Software switching a usb port on and off

Hi,
I write here because I hope somebody will be able to help.
I have a simple little lamp that draws its power from a usb port.
I'd like to know there is a way to turn the light on and off via software.
Meaning I would have a script that toggle the power on the usb port on which the lamp is plugged, switching the light on and off.
This way I could turn it on and off remotely.
Does anybody here has an idea on how this can be done?
Thanks.

Hi,
as far as I know USB ports (I have some experience with USB 1.1) there is no way. But I might be wrong!

    Hi Auracles1,
Here's a pretty discussion regarding wireless printing with this device and a Mac.

I have a similar OfficeJet and it was a multi-step process. (1) Install printer drivers on the machine, (2) Add the printer queue in print & fax, (3) Run the "setup wizard" from the disc for wireless printing.

  • TX2000 USB Ports, Digitizer and Webcam not working (several people have save problem)

OK folks this is an old problem that was posted on the old TX/TM board:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/TX-TM-Series-Notebooks-Reply/tx2000-usb-ports-digitizer-webcam-all-not-...
Several of us have had these ports/hardware fail.
****IT IS NOT A BLACK SCREEN FAILURE******
In my case, the motherboard has very low hours after replacement, full system reinstall, all drivers up to date.  If you take the time to read all three pages, you will see that many of us have tried everything that anyone suggested.  Most of us still believe that this is a software issue as opposed to a hardware issue.
Not much hope for a soulution, but thought I would try this board since the TX/TM board is now reply only and probably has a very low visit rate.

I also am not able to use the pen and touch features after doing a recovery manager to factory spec, everything else is good but like the others when trying to open Tablet Properties it gives the message a supported  tablet was not found on the system, also after updating the digitizer from hp the version does not change it's still 6.1.6002.18005 when it's supposed to be 5.05-5_HP5 Rev.A.
I've unblocked the download in properties ran it as administrator, uninstalled the old driver, my USB works my Quick launch buttons work, the screen rotates, the bios is updated. ran HP Update it finds two updates -a HP update software utility and a critical update HP Photosmart and then nothing else when there are many many more at the software and driver page for the TX2000
Is HP being silent due to the class action lawsuit? Was that a perk that hp got for settling, that they no longer have to address any issue with this Tx2000 series?
As so many have wrote before...... NEVER AGAIN HP!

You do have iTunes 10.7 or later on the computer, right?
    See:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    I would start with
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    or
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
Run this to help if it identifies the cause
iTunes for Windows: Device Sync Tests
Have you tried on another computer to help determine if you have a computer or iPod problem?

  • March 2013 crash but now I can't open my calender at all, despite switching my iPad 2 on and off. HELP!

As many of you have found March 2013 keeps crashing, but now after trying to view March 2013 in month mode I can no longer open up my Calender at all! It's just a blank screen. Help please!
I've tried switching it on and off and changing the settings but no joy. I'm really stuck without my Calender.

Thank you so much for your patient guidance and screen captures.
    You are welcome.
My external hard drive is properly formatted for Aperture, so I am currently copying my Aperture library to it. That will take hours since it is copying 101 GB.
    o.k.
I understand that I need to clean some space on my internal hard drive and reformat the Aperture library to get back in operation.
You need to upgrade the Aperture library to be used with Aperture 3.5.1.  That will happen automatically, when you first double click the copied lirary to open it in Aperture.
I'll also need to back up my external drive with a new external drive if I make space on my internal drive by removing some photos from there and store them on my current external drive.
What do you use for backup? If you are using TimeMachine it is better to have only the Time Machine backup on the Time Machine drive . In that case would I put the Aperture library and other data on a new drive and keep the old drive for backup.

  • Sound issues; slow response; usb ports unreliable and sd reader not working

The PC is a HP TouchSmart envy about 18 months old. Soon after purchasing I upgraded to Win 8.1.
About three or four months -ago probably after a Win update was installed- I began to have Sound issues (including not able to conect my external powered speakers any more- they used to work brilliantly and initially no sound at all but I went into settings and changed something and every now and again I have to do that again to get the PC speakers to work) ; slow response; usb ports unreliable, sd reader not working- as well as issues with the internet - the modem actually. It is easier to get on to a tablet and use the internet as my PC can be really slow. As well I have uninstalled Chrome and am using Explorer as this seems a little better but I miss Chrome.
I was advised by tech at Hervey Norman that I had to do a complete system restore but in order to do that I would need the recovery discs from HP? Is that correct? How do I do this?
PS I did not make recovery discs when I first purchased the machine. (Very sad!!!)
    Help!!!
    Alfriston

    Hi again Alfriston,
    Thank you for the clarification!
To return your computer's audio back to functional order, I recommend removing the audio driver from the operating system previous to upgrading to Windows 8.1, and installing the driver provided in this link.
If re-installing the driver does not resolve the issue, I suggest following the steps in this document on No Sound from the Speakers (Windows 8).
In regards to the USB ports, I recommend following this resource on Troubleshooting USB Connections (Windows 8), which should help consistently connect your USB devices to your computer.
To prevent your computer from lagging or responding in a slow manner, please follow the step in this document on Resolving Slow System Performance (Windows 8) to help improve the speed and efficiency of the operating system.
To further diagnose the issue with your desktop's SD card reader, I recommend following this resource on Using and Troubleshooting Memory Card Readers (Windows 8).
If your desktop still experiences issues with the audio, USB connections, speed and performance, as well as the SD card reader, I recommend returning your system back to a previous restore point. This can be done by following the steps in this document on Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8).
Should the problem continue, I suggest performing a backup and recovery of your operating system. This can be done by following the steps in this resource on Backing Up Your Files (Windows 8), as well as Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 8). This should return your system back to factory defaults.
If the issue persists, please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

  • Imac usb ports disabled and nothing is connected

iMac 27inch Late 2007 USB Ports Disabled Again!
Has happened before and took forever to fix it. Nothing specific fixed it last time and nothing I know was the direct cause. Each time different OS, different location, different year, different cables etc etc.
Now, reset everything, moved everything, changed everything - still nothing. No USB ports work. iMac still has pop up "USB devices disabled..."
Taking into Apple unless someone can tell me what 10 pages of google hasn't - what a bloody stress and waste of time!

  • USB port issues and unable to reset

I'd personally see a doctor about this... wait, what?    God damn it!

Have just in the last few days noticed an issue where singstar was not recognising my USB microphones and noted also that controllers were not being charged from the dual USB ports on my PS3 SuperSlim. Otherwise the system was operating fine until I tried to reset to defaults that is. Sadly now following taking these steps I can't progress beyond the select the PS button on your wired controller which of course doesnt work because the USB ports have failed.  Seems a bit odd that the system is now bricked with only a fairly innocuous fault. Any suggestions to get me operating again with or without operating USB ports will be gratefully received.

  • USB port unrecognized and malfunction!

I was just casually listening to my Ipod Classic (80GB) when I got the message - "connect to power".
So, naturally I take out my cable and plug it in. It doesn't work and the message that pops up at the bottom of my screen says something along the lines of... "USB port is unrecognizable and has malfunctioned".
Also, my Ipod sustained that message for about 20 minutes while I restarted my computer and manipulated my USB hubs. The suddenly...my Ipod screen was gradually becoming blank. It has remained blank.
(Except for a couple minutes ago when I could faintly see the message "connect to power". Excitedly I pressed the "play/pause" button and it went blank.)
Please help! This Ipod is quite new!!

    Dudes.
    I have an advice.
Try with another USB CABLE and not the one that CAME with the iPod. ( that, if you have a spare one from an older iPod).
I personally think that apple is selling broken USB cables with new ipods.
    Especially Classic ones.

  • Hi, I am using iphone 5 with ios 7.1.1. I am not able to use the landscape mode. I have tried switching the portrait orientation on and off, also tried resetting and restarting the phone but nothing works. Is this a hardware or a software issue. HELP!

And if it is a hardware issue, how much will it cost me to get it fixed? Please help..!

Then as you've tried resetting the phone, the next step is to restore it from the latest backup. If that doesn't work, restore it as new, and if that doesn't work take it to Apple.

  • Loose USB port cage and flickering home/menu/back/search button lighting

I just got this phone today, as I switched over from T-Mobile, immediately I noticed the USB cage that goes around the port to charge the phone is loose and can be shaken quite easily, also when you look at your 4 home touch keys at the bottom, they almost appear holographic because they change brightness, not sure if that's supposed to be that way or not. Trying to decide if I should call for an exchange or not. On top of hearing myself during calls, not so sure about this phone at the moment.....

Thank you SydneyK for your reply.
OP/ If you are having issues with your new device keep in mind you can always exchange your device during its return and exchange period. If you purchased the device directly from Verizon Wireless you have 14 days to decide if you would like to exchange the device.  If your device was purchased through a third party vendor please refer back to them for further information on their exchange policy.

  • USB PORTS DISABLED AND WONT WORK FOR ANYTHING

    MacBook Pro  OS X (10.6.8)
the other day i had plug in a remote helicopter to our computer and came back and same the error message:
"Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled.* To prevent damaging your computer, the USB device drawing too much power has been disabled. Other devices may also have been disabled. When you disconnect the device drawing too much power, your other USB devices will be enabled again"
First I unplugged the helicopter and tried plugging in my phone to charge....NOTHING! so i unplugged it and tried my ipod....NOTHING! maybe the cord? so i switched cords nope same stupid ****. I reset the computer (even doing a SMC reset). nothing works! Nothing shows up in Disk Utility when plugged in either. I've looked for videos, other forum, blogs, articles, plus i can't even use Apple Tech support over the phone cause my plan has expired and Apple loves charge so much for something they could fix real fast!

  • Software to turn iMovie HD on and off "remotely".

Is anyone aware of any software or an Applescript that will start and stop iMovie HD at given times like programming a VCR? I have a program called PopTart that will do this using Toast 6 and only Toast 6 (the author told me he has no plans to update PopTart to work with Toast7 or with iMovie HD).
    Thank you.

I have a Canopus ADC 100 analog to digital bridge that I use to record some TV programs onto my hard drive through iMovie. Once on the HD I edit the DV file in iMovie and then, if I want, i can record it to DVD with iDVD. Occasionally there is a late night program I would like to record and it would be handy if I could "schedule " it. I may have to reinstall Toast 6 on my alternate boot drive and use it with PopTart if there are no are possibilities. Thanks for the reply.
