Software to burn a DVD video

I have movies on my computer : file.mp4, format MPEG4 (copies of my old video tapes)
Which software do I need, to burn these movies on DVDs to read them on a movie DVD reader connected to my TV ?
A. Sourit

I've only made a few home-made DVD movies, but I used iDVD each time. I took the video from my Panasonic camera, manipulated it in iMovie then burned it in iDVD and it plays in our home video player just fine. While this solution may be simple, you probably already have the software (it's part of the iLife suite), and it may be what you need.

Congratulations on the new Mini. Are you saying you tried burning and it does not play, or do you want to burn it only for the computer to be able to play it?

  • After I burn my DVD Video comes up instead of Menu

After I burn my DVD Video comes up instead of Menu.  How do I get rid of this?

Go into the Map mode of your iDVD project and make sure there is nothing listed in the Auto Play bin at the left.
If there is drag it out and try again.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Idvd 6 burned a dvd = video, but no audio

Okay here's my problem. I created a video using Final Cut Pro 3.0, and exported it out of FCP as a FCP movie. I then imported the movie into Idvd 6. (IDVD 6.0.3) I make my menus and preview the project in IDVD6 and it all works. I burn the dvd the 1st time and the audio skips. I tried deleting the encoded assets and then burning. Now there is no sound, but the video works. I've tried using different media DVD-r discs= TDK, Ritek,Verbatim. I've repaired disk permissions, trashed prefs files for both FCP, and IDVD6 no go. I've also created a disc image as some have suggested. However, when I preview the disc image in DVD Player there is only video and no audio. I am really deseperate! I've working at this for almost 2 weeks. Please help if you can. Leon

  • How to burn a DVD-Video out of iMovie without iDVD (pre-installed Lion)?

I am wondering how I could burn a DVD that works on standalone DVD players out of iMovie since iDVD has been banished from Macs with pre-installed OS X 10.7 Lion.
When I try to export iMovie projects to iDVD the machine naturally cannot find the program. How is the workaround instead?
Thx for your help (Mac newbie).

  • How do I correct the error; "PluginCoder error: no pligin DLLs" when attempting to burn a DVD with Premiere Elements 13

I just upgraded to PE 13 - removed PE12 prior to installing PE13 and now I cannot burn a DVD on my Win 7 Pro 64bit PC.  In my first attempt at burning a DVD PE 13 did not see the DVD burner - drive "z:".  I have a WD MyBook 4TB USB HD and had Security configured which created a Virtual CD on the drive.  I disabled the virtual CD and rebooted.  This time PE13 recognized the DVD burner but when trying to burn a DVD I received the No DLLs message and had to cancel the burn.  I tried the burn again and the DVD burner was no longer recognized.
I then removed PE13 and reinstalled it - no errors during the install.  Tried again and same result - no DLLs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your time,

For Premiere Elements user, I would make note that the presets for burn to disc cannot be customized by the user within the program.
    a. The second thread that you pointed rkclarke36 to does talk about resolving this issue by changing the burn to disc frame rate from
24 fps to 30 fps. But, that was for Premiere Pro, not Premiere Elements. In Premiere Pro, can the user really customize an Adobe burn to disc
    preset?
    For Premiere Elements
If the burn to is to DVD disc for DVD-VIDEO, the user is
confined to two frames rate, 25 interlaced frames per second or 29.97 interlaced frames per second. But, he/she cannot change the frame rate
    within the preset.
If the burn to is to DVD disc for AVCHD DVD, the user again meets different presets, but cannot change the frame rate within the preset. For Premiere Elements 13 burn to AVCHD disc, the presets are
    Premiere Elements 13
    H.264 1440 x 1080i NTSC Dolby
    H.264 1440 x 1080i PAL Dolby
    H.264 1440 x 1080p NTSC Dolby
    H.264 1920 x 1080i NTSC Dolby
    H.264 1920 x 1080i PAL Dolby
    H.264 1920 x 1080p NTSC Dolby
Except for the two 1080p presets with frame rate of 23.976 progressive frames per second, the other presets all have a frame rate of 29.97 interlaced frames per second NTSC or 25 interlaced frames per second.
    b. Mark has not yet offered the details of the Timeline content (video and/or stills) being taken to burn to DVD-VIDEO or AVCHD DVD. So, frame size as per your first mentioned link might be an avenue to pursue. I would include that with all my testing of Premiere Elements 4 to 13, I have not gotten this particular dll error
    with any oversized stills.

  • How to Burn a DVD

    Hi there,
how can I burn a DVD video? I have got in a HD directory Video_TS and Audio_TS subdirectories and I have no idea how to make a DVD video with them.
A sub-question would be how to play a DVD-Movie from HD directory, in other words how to play from the two subdirectories mentioned.
    Many thanks for your help.

    Hi ecano,
You should ask this of the iLife/iMovie forum. I could be totally wrong, but it seems that the _TS is analog and you first need to convert to a digital format that iMovie can play nice with.

  • HP dv6263cl DVD Rom unable to burn any dvd

    dear hp/support team mates:
i have purchased HP 6000 series notebook in Oct -07 and i m satisfied with its performance. intially i didn't have any data to burn on the dvd rom. but with passage of time i have data which requires backup on dvd rom. now the problem i m facing is i m unable to write/burn any data on blank dvd's which are available in open market.
i have changed different brands of dvd rw and used multi softwares to burn the dvd. everytime i get the error its dvd fault which is unable to have write on it. now i m not technical person but if proper guidence is transfered then i m able to diagnose the issue.
the error i get is .. The disc in the drive is not writable disc or it is full. Please insert a writable disc in drive.
now waiting for the response from your end.

Can you play a movie dvd? In other words is the dvd drive otherwise operational? If you have never reloaded the operating system after 2.5 years that would be the place to start. After all that time it is very possible the registry or other part of software is corrupted. You also say you have installed multiple disk burning software installations. That can pose a problem. I would ask you to recover it to factory state or better yet install a new clean copy of Windows 7 so we can properly isolate potential hardware issues from software issues.
We are not official HP people by the way just users who volunteer to help.
I am assuming you have Vista but if that is wrong let us know.

  • BURNING ADDITIONAL DVDs

I have coded 14 slide shows and burned individual DVDs which run successfully on ordinary DVD players.  I now want to make more copies in 2 ways:
    1) Burn additional DVDs of each with one per DVD.  Must I recode them again and burn?  Grrrr, if so.
    2) "Bundle" several of the shows onto 1 DVD.  How do I do that?  The Adobe documentation doesn't give a clue.
    Thanks for any ideas.

    Stephen,
Yes, I am a professional and usually work in PrPro. I am working on a similar Project for a client, that begins in the 1860's and goes up until very current times. Though it focuses on on member of the family, the full "tree" is used to set the stage. Right now, we've got over 2000 scanned still images, over 100 3-D animations and motion Assets from Mac-based animators, over 100 separate Video Clips, and maybe 300 Titles. Every still image is separately animated and is over an abstract background to compensate for vertical and square images. The entire Project is scored, and there will be minimal narration. This is done to produce an 8-DVD set, that will be distributed to about 25 surviving family members.
In PrPro, I can work with Sequences (think of these as mini-Projects within a larger Project), and there are 19 at this moment.
Were I working in PrE, I would just have 19 Projects, and would Export/Share each of these to a "Master Project," for assembly and final output. Even with PrPro, I still have a similar step, as I use a separate authoring program, Adobe Encore, to do my output to DVD-Video. There, I assemble the DV-AVI files from my Sequences (the number changes, per the individual DVD that I am working on), add my Menus by hand, and establish the links to the Encore Timelines. PrE does this for you in a semi-automatic way. You would Export/Share as DV-AVI's then Import into that Master Project - I Export to DV-AVI and then Import these as a Timeline in Encore. Same number of steps, though I am using two different programs, while you are using to separate Projects in the same program. The biggest difference is that you only need to pick a Menu Set, set your DVD Markers, and push one button. I have to do the "assembly" by hand and manually link everything together for my navigation. Much more hand-work, but with the benefit of much more power and greater control. However, I am doing 3-D animations that launch, when one chooses a Button, to seamlessly start that Button's Timeline. As I said, a whole lot more work.
I think that you have everything that you need to do your Boy Scout Project. It's probably all sitting in front of you, and you are but a few steps away from getting the job done.
Let's start a new thread, so that others will be able to find and follow along with the assembly of your Projects into a Master. If you could do a little list of the Projects that you have already, and how you would like to assemble them into that Master, I'll be glad to step you though every phase of this Project. To me, the editing is the "fun part," and I'd love to make it so for you. The "work" will just be the Export/Share of those intermediate Projects. That will take some time, but it would for me too. Personally, I find that a good time to jump on my laptop, and hang out here - while the workstation is crunching the Export.
Once we get you started, It should be the same for you. Let's get you though Lesson 1, with that new post and an outline of the Project, and while you're doing the Export/Share, we'll move on to Lesson 2. Piece-o-cake!
When time comes to establish your navigation, we'll likely want a bit of input from others (they are more than welcome at every step, BTW), as I do not use PrE for my authoring, and there are major differences between the authoring function in PrE and Adobe Encore. I'll need some "lessons" here too. Once we have that part behind us, I'll step you though getting ready to Burn multiple DVD-Videos as efficiently as is possible.
In that new post, please give me a rundown of your system. Things like the number of physical burners, and even your available HDD space can determine which path we take. It can be very easy, but I do not want to make suggestions that do not play with your system.
I do not think that you will need my assistance, beyond this forum. If you decide otherwise, I'll be your "safety net." Note: I do not have PrE 8, so I could not open your Project files. Though PrPro can open most PrE Project files, my version, PrPro 2.0, cannot open PrE 8 files - I've already tried this. This would mean that you'd still have to do the Export/Share to DV-AVI and then ship those large files to me on an external HDD, for me to do the final edit. You will still be doing the majority of the "heavy lifting," and the next few steps would be so easy for you.
If you need to get input as to what would be beneficial in that next post, do not hesitate to PM (Personal Message) me through the PM tab in your Profile. I'll get you a list of details. I'd also like to keep the real lessons in the forum for two reasons: remember that authoring in PrE is not my strong suit, and those lessons are likely to help others with similar Projects in the future. If we did it all via PM and e-mail, then others will not benefit, and when we get to authoring in PrE, I will still need to post for help in this forum, so I can get you through that phase.
Good luck, and I'll be looking for that new post,
    Hunt

  • Anyone know what I do when attempting to burn a dvd and the message "authority failed" appears?

Hey guys.  Anyone able to help me out?  Have burned multiple times on my MacBook with the downloaded Burn program.  Just got iMac, downloaded, transfered the files to the right place, it began to work, then "Authority failed, there was a problem authorizing the DVD".  Transfered the same file over to MacBook, was incapable of burning it.  Did a test with a different file/movie I had made, was capable.  Any chance the particular movie I am trying to burn is to large for the Burn program?  Any ideas?  I'm in a bind here with people waiting to see this stuff.

  • Time to burn a DVD?

This may be the wrong forum for this question, but I believe it's Mac specific, and I don't know where else to post it.
Using TiVo transfer (part of Toast 8), I transferred some programs from my TiVo disk to my Mac. I'm now in the process of writing two of these programs to a DVD (~3.12 GB total) . . . but the process is incredibly slow! I estimate that it'll take well over two hours to complete!
Under "disk burning," my System Profiler says "MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-85J." Should it take over two hours to burn a 3-GB DVD-R (NTSC format)?
    Thanks.

You aren't clear as to what type of DVD you are burning, it depends, as the other poster mentioned above.
If you are just burning data files to make a computer DVD data disc, I don't think it should take more than 2 hours, depending on speed, it should be probably around 15-30mins +/-
If you are burning a DVD video disc that will play in a DVD player, then the encoding can take a very long time with high CPU usage during the encoding process. In my older slower computer it may take overnight easily to encode that much video. If I want more than one copy, I usually burn to disc image, so that the second DVD doesn't have to repeat all that encoding again.
Can you see the DVD drive burn activity lights come on during that 2 hours? I expect the acutal burn hasn't even started yet, that the DVD video files are still being created. Doesn't Toast give you some progress feedback or status as to what particular phase it is working on? Any messages about encoding...?

  • I am now getting transcoding errors when I try to burn a DVD. Usually this can be overcome, but my latest project resists burning. Is it possible for a project to be too complicated?

    Suggestions would be welcome!

    Dear ATR
I am using Première Elements 10 on a Mac Pro
I was trying to burn to DVD-VIDEO widescreen, although I tried all the
    options in desperation including folders!
Space required was about 3.7 GB, but instead of filling the space
available, as it didn¹t work, I tried 2.5 GB without success.
I use all Timeline menu markers including red ones to indicate the end
of a movie, as there are several in the project. Scene markers and stop
markers can therefore be close. Where there were red frames around button, I
moved the buttons away from each other as required.
By complicated, I meant that my movies tend to include transitions
throughout movies and stills background music titles - clipart and
dialogue, which I considered might be too much for the system to handle!
Since I posted my query, I have taken a lot of transitions out of the
movie (I usually choose a default transition of ³cross dissolve² between
each video/still in the set-up). This has worked, and subject to re-viewing
the movie, I am hoping that it is the cure and I will reset the defaults
    accordingly.
Thanks for you interest in my problem.
    Best regards,
    TopCat38.
