Software Stops Recognizing Mouse Clicks
My Mac Pro has been failing to recognize clicks from my mouse. The cursor will move over the screen as I move the mouse, but when I click on an icon, nothing happens. For example when I click on a folder to open it, nothing happens. This problem occurs both with an Apple wireless mouse (mighty mouse) or with a standard Apple USB mouse. I'm careful to make sure that only one mouse is connected to the mac at a time. This problem occurs in the finder as well as in any application that is open. I have called Apple about this, but they were unable to help.
Any thoughts as to what is going on.
Thanks
Harold Amsbaugh
I managed to fix it ... so far!
Same thing happened to me, iMac running Snow Leopard. I was running VM Fusion with Windows 7. I suspended Windows 7 and quit VM Fusion. Then I inserted a DVD disk and Toast 6.1 started - and I found I could not drop files onto Toast to burn them, and generally as above.
Oddly my Bluetooth magic trackpad continued to work, moving the pointer and responding to clicks.
I restarted, resetting the PRAM (hold cmd-option-p-r while computer restarts twice) - no difference.
I then restarted from an old installation disk and ran Permissions repair from it.
Restarted again - it seems to be fixed.
To make sure, I then ran Onyx, restarted agian. However, it has lost my desktop picture and finder settings. This may have been from resetting the PRAM. So I've removed all non-essential startup items and will reinstall gradually, and also remove and reinstall VM Ware Fusion.
Thanks to all for warnings that tedious disk wipes and reinstalls etc would not work. Saved a load of time.

Mac Mini intermittent problem recognizing mouse clicks
I was a first-day Lion upgrader a couple of weeks ago, and installed a BT magic trackpad at the same time due to the increased use of gestures in OS X.
The upgrade and trackpad all appeared to be working flawlessly until a few days ago when, for no apparent reason, my Mac stopped recognizing mouse clicks or trackpad gestures. For instance, I'd have a Safari window open and I'd want to move forward or backward but the arrows didn't react to my mouse clicks. I could also not close the window by clicking the red "go away" button. I tried to do the same things using the track pad with the same lack of results.
Or I would be scrolling up or down with my mouse's scroll wheel or by gestures on the track pad, and the scrolling wouls stop. No amount of cursor movement would activate the scrolling.
I have tried shutting down and restarting, I have repaired permissions, I have sat patiently hoping that the Mac would "wake up" to the fact that the mouse was trying to click somehere meaningful.
Here's the setup:
A USB keyboard, a USB mouse, and an Apple BT trackpad.
I am posting this in the Mini forum rather than Lion becuase this behavior also occurs when I boot into my old Snow Leo partition.
I'm open to suggestions from finesse to brute force.Based on your brief description, I believe that you do have a defective unit. Cinema 4d Lite not recognizing mouse clicks?
Hello everyone. I've been working on a project in After Effects CC and was reading about the integration of Maxon Cinema 4d Lite. I wanted to try to make my 2D diamond into a 3D model and it seemed the perfect application to do so. Unfortunately, whenever I open the program (I've tried through File - New - Maxon Cinema File...and Layer - New - Maxon Cinema File... and even once a file is technically created, I've tried going to "edit original". I've also tried to export something else as a Maxon Cinema file and then importing it to see if it would work), it doesn't work.
Basically, since try #1 the program doesn't seem to be recognizing my mouse clicks. As soon as I click on a menu it goes away. I can hold down the mouse button, but then I can't choose anything on the menu. I've done all the updates on all software, restarted, shut down, cleaned cache, etc. etc. There was one thing that worked, but it only worked for a mouse click at a time! I found that if I found the application file within my program files (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CC\Support Files\Plug-ins\MAXON CINEWARE AE\(CINEWARE Support)\lite)....if I have Cinema 4d open, and I double click on the .exe file like I'm trying to launch the program, then the program will recognize one mouse click. But if I try to do anything else, it doesn't respond. I could do this all day and night to get my project done but there's GOT to be an easier way!
If anyone has any suggestions, I would gladly give them a try!
Oh, and I'm on a Windows 8.1 64bit computer. If there are any details I didn't include that would be helpful, please let me know. Thank you!Thank you Mylenium. I wasn't sure what details to provide, but I'll do my best to cover everything you asked about.
As far as the computer, my PC is running Windows 8.1 Pro (64-bit). The hardware is as follows:
Processor: AMD FX8120 (8-core, 3.10GHz)
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX550 Ti
Input Device: Wacom Intuos3 Tablet (using provided mouse, not pen while using C4D)
Memory: 16 GB usable (have 32 installed but haven't spent the time to figure out how to get it all to work with Windows 8)
Screen Resolution: on Monitor #1 (HDMI) and Monitor #2 (Analog) it is set to the recommended 1920 x 1080
I managed to be able to get in to the Preferences within C4d somehow and these are the things I thought might be pertinent:
OpenGL settings: it IS turned ON (Linear, Anti-Alias = 4, Max transparency = 2, Max Lights = 8, Max Shadows = 2, and Use Shader Cache is checked)
Memory settings: the cache is defaulted to the C drive. I set my cache in AE to the B drive, which I would prefer but I C4d won't let me change this at the moment)
Input Devices: PSR Cursor = False, Tool Cursor = true, Mouse Move Activation = True, Graphics Tablet = False, Hi-Res Tablet = True, Open Commander Dialog on Mouse Position = True
I'm thinking the fact that the Graphics tablet is unchecked in C4d might be the issue? I can try to change it with the trick I originally mentioned, but let me know if there is anything else you see that you think might help. Did I miss anything? I really appreciate it! Thank you. -
JOptionPane's message dialog over JDialog not recognizing mouse click
I have a JOptionPane's message dialog like JOptionPane.showMessageDialog() which comes over a JDialog. When I try to click the OK button of this message dialog, nothing is happening. But, Enter key and Escape keys are working on it.
Can any one give a solution?Hi,
here are the steps how it goes.
Step 1:
private void generateMessageDialog(
String message,
int messageType,
String messageTypeText,
Component parentFrame)
JOptionPane optionPane = new JOptionPane();
optionPane.setMessage(message);
optionPane.setMessageType(messageType);
JDialog dialog = optionPane.createDialog(parentFrame,
messageTypeText);
dialog.show();
}If an exception occurs while connecting to my server, this method will be called to generate an error dialog.
I have another thread which monitors the connection to server every 2500 ms. If the connection is lost, this thread will automatically generates a logon dialog. This dialog is a custom dialog that contains login fields.
Step 2:
public void run()
int previousState = -1;
while(previousState != CErrorCodes.SESSION_INVALID && previousState != CErrorCodes.NO_CONNECTION_TO_SERVER)
int currentState = isConnected();
// Check if a logoff action is pending
if (currentState == CErrorCodes.REQUEST_SUCCEEDED)
if (getClientController().isLogOffPending())
break;
previousState = currentState;
try
sleep(2500);
catch (InterruptedException e)
break;
// generate the logon dialog
getClientController().getLogOnDialog();
}If step 2 is executed before step 1, then the dialog generated by step 1 will come over the logon dialog generated by step 2. In this case, the ok button of the dialog generated in step 1 will not recognize mouse click. but enter or escape works. Both the dialogs are modal.
Please let me know if you need furthur info. I look forward for your rep.

MBA Mouse clicks not registering?
I've got a weird one with my son's MBA (2008), running Mountain Lion. It's not recognizing mouse clicks from either trackpad or external Magic Mouse. This is happening from boot- normal boot, safe boot and booting into tools menu.
He was playing minecraft when it went out and nothing I've tried since has got it back- basically lots of reboots and reseting NVRAM and SMC.
I don't have a wired USB mouse to test that with at home, and I don't have an external USB drive with enough space to create a mountain lion rescue disk at them moment- at least not one I'm milling to mess with (backup drives). I'll pick up an 8GB thumb drive later and give that a try however.
Any thoughts appreciated- likely a trip to the genius bar, but that's best avoided- closest one is an hour away.This is kind of a dirty rotten problem. Your submenus are inside the main menu right? So when you click on a submenu item (i.e. menu1A), you are also clicking on the main menu (menu1). Technically both click events fire (menu1a is first, menu1 is second). A better way to think about it is: If you are doing construction on your bathroom you are doing construction on your house since the bathroom is in your house. Confusing, right?
To fix this, you want to "cancel" the click event for menu1 if you click on one of the sub menu items. Add this line into each of your sub menu functions:
e.stopImmediatePropagation();
So one of your functions would look like this:
function onClick1A(e:MouseEvent):void {
e.stopImmediatePropagation();
SWFAddress.setValue("cycling/amgen2010/"); -
Mouse clicks not recognized?
I have a 20" iMac w/ the most recent updates. In the past couple of days I have a problem with mouse clicks not being recognized. It seems to happen when I begin to fill in a text field either in Safari or the Finder (like trying to enter username/password, to authenticate in the finder, etc) The wierd thing is that this only happens on one of the two user accounts on this computer. I have also created a new user account and it is fine. I've looked for applications that are different, but can't find any. I have repaired permissions and repaired the disk through disk utility.
I am at the end of my rope! Please help!I somehow managed to fix it, for now. I think I ended up resetting the PRAM. I gave up trying software solutions and unplugged everything, including the iMac's power cable, and cleaned up the mess of cables behind my desk because I needed some time to think. After starting up the computer, everything seems to be fine. If the problem comes back, I'll post here again. Thanks for the suggestion!

Mouse Click Suddenly STOPS working... on all mice
I had a situation today I've never seen before. I selected an item in a folder in the finder to drag and drop, but I couldn't let go. My mouse would not receive a single click/left click. I thought it might be the mouse so I switched mice to an Apple mouse and it wasn't working either. A RIGHT click worked with both mice, but the system stopped recognizing and registering single clicks. I had to reboot to get back control of my system and mice.
Apple Mouse was plugged directly into the front of my G5.
I just updated to 10.5.3 when it came out but I hadn't seen this problem till just now...
Jeff
Message was edited by: Jefferis PetersonI have a similar problem with 2 Mac Minis running 10.5.3. Prior to the update the mouse behaved fine, but now every so often mouse clicks are not registered. On any window the mouse click causes the window to loose focus, but nothing really happens. The only way to deal with the computer seems to be to try to quit all running applications and suddenly the mouse begins to function as normal. Any suggestions for a fix?

Mouse Clicks stop working randomly
So far I have noticed several times on my Quad Core 27 inch imac that the mouse clicks stop working. This is with two different mice, plugged in together, so I know it's not mouse or driver related. It happens to both of them whenever it does happen.
The only correlation I can make is that it usually happens when I am on a website. I might even have noticed a correlation with "flash based" modules and components on websites, but this could be speculation at this point.
Apple, I love you, but having to hard restart my $2000 computer because the mouse is inoperable is unacceptable. Figure this out. There is no excuse for this. PC's don't do this. I've never had a computer do this in my entire life and words cannot describe how frustrating it is, especially when you are in the middle of trying to get some work done...
-MattTry hitting the escape key on the keyboard (ESC). I've noticed that some property sheets, dialogs, and context menus can get 'lost' if you change focus to another program intentionally or accidentally, or if an application 'steals focus' (fairly rare in OS X). You may have to Command + Tab between applications to find where things are 'hung up'. Flash seems especially bad about hanging after a right click tries to call up a context menu.

IMac mid 2010 not responding to mouse clicks for mac software
I have a mid 2010 iMac 16 gb ram running 10.10.2. My problem started a wk ago when the iMac wouldn't respond to the track pad's click. I did change the trackpad which did not help. I also noted that this behavior was mostly w/ Mac software (with the obvious exception of safari.) I can not retrieve email w/ the mail.app. Can not use pages to finish work that needs done. I can open programs but once opened can't navigate. I can scroll but mouse clicks either B/T or USB fail. I have restarted in SAFE mode - no joy - I ran disk warrior - told me all was just fine. I rest the SMC nothing.
My hobby is photography and I use (and have been using) Photoshop 2014 (PS), Lightroom-5 (LR_5) w/o problemsI've pasted a report from Etrecheck (nice - helpful app).

About a month ago Firefox would stop responding to the clicks of my mouse after a click or two. Minimizing the page and reopening, or clicking off to another window and back, sometimes gives me another click or two but it always freezes again. I'm on an iMac G5 PPC (from around 2005) desktop running OS 10.4.11. I have a Logitech mouse and loaded a newer driver, and upgraded to Firefox 3.6.12 but the problem persists. I also tried running in Safe Mode but this did not fix the problem, and tried both the original Mac mouse and my Wacom tablet but neither fixes the problem.
Same problem FF3.6.13 WinXP. I had this before but it went away. Upgraded from Firebug 1.6.1 to 1.6.2 tonight and the problem returned; not sure if that's coincidence.
Weird thing is, it's not just that Firefox doesn't respond to the mouse clicks. The click goes right through Firefox to whatever's underneath. However, only the top FF window is affected. If I have two FF windows open, alt-tab into window A, then into window B (both maximised), then when window B stops responding the clicks are picked up by window A.
With window B not responding but over window A, if I click where window A has a SELECT, window A receives the mouse event and the OPTIONS appear over window B.
Only alt-tabbing to another non-Firefox window fixes the problem, and only temporarily. -
Hello
Simple problem - don,t know how to solve it.
With Premiere CC when I try to do a selection (click... drag... release the click) very often it stop way before the end of the move I'm swinging the Magic Mouse. I taught that the mouse clicking was defective and went to get a new Magic Mouse after lots of frustration. Today, I have an edit to do it it does the SAME thing !!
I was like ????#$%?&*(???
Opened all the lights and taught I've trow the new mouse to the garbage and was using the defective mouse again... no !! - ??
Actually, the bran new mouse is doing the same thing. What I understand after investigating on the motion and watching carefully my fingers !! - is that when I click I have to keep my finger at the EXACT same place on the mouse... drag and release and it's fine. If I click by pushing on the mouse and my finder is moving of a 1/32th of a millimeter, it will release and my selection will be to redo. You can understand my frustration ! - 75$ later... same problem, but I know that if I click with about 5 pounds of pressure and trying to pass my finger through the plastic of the mouse, it you stay steady and make it !
The problem is that scrolling is enable while clicking and it bugs.
How to disable it ??
Simple question - can't find the answer !Helllooo !?
sorry but the Magic Mouse is just useless with the new Adobe Premiere CC and since I'm not the only one but can't find answer this is really disappointing. This mouse is just fantastic and now I have to swap from a USB mouse to the Magic Mouse every times I do some editing. My USB mouse if hurting my hand somehow and I want to got back to the Magic Mouse asap. Please - for sure there is a simple solution !
Thanks !! -
I do not know why the notebook stopped recognizing the external mouse.
I just found out that if I restart the notebook and plug in the mouse it will work flawless for a few minutes, but then something recognizes it and it stops working. I am really fed up with Mac. It is always something. Safari quits unexpectedly everyother day and asks me to repert the problem, which never goes through. Safari's beachball also spins uncontrolably for hours until I press the button to force quit. It never allows me to collaborate my email with MAIL, and anytime I want to send an email it goes to an email that claims no valid password when that is clearly not the problem. I am a proud purchaser of 3 Iphones, Ipad, Ipod nano, and a macbook pro, but I am getting sick to my stomach with this nonsense. I have wasted a whole day! When I asked a question last time it asked for money! Itunes has taken back hundreds of dollars worth of songs that I have purchased, and summoned me for more money in order for me to keep them! I can't get anything done with this mac! Where is the customer support!? Counter productive, and I will be voicing my opinion loudly.

Hi everyone,
Suddenly, for no discernible reason, mouse-clicking stops working. The cursor moves around on the screen, but clicking produces no results. This has happened multiple times [in Safari 3.0.4, iCal 3.0, iTunes 7.4.2; Photoshop CS2 (v 9.0.2)]. Restarting is the only solution I've found.
I use a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse combo. Thinking the Logitech driver might be the culprit, I swapped in the original keyboard and mouse that came with the computer. Same results: at times, clicking the cursor does nothing.
Any ideas?I experienced this issue as well.
The only patch I am aware of is the following:
- Press the OPTION key, 5 times in a row (this will trigger an option in the Universal Access pane of the System Preferences that allows you to use your keyboard as a mouse). You'll hear a sound warning.
- Press the OPTION key, 5 times in a row AGAIN to revert to the previous status.
Your mouse should now be able to click again. -
Mouse clicks and keyboard strokes very loud in software simulation, but voice is low. I am using Captivate 7
Indeed, I would increase the volume of the voice-over. There is a keystroke sound effect within the C:/Program Files/Adobe/Captivate 7/Gallery/Sound Effects folder, but I'm not sure if that one is directly related to the sound effect used by default.

Mouse clicks occasionally stop working
I am currently deploying a Java Swing application, and sometimes the end-user encounters an unusual problem whereby they open the application and mouse clicks have no effect. The mouse movement is still tracked fine, as buttons and menus get highlighted as expected when the mouse passes over them. I searched for information about this problem, and learned that a work-around is to click the middle mouse button. This does indeed restore the mouse click behaviour and all continues to work fine after that.
So then I thought I might simulate a middle-button mouse click during my application start-up, in the hope of remedying the problem before any end-user actually sees it. The result is that instead of remedying the problem, I actually cause it to happen every time! The application gets into a state whereby mouse clicks are ignored, and clicking the middle-mouse button restores the mouse click behaviour.
Has anyone else experienced this problem, and know of a way to prevent end-users from experiencing this problem? Here's some example code that demonstrates the behaviour:
import java.awt.Robot;
import java.awt.event.InputEvent;
import javax.swing.JButton;
import javax.swing.JFrame;
public class Main
public static void main(String[] args)
JFrame frame = new JFrame();
frame.getContentPane().add(new JButton("Click Me"));
frame.pack();
frame.setLocationRelativeTo(null);
try
// Simulate a middle-button mouse click
Robot robot = new Robot();
robot.mousePress(InputEvent.BUTTON2_MASK);
catch (Exception e)
e.printStackTrace();
frame.setVisible(true);
}Note I'm using Java 1.6.0_07. Any help with this would be much appreciated,
Paul.import java.awt.Robot;
import java.awt.event.InputEvent;
import javax.swing.JButton;
import javax.swing.JFrame;
public class Main
public static void main(String[] args)
JFrame frame = new JFrame();
frame.getContentPane().add(new JButton("Click Me"));
frame.pack();
frame.setLocationRelativeTo(null);
