Software update - Could not connect to service
Hi,
When I use PC Suite its says update ready. When I try to update it says could not connect to service.
I have an E72 I just bought (used) to replace my one that was stolen recently, and its firmware is old - in fact its firmware version is 0.22 (i.e. 2009). I cannot update it via *#0000# - whatever I do it seems impossible to upgrade the firmware.
At first I thought it was due to Nokias servers being down - but I think not as its been about a week now. I have of course checked Internet Explorer is not set in offline mode, and my firewall was down and antivirus off.
Is there anyway of getting the file and flashing the firmware myself?
(I have hard reset the phone via *#7370# and 12345 unlock, and this got OVI store working, but still cannot update the firmware via PC or WIFI.)
Thanks.
OK - just in case anybody else is affected by this - heres how to solve it. It didn't work with my laptops PC suite - I dunno why.
So - Simply reinstall OVI PC Suite - I installed it fresh on a virgin Windows 7 PC and it set everything up no problem.
It downloaded SoftwareUpdater which I then ran seperate, but it complained that it couldn't see my Nokia connected to it by USB. But I just had to wait a while until windows 7 update downloaded all the drivers to connect to the USB on the Nokia.
I restarted it, then it connected and detected the old 0.22 firmware and downloaded and installed the new 0.83 firmware - the Nokia went blank etc... so I knew it was finally working.
Fantastic - everything went smooth as a babys bum. Its very frustrating when it reports that it cannot update and you waste a week falsely thinking thats its down to Nokias service outages etc...

An older version of Apple Software Update could not be removed
when trying to upgrade to itunes 8 i get an error saying "An older version of Apple Software Update could not be removed. Contact your technical support group."
Polydorus, you just saved me a lot of (additional) heartburn. I had to do a system restore to rid myself of a virus, and afterwards, somehow all my Apple products entered a state of suspended animation - they were neither there nor not there. They were still listed in the programs and all the shortcuts remained, but clicking the icons led to an error message stating the programs were gone. I couldn't do a reinstall because it said an older version could not be removed, yet I couldn't uninstall them via the Add/Remove program function - "the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable". Delving further, I was told "the installation source for this product is not available. verify that the source exists and that you can access it." I was nearly apoplectic.
Your direction to use Windows Install Clean Up worked perfectly. iTunes et al are back and all my songs are right where I left them.
I am so grateful. -

Hi There,
Safari, iTunes, software update iCal not connecting. Firefox is fine.
I have found some archieved discussions about this, but none that went into detail about how to fix problem using proxies - I don't really understand what they are/ do.
I went into the Proxies screen, Only one box was checked, "Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV)" I unchecked it, and made no difference. There was also some stuff written in the "Bypass proxy settings for these hosts and domains" I deleated that and nothing different happened. Have also tried some other DNS numbers, nothing worked yet.
Any suggestions?I still have no idea what was wrong with Safari last week, but I opened it today, and its all working! Hurrah!
Woohoo! I'm a great fan of things fixing themselves. Fingers crossed in New Zealand for no further problems. -
when I plug in my iphone5 or iPad into my Mac I get the message iTunes could not connect the service did not start properly on this device
If you are using Windows 7, go to:
Control Panel>Programs>Programs and Features
Look for a program called 'Apple Mobile Device Support'
Right-click on it
Click 'repair'
Wait until the repair operation is complete, and voila, your problem should be solved, itunes will recognise your iphone/ipod once more. This worked for me. -
Updates: "Could not connect to the service"
Hi,
Every time I click on the software update button in Ovi Suite it seems to be checking for updates, but after a while I get the message
Could not connect to the service
There seems to be a problem with connecting to the Nokia Ovi Suite update service. Make sure that your firewall and virus protection settings are correct. Also, make sure that the menu option for working offline is not selected in Internet Explorer. If you still cannot connect, the service may be unavailable. Please try again later.
I got a similar message with an earlier version of Ovi Suite, so I uninstalled it and installed version 3.0.0.290 manually, but I am still getting this message.
ThanksThere has been a problem with Ovi suite where it has used some old GTE CyberTrust certificates from the pc and those old certificates have expired. If you run a trace on a failed Ovi login using wireshark then you might see something like this:
10.1.1.3 184.27.103.249 SSLv3 Client Hello

184.27.101.249 ==> server in akamaitechnologies.com domain.
The SSLv3 Encrypted Alert message in the trace might be related to those expired certificates. The workaround is to manually remove those certificates, but I don't think that has worked for everyone.
It appears that there might have been some improvements in Ovi Suite 3.1.0.84, which is why satari is recommending to upgrade to Ovi Suite 3.1.0.84. If this works for people here, it would be really useful if those people could confirm, so other people can know if that fixed the problem. -
Safari, iTunes, Software Update will not connect...
I'm piggy-backing on an issue that Parajanov posted at 7:10AM today: I'm having almost the exact same issues, but I've tried everything noted in that post and have not been able to connect with either Safari v2.0, iTunes v7.0, or Software Update.
When I open Safari I get: Safari can't connect to the server. Safari can't open the page "http://www.website.com/" because it could not connect to the server "www.website.com". That same message holds true for every website I attempt but one: my bank. My bank's 24-hour online service is the only thing I can access on Safari.
A little background: This started last week when I was browsing and in the middle of my session, quite possibly to my online bank, when I tried to go back home I got the first message. Sadly, I didn't document the problem as it happened because I thought it was a simple problem. I quit Safari, restarted my computer, and still nothing. Then when I tried to view my history, I saw that all of my previously visited site entries had been replaced with something like "dot607," like a total of 50 entries all the same. Like I said, I didn't document the problem when it happened, so don't take my "dot607" verbatim, but it was something like that. Totally puzzling.
Next, I opened iTunes and Software Update and they both dialog box me and said that it's a network problem. I'm defintely connected because I've been using Firefox for the past few days with no issues whatsoever.
I've attempted to trash com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences. plist, as suggested by Mactechguy, no luck. I've attempted to trash com.apple.safari.preferences.plist, no luck. I've attempted to use Disk Utility and restart, no luck.
This is the first time I've ever had anything like this happen and it's really aggarvating. Help me out Mac Tech community, please!
800MHz Power PC G4 Mac OS X (10.4.7)Sorry, Eme. That too, did not work. Anyone else have any insights or suggestions?
Np; ), I am sorry for this predicament you are in, & nothing is helping,
do search in the Safari forum for redirects, there is a situation going on with this.
I think there is one right on the first page here.
I however, have found the DNS #s are needed in the TCP/IP tab.
I could only browse to earthlink without them however that was last year I have used them since, they were not volunteered.
Did you do a restart, of your mac?
Have you tried a test account to see if Safari works there
System pref.-> Accounts-> Login Options use the + to add one. Log out of your username account & into the test account.
Worth a shot, imo.
I will look for the other topics on this similar issue.

Info on your router, connection method etc, could help. Also if the test account works & if you have ichat set up does that work ? -
Software Update: Could not be Verified
I have a MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.7.3 Lion. Since I have gotten it, I've used Software Update without experiencing any problems - untill now. Now, whenever I try to download/install updates, I get an error message saying "The update could not be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs." What is going on, and how can I fix this?
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
the iphone cannot be restore at this time because the iphone software update server could not be contacted or temperarily unavailable....
this error has been occred"Activation Server Temporarily Unavailable, contact Customer Care?"
99.9% of the time, the cause of this issue is the fact the phone was jailbroken/hacked to unlock it for use on networks other than the network the phone was originally locked to. Apple maintains a database of officially unlocked iPhones, and when Apple's servers detect phones such as yours, activation stops & you get the message you got.
So, either get a sim card from the carrier your phone was originally locked to, or get it officially unlocked, if you want to activate it. Because it appears that it was not officially unlocked. -
Software Update - could not be verified and expanded
I tried to do a search on this, but didnt initially find anything.
Software Update runs, finds updates to download, I click Install Updates, they are downloaded but then I get an error that reads, The update "XYZ" could not be verified and expanded correctly. Make sure you have permissions to write to /private/tmp/501/temporariyitems, then try again.
I tried to chown the permissions on that directory, no difference. I then did:
sudo su
cd /private
rm -r tmp
mkdir tmp
cd /
ln -s /private/tmp tmp
...and now the error message for software update has become: blah blah blah, Make sure you have permission to write to /tmp/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate, then try again.
Can anyone help? This computer has been sitting dormant for a couple of months and I wasnt the main user before so I can only assume this has been going on for a while and is not a new issue. Thanks!!!

Do you have an admin account on the computer?
Instead of Software Update, I suggest that you download and install 10.3.9 Combo Update. Remember to Repair Disk Permissions before and after installation.
Happy Holidays.

Software Update says not connected to internet
Today, when loading my web email into my local
mailbox, it stopped half-way through. Nothing else
will load in. The emails are still on my internet
web page mail. So, then I tried to see if there are
any software updates. The message comes back that I
am not connected to the internet. Of course, I am or
I would not be here. I sent a test email and it was
sent and received by my web mail account, but will
not, as any others, come on over to my local mailbox.
Note: I do not have to have any browser open to
receive my local email. But today, it just stopped.
Help! Please.I will call them tomorrow.
My ISP is Internet America.
I have been with them since they took over
Cyberamp back in the 90s.
I have DSL.
My terminology is limited. The local mail I am speaking
of is the program that came on my Mac when I
installed it. I can only access it when I am on this
particular computer. Otherwise, I call up Internet
Amer. webmail. The mail stays there, until I launch
my "local" mail here at home. This has never happened
before and today it brought about half my email over
and then just quit. Since then, nothing has come over.
I can go to the internet in every other way except when
trying to have my software updates checked. It says I
am not connected to the internet.
As I said, I will call them tomorrow and will post what
they say.
Thanks very much. -
Software update says not connected to the internet...but I am!!
Can anyone help me please? whenever I try to use Software Update (from either the apple menu or System Prefs-network) I get a prompt saying I am not connected to the internet, but I am as I can launch Safari.
The prompt also asks if I want to run a diagnostic on the network, if I accept and follow the instructions I get a window saying there is nothing wrong with my connection.
Why can this be? Can anyone throw some light on this for me?
Many thanks, Robert
Powermac G4 AGP Mac OS X (10.4.8) wireless networkVery cool....I did as you said and bingo...loads of

I install them using the new account and then I trash
the new account will I lose the installed downloads?
(B) how do I rectify my account to see the internet?
Many thanks for your help and I am sorry to be so

Hi Robert, Welcome to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
You should be OK if you don't install into the User Account Home. Put them, as appropriate, into System Applications or Shared.

Apple software updater could not be found on my desktop
i have tryed to update my software updater and the updater path cannot be found but when i go to remove programs it wont let me remove the updater or itunes itself it cant find the installer itself and also when i try and reinstall itunes from the set up it still cant find it.
Use Get Info. on a broken track and view the "expected" location from the summary tab. Restore the file from a backup, or find out where it has been moved to and move it back. If there is an obvious pattern it may be possible to move everything in one go, or I have a script called FindTracks that may be able to reconnect files to their current locations, assuming they're still present somewhere.

What model number of AirPort Extreme do you have?
What operating system are you using on your Mac?
The setup "wizard" will practically configure the AirPort Extreme for you if you use it. Were you using this utility?
Did you reset the AirPort Extreme back to factory default settings before you tried to reconfigure it to become a part of of your network?
