Software Update doesn't find 10.5.7 Update

I have a 3-month old MacBook Pro and software update doesn't find the 10.5.7 update, About This Mac says my system is 10.5.6. I also have an orginal MacBook Pro running Leopard and this finds it.

Forget software update, it's better to update through combo (or directly downloaded from apple site) anyway.

Make sure to verify/repair the disk, and repair permissions from the OSX install disk Disk Utility before updating.
Also if you have Disk Warrior run that before and after install.
Lastly, most importantly...CLONE your drive before any install.
Use Superduper! or Carbon Copy Cloner.

  • N82: Nokia Software Update doesn't find the phone

Hello, I am trying to update the firmware of my Nokia N82, but I get an error message from Nokia Software Updater saying that it doesn't find the phone. I find that strange as Nokia PC Suite indeed finds the phone. The icon on the taskbar says that "AndersMobil is connected".
I've noticed that if I let Nokia PC Suite run at the same time as Nokia Software Updater, this icon shows that the phone is being connected and disconnected several times while Nokia Software Updater tries to find the phone, something that might indicate that the two programs cannot be run at the same time? I tried to run Nokia Software Update alone, but still the program doesn't find the phone.
In Windows Hardware Manager (or Units manager, not sure of the english translation) of Windows XP, "Nokia GSM Phone USB Modem" gives the following error message: "The unit is not working as it should as Windows cannot load the necessary drivers for this unit (Code 31)." Under "Portable Devices" in Hardware Manager/(or Units manager?) the error message "This unit cannot start. (Code 10)" appears for the unit "AndersMobil".
I followed the guidelines on the internet reinstalling Nokia PC Suite and Nokia Software Updater, removing and reinstalling the drivers, but Nokia Software Update still doesn't find the phone, and the same error messages appears in Hardware/Units manager every time.
    What do I do?
    Regards,
    Anders
By the way, I sent an e-mail to Nokia support about this but they still haven't answered although it's been a long time since.

  • HT1338 Apple's software update doesn't find any updates?

Since updating to OS 10.8.3 the software update does not seem to work anymore. Recently iTunes came up with a message saying that a new version was available but clicking on the update option it re-directed to the App Store and a notification appeared stating that no updates were available. Doesn't make sense to me, especially if I search online on the Apple website I find plenty updates!
Is this a known glitch or am I doing something wrong here? This problem has occured on both my iMac and MacBook Pro. Bye the way, an update to 10.8.4 hasn't changed a thing.

    Maybe this?

  • Program Update doesn't find anything

For example, when I select "Search for updates" in iMovie it tells me a new version is available. I have 7.1 and 7.1.1 is available. To update, iMovie opens Program Update.
Only... in Program Update, there is nothing!
I wonder how many other updates I'm missing.
Can anyone help me to sort this out?

Yeah you DEFINITELY do not want to delete everything. As Brody said, its used for repairing permissions etc. Deleting a single receipt before reinstalling something should be fine as it will allow it to show up in software update.
At this point, I'd just recommend downloading and installing it manually:

  • Software update doesn't find latest software on q10

Hy, I have a problem with my Q10. I have de OS 10.1.0.2309 and when I go to Software Updates and click on Check for Updates i get the message "You have the latest software". The same thing happens when i try with BB Link.
Can someone please help me update my OS to 10.3 or explain please what I have to do?
    Thanks.

You don't know how many devices out of all the devices are having problems. I don't mean to make light of your issues. They are not good. But it definitely doesn't mean a majority of all devices have major problems. I have three devices on 10.3.1 and have only minor little bugs here and there.

  • Software update doesn't find new iTunes

For a while now when I open iTunes, it tells me there is an update available. When I click download, it sends me to Software Update. Software Update tells me "Your software is up to date". I check that iTunes was not an "ignored update" and it is not. I know I can download manually from the apple website, but that is not convenient and it means something on my computer is not setup correctly.
Anyone have suggestions on how to make Software Update realize I have an iTunes update?
    thanks

What version of the Mac operating system is installed on your MacBook? To find this information, go to the Apple menu, select About this Mac and look where it says version.
iTunes 11.0.1 requires Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later, so if you want to use your iPhone with your MacBook, you will need to update the OS on the MacBook at least that far.
You can purchase 10.6.8 on disk from Apple for $20 (in the USA.)
If you want to get a more recent OS, let us know what the specs on your MacBook are, we'll tell you what you can get.
    Best of luck.

  • Running 10.7.4 and Software Update doesn't find HP 4680 drivers

for some reason the magic of the software update is not enabling the necessary stuff to be findable
is there anything special about 10.7.4 and the HP photosmart C4680?

    Hi,
As Apple Software Update fails to obtain the latest software you may install the HP Printer Drivers 2.11 package:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
Then try addaing the printer again by clicking the plus sign under Print & Scan.
    Hope that helps,

  • Spotlight doesn't find application after AppStore update

This started happening with Type2Phone, an app from Houdah Software. Every time after I would update the app via the AppStore, Spotlight would no longer find the app (I use Spotlight for app launching). I contacted the developer, and following a series of steps, we found that what is happening is that somehow the updated app is having this attribute added to it:
    kMDItemSupportFileType = ( MDSystemFile )
[This is the output of the mdls command]
This explains why Spotlight is no longer finding the app.
Now logically, he informed me that this command should remove the attribute:
    sudo xattr -d com.apple.metadata:kMDItemSupportFileType /Applications/Type2Phone.app
But although the command executes, it doesn't remove the attribute! I.e.
    mdls /Applications/Type2Phone.app/ | grep MDSystemFile
Still has " MDSystemFile" as output.
I've run Disk Utility to check for directory damage, rebuilt permissions, etc. to no avail. The only solution is to rebuild the Spotlight index completely -- but the problem will recur with a new update.
Although it inexplicably only happened every time I updated Type2Phone, now it's happening when I update Tweetbot.
Any insights into this problem which is driving me batty?

Try contacting apple on the chat now option

  • Disk Utility Background Process Fails.  Combo Updater doesn't find Disk

When I start Disk Utility, I get a message "error starting disk utility background process" with a "quit" button which can't be clicked. So, I force quit.
When I try to run a combo updater (10.4.3 or 10.4.7), the "select volume" window shows no volumes.
In both instances, the system log tells me:
    DiskManagementTool crashed
And the console log tells me:
dyld: lazy symbol binding failed: Symbol not found: _GPTuuidType2Human Referenced from: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DiskManagement.framework/Resources/DiskManage mentTool
    Expected in: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MediaKit.framework/Versions/A/MediaKit

    Referenced from: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DiskManagement.framework/Resources/DiskManage mentTool
    Expected in: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MediaKit.framework/Versions/A/MediaKit
I have run fsck -y in single-user mode, repair disk and permissions in disk utility from my install disk, and Disk Warrior. Still the same.
Is there any way I to fix this without rebuilding the machine?
    Thanks,

    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Hello
I had the same problems. I don't know the cause but it surely comes from the "software update" software. In the future I will only use the combo updater that you can find on http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxupdate1047comboppc.html
I ended up reinstalling 10.4 from scratch and then running the combo update. It know works fine.

  • Adobe Updater doesn't find updates, wrong version, hangs

I have the full CS5. When I first installed, updater found a number of updates, and recently, it notified me of the update to Photoshop, so it was working.
I just ran Updater after installing Acrobat, and it did not find any updates, even though there is an update for Flash Builder, which I ended up downloading manually. Additionally, it has the old interface, and offered to check for "All CS4 applications." Umm, wrong version. Now, the Updater icon sits in my Dock and won't quit.

The Acrobat update mechanism is different from that of CS5 products. Did you try a "Help --> Check for updates" from with any CS5 App ?

  • IPhone 3GS, doesn't find any network after updating to iOS 4.1

I recently updated my iPhone 3GS, and now I can't find any network. This really bothers me as I need a phone. How can I fix this?

Do the following in the order specified:
    1. Power your phone off, wait ~30 seconds, then power it back on. If no change, proceed:
    2. Reset your phone: Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the Apple logo, then release(ignore the slide to power off). If no change, proceed:
    3. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.
If no change after the above, post back.

  • Windows Update doesn't work - lost all prior update history

    Hello,
My HP Pavilion DV7 just informed me that after 4 years of use, all windows updates are lost. There is no history. I installed the Windows hotfix and find that the next step (since the hotfix didn't work) is to run the Windows 7 DVD setup.exe. However, my HP Pavilion did not come with any Windows media disks. I called the store and they say that no computers in the last 3 to 4 years come with media any more. They said the media is on one of the partiitions. Can't find it.
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks,
    HPuser58

    Hi,
    There are two options available.
    1.  You can order a replacement set of Recovery Discs using the link below - these will reinstall the operating system, all required drivers and nearly all of the original software ( the exception often being trials of MS Office ).  They will also re-create all the original partitions, including the Recovery Partition.
    Order HP Recovery Discs.
    2.  Another option you could consider is to create your own Windows 7 installation disc.
Before trying the following, make sure you can still read the 25 Character Product Activation key on your Windows COA label ( 5 blocks of 5 alpha/numeric sets ).
An example of a COA Label can be seen Here.
You can create a Windows 7 installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct Disc Image ( this must be the same version that originally came with your notebook - this is listed as Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit ) from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn ( Note: You may want to de-select the additional software offerings during the installation of ImgBurn ) to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  The Windows Image source is Digital River.
    Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit.
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the COA Label when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.

Additional drivers and software you may need can be found Here.
    Best regards,

  • How do those who don't watch boards find out about firmware updates?

Since 'Software Update' doesn't alert users to firmware updates, I wonder how those that don't monitor these boards and other 'Mac news' sites find out about firmware updates?
Yes, Boot Camp made headline news in many major newspapers and those who wanted to install it found they needed to update the firmware first.
But, had I not read about it elsewhere earlier, I would not have known about the second MBP firmware update (which, apparently, solves some of the 'whine' issues - I've had no whining but I like to keep my firmware, in particular, up to date!).
Just as a note to Apple - you've a database of all who have registered their MPB's (at least those with AppleCare if not those who simply run set-up with new Mac purchases). If firmware updates aren't included in the 'Software Updates' procedure, shooting off an email to those with machines that might be in need of firmware updates may save a world of grief to overworked phone support techs.

Yes, I'm familiar with the support page but my point is that not all (in act, likely very few) are familiar enough with that page to go to "Top Downloads" to find firmware updates.
On page 25 of the MacBook Pro Users Guide, Apple DOES suggest, in the next to the last paragraph, suggest "For support information, user discussion boards, and the latest Apple software downloads, go to www.apple.com/support."
But if a new user is having problems he or she is more likely than not to pick up the phone first - and although there's the 90-day phone support and 3 year phone support for those who purchase AppleCare (which new users may not - particularly if buying from, say, CompUSA or other stores who push 'extended warranties' even with the purchase of products whose manufacturers already provide LIFETIME warranties) Apple has thoughtfully provided automated Software Updates (which Windows switchers understand all too well!) but no automated way to be lead to firmware updates. It's my feeling that if firmware notification were included in SU notifications, or via email, it might reduce the number of phone calls and result in happier computers.
While I enjoy reading all the Mac news on a daily basis, a lot of users don't and there may be an even greater number who don't know the wheat from the chaff (or even know where to find the wheat!).
Some firmware updates are critical, some of minor importance, and some (more and more of late, it seems) just a bit cryptic (for instance, 1.01 says "This firmware update is for (MacBook Pro)/iMac (early 2006) computers with Intel processors only. It now runs on localized systems that use languages that read right to left." and then lists the languages supported - which do not include Hebrew or Arabic, two "languages that read right to left".
The only reason that I brought this up is that there are a number of sites that reported that the firmware update alleviates some of the 'whine' that some MBP users are reporting (and now I am reading of 'hum' issues - forget GarageBand! An hundred MBP's could replace a symphony!). Now is that true or not? Apple doesn't say - some users report yes, some no. And as there are no whine or hum issues on the iMac, I doubt 1.01 would 'solve' any of those problems with that machine (and interesting, too, that the "iMac (early 2006) Firmware Update 1.0.1" isn't in the "Top Downloads" section as is "MacBook Pro (early 2006) Firmware Update 1.0.1": what's up with that? Are there really more MBPs out there than Intel iMacs? Or are MBP owners running Windows in Arabic more than Intel iMac owners? Or just hopeful that the update does, indeed, help with the whine problem.
I keep getting off topic (sort of)...
...my point is that it would be simple to notify, and simpler for (in my opinion), Apple to notify customers of firmware updates.

As Retired Engineer indicated, you will need to install Snow Leopard first.  After you install Snow Leopard, you need to go into Software Update and perform the updates.  10.6.6 will install the App Store.  You should continue to update to 10.6.8 before purchasing and installing Lion from the App Store.
Be sure your machine meets the minimum requirements.  Basically, any Mac with a Core 2 Duo processor or later and at least 2GB of RAM (but 4 is highly recommended).  If you have a first generation MacBook Pro with a Core Duo, you will not be able to upgrade to Lion.
