Software Update cannot identify my Epson Scanner

Update software cannot locate software from the App Store for my Epson Scanner when connected to my MacBook Pro.  I updated my mid 2010 MacBook Pro from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion (Ver.10.8.1 latest).  I follow instructions using software update of connecting my Epson Scanner to the computer and selecting update software from the menu.  The response is "no updates available". Tried it many times. Following the same procedure with my MacBook Air that I upgraded from Lion to Mt Lion, the store provided a new driver for the Epson Perfection 1650 on the first try so the scanner works.  I am also having issues with Office 2011 of not opening certain docs and parts of applicaitons on my MacBook Pro, do not know if the 2 issues are related.

I had the same problem.  I ran permissions repair and restarted.  No more bogus notifications.
Then...
Sorry,  the problem came back.  I then went to Apple support and downloaded the Epson Update from there.  For some reason the update was not available fron the usual software update but was downloadable from the Apple Support.  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1398
For the last week -- no more annoying pop-ups asking me to update and then not doing anything.  Hope this works for you, too.

If it has a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) or better CPU, yes. Phone the Apple Store and order a download code for iMovie. If it's a Core Duo Mac, contact the Mac App Store staff and ask for an iLife 11 DVD.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple Website:

  • Trying to re-install itunes error message "the older version of Apple software update cannot be removed" ?

Unable to re-install itunes as error message appears "The Older Version Of Apple Software Update Cannot Be Removed"
Been to control panel and found apple software update but still unable to remove   Help!!

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • An amount of software-updates cannot be installed due to an unexpected error?

After downloading Software-updates, an amount of software-updates cannot be installed due to an unexpected error.
Is there someone who had the same problem and can help me?
Thanks in advance for your support!

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select "/var/log/install.log" from the file list. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, start over and note the time. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.

  • The older version of Apple Software Update Cannot be removed-WinXP

I have followed every step from the support site concerning completely removing iTunes, Quicktime, Bonjour, and Apple Software Update to no avail.
I then went and through the installation of the following tools to clean any remaining elements from my system.
installed and ran Windows Install Clean Up
    Installed and ran  Revo Unistaller
I went to the Apple site and downloaded a fresh copy of iTunes 10.5 and ran the install, all went well until the following message appeared.
The older version of Apple Software Update cannot be removed.
This indicated to me that I must have some lingering components on the system that the installer sees and I cannot find.
I went back through the registry and searched for any entries having to do with Apple, Bonjour, Qwicktime and removed any and all.
Still the same error.  So this is where it sits,
    Any additional suggestions from anyone?

I have done the exact same steps as Drewfromlacenter over the past week.  Also to no avail.  Same message about the older version of Apple Software Update cannot be removed, and it tells me to contact my Technical Support Group.  Who is that anyway??  Any suggestions where we go from here?

  • Software update cannot find installed App's  in sub-folder

    Hi All,
I have same kind of problem - I created folder called "iLife' 11" and moved there all App's which belong to this package. As soon as I did this Software Update cannot find anything. For example Apple released iPhoto' 11 (9.1.1) update and Software Update did not find it until I moved it back to "Applications".
BTW I have same problem with Adobe App's. Adobe update did not see Photoshop which has been moved to sub-folder.
My question is DO I have any chance to put App's to sub-folder and get them automatically updated by Software update? IF so, what should I do?

All sub-folders located in /Applications/ not in /Users/username/Applications. Actually /Users/username/Applications/ is empty on my mac.
What I trying to have is sub-folder (for example called Photo where I will have all applications for working with images (Photoshop, Nikon Scan, SilverFast and so on) in one locations or iLife' 11.
I took this idea from folder "Utilities" I can put App there and it worked and updated without any problems.
As far as I understand this problem (from Unix point of view) is a PATH problems. Software Update cannot find App in the folder which not listed in PATH.
If I create link (allies) for application in /Applications/ folder it will updated.

  • Apple Software Update cannot be removed during install

I have tried updating to the new 64-bit version of iTunes 9.1 several times, and every time it will get all the way to the end and say "The older version of Apple Software Update cannot be removed. Please contact your technical support group." It then says the iTunes installer has been interrupted and did not finish the download. I tried to manually remove the Apple Software Update, but it said "The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it."
What do I do? I've tried just about everything I can think of. I've even tried doing the download without checking the automatic updates option at the beginning of the installation.

First try heading in to your Add/Remove programs control panel and see if you can uninstall Apple Software Update from there.
If you can't uninstall Apple Software Update from there, or it doesn't appear in there, or if you seem to successfully uninstall it from there, but you still get the same message when you try to install iTunes, try the following procedure.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Now run the utility (“Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up”), select any *Apple Software Update* entries in the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, and then click “Remove”.
Now quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?
