Software simulation video placed in several slides

Using Captivate 5.5.
I'm recording a software simulation video from screen, but Captivate 5.5 places the video in three slides. How can I put the whole video in one slide only?  Thank you.

Puzzling: Recording mode is set to Demonstration, that is not FMR. If you turn on Full Motion recording the options to choose a mode are dimmed. Correct?
What do you see on the slides: only the slide timeine with a red bar in the axis? Then it is a video, Full Motion Recording. If you see objects on the timeline besides the slide timeline, you did an Automatic Capture. Certainly in 5.5 I wouldn never recommend FMR, the Automatic capture offers not only better quality but is much easier to edit.
Even if it is FMR, the user will not really see that it is over more than one slide. As you can suspect, I never used 5.5 for pure FMR (used Camtasia at that moment, now in 6-7 I use the HD Video Demo). For that reason I cannot answer you why it spread the FMR  over multiple slides, maybe because it is too long?
If you want to do more FMR, to have more or less an acceptable quality, be sure to set the Recording mode to 32-bit.

  • Captivate 5.5 Software simulation video crashes when adding audio recording

I run Windows 7 and Adobe captivate crashes after trying to start a audio recording in software simulation. My simulation is ready and the moment, I click the "record audio" button, the application freezes and I have to go to end the application via Task Manager.
    Solution approaches:
I have started Captivate as administrator and that didn't help.
I have then tried to look up my preferences but didn't find any files which i could identify as preferences.
I have already tried the solution in the Note below (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/759455)
    Help please.
    Thanks,
    A

I am having similar issues, but with the internal speach generator. I have both simulation and demonstration videos. I was able to enter text and convert to Paul's voice without issue, but the minute I tried to add closed captions Captivate totally locked up. And now when I try to do any sort of audio edit, no matter which method of access to the audio (using Audio - Audio Management or Audio - Speech Management or the Add/Edit Audio buttons in the Properties window or using the Closed Caption button in the Slide Notes tab or double click the audio wave file in the Timeline tab) Captivate totally locks up. I was originally able to create 1 file with closed captions but now it also locks up when I try to edit and no other file will let me add CC or use the Audio edit features.
Captivate 5.5, Windows 7; run captivate as admin or not - no difference. Run captivate on my primary or secondary monitor - no difference; run captivate with or without other applications open - no difference.
When I force close using Task Manager I did get a CpDump file that was created. Not sure what to do with that...I submitted a bug but have heard nothing back.
I did follow the steps in the earlier referenced link about deleting the preferences. I also did not find a specific file/folder labeled preferences but my IT group said it was OK to delete the entire final folder in the referenced chain (Captivate 5). Once I did that, I had access to my Closed Captions again and could edit the audio.

  • Captivate Software Simulation Audio Issues

My Captive 8 software simulation slides have been having issues with the audio right after recording. Before I even publish anything, my audio will end up being 2-3 slides ahead of where it should be on the slides. As you may know, when recording a software simulation, captivate automatically generates the slides with each mouse click and should automatically insert the correct audio on each slide. This is not happening for me, and it is very time consuming to fix. I either have to re-record and hope it doesn’t happen again or do a lot of external audio editing.
It’s possible there may not be a resolution and it may be a recognized (or unrecognized) bug in Captivate.  Just need to know whatever the case may be.
My initial gut reaction is to blame this on the latest Captivate 8 update… as I don’t remember experiencing this issue before.  But then again, I also upgraded my mac to OS X and that may be a factor as well.
I've had people suggest to add a blank ending to the audio to restart the audio timer on the next slide, as well as add a transparent highlight box at the end of the slide, but these are ways to fix it when the file is published. Since my issue is happening before publishing, I was hoping someone on this forum may have an answer.

PIP is available in Presenter Video Creator, not in the normal Presenter plug-in. It is not available in Captivate normal projects with extension cptx. You can insert a PIP in the TOC, but have to record it separately.
In Captivate HD Video Demo, extension cpvc (which is also a video creator with a dedicated video editor) you can insert a PIP in the editor. But again you have to create it separately.
The choice is up to you: an easy way to have both recordings together, with very limited editing possibilites in Presenter. Or the Captivate way, more work, better editor.
Afraid to repeat again: we are only talking about pure video now. In the normal Captivate files, that are based on slides, you can insert a video (like a PIP) and distribute it over slides, adapting the slide markers is available  in the Video menu. No webcam recording for the moment in Captivate.

  • Captivate 6, Software Simulation, how to rewind when done

I've been tasked with creating some short Captivate 6 software simulation videos on various computer training topics. No problem doing this! And if the user wants to replay the video (uploaded to a Learning Mgmt. System as a SCORM file, not sure of the details since I don't handle the upload) they click the rewind button on the navigation bar. But...now I'm being asked to do something in Captivate that will automatically rewind the video once it reaches the end. Seems that if it's opened again (the user can see the videos he's watched in his Learning History), it's at the end and the user has click Rewind. The only instr. I can find are if you add a video to a Captivate project then you can auto rewind the video on that slide. However, this is the entire software simulation project that I need to rewind back to the beginning. Can this be done? thx!

Ok, I just tried it in a new project and think there might be a wider problem here.
I copied the first (target) and last slide into a new project. I added a slide in between.
I added a button to the last slide to jump to Slide 2 and a button to jump to Slide 1. When I previewed each, I noticed that the playhead in the playbar jumped to the start of each slide. Hoorah.
I then set about recreating the basics of my original project. The variable names had automatically been copied over, as did only one conditional action (but 3 other actions were not copied over from those slides). All button and text names had automatically changed to the default and no advanced actions were associated with buttons or the TEB.
I deleted the one action that had been copied over and then tried to delete the variables too but the project wouldn't let me, saying these were in use somewhere. (Not as far as I could be see.) ...So I chose to use them again.
I renamed the buttons, text boxes etc., recreated the advanced actions and associated them to buttons/TEB etc. Basically set it up as it was.
I previewed it. From the last slide, jumping to slide 2 went to the start of that slide but (problem) jumping to slide 1 went to the last frame.
I am attaching some screenshots FYI. The interactions hinge around the name of the main character in a story (her name is Lani). By clicking enter, the default name stays and slide 2 begins. Otherwise the user can change this name (in the TEB) and then they have to choose gender (boy or girl button). After that, slide 2 starts. So there are three actions: NameChange2 (conditional), Clicking_BoyButton (standard) and Clicking_GirlButton (standard). You can recreate something like it if your interest extends that far!
Unless there is a problem with Cp7, perhaps some form of corruption was copied across between the projects (with the variables that I couldn't delete).
    Thanks again!

  • Phantom Lines in CP (6.1.0.319) Software Simulations

Does anyone else have a problem with phantom lines showing up in their published CP software simulation slides?
They don't display in my previewed copy, but do in the published SWF... and only in my software simulations, not in non-recorded slides.
To see what I'm referring to, here are two screen shots. The first one shows (SWF) the phantom lines and the second one (preview) with without any phantom lines.
    (LINES)
    (NO LINES)
Any suggestions for correcting this problem?

These are usually caused by Captivate compressing the SWF file.  You can try Edit -> Preferences-> Swf Size and Quality, an de-select the compression options.  Then republish.

  • Cannot change slide duration in software simulation

I'm using Captivate 7 for the first time. I had a much older version, but seldom used it.
I have recorded a simple software simulation that should be a piece of cake to edit and produce, but have come across a problem I don't know how to solve. The simulation includes an item on screen being clicked, then dragged and dropped into a new location. I cannot edit the duration of the slide that shows the drag-and-drop motion. It has a duration of 6.5 seconds, which is painfully and unrealistically slow and there is no way I can find to shorten it.
I can't drag the end of the slide on the timeline, right-clicking hasn't produced anything promising in pop-up menus, and the Properties panel has a Time field, but when I select the 6.5 seconds and change it, it just reverts to 6.5 seconds immediately afterward.
I recall this sort of thing being very simple in previous versions of Captivate. Not anymore, I guess...
    Thanks,
    - Jennifer

Thanks, guys! Those replies led me to try something that actually worked. It did record as a video demo (the red strike-through line) as Varun Kalra suggested. I discovered that I can click the end of the timeline for that slide (where the word END displays), then use the left arrow on my keyboard to decrease the duration of the slide.
That probably wouldn't work if the entire animation was too slow, but in this case, just the very end was too slow.
    Thanks much!

  • Embedding software simulation into existing slide

I am attempting to embed a software simulation recording into a slide. I saved it as an HTML file but for some reason when I embed it it won't play. Can someone please help me? I am new to Captivate 8 and I need some help!!!

Software simulations created in Captivate are NOT going to consist of only an HTML file.  Was the previous project published for SWF or HTML5?
And another thing...your idea of embedding Cp published content inside another Cp project is a BAD idea from the start.  You are likely to encounter several issues due to Captivate NOT being designed to work this way.

  • Should I insert a .cpvc slide or an .mp4 to show a software simulation?

I recorded a software simulation using Captivate 8.  Most of the project is made up of individual slides, except in 2 sections that demonstrate how the screen moves when you swipe on a touch screen.  To capture the swipes, I recorded a new video demo in Captivate.  When this occurs, it creates a .cpvc file which you can then edit.
Should I insert the .cpvc slide directly into my .cptx project or publish it to an .mp4 first and then insert that video?  What are the pros / cons of each method?
I've tried each and have had undesirable results using both methods.  When I inserted the .cpvc file, the published project shows a spinning wheel (as if the video is loading) when the project advances to that slide (although the rest of the transition is smooth).  When I inserted the .mp4 file, the transition is not smooth - the screen goes blank immediately before the .mp4 video begins.
It seems as though using the .cvpc slide is better although the loading / spinning wheel is not desirable in the project.  How can I eliminate this from happening?  Any advice would be appreciated!

I had both an iMac and a MBP years ago - I found that I used them about 50-50%. Inside the house, I'd do what needed doing on a large-screen on the iMac and then, at night, I'd web surf from the den or the bedroom. I liked the large screen on the iMac and the portability of the MBP.
But you introduce two new factors - you already have an external monitor (which, to me, favors the MBP) and you're going to be getting an iPad (which favors the iMac). With the external monitor, you'll have a large screen to work with. With the iPad you'll have portability for web surfing, etc.
I would go with the iMac and the iPad. Even though I'm now down to just a MBP with a 27" external monitor, I don't have an iPad - and that introduces a wholly new part to the equation. Previously, I had to have a MBP only (with no external monitor) because I lived in a nursing home. Now that I'm in my apartment, I use my MBP with external display probably 85-90% of the time and the MBP on the couch or in the bedroom about 10-15% of the time. To be honest, I'll seriously be looking at the 2013 Mac Pros and just use the MBP around the apartment and around town. I'm not planning on getting an iPad, so I'll still need the portability.
Those are just my thoughts and ramblings - if you're going to get an iPad, get an iMac.

  • Captivate 6 Hangs while recording video demo and software simulation

I am running captivate 6 on windows 7 SP1 64 bit operating system. Captivate 6 hangs whenever I tried to record video demo or software simulation. I am running captivate 6 as an administrator.

    Hi Peekay,
Thank you for contacting Adobe Support.
Please use the following steps and let us know if it solves the issue:
    1) Try recreate preferences for Adobe Captivate (For this close captivate and navigate to the location C:\Users\your account name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Captivate and rename the captivate folder)
    2) Try creating a new Admin user account on your system and then try the simulation.
    Thanks and Regards

  • Best Practice - Software Simulation Projects

    Hello,
I'm beginning a new software simulation project where I will need to switch back and forth between demonstration mode and training mode.    The talent will explain and demonstrate the software, then ask the learner to click or type to get to the next step.   What is the best way to capture the screenshots and integrate them as needed?

Thanks, that's exactly what I was thinking.   My concern is that it's a pretty long simulation -- about 1.5 hours on video currently.  I don't want to run into problems with the file being too large.  Right now I have 229 slides in the training mode.  I started trying to capture all three modes, but I had to stop and start several times, and it's difficult to keep track of all the separate files.   I think I will start over, but chunk recordings into segments, so I can deal with fewer slides at a time.   I understand that I can link these separate files with a click box.   Is that correct?

  • Audio/Video skipping during certain slides

    Hi All,
I have been working on a screen simulation and until yesterday everything played back smoothly in the preview and also published.  Yesterday I made a couple of minor edits (replaced the audio on one slide (from Audacity), added a couple text captions, changed the font for several captions) and I started noticing skipping in the audio and video on a few slides (this happens in both preview and published). I have the filed saved in My Documents (not a network drive).  I have two versions (one with no skipping from 2 days ago (A) and one from yesterday with the skipping (B)), and have be playing with both trying to find the root cause.
On version A I tried to recreate the changes I made to B, pausing to watch after every change to find the cause.  It ended up being text captions I added to the bottom of half of the slides (simple text and says "Questions?  Contact ....").  Without this text the project plays fine.  Because verion B is more updated I figured if I just removed this text it would also get rid of the skipping.  However, this did not work. Has anyone else had any problems with audio and video skipping (almost like a scratched CD) throughout projects?  This project is not large (35 slides) and not overly advanced (software simulation) in Captivate 5 on Windows 7.  Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

This may not relate to your issue since you said it also skips occationally, but still worth looking at...

In general, before going back to tape or to an iDVD project, I always extract all the audio as my final step.

  • How to Create Robust Software Simulation

    Hi all,
I'm a newbie to Captivate but I've created software
simulations in the past with Flash, Dreamweaver and
    (prehistorically) Demoshield.
I need to build a simulation with several options on a single
screen. To give a simple example:
Click Box 1 - Adds a checkmark to one checkbox in a list of
    items.
Click Box 2 - Adds a checkmark to another checkbox in a list
    of items.
Click Box 3 - placed on a Submit Button - Advances to another
page in the application --BUT only if both checkboxes are already
    checked.
In other tools I've used, I could define mutiple actions for
the Click Box (or similar component). For example, I would
show/hide the checkmark in the checkboxes. And I would advance to
the next screen when the Submit button is clicked, BUT only after
testing to verify both checkboxes are checked.
Given the options for Click Boxes in Captivate, the only way
I can figure to accomplish this would be to advance to new slides
on every click, with branching, such as
Click Box 1 - Advances to a new slide where the checkmark is
shown on the checkbox for item 1 but not Item 2. Item 2 still has
the Click Box available (waiting for the user's click).
Click Box 2 - Branches to a different slide where the
checkmark is shown on Item 2 and Item 1 still has the Click Box
    available.
Click Box 3 - Placed on the Submit Button - Displays a
message prompting the user to check the items before proceeding.
(The Submit button will only 'work' to advance in the simulated
application on a slide further down the line where both check boxes
    have been checked.)
All of this is tedious to write out, nevermind create. Am I
missing something? Is there a better way to do this in Captivate,
or should I consider using Flash for this part of the project and
    importing it?
All advice welcome. Thanks very much.
    - Corbin

    Hi Corbin
Looks like you have it mapped out correctly. If you are only
using Captivate, that is. I suppose you might be able to concoct
something in Flash that might work for it. Assuming you have Flash
available and are comfortable using it. At the moment, it's a bit
out of my reach, but I plan on fixing that as soon as I'm able.
Something else to consider is submitting an enhancement
request that asks for something like this. You may do this by
    clicking
    here.
Hmmm, in thinking about this, I'm wondering if you could
achieve this effect using a Multiple Choice question slide. If you
selected Multiple Responses as the type of answer, that would
provide Click boxes. And if you have Captivate 3, you can even
change the buttons to the look you desire. Might be worth trying.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Software Simulation Issue

Got a weird one on a  colleague's system. When she records a software simulation or a video demo, the file saves as a single slide. The settings are as seen below for recording:
All other settings are at the default parameters. Any ideas as to why she's getting a single slide output?

Hey, Lieve!   I know it was a software simulation - we set it up, opened up the recording window, rechecked the settings, recorded - and came up with this. I use the video demo settings quite a bit - the timeline on this only shows a default 3 second slide, not a full video recording.

  • Can I record audio and spread it across several slides

I am having trouble recording audio at the same time I am
recording a software simulation. Must be like the chewing gum and
walking thing! I would like to record a few slides at a time and
then add the audio. I select Audio and record, but it only records
on the first slide...or whichever slide it happens to be on. I
thought I saw somewhere that I could choose to spread the audio
file across several slides if I choose. Can anyone tell me if this
is possible and how to do that?

    Hi deidrelynn
After you make that long voiceover, have you tried clicking
Audio > Edit Timing... and adjusting the split bars where you
want the audio to break? If not, perhaps that's worth a shot.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Software simulation clicks too loud

In a software simulation - I find the click sounds too loud - anyone have any idea on how to lower the volume of them? Can this be done after the video has been created?

The problem exists when I publish the project as well.  When I checked the raw slide the problem is starting there.  I have attached a picture of the raw slide.  It is as if Captivate 7 does not recognise the dimensions of my screen.  I had thought that it might be because my screen resolution is set to landscape mode but I did try changing the monitor to the old style narrower monitors and it made no difference
