Software Update doesn't identify if I new software
I run 10.5.7, I ran software update to install latest 10.5.8 update but it came back with 'software is up to date' . I downloaded the 10.5.7 - 10.5.8 updater but when I ran it, the installer showed a red 'X' over my hard disk and wouldn't install it.
I recently upgraded my Apple 250GB HD to a Samsung 500GB laptop drive, would this be the cause of the problem?
Hi tigerbeerz:
make sure your disk is GPT if it is an Intel Machine.
(diskutility will show you)
Perhaps the boot volume needs to be blessed.
in terminal.app at the prompt:
sudo bless --folder "/Volumes/Mac OS X/System/Library/CoreServices" --bootinfo --bootefi
#this will properly rebuild your boot files-you can do this "on the run", no need to boot from DVD#
Check your /Library/Updates folder, it should be empty except for an index.plist file, if not
trash everything in it (including the index.plist file).

No it will not. Your settings, passwords, bookmarks and other data are stored in another location so they won't be harmed.
As a precaution, you can Backup your Profile before installing Firefox 7

Software Update doesn't have any new software for your computer at this time
HI
I manged to get all my updates downlaoded and on my server, i have currently enabled 133 of 400 updates.
I have changed my snow leopard machine to point to the internal update server
But then after a while of checking this displays software Update doesn't have any new software for your computer at this time
Which is a Lie, because i know there are updates on the server that the computer needs to have.
Any Ideas
Many ThanksOh i forgot to say in consol (from the client) i get can't instantiate distribution from server address error Domain=NSXMLParserErrorDomain code=70 etc
Any ideas anyone? -
I bought Finalcut X from the App store store when it first came out but software update doesn't see it and let me download the newer versions! How do I fix this please?
thanks
Russell MoranJust delete it from the Applications folder, and re-download it.
If it still says installed when you go to Purchased in App Store, click somewhere else, and option-click Purchased. That allows you to redownload already installed software. -
"Software update" doesn't do anything whatsoever!
I have run "Software update" on my new Intel Mac Pro (10.4.9) successfully. Today, no matter how many times I select it from the Apple menu of Finder, the "Software update" doesn't do anything: no error, no "checking at Apple", nothing! Has anyone seen this, and what can I do to make it work again?
MikeGo to System Preferences/Software Update, and
initiate it from there.
aha! That worked - great, thanks. Do you know why it stopped working from the Apple menu?!?
It should start working from
the Apple Menu after you do. To prove it, as SU
begins to run from System Preferences, click on the
Finder, then select SU from the Apple Menu. It should
immediately bring you to the SU window.
nope - this one didn't work. I tried clicking on it from Apple while it was "checking" and nothing happened. But after it was done checking, it did bring up the "new software is available for your computer" window.
So, it's not the end of the world since I can now run it from System Preferences, but it's kind of worrysome that it just stopped working. Also, does this mean it won't happen automatically (on a schedule)?

The software update doesn't support arabic languag...
can you help me about thu=is problem please?
I have nokia N73 and I make a newer update software. it installs successfully but the problem is that Software updater doesn't support Arabic language.
please
if you can help me.
I want it nessecary.I actually published an interactive Arabic textbook with iBooks Author - there were a lot of annoying formatting bugs, and more of it was in english than Arabic, as it was for beginners. I submitted it to see how much interest there was for doing more in Arabic, but I haven't had much demand so far.
check it out if you like:

there are a couple mistakes that I am aware of, and will update for the latest version, but if you see anything else, feel free to let me know. -
Lion 10.7.2 Software Update doesn't offer Lion 10.7.3
2007 Mac Pro 3GHZ (2,1) with Lion 10.7.2.
Software Update doesn't see that the 10.7.3 update is available for this machine. I successfully upgraded a MacBook Pro using Software Update, but this machine doesn't find it. So, I've downloaded the Combo Update and will run it tomorrow, unless someone here thinks something else is amiss. It's definitely not being presented to some machines.
My Mid-2011 Mac Mini Server was presented the update via Software Update and installed fine.
My Mid-2011 27", Early-2009 24" iMacs and my Mid-2010 Macbook Pro aren't being presented the update.
As a question, are you using Filevault by any chance? It's the only common thread I can find between the three that aren't working for me.
Edit: Give the Combo update a shot. Looks to have worked fine for me. -
HT4623 How do I update my iphone 5 to the new ios7 software using itunes on my computer?
How do I update my iphone 5 to the new ios7 software using itunes on my computer?
Just for clarity, do you have iTunes 11.1 now on your computer? If yes, when you connect your iPhone via your USB / Lightning cable is your iTunes opening with a small box near the top right of screen that shows your iPhone connected? If yes then you can click through the various views of your iPhones content areas, such as Music, Photos, etc. You will eventually get to a screen that is Status. On that screen you should see the iOS Update option.

I recently updated my MacBook Pro to the new software, and now my iMessage and my FaceTime are not connected with my phone number like it is supposed to be. How do I get them to match so that I would be able to use my cellphone number on my notebook?
To reset any OS X program just go to the folder and trash the affected files.
Open a new Finder Window
Click "Go" in the above status bar
Click and HOLD the "option/alt" key and you will see "Library" now show in the above list
Click Library while still holding the option/alt key and a new window will open with all of your system files
Go to the preference file (NOT Preference Panes)
Locate a file named <com.apple.FaceTime.bag.plist>
Locate another file named <com.apple.FaceTime.plist>
Locate the file <com.apple.iMessage.bag.plist>
Drag the files to the trash
Delete the trash
Close FaceTime and iMessage if not already closed
Relaunch FaceTime and iMessage from Applications folder
This should reset the program back to default. You will have to put your information back into the program but it should work.
Good Luck. -
I'm trying to download java on my Mac machine but the software update doesn't show me anything. Please advise what I should do to get the application.
If you can run it under chrome, you have java installed.
There was some malware that exploited an older version of Java (not javascript) running in a Browser. Since few people use it Apple turned off Java by default in the Safari Browser.
If you need it for something, just turn it back on in Safari preferences (inside Safari). After a few months of non-use, you may find it has turned itself off again. -
Software update doesn't recognise internet
Since my computer last updated (some time in July), software update has stopped working.
For example, itunes is repeatedly informing me of a new update, but then software update, after trying to check for new software comes up with an error message stating there appears to be no internet connection and directing me to network diagnostics which says everything is fine, at which point software update quits.
This error occurs on both home and work internet connections (regardless therefore of proxy settings) and everything worked fine until July.
Is it possible to get an older version of software update back somehow using time machine? Or do I have to redownload via the mac website the latest version of Snow Leopard to try and fix this.
I am the only user on this computer and am administrator. It is not my ISP-it does not work on both a university network, a cable service provider and a normal home internet connection-i.e. in every possible type of network I connect to. I have not changed my internet configuration or anything-it simply stopped working after my last major OS update (must have been quite large as it took about 20 minutes for my old computer to install it on restart).
Pinging swcdn works fine.
Pinging swquery and swscan does not work. I guess this must be the problem.
I can download files from the apple website fine. Its just a bit annoying to have to remember to go to the website. -
Software Update doesn't offer upgrade from 10.9 to 10.9.2
I have a MacBook Air running OS X Mavericks (10.9). I want to upgrade to 10.9.2 but Software Update doesn’t offer anything. Is there another way to download and install the updates?

Software Update doesn't find 10.5.7 Update
I have a 3-month old MacBook Pro and software update doesn't find the 10.5.7 update, About This Mac says my system is 10.5.6. I also have an orginal MacBook Pro running Leopard and this finds it.
Forget software update, it's better to update through combo (or directly downloaded from apple site) anyway.
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1057comboupdate .html
Make sure to verify/repair the disk, and repair permissions from the OSX install disk Disk Utility before updating.
Also if you have Disk Warrior run that before and after install.
Lastly, most importantly...CLONE your drive before any install.
Use Superduper! or Carbon Copy Cloner.

Is it a good idea to update my iphone 3GS with the new io6 software? I did it with my iphone 3G and the io4 software ruined it really!
Your plan is generally OK, but I would suggest a different approach, since you're so frazzled by it.
1. Update iPhoto first; check and backup the iPhoto Library;
2. Upgrade to Yosemite; This will prompt you to migrate to Photos, but you don't have to do it, so don't!
3. iPhoto 9.6.1 will remain in your Applications folder and you can continue to use it;
4. Learn more about Photos, it's features and how iCloud Photo Library really works (for example, once you turn it on, you won't need to download manually);
5. When you do feel you know enough about Photos, only then launch it to migrate your photos; after migration your iPhoto Library remains fully functional, in case you want to revert to using iPhoto, so that part should not worry you.
Thet biggest issue you have is the small amount of free space. You might want to address tha first, or locate your new Photos Library on an external drive as well, and only move it to your local drive when it's been optimized (or keep it on an external).
