Software problems with E71

Hi everyone,
My service provider recently sent me a Nokia E71, but it is causing me nothing but headaches. Currently I cannot open the menu at all no matter what I try. The first time I encountered this problem I did a hard reboot after the reboot I then had the messages app freeze so I had to reboot the phone again. Now less than 24hours after the second reboot the original problem has returned.
Is there a way to fix this without rebooting the phone? I cant keep rebooting every day just to have the basics working, especially as the phone is not even a week old. Has anyone else encountered this and if so how do you fix it?

even though it says e71-1 (which is similar to that of the US version)
if the unit is "branded" then in almost every case, you cannot update the firmware unless the carrier makes an announcement and releases an updated firmware version.
this is because they have cusomized the units firmware, which is not made by Nokia, rather, it is made by Symbian, which is what the software is that runs on Nokia's hardware, and if you were able to connect your branded phone up to the NSU (nokia software updater) then it would in effect write the update OVER the carriers cusomized firmware on the device...which they do  not want.
you could try to contact the carrier and see if they will give you the unlock key for the device and walk you through unlocking your phone, then try to do the NSU updater to see if it will recognize your phone that way. 
otherwise, the only option is to do one or both of the following:
*#7380# - reset settings
*#7370# - reformat the device
again, if you have a branded phone, these codes may not work either.
if they do not, try to find in the manual for reseting the device using a key pattern ie-hold the green button (send)+3+ (* button) while rebooting the device.

  • Software problems with the zen visio

    hey,
    i just got the zen vision m yesterday. very nice day.
    today after finding out that the player works well i decided to upload some more music and pictures then i did yesterday, but everytime the zen media explorer hangs itself up i uninstalled all the software and then reinstalled it, but again i didn't work when it comes to the upload
    i'm clueless, is this a common problem and are there any other software or a new uptdated software versions, which may help me?
    i really really want that player to work, because the -2 hours i got with it were great
    i got the zen m 30 gb working on windows xp home...

    edit: it's the upload assistent who doesn't want to work anymore...
    downloaded a update for the zen media explorer but nothing changed...

    I use Widows XP Professional SP3 and Windows XP Professional x64 SP2 with medially .
    I can't see why this matters because the problems are located at the player itself, I've got no
    problems with moving files to the player or any problems with connecting the player with the computer,
    I'm experiencing a lot of freezups of the firmware of the player, harddisk keeps running, it does that
    till the battery is low or till I push reset, sometimes this doesn't help at all, the operating system at
    the harddri've gets somehow damaged by the instability of the filesystem, reflashing the firmware helps
    the. Problems appear to be a software problem with the firmware, the player went away for repairs once,
    with this problem, they have checked the harddisk, harddisk was fine but the os crapped up it's self
    somehow, know this because I asked them to tell me every thing what was wrong and how they solved this,
    asked them also how I could fix the player myself? if it was no hardware problem.
    They told me to reflash the firmware and format the dri've from the service mode out.

  • TMobile says software problem with N96

    Tried tonight to get N96 phone with tmobile but website says phone out of stock. Phoned customer services to see when phone expected to be in and was told by one of their people that it had been withdrawn because there was a software problem with it and they had no idea when the phone would be back in stock. Anyone shed any light ? Is it tmobile specific? Am gutted coz looks an excellent phone.

    If you look further up the thread you'll see that T-Mobile have since withdrawn the N96. I suspect that they've had their fair share of complaints about software and they're busy branding V11, which means that a software update should be made available either via NSU or FOTA in the not too far future.
    T-Mobile themselves won't be able tell you because none of the front-line personnel have even the faintest clue about what firmware is. You'll have to wait and see.
    That, unfortunately, is one of the main drawbacks of having a branded phone.

  • Problems with E71 and fearing firmware update

    Hello, I currently have a Nokia E71 with phone software version 200.21.118 Installed and here are the following problems that i am facing
    I cant install or run java apps anymore and whenever im trying to open a secure page on the internet my phoine locks up
    also im having other problems with a few other apps locking up when they go online.
    I thought that maybe updating the software will fix the problem
    the fear that i have is i payed $700AU for this phone and im scared that updating it would make things worse or fatal

    I fixed it!  After calling Apple support, we tried every kind of reboot you can think of:
    command-option-P-R
    Command-option-R
    Shift key down
    unplug
    unplug and hold in start button for 30 seconds
    Nothing worked.  So I was going to take it in to the "Genius" bar, but I tried one more thing.  I unplugged everything from the Mac - monitors, USB, ethernet, everything.  Rebooted and waited for a minute.  I then plugged one of my monitors in and voilá!  the progress bar was there.  So there you go - good luck!

  • Is there a software problem with Airport Extremes?

    I recently bought a new 802.11ac next generation AE to replace my old generation AE mainly for the increased wifi speeds.  I have been having trouble though getting my proper wired speed using the router though.  I didn't have problems with the previous version in the past.  But now using the new one I get low speeds at times, but its not constant.  I have comcast and get 60 mbps speeds when hooked up straight to my PC. Using the AE, at times I get the same speeds, but usually now it drops all the way to like 12 mbps. I don't understand what it is, and thought about returning the AE but I have past my purchase time to return.  The other night I used speedtest.net and I got 12 mbps. So I unplugged the comcast modem and restarted everything and it went back up to 60 mbps.  But it seems to drop down to 12 constantly.  I tried the same process last night, and it did not return to 60 mbps, it stayed at 12.  So I still have my old AE, and hooked that up figuring I would not have the same issue.  Yet I totally did.  12 mbps again.  So is this some sort of software issue that is making this happen, I don't understand it.  I see people having trouble with WiFi speeds on here, but this is a wired connection.  I also thought I would test the wifi for the heck of it while I was getting 12 mbps wired through my AE.  So I used my phone connected to wifi and ran speedtest, and I got 23.  So how can my wifi speed get higher returns than my wired connection?  Can anyone help?

    I'm having a similar issue. I have TWC turbo cable in Manhattan. I get 20Mbps download speed when I connect a Mac directly to the modem via ethernet. When I use the current gen AirPort Extreme, my internet speed gradually decreases to unusable. Less than 1Mbps. Websites timeout before loading. My LAN still works, but internet crawls. Doesn't matter if a device is wired directly to Airport or wirelessly connected - internet crawls, if I'm lucky.
    This is after weeks of things running perfectly with this airport. Over the past few days, I'm dying.
    I spent time with TWC to make sure it wasn't on their end. Reset the modem. Ran signal tests. Rebooted everything. It's not an issue on their end. As soon as I plug directly into their arris modem, I'm golden. 20Mbps download again.
    I hard reset my AirPort Extreme, and set it up as if it was brand new. But internet speeds still drop to slow to unusable when I'm going through AirPort Extreme.
    Had some luck getting speeds up to usable by specifying DNS servers from TWC in airport, but this was false hope. Overnight, internet speeds were back down to less than 1Mbps.
    Again, if I connect a mac directly to the modem, I'm getting 20Mbps speeds again, as I should.

  • Software Problem with 5800

    Hi,
    I am using 5800 with the software version V 30.0.011. My set gets hanged when during an incoming call or  an incoming message. the ringtone stays stuck so is the vibration... I cant stop it by any ways .. The only way is removing  my battery.Cant even switch it off.
    Is this a usual problem with 5800??

    No it is not. Is the phone new? Also your software may be updated. The latest version if v40.
    Also please check if the problem still occurs if the memory card is not inserted.

  • Is it a hardware or software problem with my hard drive?

    A few days ago, I was burning a dvd on my Powerbook G4. It was taking a few minutes and I left. When I came back the dvd burn had completed but my screen was filled with a lot of text and codes. It was also frozen, all I could do was force the machine to quit. It said I had a corrupt stack and system failure. When I tried to restart, the computer failed to find a start-up disk. Using an option key hold down on start and the OS 10.4 installation disk I was able to get started. When ran disk first aid, the internal drive had file structure problems with bit maps and trees not large enough(??), or something like that. So I asked disk first aid to repair the hard drive. It whirred, and after a bit it said the hard drive was repaired. When I restarted from the repaired drive, things seemed ok, but not for long. Again everything froze up. I repeated the option start-up and disk repair. Again the utility found problems and repaired them. Same story when I restarted.
    So next time I installed the OS 10.4 on an external fire drive and used it as the start-up disk. This seemed to work fine. After checking to make sure all my data from the failing drive was backed up to another drive (I have two ext fire-wire drives connected), I thought I would erase the affected drive and reinstall the OS. I did that, and then updated the OS to 10.4.8.
    My problem now is that whenever the computer seems to be using the internal drive, whether booted from it or not, eventually something will freeze-up. Also, I am sure this drive was s.m.a.r.t. enabled, but now it says it is not smart supported. What's happening here? I do not have a hardware test in my utilities and I do not know if I have a physical problem with the drive or a file structure problem that recurrs for some reason. What is my next move??

    Thanks for the Seagate info eww. My pb is a 800 MHz so I'll stick to finding a 120Gig HD. After my last posting, I wanted to make sure this hd was faulty and so I was running the computer booted up from the suspect drive. Things were fine for a while and after I had left the computer running and was away, when I came back, the screen was black and unresponsive to any prompt. I then went through 15 restarts trying to get booted up. I tried everything to get booted from the DVD drive and the OS install disk but it would go to the first screen where you select the drive to boot from and I would only get that ticking watch cursor and could go no further. Finally, I tried the restart with the command-S key route and got a disk os3 I/O error and a hfs early jnl init failed to open. I typed in fsck -fy and it seemed to run a disk repair similar to disk first aid. After a restart, I got to the finder screen but it ran very slow with that spinning pinwheel. I reset the pram again this time it said diskoS3, major 14, minor 2, HD appears OK. It then ran a little better until I was finally able to get to preferences and select the ext hd to boot from.
    So now I'm able to get back online to this forum and check on the postings. And again everything seems to work fine from the ext HD. So does that confirm that my int drive is "screaming Replace me!!"
    It must appear as though I am a glutten for punishment but I just like sorting these things out. Thanks for your help.

  • Problem with E71 Software Updater?

    When I use Software Updater to update my E71's software, all works well until I get to the screen with the "Update" button, which is greyed out and unclickable. I've tried rebooting the phone and my PC, but nothing changes.
    Has anyone had this problem?

  • Problem with E71 software instalation

    Hi! I have Nokia Suite and I wanted to update software for E71...but instalation stoped....Installation should reset phone but it is not.... Now when I turn phone on just  screen  turns  grey and turn off (instalation not complete).Computer does not recognize it  and if it is connected to the USB cable ....what to do.....please?

    If nothing works from THIS resource..you need to take the device to Nokia Care ...

  • Quickoffice problem with E71 Ver. 501.21.001

      When I updated my E71-2 to software version 501.21.001 I found that I could no longer edit Quickoffice spreadsheets while the "Nokia Messaging Email" Inbox was open.  I had been able to do this previously and on my E75.  Attempting to either edit a cell in a spreadsheet or to select another worksheet in a workbook while the Inbox was open caused Quicksheet to close and return to the file seletion menu.  The Version of Nokia Messaging Email is the latest, Build 9.7.0.21 (main).
      Upon investigation I discovered that the E71 update had also installed a new version of Quickoffice, Version 6.2.388.  There appears to be a conflict between this version of Quickoffice Quicksheets and the E71 501.21.001 software.
      I contacted Nokia support but they didn't seem to understand the problem or be able to provide a solution.
      I contacted Quickoffice Customer Support and they provided a URL to replace Quickoffice Version 6.2.388 with Version 6.2.217.  This solved my problem completely!
      It appears that the 501.21.001 update to the E71 installs a bad version of Quickoffice.
      I am making this post in case other people have a similar problem and in hopes that Nokia might fix this problem created by the update to the E71.

  • Software problem with 30 gig video ipod and itunes 7?

    ok ever since ive had my ipod it works nice
    now. since ive moved over to itunes 7 its messed up
    the first time, it didnt even update the software all the way and i had to restore it manually cuz i had 2 softwares on my iod.
    also when i ejected and pluged back in my itunes didnt see my ipod but windows did. thats also why i had to do the reformat/restore manually
    now here is the problem. is any one haveing this problem also
    anyt ime ive tried to update the content (music, videos, photos, podcasts, and what not) i got a problem saying
    "attempting to copy to the disk "bernard lor" failed. the disk could not be read from or written to"
    that happened the first 3 times. i un installed the software and reformatted my ipod.
    tried to update it with the previous up dater and when it was intilizing it said "Ipod service error"
    so then i just went and reinstalled itunes 7
    now . the first time i tried to update the contents, it didnt update, tried it agian and about 10 of 674 songs went on it and it was done :S
    confused i did it agian and another 180 went on. then it said "attempting to copy to the disk "bernard lor" failed. the disk could not be read from or written to"
    so far every time ive dont it it just adds more songs to the ipod but in chunks. and never updates the whole thing in one shot like it used to

    Last week there was a customer service phone number and I was able to talk to a very nice woman, Michelle, who tried several steps with me to repair. When we got off the line, I was given a case number to use to call back if the patch she emailed to me did not work. She did say that this is an issue with 7 and PCs that has not been resolved.
    Stupid me did not write the phone number down and it has been removed from their web site. I guess the amount of calls was too much.
    Like others, I have never even used my 30GB Ipod because of version 7. When Itunes does recognize it, it won't sync without trying to restore and then all of it crashes. I put it back in the box and keep checking the website for new software.

  • Problem with E71 battery

    Hi all,
    I have purchased new E71, the problem is that the phone is charged very soon, aprox. in 30 mins. and the battery lasts about 2 days. I have changed the phone, thought that it was phones problem, but same with the other. I have taken the battery to service centre and they told that battery is good. I updated the firmware but problem still exists. Can you make some advice?

    DO NOT DRAIN your batteries completely, this is anew generation of batteries and it actually is potentially harmful to them to drain empty. it also REDUCES the life of your battery. when the battery gives you the first signs of low batt indication this is a good time with modern batteries to charge. charge it until it says it is full. no need to charge any further than that. batteries come partially charged out of the box these days. plug one into the phone and use it until batt low, charge it to full again and repeat the first three to four times. after that battery is good to go and you no longer have to worry about it. you can charge it as you please, just keep one thing in mind, do not let it discharge completely.

  • Software problems with IBM RAD version 7

    We have recently upgraded a handful of our developer PCs with IBM's Rational Application Developer version 7 from version 6. After the upgrade all of those PC's show no software installed, but everything else is showing up fine. When reload a machine from the OS up, and we install version 7 alone without upgrading from version 6, everything works fine. Uninstalling IBM RAD from an affected machine then reinstalling just version 7 does not fix the problem. Has had any similar problems, and if so what did you do to correct it?

  • ABBYY FineReader third party software problems with Lion?

    My Epson scanner now needs drivers to suit Lion and after downloading these now works fine. However the supplied 3rd party ABBYY FineReader OCR doesn't work and after following the update links from both the Apple and Epson web-sites the only solution would seem to be to purchase a license for the new Lion compatible software.  I would have thought that Epson would have offered a replacement CD that would include all the upgraded software for Lion to existing users!  Has anyone been in touch with Epson and ABBYY to ask the question?

    The problem I faced, as others seem to have on this thread, is how to get the Mountain Lion compatible version of ABBYY.  Pasted below is the email response I received last October with the FTP link.  The problem was not with Epson (although I wish too that they had included the ML compatible software on the CD), but with ABBYY. I got this solution by interacting via email with ABBYY technical support staff.  Frustrating to all of us that we have to go to this length to get software that works.
    As to using the ABBYY software, it will not recognize a wireless-connected printer.  My workflow, as described above, is to scan and PDF a document (I now use Vuescan for that rather than Preview, but either works just fine), then run through ABBYY for OCR.  Gotta tell you that the OCR works perfectly!  The ABBYY software is also capable of doing OCR in a variety of languages -- I do both English and Spanish, and it picks up all the special Spanish characters without any problems.  Yes, I know that Vuescan can also do OCR, but ABBYY works far better.
    So here is the post from ABBYY (I deleted contact info from the person who sent it to me since it had the usual "confidential, do not post" stuff):
    Please do the following:
    1.     Remove ABBYY FineReader Express Edition.
    2.     Download the latest release of  ABBYY FineReader 8.0 Sprint (compatible with OS X 10.8) from the following ftp-link: ftp://Sprint8Mac:[email protected]=[email protected]
    To download please do as below:
    - Go to ‘Go > Connect to Server…’ in Finder,
    - Copy the link, paste it in and click OK.
    - Finder will open a folder containing the distributive.
    - Save the file to your hard drive.
    3.     Install the program from downloaded distributive.
