Software Metering - Lync Clients

Hi,
Can we track Lync usage by Clients in Software metering reports of SCCM in such a way that we get to know which id is logged in Lync account against which host name.
Thanks!!

No really, as that's not what software metering does. Software metering simply records process creation and termination and the user account starting the process. This ultimately has nothing to do with the actual credentials used to log into Lync though
-- that's something you'd have to track on the server side.

  • Automatic creation software metering rules

    hi
I have installed SCCM 2012 r2 with two servers .A site server and a database server .I enabled software metering on client settings and software and hard ware inventory .But I ve got a problem that sccm doesn't create software metering rules automatically
.I had already enabled Automatic create software metering rule on SMW properties . But no luck yet.
when I create a rule manually It works fine but Its not working automatically .

you have configured 2% of computers must use the disabled programs to activate automatically (Specify
the percentage of computers in the hierarchy that must use a program before a software metering rule is automatically created) .so pls check if any of the computers are using the disabled programs or not.Login to test computer and use the disabled
program and then check the status.

I have a problem with my Lync Client. It simply crashes before the sing-on with following error appearing in application log:

Needless to say I've done all basic steps; reinstalling the office, updating with all the latest Office & Windows patces, repairing it, tried it with another / empty user account, etc. This is a new machine with clean Windows installation without OEM

Only clients "Starting..." screen is showing before the crash.

Please check if Word, Excel work correctly.

  • Software Metering Report - Install base for all metered software programs - Returns 0

    Hi All
I have an issue with one of the software metering reports, Install base for all metered software programs. when run it returns that the metered software is installed on 0 computers.
All usage reports seem to work correctly and I can see usage data for the monitored applications. But anything related to install base such as the one listed above and "Computers that have a metered program installed but have not run the program since
a specific date" either return 0 or are blank.
Any help will be greatly appreciated

    Hi All
finally found a fix to the problem. It was very closely related to what Gareth  had mentioned regarding Asset Intelligence. The actual method of detecting if a program is installed is done through Software Inventory
Under Custom Client Settings i had enabled Software Inventory on client but never setup any rules to gather data. So i created a new rule for all *.exe files and around an hour later the report started to show up clients.
This blog post also describes the method of setting up software inventory correctly
Thanks to all the help and hopefully this will aid anyone else encountering similar problems

  • SCCM 2012 Reporting Capabilities for Software Metering

    Hi,
I've been requested by my supervisors to get some information on metered software and computer usage in a specific lab, but I am unsure if I can obtain all the information they requested with just using SCCM.
I've already set up metering rules for the programs they want information on, software metering is enabled on the clients, and all of the lab computers are in in Configmgr and have good clients on them.  Here's the list of the requests:
Total number of lab users by day
Total hours logged into lab computers by day
Total hours logged into a specific metered program by day
Total hours running different internet browsers
Total unique users over the course of a certain period of time
I am a novice when it comes to reports in SCCM.  Are there built in reports that can give this information or would I have to write my own custom reports, or is this level of detail not possible for SCCM to give?
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Lync client won't connect to a conference via dial-in number hosted on deterrent pool than conference.

    I have been
troubleshooting a very strange issue with Lync clients being unable to connect
to a conference via dial-in number when the conference is hosted on a different
pool. This happens internally and there is no media gateway or SIP trunk
    involved.<o:p></o:p>
    Users are
unable to join a conference from Polycom CX phones and Lync 2013/2010 software clients
by dialling conference Dial-in number which is located on a different pool than
actual conference. Users are prompted to input their conference ID, however,
they are never connected to the conference (10 min silence followed by error
    announcement). <o:p></o:p>
    This only
happens if the dial-in number is homed on a different pool than conference.
Both pools are Lync 2013 Standard Edition running on Windows Server 2012.
Servers and clients are patched with the latest CU.<o:p></o:p>
    I noticed that
when you call dial-in number’s SIP address, user will get transferred to a
conference (works ok). When you dial just a number users is never transferred
and RT Audio traffic still goes directly to a server which is hosting dial-in
    number.<o:p></o:p>
    After
checking Lync traces it looks like Lync client ignores the REFER message from
the FE server hosting Dial-in number and it never send an INVITE to the server
    whit active conference.<o:p></o:p>
    The only difference
between INVITES for working calls and calls that failed to connect to the
conference is the presence of the user=phone in TO header:<o:p></o:p>
    Working
    invite:<o:p></o:p>
    TO:
    <sip:[email protected]><o:p></o:p>
    Failed invite:

Please try to disable refer support for all pools.
The problem seems occur when Attendant transfer the call to another pool.

  • Lync client show contact is adding audio and the "Call was not completed"

the incoming call show is adding audio, the call can't pick up.
User is using Lync certificated headset. Others incoming calls is able to pick up.
    Any idea?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
To narrow down the issue, please test the issue with this issued Lync account on other computer Lync client (use the issued headset, then change to other well-worked headset), check if the issue still happen or not.
If the issue not happen on other Lync client, it can be the issue of Lync user profile, please try to delete the user profile with the following path:
    %UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync
Also delete the Lync user configuration information in registry with the following path:
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\[email protected]
If the issue also happen on other Lync clients, it can be the issue of the Lync account itself, please try to disable it on Lync Server side, and then enable it again to test the issue.

    hello all,

either. in both cases I get same error.any one with a resolution?

No it won't, it'll leave parts of the client not uninstalled.
Victor_Okpara\Serg Danshin did you ever get to the bottom of this issue? Did a Client reinstall fix it?

  • Lync clients 2013 fails to show video, but 2010 works ok.

We'v migrated from 2010 to 2013 Lync server. But some Lync clients in remote places are still 2010.
And today I'v discovered that in a conference for 50+ participants but only one speaker (audio, video and presentation) for some reasons no one of 2013 client and WebApp could see a speaker video. I'v first restarted a client, then
a device, but no effect. After 30 minutes we have to start without a video, but some users with 2010 clients wrought that they have a video of the speaker.
I'v installed a Lync 2010 to my test PC, and on the same PC, with the same credentials 2010 client video is ok, and 2013 shows only a video placeholder.
I’v created a test conference, and the same situation repeats with only 4 clients.
    Any suggestions ?

    Hi,
From your description above, did you mean only 4 special Clients have this issue?
If yes, please try to check the OC firmware, delete Lync user profile and Lync information on Registry, then test he issue again. If the issue persists, please check if the Lync 2013 client update to the latest version.

  • Work flow from Lync client to Lync mobile client

    Hi,
How does call flow from Lync client to Lync mobile client happens , how sign-in happens?  how call flow both A/V happens and IM  happens...?
Please explain me i have some confusions.

  • Uploading photo from Lync client with Exchange 2010

We are using Lync 2013 standard edition with Exchange 2010 in our environment.
In the client, if we go to Tools -> Options -> My Picture, the option to "Edit or Remove Picture" is greyed out.
I understand this is only available if we're on Exchange 2013, but someone somewhere must have figured out a workaround for this? Anyone know a reg-hack or 3rd party tool that would enable this feature?
I realize there is a method to turn back on the "Show a picture from a website" via powershell. I have already done this in our environment. However it is quite unrealistic to expect general populace to know how to resize a picture to less than
30kb (?!) and upload it "somewhere" on the web. Understandably this would be a nightmare for Help Desk having to help people resize their photos and find somewhere to upload it to.
    Any help/ideas would be appreciated!

You could centrally upload profile photos for your users into the AD's thumbnailPhoto attribute using...
    powershell:
    http://blogs.technet.com/upload-picture
    3rd party software:
    http://www.codetwo.com/freeware/active-directory-photos/
    http://www.cjwdev.co.uk/Software/ADPhotoEdit/Info.html
Lync client side upload into Exchange 2010 will not be possible as Exchange 2013 introduced HD photo and storing photos in the mailbox. Take a look at: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj688150.aspx

  • Lync Client User Search Stalling

I have a Lync server running LS 2010 on my network.  I recently finished the setup of the server.  The network is a Mac/Windows network.  As I setup the Mac clients, I noticed that searching for clients returned no users.  I switched
the client policy value of AddressBookAvailability to WebSearchOnly.  Now, when I search for users in the Lync client, I get a spinning wheel with no results which tells me that the client is not getting a response from the server.  The client log
don't show an error.  On the server side, I don't see any noticeable errors with respect to the Address Book service so I assume it's up.  I try running the Test-CsAddressBookService cmdlet and I receive a "No matching cluster found in topology
error".  Looks like the problem either has to do with the address book service or the topology error but I've reached a dead end because everything I've looked at so far has been alright.

    Hi,
On Lync FE Server Lync Server Management Shell, run: Update-CsAddressBook to trigger the Lync Server to sync current AD information in the SQL database into the downloadable client and device address book files.
On Lync client side, if possible, please also test the issue with a Windows client System. Check if the issue also happen on Windows System or not.
You can refer to the Jeff’s blog “Updating the Lync 2010 Address Book” to check the Address Book issue:

You could check out mtrmgr.log file from the client and see what happens if you open and close programs.
After that try to run "Software Metering Usage Report Cycle" from client interface.
I did that (with the program Adobe Acrobat XI, which is enabled in de software metering in SCCM)
