Software update cant connect to the internet

I connect to the internet via wifi on my MBP and I can have say firefox connecting to the internet, mail checks fine, itunes store works, but Safari and Mac Software Updater wont connect. Any Ideas?
Ive tried resetting PRAM,
Tried the network diagnostic, but that says its all fine but a rerun of the updater still no connection.
Tried various signal strengths to the modem.
check/verify permissions and Hard disk.

I have had this error returned for months... Not just during the holidays. Dozens of other users are having/have been having the same issue. SU starts just fine, gets to about 25 meg (in my case) and times out, returns the error you quoted. Smaller files usually (but not always) come thru ok. A common thread with all the posts I have read seems to be DSL. On a different thread, it was suggested the modem can get out of synch with the server due to line or modem issues such as forgetting to put filter in all phone jacks.
Anyway, I'm going to give SU another go... It probably won't work...

  • Software Updater- Not connected to the internet

I have recently downgraded from a Cable modem to a wi-fi using Globetroter Connect and the AT&T 3G network. Now when I run Software update - I get a message that I am not connected to the internet - even tho I am running Netscape in the background. (I have tried both running netscape and not runing netscape so that's not the issue) I have browsed through old posts on this topic and can't seem to find help.
    thanks in advance

If other OS X internet dependent items do not work of don't work well
now that you've changed some system settings (or should have) in
order to use a new internet provider and other hardware, you may
have to change system settings. A non-Apple browser can use its
own settings and find an internet connection in your Mac. Other
parts of the system may not find the internet directly if a change
was made to your computer's settings or the hardware attached.
In some cases, a Mac owner may find Safari won't work; FireFox
will; and to the same web pages, the results will differ. Or other
internet dependent items such as certain live widgets can't find
the internet if they rely on other system settings not set correctly.
So, this means there much be some location setting, or some
old proxy, or perhaps a firewall setting or other block; maybe
even one part of the Network settings is correct in general
while another is not. Even improper DNS or other numbers
may be a partial reason for something halfway working.
If you get different results or none at all from native Mac OS X
internet dependent applications or utilities, then the settings
or location, or other network, or system pref setting, etc are in
need of review and some changes need to be tried.
Have you tried other user accounts to see if the system's own
reliance on the internet settings in System Preferences Network
and other basics still work (or don't) thereby narrowing the issue?
The kind of problem you've cited has other parallel causes under
different topics online; I have read about, but not experienced them.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Cant connect to the internet using my wrt54g

i bought the linksys wrt54g yesterday brought it home put in the setup disk and everythin was goin good until it came to step 10 and an error message came up saying: cant connect to the internet please shut off modem and turn it back on so tryed that still didnt work. so i found a thread when i searched this problem that said i had to bridge my westell 6100 modem to the router or somthin like that so i followed those steps and it still doesnt work can som1 help me please!?

Did you try to change the routers Ip address to 192.168.2.1?
I am not sure of that modem and not sure if it has a built in router ot not.  Call your ISP and see if that modem is also a router running DHCP and everything else.

  • ITunes cant connect to the internet to retrive 1.2 iPod update

iTunes says that i need to update my 30GB video to version 1.2 but when i try it says im not connected to the internet, even though i can use the itunes store just fine.
this is the itunes diagnostic of my network connection...

    Active Connection: (none)
    Connected: No
    Online: No
    Using Modem: Yes
    Using LAN: No
    Using Proxy: No
    Firewall Information
    Windows Firewall is off.
    ZoneAlarm Firewall is installed.
Connection attempt to Apple web site was successful.
Connection attempt to iTunes Store was successful.
Secure connection attempt to iTunes Store was successful.

I am having the same exact problem as the author. iTunes Store works fine, although when i try to download the iPod Update v.2 from iTunes, it says:
iTunes could not connect to the iPod software update server because you are not connected to the internet.
I don't understand why this is happening and would like to know why. Is there anyway I can get a direct download of the update some where on the "internets". Thanks for any help.

What exactly is the version of Skype installed on your computer? In Skype go to Help -> About Skype.

    Hello amiraabusheikha,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help in this situation. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice concerning Wi-Fi issues:

  • Firefox cant connect to the internet after a while of being on

    Hi,
I posted this question some time ago and since i didnt get any working solution and I still have this issue I am reposting it now. My problem is simple: I start up my computer and open Firefox. I browse the internet normally. No problem so far. But lets say I go to take a nap or I just stop browsing to do something else on the computer without closing Firefox or whatsoever. After a while I go back to browsing on Firefox (the same window with the same tabs are still open) but now no page will finish loading no matter how long i wait.
So I close Firefox and open it again. Then I get a popup error saying Firefox is still running and that i need to close it. When i close that popup then i get another error saying it was unable to load my profile. I close that and reopen Firefox. Now it loads pages normally again but but only for 1 or 2 minutes and not any more after that. I repeat the whole process and i still get the same results until i restart my computer.
I have checked for any viruses and i have none at all and there is absolutely no problem with my overall connection since no other programs have this problems only Firefox. What can i do?
    Thank you.
Edit: Im having the issue right now and I just checked but seems like some tabs work and some dont so i really dont get it.

    Hi again,
I have been testing and I still have this issue. I ran the recommended antivirus multiple times and seems like i got rid of the speedbit malware and so but it didnt any good. What can I do now? This problem is driving me crazy.
    Thank you.

  • Nokia software update whilst connected through the...

    Hi,
    I have a nokia 6500 slide v6.60.
I connect my laptop via this to the internet.
I have run the update software and it tells me version 9.40 is available.
If I now proceed with this does any one know what will happen. As in, does the NSU download the new version fully to a temperorary folder before updating it to the phone( obvioiusly on restart of phone the internet connection would drop and if new version still downloading and taking affect all hell could breakloose  .
Is there somewhere I could just manually download the new version then apply the update???
    Many thanks in advance
    Micosmiling

It should work in theory, then again I wouldn't like to be the guy putting that theory to the test
NSU does indeed download the full firmware package before toggling the phone into flash mode and uploading that package. FWIW, it also keeps that firmware package so that you can re-install it into the phone without having to download it all over again if the update fails first time.
How NSU will react if the phone about to be updated is also the modem, meaning that the Internet connection gets severed suddenly, is anyone's guess.

  • After upgrading to Snow Leopard I can't use software update or firefox, and the internet is slow

I'm getting big problems. After installing Mac OS X Leopard from my usb, I had to since my disk drive stopped working, I had the following problems.  1) Firefox stopped working.  2) Software Update stopped working 3) Chrome runs really slow.  4) Safari stopped working 5) Even on Chrome I can't access any email, including; gmail; hotmail; yahoo; etc...
When software update loads it says checking... but it stays at 10% for at least 1 hr.  I reinstalled SL once and it did something different, suddenly my wifi stopped working, and rapidly fluxtuated.
What the heck is going on?

Yes LS needs a update to work with the changes in 10.6.8, so does Parallels.

  • HELP MEE !!!!!!!!!!! CAnt Connect to the internet !

I have an airport express connected the my belkin ethernet swtich, The switch is connected to my DSL-302G internet modem, and also my computer. The internet on my windows PC is fine.
But on my macbook, there no internet connection, everything seems to be right. Plus the airport extreme light is green. BUT NO INTERNET connection
    HELP MEEEEEEE!
btw. I have tried turning off, restarting and all that, and waited a long time between periods. doesnt work..
Please run me through step by step, the procedure to make my internet work on my macbook!
    thank you.

So there is no absolute way that my ethernet switch would make the airport extreme work ?
    Yes, that is correct.
Since that is the case, Please also tell how to set it up. If i get a gateway, will the airport express still work ? Or does this gateway your talking about the solution and i need to take the airport express & my belkin ethernet switch back to the retailer?
With an Internet gateway, like the AirPort Extreme Base Station, you can replace both the Belkin switch and AirPort Express as the Extreme would perform both of these functions. However, if you have a requirement to stream iTunes, then you will still need to retain the Express.

  • Help me my 7370 cant connect to the internet/wap/g...

i have a 7370 nokia phone and i wanted to recieve someone's picture message, but i tryed to connect to the nokia site on my phone and it just came up with 'service not avaliable.' the little 'G' sign appeared at the top of my screen briefly while it said 'loading' but it just would not connect. virgin charged my 1p/2p for it, even though the home page screen didnt show.
when you go onto 'themes' or 'videos' in the gallery folder, there is the option to connect to nokia.com, and just underneath the option name is '0.5kB' in small font. i thought that a connection to the nokia site would need more memory than that.
is there a fault in downloading the file at the factory?
is there any way i could download anything from the internet to get my phone to connect?
do i have to contact my service provider? if yes, how?
this is getting really annoying now as many people have sent me files which i just cannot hav access to because of this problem.
    please help! thanks xx

i would recommend checking you have all the correct settings for the phone, if u have used the handset on another network ull need to restore fact settins and then have the new settings sent to the handset.
    Hope that help!!

Not long ago Adobe retired at least some of the servers that were involved in supporting Photoshop CS2.  I don't know whether that may be the root cause of what you're seeing, but I suspect it might be.  They have provided a "standalone" version of Photoshop CS2, complete with all updates, for folks who have Photoshop CS2 licenses:

Since Adobe is no longer releasing updates for old versions, such as CS2, it's prudent to disable the software that runs in the background incessantly checking for updates that will never come.  This will free up resources on your system for real work.  Experience has shown it's possible to disable nearly all the software installed by Adobe to run in the background and still run Photoshop quite successfully.
I recommend downloading a free program published by a Microsoft employee called Autoruns for reviewing all the software (not just Adobe) that you have starting and running on your Windows system.  Such software is the prime reason Windows systems seem to "bog down" over time.  The Autoruns program allows you to disable particular modules you determine you don't need simply by clearing a checkbox, and it retains the information that you have done so by keeping the program in the list, just unchecked.
