Software Requirements - RAC on WINDOWS x64

PLEASE...can anyone help me...
THE RAC WILL WORKS ON THIS 3 MACHINES
1 WIndows 2003 x64 -> Node 1
2 WIndows 2003 x64 -> Node 2
3 Open filer for 32-bit -> Storage
or the operation system of my storage have to be x64 too ??
Thanks everybody!!!

RAC has almost nothing to do with the servers and everything to do with storage and networks.
What are you going to use for your public network?
For your private memory interconnect network?
To connect to storage?
What is "Open filer"? does it have a block sharable cluster file system? or RAW?
Shared everything does not mean sharing the C drive on another Windows machine.

  • 11g R2 - 2 node RAC on Windows X64 2003 Server

    hi
we are soon going to start building a 2 node 11g R2 RAC on Windows X64 2003 server
    questions
    1. In 11g R2, is creating 2 disk group DATA and FRA still considered the best practice?
    2. On which disk group should we place the OCR and Voting Disk
    3. If there are issues placing OCR and Voting Disk on ASM (there definitely appears to be some concerns / reported issues on this), is using OCFS2 still a viable option?
    4. Can someone point us to a document such as step by step installation of 11g R2 RAC on Windows with ASM or best practices 11g R2 RAC on Windows?
    thanks

A bit late maybe, but you can check Note 811271.1 - RAC Assurance Support Team: RAC Starter Kit and Best Practices (Windows).

  • Minimum hardware and software required to install RAC

hello friends i am new to RAC and i want to install RAC on 2 nodes and i want to know about the minimum hardware and software like (RAM,HDD,OS,EXTERNAL DRIVES,NIC,SOFTWARE FOR RAC<SOFTWARE FOR CLUSTERWARE<ASM REQUIREMENTS ETC)required to install RAC??
    thanx in advance

If you choose hardware, you will need a SAN server which is necessary for RAC installation. A SAN server is expensive.
As you are new, I suppose you just want to see how is a RAC.
You may try Oracle Virtual Machine which allows you to experience RAC/Linux installation upon a cheaper PC with only 4 Go RAM and 160 Go (Windows XP is suitable).
You need some experience on how to create cluster storage system (but this is offered by Oracle Virtual Machine or VMWare).

  • TS1717 Having trouble running iTunes version 11.0.2 on a Dell Laptop running Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1.  Keep getting an error message "the software required for communicating with iPods and mobile phones was not installed correctly..." reinst

Having trouble when I launch iTunes (version 11.0.2) on my Dell Laptop running Windows 7 Professional (service pack 1).  I get an error message indicating software required to communicate with iPod and mobile phones was not installed correctly.  Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you?  I normally respond with OK and it immediately tells me "could not be repaired.  Please reinstall iTunes..."  I have done this a number of times to no avail.

I also notice Quicktime is not getting installed at all.
That one is normal nowadays (ever since the iTunes versions 10.5.x).
The software required for communicating with iPods and mobile phones was not installed correctly. Do you want iTunes to try to repair this for you?
Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Do we need to install microsoft cluster software for RAC 10G

    Hi all,
Our company wants to install ORACLE 10G RAC on windows 2003 R2. Based on the pre-requisites I asked network guys to provide me the shared disk storage from SAN, but they insist that this storage will not be accessible until we have windows clustering software running on top of the two nodes. I want to use oracle clusterware for clustering.
Please let me know how does it work. Do i need to have windows cluster s/w first then install oracle clusterware on these nodes.
    Help is as always appreciated
    Regards
    Aijaz

    Hi Aijaz,
You don't need any clusterware beyond Oracle clustware, but if is a requirement to your company you can use another Clusterware to install RAC, if they are supported, check on metalink. The Clusterware from Oracle provide all you need to deploy a Real Application Cluster production environment.
With additional documentation, take a look on http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b14207/intro.htm#sthref21 for explain more about Oracle Clusteware

    Dear All ,
I want to know if latest XE edition is certified on Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit) 2008 OS ?
We have installed specific version on Windows x64 (64-bit) 2008 OS.
We get the following error :

    Action Plan
    ========
    1. Install 64-bit version of Oracle database software.
    2. Upgrade the database from 32-bit version to 64-bit version.
Can we use Oracle XE on specific OS ?

    Hello,
I want to know if latest XE edition is certified on Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit) 2008 OS ?No. See [url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17781_01/install.112/e18803/toc.htm#BABHICJH]XE's System Requirements for details.
Similar error messages have been reported here before, e. g. in {message:id=10665775}.
It seems possible to get XE started on 64bit Windows, but it might be a hard fight, especially on a server OS with other possible traps..
Can we use Oracle XE on specific OS ?Sure, all certified 32bit Windows versions or 64bit Linux versions would be fine. See {thread:id=2278170} to get a full report.

  • Does UTU v 1.1.1 run on Windows x64 clients?

Can I install CiscoWorks User Tracking Utility v. 1.1.1 on  Windows XPx64  or server 2003 x64 client? I have tried installing UTU on a 64 bit client OS and it appears to be successful, but when I try to right click taskbar > select toolbars I do not see the option to select User Search Band. I also tried a 32 bit OS client and UTU installs correctly. Is this related to OS bit version or something else? I am running LMS 3.2, with CM 5.2.1.

  • The software required for iPhone is not installed. Run the iTunes installer

I install and reinstall itunes many times following the "Support instructions" but nothing solve my problem.
At the end of each re-instalation, when i start itunes i get this message "The software required for iPhone is not installed. Run the iTunes installer to remove iTunes, and then install iTunes again".
The driver USBAAPL.SYS, and the Apple Mobile Device Support is never installed.
    Please HELP!
    Thanks.

    jaffy,
iTunes is not supported on 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows Vista or XP. As is stated in this kbase article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301301
    To quote the article:
"iTunes is currently not supported in Windows XP Professional x64 Edition or any 64-bit edition of Windows Vista. Features may or may not work correctly."

  • "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed..."

I realize my explanation of my problem is long-winded, so if you want a shortened version, here it is:
I've followed all the instructions trying nearly everything, and no matter what I do, iTunes gives me the error saying: "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software." My G5 iPod (60GB) works on two other computers (both without any music on them), so I assume there something wrong with my computer and not the iPod itself.
Now for the long-winded story of the last eight hours of my life...
I just got the Generation-5 iPod Video (60GB) a today and I'm having problems already. I followed the instructions and installed the iPod software and then plugged in my iPod (iTunes has been on my computer for a while now). I was expecting iTunes to open after plugging in the iPod, but my device manager only detected and installed "a new device". I manually opened iTunes and got an error saying: "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software."
After re-installing the iPod software and iTunes, and restarting my computer countless times, I came looking for help here. I found this page, which seemed to outline my problem exactly. My computer recognizes the iPod as a drive, but iTunes won't have anything to do with it. I have all the symptoms outlined in the heading, so I hoped to solve my problem there. I followed the instructions step-by-step, and after the final restart, I open iTunes to get the same exact error message.
I decided to determine whether there was a problem with my iPod or if it was my computer. I plugged my iPod into my uncles's powerbook, and got to the point where I can name and configure my iPod. I expected it to work flawlessly on a Mac (which it did) but there is no way for me to continue using a Mac (after tomorrow) for my iPod. This formatted the iPod for a Mac, so I went to another (different from the original) Windows computer, clean of any iTunes and iPod software, and followed the instructions exactly as they're supposed to be followed. After the installations, I plugged in my iPod, and although iTunes didn't open, I was able to format back to Windows and name my iPod (a step in the right direction). I should note that my (anti-iPod) computer is a Windows XP Pro, and the working one is Windows XP Home Edition. This was all well and good, until I remembered there was no music on this computer. So my iPod is completely working there, but there isn't anything I can do with it.
Next, I came back here and browsed around the discussion boards, hoping to find somebody with a similar problem to mine. There seems to be alot of errors concerning iTunes not recognizing the iPod, but none of the solutions I tried worked for me, including changing the drive letter. I get the "iPod Service Error" while trying to restore to factory settings through iPod updater.
Of course, I could transfer all 32GB of music from one computer to another, but the second (working) computer isn't mine and I won't have access to it in a couple months. It would be most convenient if I could get my iPod working on my own computer. Any help would be appreciated, especially from somebody who has solved this problem or know how to solve this problem.
    P.S.
Here are some other minor details that my be important, but I didn't feel they were worth including.
    - My brother has his iPod mini set up on my computer, under a different user login. He gets the same error once in a while, but re-installing iTunes always solves the problem for him. I had him try solving my problem his way, but nothing worked for him either.
    - My computer is an AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3200+, 512MB RAM with Windows XP Pro SP2 installed. My internal hard drive is partitioned, using the letters C, D and H (C being my system files, D used for recovery files and H for my applications and games). My E drive is used as a DVD/CD-ROM Drive, and drives F and G are reserved for virtual drives (none have been running during this entire ordeal). My external hard drive uses the letter I, and I manually set my iPod to use the letter J (I've never used 'J' for anything else before).
    - Yes, I have downloaded and installed the latest versions of iTunes and the iPod software.
    - I'm assuming there is a problem with my computer and not my iPod, since it worked on both other computers I tried. I'm hoping it's as simple as changing a registry file or cleaning out (yet another) temp directory.

Solution to "Software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed"!
I battled this same problem for about 5 hours. Going through re-installations, the "5 R's", all these discussion boards. Nothing worked.
The problem is that iPodService was repeatedly crashing after minute or so. You can verify this by hitting Ctrl-Alt-Delete and noting that iPodService is missing from the process list (sort by image name), or by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting "Manage", then going to Services and checking out the IPodService service - if it gives you the option to "Start", then it's not running.
    Here is what worked.
    1. De-install iTunes and iPod (if you have the updater installed) completely by going to Start --> Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs. Also delete the C:\Program Files\iTunes and c:\Progam Files\iPod\bin directories. (Don't worry, this doesn't affect your saved music files.)
    2. Log in as an Administrator
    3. Go into the registry (note this is dangerous - you should be careful) and remove the iPod entries that the uninstaller misses.
3.1 Go to Start menu --> Run.
    3.2 Type in "regedit".
    3.3 Go to HKEYCLASSESROOT --> IPodService.iPodManager.
There are two keys here, iPodManager and iPodManager.1. In my case, I did not have permission to view either of these. I think this is the root cause of the problem. I think the installer can't properly update these because it doesn't have permission. So you need to change the permissions:
    3.4 Right-click on IPodService.IPodManager
3.4.1 Select "Permissions..." A warning will appear saying you don't have permission, but that you can change permissions.
3.4.2 On the window that launches, click on "Advanced..."
3.4.3 Click on the "Owner" tab.
3.4.4 Select a valid account (the one you're logged in under) under "Change Owner To".
    3.4.5 Hit "OK".
3.4.6 Back on the main Permissions window, hit Add and add the same account as a valid user.
3.4.6.1 Where it says "Enter the object names to select", type in the account name, e.g. "Smith".
3.4.7 Click on the "Allow" checkboxes for "Full Control" and "Read".
    3.4.8 Hit "OK".
3.5 Repeat procedure for the "iPodManager.1" key.
3.6 Now right-click and delete both of these keys.
I think that's all that's required, but I also searched through the registry and deleted the following keys.
    4. Other keys I deleted:
    4.1 HKEYCLASSESROOT --> IPodManager.IPodManagerUI.1
4.2 HKEYLOCALMACHINE --> SOFTWARE --> Apple Computer Inc. --> iPod
I think that's all I deleted, but I'm not positive. I seached for instances of "ipod" using the Find... and Find Next functions under the Edit menu.
    5. Exit out of the registry editor.
    6. Re-install iTunes. I re-installed iTunes and reconnected the iPod, and everything worked.
I want to repeat that editing the registry can completely mess up your computer if you modify the wrong things, so only do this if you're comfortable, and be extremely careful.
    Hopefully this helps!
Apple support people: assuming this works, please add it to your solutions page, and feel free to reimburse me for spending half of Christmas figuring this out.

  • SOLUTION to "Software required for communicating with the iPod is not insta

Folks, I can not take credit for this.....you should send your checks to MarkinMadison. I've included his post in it's entirety. For me, this was the Holy Grail !!
My only comment is make sure when you are in the registry that you hit the "apply" button to change and add things.
This probably won't solve everyone's problem but it clearly solved mine (and I tried all other "solutions"), as well as Mark's.
Apple: please find out who MarkinMadison is and either cut him a big check or offer him free Ipods for life.

3.6 Now right-click and delete both of these keys.
3.7 If you can't delete, you might need to open up the keys and repeat the procedure on the sub-keys.
    4. Exit out of the registry editor.

I have also posted the same question, earlier today. I purchased two for my children and cannot get the iPod to communicate with the computer. I have the iTunes software on my system, but during the installation process I cannot click the NEXT button, once I plug the iPod cable in. The computer does not detect it. I have tried all 6 USB 2.0 ports. I even removed the Dell Jukebox and MusicMatch programs. I am not a computer savvy person - just a mom who wants to give these to my children for Christmas. This is the first "chat" site I have even registered on. I am so very frustrated. Hopefully, this can be resolved.

  • IPod Not Recognized in iTunes & "Software Required for Commun with iPod. .

Pleasse help! I have about 15 hours invested in this problem, includes 2.5 hours with Apple Technicians, and no help.
I have a new 30G Video iPod that isn't detected in iTunes, although I can see it in exlorer and listed as my G drive. The error message that appears when I start iTunes is,
"The software required for communicating wihtthe iPod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod software."
I have done the "5 R's" about 8 times, and tried other things including changing the drive letter, unintalling Norton, using the msconfig to limit what was running (per the Apple site directions), removed the temp files (per the Apple site directions, "soft reboots" of the iPod (Menu and round button holds), manually running "C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe" from the RUN menu, and running regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\atl.dll (per the Apple Tech) from the RUN menu.
A few other notes, 1) in MSCONFIG, my iPod service does not seem to want to run, it shows as "stopped" 2)I had initally installed the iPodUpdater 2005-10-12, which didn't get me connected, and then later updated to 2005-11-17, which still didn't work. I have also installed from scratch from the apple site. When I try to run the Updater, my error reads "iPod Service Error". I don't even understand what this is supposed to do. Perhpas update the iPod software iteself?
When I connect to the other PC in my home, which was loaded with the same Windows CD's, iTunes fires right away and detects this iPod.
On the PC I am trying to coneect with, I have previously had a successful setup with an iPod mini, but now that doesn't work anymore either.
Apples next step is telling me to uninstall/reinstall Windows. This seems like a pretty drastic, and even more time consuming step . . . one that I'd rather not take unless it is fairly certain to resolve this problem
    ANY SUGGESTIONS????
    Thank you in advance.

  • How to install apex on windows x64 with 10gR2?

    Hello,
today I tried to install the http-server for our 10gR2-database. We are using windows x64.
But I cant find OHS for this release. How can I install apex then?
    Regards,
    Mark

have you tried the installation, or did you just ask in advance?
in the last wekks i did a lof of installation stuff on an x64 system using the old x32 versions. even oracle sw like 10.2.0.3 client etc.
and most oft the stuff was up and running just like on an x32 system.
just keep in mind that the directory structure an x64 is slightly different #
if u install x32 software the default installation path is "C:\Program Files (x86)" and in the registry a speacial key hklm\software\wow6432node
just in case you need to patch.
in my opinion it would be worth to give i a try, but remember not on a productive system.
i'd like to hear about your results
    regards peter
