Software Update Broke All Sound Playback

I just ran software update last night. Today I turn on my Mac and there is no sound from any applications. It's not the volume sliders, they are all fine (and enabled, not grayed out). There is no red light inside my headphone jack. Pretty much everything seems fine, but there is no sound.
How can I roll back these system updates? Or fix the problem? This is really lame...

I just fixed it and here is how I did it.
I went to Applications -> Utilities -> Audio MIDI Setup
Open the Audio Devices window if it didn't open automatically. (Window -> Show Audio Window)
Some application had set my default output of audio to Soundflower (16ch). What I did to fix the issue was to click on Built-in Output, then to click the gear at the bottom of the screen and select:
"Use this device for sound output"
and
"Play alerts and sound effects through this device"
That worked for me! Hope it helps someone else.

Doesn't sound right - if you've unpowered it to restore, and also restored I'd suspect a hardware issue if this gradually develops, perhaps heat related issues.
If under warranty get it looked at/replaced.

Unix command to stop Software updates for all users except admins?

I want to stop App Store and other software updates for all user accounts. Administrator accounts should still be able to do Software Updates.
Is there a terminal command that can do that i can push out through ARD?

Managed preferences are the best bet. You could use Profile Manager or use the mcx command from the command line. I'd strongly suggest browsing over this before delving into MCX though...

Unless you plan to restore it, if all you are doing is updating the firmware then nothing will be erased from your iPod. Even if it was you just have to reload from iTunes or your back up.

If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.
(You may already have a micro USB cable if you have a camera or other digital device)

Software update broke my macbook.

So I was browsing some websites several hours ago on my MacBook Pro, when I recieved a software update notification. I allowed it to do so and let it restart. However, after it rebooted, nothing seemed to work. The finder bar and all my folders would appear, then vanish after a few minutes, and when I tried to open an application or access the internet, they wouldn't pop up. I believe that this problem may have been linked to this software update. Can anyone help me to somehow find a solution for this problem?

Launch Disk Utility. /Applications/Utilities
Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then select the FirstAid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If the startup disk needs repairing follow the instructions here.

CS 3 worked yesterday - got software updates - now all parts merged into 1 uneditable image

Hi. I worked on a logo yesterday. This a.m. I got software updates and did it automatically. I don't know what the updates were but I just did it and then the computer restarted. Now all my parts have been merged into one un-editable un-workable image. They are not separate any more. They are not grouped, not compounded, not locked. I do not know what happened. Any ideas? Thank you for any help you can give.

Try again. I am having a lot of trouble w. the forum trying to get in with my correct user name and password. Too bad there isn't a way that I can delete the connection to my email and start from scratch. Anyway....

Wireless update is only possible with iOS 5 or later.

I am working as IT technician for more than 30 years, but only on MS computers.
I am trying today to give help to a friend, with her MacBook problems.
First problem is that Yahoo! mail new interfaces are not compatible with old Safari version.
But choosing "use old interface" option helps.
However, Yahoo! mail has turned to new interface (probably by a use on another computer), and it is not impossible to use it, as no "click" have effects. Then, it is evene not possible to log out or close a mail, unless closing Safari...
Then, checking the "Software Updates", I got the answer "Your software is up-to-date. You do not need new updates".
But the last update in the list was in 2012
I cannot imagine there were no updates for 3 years
Can you give help about this last question?

Iphone 4 software update leading to sound problem?

I have a iphone 4 and after the software update 7.1, whenever I'm listing to music the slider where you control how loud it is vanishes from the screen and I can't hear anything I've tried turning it on and off that works for 5 minutes then it does it again, this also happens when I'm talking on the phone, or watching netflix. Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches after installing new software.

when I ran it, it tld me I had updates. I let it install the updates. At the ned, it gave me an error messages simply stating "fatal error occured" it did not tell me any more. There was no message telling me what the error was! Now my Blackberry hangs with an hourglass and won't boot. What happened? How do I fix this?

It sounds like something went wrong with whatever update is is that you allowed to run...hopefully you already have a good backup or are synching with a desktop PIM...otherwise, your data on the BB (contacts, calendar, etc.) might be lost. See this KB:

I have created software update group (around 10 updates\patches) and deploy it to 'unknown computers' collection. Ts 'Install software update' step scans through and only installs 2 updates out of 10. I have kept deploy property as 'required' while publishing
on 'unknown computers' and 'install software update' has 'All Software update' selected (other option is mandatory update'). I want to have all the 10 required update to be installed . any idea what should be the settings on 'deploy' prperty for software group
that install all the updates in the group during 'install software update' step? Any pointers will be appreciated

Yes , they need a reboot and reboot is happening automatically. I believe, once reboot is done, other patches should take over with installation. I don't see any information for another updates that are part of same software group. For these 2 succefully
installed updates log has below that indicates they reboot and finish.
