work for 5 or 10, 20, 50... etc. users. Fore example, FileMaker has a volume licensing serial number which I beleieve can be purchased in increments of 10 users. However, not all titles offer this option, though, and it's difficult if you need 12 copies and have to buy 20.
Sassafras software http://www.sassafras.com/ sells Keyserver, which may be an appropriate solution. Keyserver tracks installations and authenticates serial numbers to ensure no more than the licensed number of copies can be run at the same time.
I don't think I've answerede your question for you but hope to have expanded the contxt of the question for other suggestions.
    Good luck,
    b.

  • 3 questions about the evalution license ?

Hi - I have some questions about the Weblogic Server Eval license.
Before I start let me just say I'm not trying to rip BEA off, I just
    want to know what's possible.
    1. Firstly what happens after the 30 days does the server just not
work or only work in a restricted form ? If restricted, how so ?
    2. I read that the eval edition will only access 3 unique IP
addresses. I intend to have WL running on a RedHat linux box whilst
the pages are served by IIS on a W2K box (both machines are on our
internal LAN). Am I going to be able to do this with the eval license
? I'm not quite sure what the 3 IP addresses refer to ...
    3. Do I need anything super-strong in the way of a Linux box to run
this on ? I've got an old Pentium with 32Mb of RAM in it. I can't see
a "minimum spec" on the BEA site. Bear in mind it's not to do any
"real" work just to give the thing a run around the block ?
    4. When the Eval license is dead what's the minimum amount a small s/w
house would pay for a licence to develop under (US (or anywhere)
prices will do I just want a ballpark).
Sorry that was 4 questions ;-). I'd appreciate any information you
    have to share.
    Thanks
    Richard Shea.

1)The server won't start if the license expires.
2)The 3 unique IP'S refer to the number of clients that can access the
server. It means that WLS will server requests coming from 3 different
ip's at most. A request coming froma 4th client with a different ip will
    be rejected.
3)I guess 32 MB's is relatively less The default scripts always use 64 MB
exclusively for the JVM . Having 32mb RAM means that a part of it will be
used by t he Operating System and other Applications. You might experience
    OutOfmemory errors and slow performance
4)email [email protected] and they should be able to handle this
