Software update doesn't recognize Aperture 3.

I tried to download 3.2.2 and I get a message that I must have 3.0 to download. I already have 3.2.1. What can I do?

Make sure that Aperture is in your Applications folder (not a subfolder) and is simply named Aperture. Software update will not be able to see it if you moved or re-named it.

  • Lion 10.7.2 Software Update doesn't offer Lion 10.7.3

    2007 Mac Pro 3GHZ (2,1) with Lion 10.7.2.
Software Update doesn't see that the 10.7.3 update is available for this machine. I successfully upgraded a MacBook Pro using Software Update, but this machine doesn't find it. So, I've downloaded the Combo Update and will run it tomorrow, unless someone here thinks something else is amiss.

It's definitely not being presented to some machines.
My Mid-2011 Mac Mini Server was presented the update via Software Update and installed fine.
My Mid-2011 27", Early-2009 24" iMacs and my Mid-2010 Macbook Pro aren't being presented the update.
As a question, are you using Filevault by any chance? It's the only common thread I can find between the three that aren't working for me.
Edit:  Give the Combo update a shot.   Looks to have worked fine for me.

I'm trying to download java on my Mac machine but the software update doesn't show me anything. Please advise what I should do to get the application.

If you can run it under chrome, you have java installed.
There was some malware that exploited an older version of Java (not javascript) running in a Browser. Since few people use it Apple turned off Java by default in the Safari Browser.
If you need it for something, just turn it back on in Safari preferences (inside Safari). After a few months of non-use, you may find it has turned itself off again.

  • Software Update doesn't find 10.5.7 Update

I have a 3-month old MacBook Pro and software update doesn't find the 10.5.7 update, About This Mac says my system is 10.5.6. I also have an orginal MacBook Pro running Leopard and this finds it.

Forget software update, it's better to update through combo (or directly downloaded from apple site) anyway.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx1057comboupdate .html
Make sure to verify/repair the disk, and repair permissions from the OSX install disk Disk Utility before updating.
Also if you have Disk Warrior run that before and after install.
Lastly, most importantly...CLONE your drive before any install.
Use Superduper! or Carbon Copy Cloner.

  • "Software update" doesn't do anything whatsoever!

I have run "Software update" on my new Intel Mac Pro (10.4.9) successfully. Today, no matter how many times I select it from the Apple menu of Finder, the "Software update" doesn't do anything: no error, no "checking at Apple", nothing! Has anyone seen this, and what can I do to make it work again?
    Mike

Go to System Preferences/Software Update, and
    initiate it from there.
aha! That worked - great, thanks. Do you know why it stopped working from the Apple menu?!?
    It should start working from
the Apple Menu after you do. To prove it, as SU
begins to run from System Preferences, click on the
Finder, then select SU from the Apple Menu. It should
immediately bring you to the SU window.
nope - this one didn't work. I tried clicking on it from Apple while it was "checking" and nothing happened. But after it was done checking, it did bring up the "new software is available for your computer" window.
So, it's not the end of the world since I can now run it from System Preferences, but it's kind of worrysome that it just stopped working. Also, does this mean it won't happen automatically (on a schedule)?

You could try deleting the /Library/Printer/EPSON and the /Library/Caches/Epson/ folder and then reinstalling the updates.

    please
    if you can help me.
    I want it nessecary.

I actually published an interactive Arabic textbook with iBooks Author - there were a lot of annoying formatting bugs, and more of it was in english than Arabic, as it was for beginners. I submitted it to see how much interest there was for doing more in Arabic, but I haven't had much demand so far.
check it out if you like:

there are a couple mistakes that I am aware of, and will update for the latest version, but if you see anything else, feel free to let me know.

Just delete it from the Applications folder, and re-download it.
If it still says installed when you go to Purchased in App Store, click somewhere else, and option-click Purchased. That allows you to redownload already installed software.

As Retired Engineer indicated, you will need to install Snow Leopard first.  After you install Snow Leopard, you need to go into Software Update and perform the updates.  10.6.6 will install the App Store.  You should continue to update to 10.6.8 before purchasing and installing Lion from the App Store.
Be sure your machine meets the minimum requirements.  Basically, any Mac with a Core 2 Duo processor or later and at least 2GB of RAM (but 4 is highly recommended).  If you have a first generation MacBook Pro with a Core Duo, you will not be able to upgrade to Lion.

  • Software Update doesn't seem to know installed applications

    Hi Apple support
An application tells me a new update is available (e.g. "iTunes 7.5 is available") but +software update+ reports to me there was no update! Also, i had to download manually Mac OS X 10.5.1!
Is it a known problem and do you have any solutions?
    Regards
    Romain Haenni

It seems as if you have your application in a sub-folder (still within Applications) that Leopard doesn't recognize them. They have to be in the root level of the Applications folder.
This was also the case in Tiger. It seems as if Apple could easily address this issue and have Software Update look in sub-folders within the Applications folder.

  • Software update doesn't show 2.1

When I open Software Update, Aperture 2.1 doesn't show up.
One possibility for this is that I don't have Aperture installed in the Applications folder on the startup drive. Could this be the issue?
The other possibility is that I have a volume license. But I thought volume licenses qualified for free updates?

Just a comment - it is NOT a good idea to move Applications, especially the Apple variety, out of the Applications Folder. If you wish to use another organisation method, why not use an Alias to Aperture in a Folder of your choice, leaving the real Aperture where it belongs. I have a few such Folders with aliases.

  • Software Update doesn't open a Finder window

I am helping a friend new to the Mac OS learn to use the "download only" option in Software Update. On my Mac, when the download completes, a new Finder window opens and shows the complete path to the update pkg(s). I have my Finder window preference set for column view.
I recommended that my friend use the "download only" option on 4 recent updates.
On her Mac, the downloads arrived, but a Finder window never opened. As a result, she was in a panic because she had no idea where the downloads went.
It has now been verified that they are indeed in /Library/Packages. But she had no way of knowing to look there.
I am trying to win this new user over to the Mac, and told her how Software Update would simply show her where it put the pkg files, but it truly doesn't happen on her machine.
It is the late 2006 Core 2 Duo iMac, 2.0 GHz (Intel), running 10.4.11, with almost all subsequent updates.
She is a "new user" in the sense that a) she is 78 years old and b) her previous PC ran Windows 95. She has had a very rough 2 years to date with Tiger - I receive a "HELP!" e-mail or phone call every 2-3 days. She looks for Mac Help in Mail, looks for Address Book Help in iPhoto, etc.
Excuse the digression. Any ideas why Software Update refuses to show where the downloads are? Any possible fixes? I know this is a small problem, but it's a significant one for my friend.
    Thanks

I'm aware of that approach. I personally think its handy to have the update installers all at hand before I do any updates. If an update goes badly, sometimes it can be a good idea to verify the hard drive, repair permissions, and reapply it, at least that's what I've seen recommended many times for problematic updates.
I'm trying to avoid a philosophical discussion, though, of how to do OS X updates (standalone dmg files vs. Software Update, repairing permissions, or not, safe boot, or not etc. etc.) I've seen long, long discussions. I've never used Software Update to do an update on my machine, but that's only my preference. I could be branded a complete Luddite for this.
I was just hoping that someone out there had a quick fix for the "busted" automatic Finder window - that's all I seek. If not, it's not a serious problem, and I'll move on. Just irritating to see it work 100% perfectly on one Mac and not at all on the other.
    Thank you for your input.
