Software Release versus OS Version

Greetings,
In Link, the Software Release and OS Version for my PlayBook are 2.1.0.1917. For the Z10, however, the Software Release is 10.2.1.2977, and the OS Version is 10.2.1.3247. So, what's the difference between Software Release and OS Version?

The software release is everything including the OS, apps radio file etc. It's a package of programs basically and includes the OS; so the versions don't match as they are slightly different things.
When we say what version are you running - we usually want to know the OS version as that's what you get when you type in "myver" on the BlackBerry keyboard.

How do I tell what version (update / release level) of version 6 has been applied to my system? I have applied several different release levels to version 6 of FF but all the about feature tells me is Version 6.0. no version! This seems to be a change in the way updates are handled. Is that a bending because of the speed of which you're pushing out updates and new releases?

Nope, I never used Chrome, but I did try Chromium on my Windows desktop PC for a few months last year. I got tired of the Google updater. exe running all the time and Google's method of doing updates, so it's gone. I do have Chromium on my Linux EeePC since last summer, but Ubuntu handles all updates and gives the user the capability to accept or deny, any or all updates - much more to my liking, similar to the way Mozilla does it. I don't like software developers forcing to update until I am ready to proceed.
There's a lot more about this new Fast Release system, than just the lack of visible version numbers, that I don't like. The Nightly, Aurora, Beta, & Release sequence is dumb with the way it changes the version numbers. I prefer installing (for instance) what will become version 7 and have that installation progress thru the 4 stages, instead. Now it's like Nightly going from 7 to 8, Aurora going from 6 to 7, and Beta doing - hell, I won't know if it becomes a Release or if it just dies and I will have to install the Release version myself. ''Quite honestly I don't care, because I don't think this new "system" is going to last too long without major modifications. I also dislike the UI changes in 4/5/6/7 enough that I am still using Firefox 3.6 for almost everything and Firefox 2.0.0.20 for the rest. I have been setting my toolbars up almost like Mozilla did for Firefox 4, since Firefox '''0.7''' in 2003 and I haven't come up with a workable combination of mods and extensions to configure Firefox to look and work the way I have been doing for almost 8 years now.

Lost in device software release + french language pack ???

Can someone please clarify to me what the latest BB software release is for my Curve ?
I had RL 5 beginning os the year, which was in French (Do not remember if it was the default, or If I installed it myself and from where).
few days ago, I broke the screen and got a replacement BB, also RL5, but in English.
I wanted French, so I have installed "Blackberry 6 OS = multilanguage" ... but the only available languages I have are English US, English UK, portugal, ...), but not french (?!?!?)
So is the "Blackberry 6 OS" successor of "Blackberry Device software 5.0" ?
Is this "Blackberry 6 OS" available in French ?
It is a BB I got from my company, with "enterprise" subscription", so that I can get my mails.

Music, Photos, Videos... I can't sync anything for iPhone 4. When will Apple release the new version of iTunes?

I tried every methods up online trying to sync the music, photo, and videos. Nothing is working right now ever since I updated my ios to 7.
This is happening to most of people who owns iPhone 4, 4S, and 5. Does anyone know when will Apple release the new version of iTunes which will fix the sync problem?
What's the point of having a smartphone when you can't sync anything?

Software Release Patterns

Hi,
What sort of strategies do you usually use to manage software releases? Let say you have released Version 1.0 of your product, and you are actively developing version 2.0. How do you patch 1.0's bugs? I imagine most people would use branching to solve this issue. However, there are a lot of problems with branching too. What are your best practices?

I have followed different strategies, depending on scenario.
Most of the time the projects I work on are for just one customer and we do very frequent updates (e.g. every other week) In theses cases, bug fixes get integrated in the new version, which might get deployed within a couple of hours (or even minutes when the fixes are small but important)
In some of the cases the application is more like a product. In these cases you need to branch. I prefer the following process:
- write a testcase that covers the bug on the production version and on the development version.
- Fix it in the production version.
- If the fix in the development version is more or less identically include the fix in there as well.
- If not the next full release the bug will be fixed as well, since it is documented as a testcase. And the release won't be ready until it satisfies the testcase as well.

     it is showing "No Information Available" under Software Release.

Or one step further at Settings > About > OS > and you'll see the Software Release and the OS Version.
In this forum we most commonly refer to the OS Version.
If you have 'no information available' likely means you've installed a leaked OS file and that field will not be available.
No big deal.

If I go tot this window on finder and enter Time Machine I can go back and find old notes...
If so, am I doing this on my new hard drive on on the time machine? When I do this on the time machine, what is "my home"? Also, I am unable to find "containers".
If I go to users/jeff/library, then I see components, compositions, contextual, etc, but not containers.

How can I open a project that has been created with Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration software, on my trial version of Premier Pro CC?

I'm working with a colleague who is using Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration software on his PC version of Premier Pro CC. I am using a mac and have a trial version of Premier Pro CC. When I try to open a project file that he has sent me I get an error message-
"Missing renderer: This project was last used with Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA), which is either not available or not certified on this system. Mercury Playback Engine Software Only will be used."
When I click OK and locate the files I get a message saying "File format not supported".
Can anyone tell me what to do so that we can share project files?

10.5.8 is Leopard, not Snow Leopard. You need the Snow Leopard DVD;

10 OS Software release 10.2.1.537

I have been downloading and installing the 10 OS Software release 10.2.1.537 for wo hours now, does this seem normal? I don't have a 'great' internet connection, but its good enough. I need to know how long this should take? I should be notified ahead of time how long it might take? I have a message that says not to disconnect from a power supply during the process? Does that mean battery power or must it be plugged in? Thanks Help?

The file I downloaded was just under 500mg.
In my experience this was the fastest part of the process, the update takes up to an hour and then a further hour to reboot and for the hub and other services to get up to speed.

Probably don't need citrix software. Is you computer in the office on LAN? Also, is the office computer setup for remote access? If it's windows then its going to be running Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) natively. If it is in fact RDP that your windows machine at work is using then you need to download RDC for mac. I use it to connect to my work computer using RDP (don't tell the "Info Tech" dude at my office) and if your not too tech savvy I would suggest trying GOTOMYPC. It's alot easier to setup. But if you have experience in setting up remote access and your Windows office machine is connected through LAN and your IT TECH has allowed port forwarding then you should be just fine with RDP and it's free!!! But are you logging onto your actual computer at work or logging into the "SERVER" through your work machine... believe me it's two completely different things.
Basically, you'll need:
1. Physichal IP address of work computer. (If office computer is on WIFI this won't work) use IPCONFIG commands in command prompt
2. Port forwarding needs to be enabled by your IT Tech
3. Remote Desktop settings will need to be enabled on the office computer
4. Download RDC for mac (search google)
5. Type the physical IP address into RDC and hit connect... type in credentials and your all done.
We need lots more details though... there are many ways to connect remotely and if your office already has a system in place for remote access then any details would be helpful in determining which method will suit you best. If it's citrix just have your IT dude set it up. If you think you need citrix then good luck....

If you have no photos:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library' and start.
