Software Pack 8.1.0 install fails "Phone Firmware Install failed"

Hello-
I have a brand new UC540 that I am trying to install the latest software pack on (8.1.0) using CCA 3.0.(1). I have gone straight into Maintenance>Software Upgrade and tried to run the update, but it fails with "Software Pack Installation failed, reason = Phone Firmware Install failed". I try to run the Software Pack install without any phone loads selected and the same thing happens. Also tried wiping the system to factory defaults, but it says the current factory default configuration is missing and I must download the version of the software package.
Not sure where to go from here, any suggestions?

In addition to David's excellent post make sure you configured the UC's IP Address as default gateway. In my case I had the exactly same problem. After a closer look I noticed that the UC used a different IP address for some tftp requests than the one from the directly connected network.

It looks like the UC used the Loopback0 IP address which was unknown because of the lack of a route/default gw. after i configured the 192.168.10.1 as default gw, the CCA update run trough like a charm

    In order to run Windows Applications, you must own the applications and, since they require Windows, you must own Windows. There are technologies like wine that will allow Windows applications to run without Windows, but they tend to be flakey at best.

  • What Features are provided by Software Packs 8.6.1, 2 and 3

    We have a UC560 customer with Software Pack 8.2 installed and they are wondering what, if any advantages there are if they upgrade to Software Pack 8.6.2.
    I thought there was a good feature Matrix published at one time, but I have been unable to find this. I googled CUE 8.6.5 and Software Pack 8.6.2 but it is as if it vanished from the face of the earth.
    Anybody know where I might come up with this?

    I have opened a Cisco TAC case to get this resolved. However it seems that the phone can be seen as a CDP neighbour but it is not getting an IP address and is sitting at the Cisco upgrade splash screen.

  • Cannot Install Software Update after a Clean Install

    I did a clean install of 10.5. I ran the initial Software Update and proceeded to install all the available updates including Version 10.5.4. I installed some software and later did another Software Update check. There were 2 more updates available.
    Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 1 adds support for Java SE 6
    Security Update 2008-005 (Leopard)
    I rebooted the iMac as requested and the Software Update window appeared. I checked both updates and proceeded. The progress bar proceeded about 1/8 of the way with the message Installing 2 items.... Configuring Installation. This appeared to hang there and I left it running overnight. When I looked at it again, the progress bar had not moved. I then tried each one separately, still using the Software Update. Same problem only that the Java update showed the progress bar 1 / 2 the way and is hanging there.
    I verified the disk and it was okay. I have used the iMac for almost 2 years and have never had a problem with the Software Update.
    Here is the last entry in the install log which seems to indicate the install was done, but the Software Update Window is still there with the "Installing 1 Item" message and I cannot stop the process or force quit it.
    Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    I guess I should be careful how I word my posts.
    I should have said I resolved the problem that I had. The solution to the problem was to do a manual download of the updates. That worked without a hitch and while solving the immediate problem did not help me understand why automatic updates failed to properly install the identical files.

    It is a relatively new iMac purchased from Apple in early 07. Yes, it was a a Retail Version of OS X 10.5 that I purchased when I upgraded 10.4, I have seen this problem many times in Windows, but never experienced it in the almost 2 years of mac usage. I guess I am not the only one having problems as there is a similar post made several hours after mine.

    I have a software update server and perticular updates fail when run on client computers. I have just been stuck disabling them in Server Admin. What is the easiest way to fix this. Some updates in peticular are 10.4.8 and different logic updates. Could these pkgs have become corrupted and need to be re-added to the /usr/share/swupd/html/ directory?

    Hi, I was wondering if you had made any progress on this problem. I have spent some time tonight looking at the update_list.txt file that the Apple Knowledge Base article shows you how to generate. I know for sure that the 10.4.8Combo updater is one that fails to install. I have noticed something that i cannot explain and would be interested to see if you see the same. Below is an excerpt from the .txt file. I noticed that some updates do not follow the folder numbering structure that the others do. The 10.4.8 Combo updater, along with a few others, begin with zzz.     I've just tried installing the 9 April update for the Zen Vision:M 30GB - the Creative Media Explorer 6.2.08 Software Pack for the Zen Vision:M30 and 60 GB. This is supposed to run under Vista. Well, it launches fine, but someone forgot to put the install dialogue as the top-level window in the installshield. The dialogue is hopelessly trapped behind the snazzy Creative background screen - it's not a separate application, so there's no way to switch it to the front. If you kill off the upgrade in task manager, you can see the dialogue for a few seconds, then it dies as well. Creative - can you please pull this back and repackage it so that it actually works?     I have a similar problem with my 8gb?zen. On installation of the sen media explorer I get the error message "Microsoft(C) Register Server has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." Installation completes but media explorer is not installed. As mentioned it doesnt mean the end of the player but it's nice to have full functionality from your new product. The price paid for these players, I think the least we can expect is a working suite of software. Actually, customer service gave up on me and said it is a Vista issue and they have not heard of such a problem before. Hmmmm, unlikely, unless my Vista 32bit (recently installed) configuration is unique.... and you don't exist.?I think they only way to get a solution is if others who have a similar issue post here. Hopefully some genius will figure it out, or Creative will address the issue. Mat

    You're running an old version of Safari. Before troubleshooting, try updating it to the latest version: 6.0. You can do this by clicking the Apple logo in the top left, then clicking Software update.
    You can also update to the latest version of OS X, 10.8 Mountain Lion, from the Mac App Store for $19.99, which will automatically install Safari 6 as well, but this isn't essential, only reccomended.

    Only some of the drivers that Windows will automatically install at times
    and always make sure to insure it is using restore points
    do all the maintenance andsuch as normal
    use MS Security Essentials for AV is really top notch
    Clean disk space
    Use WinClone new program to inisure you have a restore image

    Windows has a software updater built into Windows and when you install the Boot Camp drivers then it will install an Apple software updater also. I believe Windows is set to automatically download and install your updates as does the Apple software Updater. They both will update the individual files it needs to periodically.
    "Microsoft updates" and "Windows updates" are basically the same thing in Windows. Are you talking about the "Windows support software" when downloading from Boot Camp Assistant? Apple installs a software updater for it's Boot Camp drivers in Windows 7 so you can do it manually or automatically.
    The "Hot Fix" your referring to is only for certain motherboards built from other Windows only computer manufacturers and does NOT pertain to any Apple computers.
